The words under the description section of the GTX 285M in RJTech's website says it includes the heatsink. I think you could request either a W860CU or W870CU GPU Heatsink that will come with your purchase.

I'll find out what RJTech says on Monday since I placed my order one hour after they updated their website with the new cards around noon on Friday. As much as the next person, having an extra heatsink would be great since I can have one as a backup if I fubar the other.

I just checked RJTech's website again. It appears they have updated the selections for the GTX 285M for the W8x0CU with options for the W860CU or W870CU heatsink. Them knowing me, they sent me the W870CU heatsink along with the card. Most likely they thought that the heatsinks for both notebook models were the same. Now I have an extra heatsink to play around with.

Hey guys ive been reading this tread all day to catch up cause i am a new owner of the 8760 and absolutly love it, wondering are there ways to oc the 820qm? and whats best tool to oc the 280m? thanks guys havent had time to read whole thread so sorry if i missed something
-
.is the 285 a big difference from the 280? should i wait for a new card to buy and install? sorry for this noob question but will any dx 11 ati cards work with our chipset??
-
The 285M is just an overclock of the 280M if I'm not mistaken. There is no really pressing reason to make a fuss over it unless you are somehow able to get your seller to replace it for free or a small fee.

I'm about to have my Sager shipped out (pretty bloody stocked) Trying to keep it pristine for the years to come so I'm researching for the skins that could help do the trick. I found a few but unsure as to the dimensions or any other "gotchas" that I may need to consider.
- Can anyone recommend decals for the palmrest that will fit NP8760 nicely (dimensions?)? Maybe even transparent ones with some art thrown in for good measure.
- What are the dimensions for the back of the screen area? (the area where "Sager" logo lives). 16.25” (W) x 11.0” (D), minus half an inch or so?
Any ideas, suggestions, comments most welcome! -
The area is 16 1/4" by 10 1/2" you are correct.

Guys, I am still using the original video driver 186.47 which is okay, but is there an appeciable difference with the newer drivers 186.81 or 187.62? I don't have a problem BUT.... you can never have too much graphics power can you

I was just looking at the downloads link at the beginning of this thread and see you have listed a new BIOS 1.05s dated 24Dec09. Is this for the W870CU as well? The reason I ask is my BIOS is dated 16Oct09 but there is no new BIOS listed on the Clevo website.

The question you should be asking is when will DX11 cards come out for this notebook.

Somehow UPS has delivered my GTX 285M today instead of the target delivery date of tomorrow. Time for me to revive my workhorse W870CU.

The GTX 285M strikes me as a potentially overclockable card. I just dipped into the GPU BIOS and the clockset is indeed 600/1500/1000, but at 1V. This is an exceptionally strong clockset for 1v with the option for 1.03v still available. My target of 680/1700/1020 @ 1.03v seems very plausible at this point. Most of the other settings seem to be the same. But the memory timings between the two cards are slightly different. The timings on the GTX 285M memory are slightly higher than the GTX 280M, meaning that Nvidia sacrificed higher latency for a boost in raw bandwidth.
With that said, I also decided to break free from 186.81 WHQL and try out 196.34 beta. So far I'm liking it and nothing crummy has arisen yet.
I have flashed my card to my last clockset on my GTX 280M. The same clocks and voltages will work just fine with this card. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5595798&postcount=677
I also just finished soldering the DC cable from my 120W PSU to my 160W PSU. The new PSU works just fine and is powering my notebook and charging the battery as it should. I originally intended the 160W PSU to be used at home while my 120W PSU be used while I am in the field. But unfortunately I cannot have such a setup now as my 120W PSU is useless without the DC cable. It shouldn't matter too much anymore since my W870CU will be staying home more often now that I have my 1201N netbook. -

Hi Soviet Sunrise, Thanks for that. I will download the 186.81 and try it out. BTW how did you end up with Soviet Sunrise as a moniker?
-
Regarding the bright indicator lights and hot keys above the keyboard…
I put a small strip of plastic tape over them per Soviet Sunrise’s suggestion. It looks much better than my first attempt. This time I used a colored transparent plastic. I really did not want to ruin my warranty with disconnecting them or changing their current. They not only are dimmer, but the still serve a purpose too. Thank you for the tip and sorry I brushed it off so quickly.

For newer cards, I would use Nvidia System Tools to overclock. NST will give you access to the necessary clocks where RivaTuner won't. -

problem is that it can give with NST a Bluescreen ;(
i can only OC the GraKa by Bios flash

Did anyone get to try out Outlaws-Clan's fix for the Blu-Ray playback posted on page 106 yet? Was it a simple value fix?

That's something I'd like to know, too.
I used the nvcv.inf from the driver cd to mod the official nvidia driver and it works fine. -

Hi guys,
I am waiting for my sager Np8760 from PcTorque. It is in customs now so I should have it in a few days. General Specs are
Core i7-820
GTX 285
4GB 1333
I was just wondering if there are any important actions that I should do with my laptop before starting to use it intensely
great posts and great forum.
Thanks -
Cover it in plastic to catch all the drool. J/K
The usual important things are to check the drivers for updates, run a windows update, get an antivirus software. That should cover you outside of installing the programs and such you want to run on it. -
I am running updates and stuff but I have to admit that it is TOO large, feels like a 22" monitor
BTW is win7 s disk image utility good enough or should I use another program. Also is it ok to back it up on the second drive since I will be using that for storage in general. -

