The speakers I had on my NP5125 didn't suck, and were adequate with the equalizer maxed. The speakers on my NP5135 are of similar quality, but these specific speakers have low mids. At first, speech in tv shows was hard to hear, but messed with the equalizer, and now it is adequate. These aren't great speakers, however, and their placement is poor in my opinion. They are adequate for a laptop, in my opinion.

If the game does not use punkbuster, it will work. The makers of punkbuster are lazy s who refuse to update it to work with Optimus. But NVIDIA has a fix for the problem that will be coming out in their next driver update or so that should make all Punkbuster games work again.

Having no genuine screen cleaners, my screen hasn't been physically touched as I didn't want to scratch it. However, it seems to have done it on its on. Maybe it was because some hair was touching the screen when I closed it, or maybe the keyboard some how did it, but there's a perfect vertical scratch going down the top middle of my screen. That was easy.

    I'm guessing it's a scratch, anyway.

Don't buy a laptop for the screen, as you can always hook up an external monitor.

xoticpc has a video where he takes off the back cover and shows the inside. YouTube - Sager NP5125 (Built on Clevo B5100M) Video Review PART 2 of 3 by XoticPC

    Hope this helps.

    I don't think anyone's installed an i3. Where have you found a barebones 5135?

Thanks for the information. I thought they are poor speakers but if people consider them adequate for a laptop then I will consider buying it.

Can't quite remember the name but there's a little driver hack around that changes a text file to let you install the latest NVIDIA drivers. Because the drivers work even if they won't let you install them.

Someone else can link you to the thread with them if they're really nice maybe?

    My NP5135 just arrived.

I ordered without an OS and I don't have time to install Windows 7 right now but I did take it out to give it a good lookover.

It is a VERY solid laptop and the screen hinge is nice and stiff and seems strong. No creaks or groans when picking it up from the corners.

The keyboard is loud and has sort of a hollow feel while you're typing but the key size and spacing seems perfect. My fingers fly over this keyboard.

Turned it on into BIOS just to check for stuck pixels and there are none! So happy. Got the 1080p screen and the viewing angles are amazing (in BIOS at least... we'll see when I get Windows on there and start watching some videos).

I can't wait to get everything up and running.

    :D

This is a small thing, but can anybody tell me if the microphone on the NP5135 is any good? Does it pick up sound clearly?

Just installed Windows 7 on my new 5135, but in device manager it says i'm missing drivers for a PCI device.

I'm pretty sure I installed all the drivers but I may have missed one. I didn't use the included discs, I installed the files from the Sager website.

Also, how would I go about overclocking the GPU? I see nothing in the drivers from the Sager site that would allow for overclocking.

    Thanks.

For overclocking the 425GT, read here Jagat Review | Mobile Graphics Overclocked: NVIDIA GT 425M and here NVIDIA Inspector 1.94 Released !! - Guru3D.com Forums

I was able to get mine up to the following with no artifacts and stable:
    GPU- 690MHz
    Memory- 930MHz
    Shader- 1380MHz

Go into device manager -> PCI device -> Details -> Hardware ID (dropdown box)
post the hardware ID here and we may be able to help.

Just got my 5135 last night. Everything is great except for wifi speeds. I've got a 20 mbps internet package and the Intel 6300 wifi card, but I can't hit anything above 1 mbps downstream; however, the upstream seems to be the same as on my other machines (~3 mbps or so).

I did a bit of googling but all I came up with were a few posts on Lenovo machines with the same issue that recommended turning off wireless N. I did that but it didn't make a bit of difference.

This is on a fresh Win 7 Pro x64 install. I tried removing and reinstalling the drivers but that didn't seem to help either. My router is a WRT54GL running DD-WRT, but I've never run into such compatibility issues before.

Anybody else experience similar issues with the 6300?

In Device Manager it is under "Other devices"

    There are 3:

    Base System Device (PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2382&SUBSYS_51301558&REV_80)
Base System Device (same as above)
    PCI Simple Communications Controller (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&SUBSYS_51301558&REV_06)

Could it be Bluetooth? I didn't install the Sager bluetooth drivers, I just let Windows find its own driver and went with that.

    Another question...

Where do I find an overall audio equalizer to boost the volume levels?

I tried "Sound" in Control Panel but theres nothing.

I just tried recording something with the Windows voice recorder. I didn't tweak the gain/sensitivity on the mic but it came out really clear and detailed. The volume was a little low but I think thats cuz I haven't figured out how to boost the equalizer to get the laptop speakers louder. They're insanely quiet.

Install your card reader drivers for the two Base System Device. And install the Intel(R) Management Engine Interface for the last one. All can be obtained from sager's website.

No fingerprint scanner plugin for Firefox?

