Again, If you did get a FHD screen then one dead pixel is like unbelievably tiny and only noticeable on occasion. I'd recommend trying some of the techniques stated above.. Hey.. There might be a pixel god :p

Probably a stupid question, but can you put a better CPU on the 5125 than the 620M? The HM55 chipset supports all the mobile processors, so can't you put say a 840QM on there? Assuming you buy a barebones of course. If you can, what are the disadvantages of this aside from the increased power consumption and maybe a bit more heat? Would that be overkill given the 330M GPU?

The BIOS and the thermal solution will not support Quad processors. It they did, you could bet Sager would have them in there!

So I signed up for an account on this site because of this thread, which I've actually been following from the beginning. I'm pretty much sold on this laptop, but a few posts on different processors performance and such has me confused.

I was originally planning on getting the i7, hybrid drive, 4 GB of ram (and later upgrade to 8), but now I'm not so sure. I plan on using this laptop for massive amounts of photo editing, HD video editing, and multitasking (no gaming).

After reading some posts about actual processor speeds and these hybrid drives, I'm not sure what to get now. To me performance is more important than battery life. If the i7 and hybrid drive will really boost my performance, I'm willing to spend the extra money (though I'm not willing to buy an SSD), but if they don't... then I'd rather not spend the extra $.

Based on what I'll be using the laptop for, what configuration would you guys recommend I get?

    I'm not sure...
Doesn't photo and video editing softwares support GPU acceleration nowadays that processor power is less relevant?
Practically, unless you do heavy number crunching all the time, the difference in processors' speed does not matter. (And then, i5-450M would be suffice, IMO)

Hey everyone. I want a laptop for poker and run 20 tables and programs called Holdem Manager and Table Ninja that takes lot of memory. I see there is a dell studio 1558 but i heard they have tons of problems like heat, and it shutting off unexpectedly and other problem. I know i can get it with 1080P upgrade but so many people have bad things to say about it. Someone in this forum recommended this laptop the sager np5125 and it cost around only $850 with 1080P

Is there a reason its about $150 cheaper than the Dell studio 1558? I hear people say this keyboard and the look is ugly. I do not play ANY GAMES AT ALL. Just online poker playing 20 tables with Holdem manager running.

    Thoughts?

Gotcha. I knew there had to be a good reason behind limiting it to dual core processors. The quad is only 10 TDP higher than the dual. It cranks out that much more heat though? Interesting. Again, when sandy and Ivy bridge make an appearance it will be great to see quad and octal core processors with reasonable tdp's.

Lol. That sounds perfectly safe and sane doesn't it! "*The smell of melting PCB* Oops, I guess it isn't rated for quad-core. Put the i5 back in and ship it to him!"

Also, I just ponied up and bought my NP5125. Since there's an extreme lack of large pictures and only one review, I'll take a bunch and post what I think about it after I get her. I can't say much about the performance though, as I've never even touched anything this fast.

Well because its not really 850... Most people end up spending 1200+ on this machine.. With everything BASE in it, it runs for about 850 but there are some things that are stupid not to upgrade for the price.. I don't know, I love the keyboard but this computer is amazing if you game every now n then and for school/business. Not just a hardcore gaming machine.. or just a business machine.. right in the middle making it great. (optimus and fingerprint reader, USB 3.0... three things that make this better then the Dell studio..) oh yeah and the fact that it is a sager and not a dell.. that also makes it better [: Any name brand computer like that you get so much junk with it and on it.. cant go wrong with sager :D

PS. Its not ugly by any means! It is just very plain looking but i love that about it.. and the screen is so amazingly clear.. going back onto my 22" widescreen monitor from it is a pain ;P

Just ordered mine from PowerNotebooks.com earlier this week. One of the reasons I ended up going with the NP5125 was because of it looks. I work in a government building and still like to LAN on the weekends, and something like Dell/Alienware would be simply garish.

+1 for subtle, business class looks on the NP5125 imo.

Just curious to see if anyone had any backlight and/or dust particle issues with the HD LCD screen. I had a very obvious particle, or whatever it was, that was on the screen, and sent it in to get replaced. The replacement screen I got back has two smaller what look to be dust particles or whatever inside the screen, and also an obvious light spot as well, where it looks to be backlight bleed. These aren't stuck or dead pixels, btw.

I want to see what other people's experiences are with the screen, because I really don't want to have to keep sending my notebook back over and over to get a screen that is good.

The laptop is covered in tiny white sparkles, so not as subtle as it could have been. But still, fairly plain-looking compared to the average laptop.