I did not bench the driver in synthetic tests. I spent my enjoyment playing games and so far this set does not hiccup or produce any junk in any of my titles. All my general functions seem to be operating normally as well, so I'd say that 196.34 beta is a stable driver and I will make it my driver of choice once Nvidia releases the mobile version of it and finally retire 186.81 WHQL after using it as my primary driver for four months. However, I did pull the trigger early and overclocked my card.
I did manage to reach 680/1700/1020 and have it remain stable up to 82*C in a controlled, impromptu synthetic stress test. Unfortunately I did not reach my goal of stability up to 88*C, but I'm happy with the result. Also, this was done on 1.05v instead of 1.03v; 1.03v just didn't have enough kick to keep stability past 80*C. After finding out my card's limit, I returned my clocks back to 500/1250/800 @ 0.95v until I finish my heatsink mod. What I found interesting is that it was difficult for my card to reach 82*C; I had to choke the GPU fan and block the exhaust vent with a tshirt. This means that in games, the GPU should stay in the 70's after a marathon game night, just under the 82*C limit. The thermal leeway is healthy, but it's still close enough to warrant any user to lower the clocks just a bit. However, these are the results with only a light mod on my GPU. I lapped cold plate and installed new thermal pads on the underside of the daughterboard under the memory and core area. The thermal pads on the memory chips, inductors, ferrite cores, capacitors, etc have also been replaced. By the time I finish adding copper, my maximum temps from an 80*C baseline should plummet by a good 8*C.
You might also want to take a look at 187.71, which is tailored especially for Clevo notebooks. -
thanks for the info ss
did you get to push your 280m when you had it?
how woudl you compare the two? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I never did get to overclock my GTX 280M, so I really can't make a comparison regarding that area. But I can compare the temps at 500/1250/800 @ 0.95v. The cherrypicked quality of the GTX 285M does show with slightly lower temperatures. Both cards have the same light mod that I described above.
Off topic time. This is not a response to you, trvlbug, or anyone else; this is just me spilling my thoughts again. I believe that the rumored GTX 380M will be built using the GT200. I say this because per recent news of Nvidia saying that the desktop 300 series will be DX10.1 cards while the 400 series cards will debut with DX11. Nvidia never produced a G92 card that can utilize DX10.1. The GT200 cards were the first cards that were DX10.1 ready. Also, Nvidia will most likely miniaturize the GT200 for notebooks by producing it in 40nm, or keep the 55nm process and neuter it heavily. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5826437&postcount=1232. The GT200 is Nvidia's largest, hottest, and most power consuming chip ever produced. Shoehorning it into notebooks would mean lasered shaders and a heavy downclock. But even then, it's still going to outperform the current GTX 285M. I'm not even going to go into the GF100 since that thing is definitely not going to happen in March. So we are going to see a scaled down GT200b or a surprise GT200c, or even a miracle G92c. This goes back to my notion of Nvidia chips being very scalable over a long course of time. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5737101&postcount=2673. Some of my perceived technical information regarding the GTX 285M are now obsolete and irrelevant; the board layout is identical, an improved PowerMizer never happened, and 675/1688/1000 as speculated from the FX 3800M never happened. -
I have the same impression Soviet. And this is one of the reasons I prefer to wait for a more noticeable boost in performance both in CPU and GPU speeds. I would also like to see switchable graphics in Clevos as the current battery life is laughable.
For now I am impressed with the QX9300, remember I had some temp. problem is the Q9200 ? The QX9300 OEM that I have runs cooler and seems more stable than the Q9200. -
My HS screen has no ghosting, a tiny bit of white bleed near the edges which I assume is normal. Looks good, only negative so far has been that on 4x overclock I get BSOD if doing benchmarks or heavy gaming. About 4 or 5 times, so may need improved cooling or something.. Works fine on 3x overclock, I have the 920.
Anyone heard of Factor Gaming. Some reviews show good company up till the last couple of months. Seem to have dropped off the planet. Website still works, but no refund for difference in price for exchanged 9280 to 8760.
Word of caution, buy from someone else for now till they reappear...
Cheers -
Mine is supposed to arrive Tuesday. I presently dual boot Kubuntu 9.1 with XP. Kubuntu is my primary Os. Have there been any problems with this and if so, what were the fixes applied? I'm primarily concerned about drivers.

Hey guys!
Picked up my new NP8760 a couple weeks ago and LOVE IT! What a powerhouse! However one of my biggest complaints is the way it leaves grease smudges all over it. I posted a request for NP8760 owners to see if there's enough interest to have zagg make a custom notebook clear skin for the back, palmrests, and trackpad for our notebook. They emailed me back and said if there was enough interest they would make one. Here's the link to my thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5885602#post5885602 I'd love to hear what you guys think and see if we can get these available for our machines! -
Hi
I just got my Clevo W870CU and I am happy with it,specially the way it work under Snow Leopard 64Bit , I am using dual boot Win7 and SL from the same SSD, indeed it is powerhouse.
just one question regarding Speakers, dose it really has 4 built in speakers ? if it doe what is the best driver for it. -
I got myself a clevo w870cu, and was just wondering which parts can actually be swapped out? gpu?
And also has anyone else had problems with the ridge/hump bit between the screen and the main part of the laptop(above the shortcut keys).
Mine sadly started catching when opening each time(used paper to slide between so it wouldn't jam) But now the ridge bit has ripped off completely, I have the missus to thank for that. So I was just wondering whether it was a manufacturing fualt or me just being "too gentle" -
If it's like any other laptop I've had, at least the processor, graphics card, memory, HD's, optical drive and maybe the wireless card.

Hurray, I ordered the NP8760 on Feb 3rd. It should arrive today! Been lurking for the past few weeks and wanted to say Thank You for all the great info guys... Great tips!

Hey guys, I had a m11x order I canceled and decided on a bigger laptop. This one (as many of the sagers are) is on my radar. With my m11x order I had a bunch of coupons to lower the price, is there anything like that with Sagers? Or am I stuck paying the msrp?
Thanks -
