so are you saying that flashing is a better way to do it ?
-

the clocks cannot change and it is usually a more stable way of overclocking

So it's Nov 30! Today was supposed to be the day the W870CU/8760 back-order shipment arrives. Post up if you notice any movement, emails, shipping changes, etc! I imagine it might take a day or two to see anything, but it should be soon!
-
I was told sometime in the first week of December but I will keep my eyes peeled for any emails.
-
Thanks! We've heard 11/30 from xoticpc and 12/1 from Malibal, so hopefully someone's order should change status this week.

I have now added the service manual for this unit to the list in my sig - I take no responsibility for anything anyone does with this knowledge.
Quick Linky -
Xotic tells me 12/3 for their shipment. This is going to be a close call, but R&J still have 8760 bodies if things go South

Back on the subject of flashing, why does the NVFLASHv588 zip archive _not_ contain cwsdpmi.exe? Every guide says it's there -- it aint. I'm sure SS will just bash me again, I don't GaF. I read the guide AND searched google...

When you download NvFlash and extract it, there are two files: nvflash.exe and cwsdpmi.exe. Put both of those in the same directory on your boot stick. I just redownloaded a copy of NvFlash 5.88. I'm pretty sure it's there.
-
I am losing my mind -- I just downloaded from Softpedia yesterday, no cwsdpmi.exe. Today, it's there. Why me?

Anyone knows if the 8760's Blu-Ray Drive is region free?

@Lawrence_Chiu
One way is to OPEN BIOS from mySn -
Please don't use rapidshare. -
Has anyone else had any problems?
What service would you recommend where I can have a list as at rapidshare? -
mediafire.com

I don't mind you rehosting my files, but please at least give me the credit for them...

Find it somewhere else then.
It takes time and effort to create/maintain a list of the clevo service manuals.
All I am asking for is a little mention next to the link. -

Thanks babyhemi, that's all I was asking for
Mediafire list has been upped as well as rapidshare seems to be causing problems.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -

theriko, thank you for the service manuals.

Is it possible to change the BIOS boot-up screen to my own graphic? The one that says "STYLE NOTE" with two circles next to it.

Hi everyone,
I know I’m a total newbie, but I’ve read every message on this forum (in reverse order), and I decided to get a W870CU / NP8760, but I still have 2 questions.
Except for trips, I won’t be playing too many games on it (I have a good gaming desktop for that), so I’m going stock on the CPU (720QM) & GPU, with the only upgrades being 4 GB RAM, Windows 7 Home, + either an SSD and a 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD, or 2 500 GB 7200 RPM HDDs in RAID 1. The laptop will probably become my primary non-gaming / video computer at home, so I’m leaning towards the RAID 1.
I need it in time to install some software before a marathon 17-day Christmas visit to my octogenarian parents (bedtime 8:30) departing on the 20th. So I need it fully assembled with OS installed.
My questions are:
1) Are there problems with the X25-M SSDs needing to be reformatted / becoming slow after a while? I’d rather spend the extra minute at boot up and seconds during program loads than have to spend hours screwing with stuff down the road.
2) Where is the best place to get the laptop ASAP (I live in Washington state)? I don’t care about a $30 difference, but I do care about a $100 difference.
Thanks so much for your help. -
Here's the problem with GEN1 IBM SSD's (if you're getting them new from the reseller ignore this). You need to securely wipe them to restore their speed after awhile. The tool to do this requires IDE mode which the SH%T BIOS doesn't let you do. So, you have to pull the SOB out every time. That being said, the newer ones support (or will) TRIM in Windows7 so no worries. You should research the state of affairs with IBM SSDs more.

Sager 8760's started shipping yesterday and most Sager orders should be shipped before week end.

I have a question that I don't think has been asked before. I see that the CATV is only enabled with a TV Tuner. The only tuners offered through the sellers are USB. Does that mean they install something else inside of the case for it to work with the USB tuners, or could I use a diferent usb tuner or my AVerTV ExpressCard?
Thanks. -
they install a card inside the laptop and hook it up to that

Anyone want to place bets on if we'll ever see that MySn.de bios? I got $5 says the dude never comes back, or never shares it with us.
-
No need to bet, I kinda share the same opinion. I doubt we will see them around for a while, although those BIOSes did look nice.
-
-
Well, if MySN unlocked it, it's only a matter of time before someone else does I suppose. No harm in waiting.
-
He didn't unlock it he is a reseller that has access to unlocked bios's
-
-
Maybe because clevo told them not to?
-
Out of boredom I was looking at the details of my order at malibal.com. Noticed I was upgraded to UPS 2nd Day Air. Suh-weet!

However, it's more likely that he (or someone he hired) modified the bios to allow it to bypass the 920XM check, or enabled functionality that was already present in the existing bioses.
If we look at Moo's theory, and resellers have unlocked bioses but don't share them, why is MySN.de the only one offering them? Theriko's answer to that was that Clevo provides the unlocked bioses, but then asks resellers not to give them out.
Following that logic, Clevo would certainly stop selling to him (MySN.de), if he's violating their policies. It doesn't make sense for a reseller, who depends on the ODM/OEM for his profits to go against their wishes. He'd lose far more money when Clevo cuts him off then he could ever make selling unlocked bioses.
It doesn't make sense that resellers have the unlocked bioses, and don't give them out. It makes a whole lot more sense that they don't exist in the first place, and that the functionality is present, but disabled, and MySN.de or someone he worked with unlocked that functionality. -
I once written mySN:
there will be no public Relaese version and no update to this BIOS.
was forbidden to pass on to them, if someone wants to have the bios the notebook has to be sent there
I have a mySN -
Dear XXXX
instance, you want to use the features of this BIOS, we can only inhouse flash on your notebook.
(Passing is not allowed)
Furthermore, there will be no BIOS - developing these versions.
What feature you need specifically? Ggf. Some are included in the upcoming series BIOS.

Thanks Nobody-3!
Interesting stuff.. They flash in-house, but won't email the file.. so they're OK with the distribution of this bios, but not via the internet. Makes sense if you want to prevent the bios from spreading like crazy, but what's to stop someone (a valid customer) from dumping the bios.. It's Phoenix, after all, not that difficult.
Interesting, indeed.. -
Hi noob here
Been reading a lot on Sagers and I was originally looking at the 8690 but then this puppy came up. Slightly bigger, slightly heavier, and bigger screen all for $165 more (lol) compared to a 8690 spec'd the same from xoticpc.
I'm itching to click the buy button LOL