When I ordered my 7110, it came with a little scrape underenath the screen, looked almost like an eyelash was beneath the first layer of the screen (REALLY ANNOYING) but manageable, also had a dead pixel.. Returned it in exchange for my now current 5125 and couldn't be happier.. No problems with the screen whatsoever in addition [: and i live in new york (VERY FAR FROM CALIFORNIA) so maybe some damages occur in the shipping process? but this one came fine so idk :p

I'm assuming it was my review? but if it wasn't, then this is mine:
    YouTube - Sager NP5125 Unboxing/Review/First Look

I know that XoticPC has a nice HD kind of look-over on youtube and not so much a review but it is extremely high quality video and there is like 1 other one floating around. (this is from a video review standpoint, If you are looking for a text review then well this site has a nice review on it... I'd say there is enough info and reviews from reading this forum in addition to the videos and text reviews for this laptop to make a decision on buying it now... When i was on the market to buy one although, I just had the XoticPC video and this message board so i watched the XoticPC video about 5 times :p but i decided on buying it and couldn't be happier!)

PS. Sorry for doing all individual posts, my hands are freezing and im kinda in a rush so just kept posting without realizing it.

so, got a 5125 with a dead pixel. will run through the fixing utilities (UDP, jscreen) but not holding out much hope. anyone successfully RMAed? seems almost inevitable to get at least one given the display.

I RMAed.. but it was for an exchange (7110 for a 5125) so other then that the RMA went great but it wasn't for a dead pixel or anything.. it was for an exchange. AND MIND YOU, IT COST ME $80 IN SHIPPING CHARGES FOR THE EXCHANGE, so if you are willing on spending $80 for shipping your laptop back then feel free :p

Wow, $80? I suddenly don't feel so bad about my cautious side convincing me to spend $100 on the 0 Dead Pixel Guarantee. I was going to spend $300 on a screen upgrade for the Envy 14, so I convinced myself that $160 combined on the NP5125 was worth it.

*tries to wait patiently for his to ship*

Yea, as soon as I first got my 5125 and turned it on I noticed a similar scratch or scrape underneath. Bugged the living hell out of me, so I RMA'd it, and got a new screen. But now the replacement screen has two dots which look like it could be specs of dust, and three light (or white) dot areas where there is more backlight bleed through. In any laptop (which includes a Sager) or lcd monitor I've ever purchased, I've never had a dead pixel or any scrapes, obvious backlight bleed dots, etc. So to me, it's completely unacceptable, and a bit disheartening.

I asked them when I send it back that they please give it a thorough lookover after they replace the screen again to make sure everything is ok, because I really don't want to have to send it back a third time.

i7-620 is like 10% more performance for a significant increase in power (and correspondingly less battery). if you're doing photo and HD video editing it may make more sense to get a i7-720qm or 740qm (or 8xx if you have a lot to spend) on one of the bigger notebooks

Just had a bizarre problem with my screen. Pretty much everywhere on the screen green pixels were flickering on and off. They were easiest to see on images but even black text had tiny green pixels blinking on and off on them. They were present everywhere: in firefox, on the desktop, in windows explorer, even on the shut down screen. Thankfully they disappeared after a restart, but I'm worried my display may have serious problems.

Since the screen is admittedly a little flimsy / prone to flex, has anyone found a nice sleeve, laptop bag, or backpack for the NP5125?

I tend to be rougher on my electronics, so I was thinking of investing in a protective case of some sort.

I've been thinking about the NP5125 (or the UK equivalent, the Kobalt GS510) and I'd originally felt more drawn to the Alienware M11x owing to the better graphics card. However, the Alienware is smaller, has hinge problems and the weaker ULV processors.

Then I noticed the GS510 is now specced with the 425M graphics card and immediately started trawling through owner reviews trying to find out how much the performance improves.

In the whole 52-page thread there isn't a single mention of the 425M - so I guess you don't have these yet?

    Kobalt GS510

On the minus side I don't think the full HD screen is available any more, though I'd be using mine for a mixture of surfing and RTS gaming so this isn't a particularly big deal for me.

Yeah.. thats kinda weird that they came out with the same laptop but with the 425M like a month after this one... but only in the UK and sager is still going with this graphics card. Must have a bunch in stock and not want to upgrade graphics cards until they are gone or something idk...

I'd much rather have the 425M if that were available... any idea if the Sager NP5125 will come with that and when? I'd rather cancel my order on it right now and wait for the 425M...

Also, your GS510 comes with a 900p. The Sager only has options for 768p and 1080p. Just thought that was odd.

Honestly its not a matter of if, but when. The GPU on this model or a very similar model from Sager will get upgraded. Maybe in a week, maybe in 2011. I'd say choose now whether you'd rather have your laptop now with the 330m, or wait for an indeterminate amount of time for the 425m.

And just because its overseas doesn't mean it'll ever get here. Just look at the Acer 3820TG, for example. Its been MIA for months in the states.

the one thing i wish i could have chosen was the 900p screen :( that was my ideal resolution, but i had to go with the 1366x768 screen cuz 1920x was too big for me.

Thought I'd chime into this forum to keep updated on this laptop.

I've had it since middle of August and this thing is a champ, albeit some fan issues (will try to turn cooling to passive when I get home).

I travel a lot so this is amazing on the road. Perfect for all my business and awesome for entertainment. Helps when I stay at hotels with HDTV LCDs since I have a 15 foot HDMI cable I bring with me =D

For those with the Hybrid drive, have you done anything to the system settings to enhance the performance of the hd?

    EDIT: Here are my specs.