    WHAT?!?

Tried setting up the fingerprint scanner to let me log in to websites with a finger swipe but I get the message that there is no plugin for Firefox...

Is there any way to make this thing work in Firefox?

Nobody on Earth uses IE anymore and i'm definitely not going to use it.

Manually installed the plugin from the fingerprint scanner (whatever the company name is) website manually.

    Works perfectly now.

Go to power options, and make sure that the wireless adapter settings aren't on max power saving. But honestly, either way it shouldn't be the case. Don't be surprised if you have a defective 6300.

    "VIA HD Audio Deck"
    You should've used the disc.

Well, I realized that my trackpad is what scratched my screen. I've been ever so gentle with my laptop, so it was not my fault. I don't know how it happened, but it's a defect in the laptop. If Sager doesn't fix this, I'll be mighty pissed. And I wonder if I can take them to court for breech of contract. xD

    Well i'm very pleased.

One of the things I was concerned about, coming from a Thinkpad, was the fact that Thinkpads have an accelerometer to lock the harddrive if it falls.

I just checked and my 5135 came with a Seagate drive with built in fall protection.

I'm glad Sager is using high quality drives in these units.

Also, is there any way to lock the Fn key? It is annoying having to hold Fn to change volume.

Did you lose any of the rubber bumpers on the bezel that prevent the screen from touching the keyboard/touchpad?

When I close mine there is a pretty substantial gap between the screen and touchpad and I don't think I could see them ever touching.

I don't know how to lock Fn key, but I'm using my touchpad to control volume. Tapping the upper right corner raises the volume, and lower right corner lowers it. Synaptics is great.

    UPEK - Package download

    download .xpi file

drag and drop into an open firefox window and it'll ask if you want to install the plugin. install and restart Firefox.

with the plugin active, just type your username and password into any website login form and swipe your finger. it'll tie that website's login to your finger.

Don't know if anyone would know the answer to this but...

If I want to utilize the CUDA stuff in the GPU for GPU rendering do I need the CUDA Toolkit drivers or is CUDA included in the regular nVidia drivers?

    Thanks.

For the person who asked about running Mac OSX:

The operating system will install if you follow Tonymacx86's install guide using iBoot supported (iBoot nVidia didn't work for me, so more than likely Optimus will never work). If you can manage to create or find a kext for the Intel video driver, you may be able to get your laptop up and running with the proper screen resolution. That is as far as I got with my Mac OSX trials on this laptop, but stopped because I couldn't find any support for the integrated graphics, hence screen resolution was stuck at 1024x768 (UGLY on a 1920x1080 screen).

I read the 261.00 drivers have significantly better benchmarks. Are you using the modified ini that they provide or did you mod the ini yourself? Could you provide the modified ini?

Alright guys I figured it out.

Here is the modified INF for 260.99 drivers. Attached.

    Instructions:

Download 260.99 drivers. Unpack the drivers. The default when you do it is in the C:/nVidia folder.

    go to:

    C:/NVIDIA/DisplayDriver/260.99/64-bit/International/Display.Driver

Copy and past the attached INF there. Select Copy and Replace.

Then run the setup.exe to install the drivers.

    EDIT: Nevermind.

This worked when I ran setup.exe with the Sager drivers still installed.

I then ran Driver Sweeper and tried to do a clean install and it still says hardware not recognized.

    ?

i have np 5125, make sure optimus is not disabled by bios, thats the only reason for it to not recognize the card.

BTW, somethings really bothering me about the battery, first of all i have two 62Whr batteries.

now when i using monitor programs they said both my batteries had around 59Whr when they were new, now i constantly used only one for them and now after 2.5 month it dropped to 57, it's quite anoying, am i the only one who's experiancing this problem?

second, windows never give me an assumption of how long untill the battery runs out, just the charge percentage, i saw other notebook sais 2 hours left or so, it is only me?

i talked to sager about this and they said they don't know what i'm talking about and that i can send it in for them to check...

Optimus was still enabled in BIOS. I think Sager does something special to the drivers to make the LEDs work. I gave up on trying to make them work and switched back.

All batteries degrade over time so that's normal. Also, if you keep it plugged in and at 100% all the time it will degrade the battery faster. They're not designed to be constantly charged fully.

It doesn't show the time remaining like other laptops because Sager relies on Windows built in power options as opposed to running their own software with specialized power profiles.

Heres the hardware strings for the 5135's 420m

    NVIDIA_DEV.0DF0.01 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M"
    NVIDIA_DEV.0DF0.02 = "NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M "

If anyone is successful in modding the drivers inf, please post it. I got the 261.00 drivers to install, but it fails at the end and I wasn't able to get the 260.99 drivers to install.
