Yeah thats good to hear because i will have an 8760 coming very soon and i am also putting a 920 in it so hopefully i dont have any issues with the PSU... With the ATI pulling less power overall that might be even better but if you say its never happened to you then im sure ill be fine for just regular gaming...
I dont run Prime and Furmark on any regular basis so i was not to worried one way or the other...
-
-
-
So there is no psu issues with the 720qm or the 820qm? -
-
Allright, Intel burn test and furmark ran together for 10 minutes.
Fans never went full blast so the system isn't loud (when I updated the BIOS the fans went full blast and are loud. Not as loud as the R2 but audible).
GPU never went above 82C and it is stock - no oc and no thermal paste job yet.
The 720 never broke went above 70C and I used MX-3.
Sound good? Thoughts?
Not sure about the psu. I just got mine today and ran the stress above, haven't gamed or benched yet. -
...
I just saw the prices on them, if i am out and about over the next few days i may grab one since its a good thing to have kickin around and to test all my energy slurping appliances ... -
sleey: How does the size of the unit compare to the G73? In looking at the specs the Clevo/Sager was actually smaller then the G73 but I think that is only because the G73 has the big rear-end
-
remember that AC -> DC power conversion is lossy, hence since the output of the adapter is 120W, the input (what it draws from the wall) will be more.
-
It is about the same size but the W870 is just a tad lighter.
I am really liking it so far. There are some minor quirks, but nothing that is causing me to want to sell it -
Just got the shipping notice on mine, I need to finish buying all the pieces now.
-
You have no idea
lol
I have taken systems out of the box, gave it one look, and put it back and returned it -
I give you 2 weeks with this one. -
As long as nothing breaks, I give myself until summer depending on what AW does.
That in and of itself would be a major accomplishment -
Well i wont say how long ill be keeping any machine but unless Alienware comes out with a machine that does not sound like a Vacuum cleaner under load i wont be heading in that direction anytime soon

Till summer...I'm not sure I can wait that long. The only way is that there is no substantial SLI or Crossfirex release.
-
Im sure there is a Xfire 5870 machine very close to release as we speak...
Id be surprised if Alienware waited till June E3 to release the Xfire 5870s in the M17x but since i have 0 interest in that machine anymore im not to worried about it...
-
wear ear plugs. lol
Can't beat the RGB LED and aluminum finish. -
Its not so much the noise for me its the others around me who would be bothered and i dont want to have to use a machine that i need to be locked in a room by myself when i want to game on it...
I agree on the Screen and the build quality though but sadly the noise kills those 2 great features ... -
Don't forget about the FSOD's
I know some people have had it fixed with the A02 bios but others haven't. -
So does the W870 have 4 speakers and a sub or what?
I am only getting sound from the 2 that flank the keyboard. -
Audio & Multimedia Features
Built-in High Definition Sound System
3D stereo enhanced Sound system
S/PDIF Digital output 7.1CH
1 Built-in Microphone
4 Built-in Speakers + 1 Subwoofer
Sound Blaster compatible
I've read numerous reviews that the sound is horrible in these things. -
Does the 870CU come with 3 antannas for the Ultimate N 6300 wireless card?

Hi Jacob, the ATI 5870 will be available by the time your computer gets here. It is $55 cheaper than the nVIDIA GTX 285M. Both nVIDIA GTX285M and the ATi 5870 support DX11.. am i reading this right? nvidia doesnt support dx 11 i thought? or use it. i got a 8760 4 weeks ago and it came with 280gtxm, the card has artifacts they called it after showing them videos of btf2 gameplay and stuff, so they sent for a rma, i shipped it out and was going to upgrade to 285gtx for like 150$ but then i remeber the 5870s are now released and i asked about them, and he said the difference is 55 less then the 285gtx m, why is a better card less money? not tested enough maybe? anyway im glad i get 5870 brand new in my sager 8760 for 95 bucks rofl, ty gpu gods.
-
i know the 285 is at a high clock and very nice but the 5870 still out plays it, am i missing anything? thank you for your times
-
If I can't solve these BSOD's this thing is going back.
-
Do you know why it's happening? -
Nope.
Temps are reasonable. I either get kicked out while playing to an appcrash or I'll get a BSOD.
The BSOD only happens with the Clevo drivers.
I am running some memory tests right now and already ordered some plain jane corsair memory to try as well.
Figures..... -
Is this with the 1600 memory you had?
If this is with the HyperX memory run memtest86 to find issues. The Windows diagnostics test is as good. -
No, I haven't even tried the 1600 hyperx. This is with the 1333 hyperx.
And are you saying that the Windows diag IS or IS NOT any good?
Just curious. I am using memtest but didn't think to use the Windows one. -
AHHHHHHHHHHHH and just when I came in here to proclaim, with great exuberance, that I had given up on the mythical G73JH-A1 and placed my order for an 8760 with the HD5870.
Time to buckle in I suppose. -
I fired off an email to RJ with my issues and asked if I could swap my 285 for a 5870.
We shall see how good RJTech is.... -
-
So if the BSOD only happens with Clevo drivers then just dont use the Clevo drivers ? .... -
Got it. Thanks drake.
I'll let it go through a few passes and see what happens. -
I tried to install 186.81 but I can't find the inf for it. LV2G doesn't have the file any more.
Maybe one of you guys could host it? -
The App crashes do sound like Memory issues but it could also be the HD ....

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Nvidia responded to our request for comments with the following statement: "We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to 196.21 WHQL drivers. Release 196.75 drivers have been temporarily removed from our Web site in the meantime."
-
HDD?
That would be a first for me at least.
The appcrashes I have had reference faults with vphysics.dll and something else related to nvidia. I can't remember. -
DING DING DING!!!
Surprise! memtest is throwing 8 errors thus far and I'm only 15% into the first pass.
Good bye hyperX -
I would trying uninstalling Physx then entirely and also the drivers then running Driversweeper on all the things Nvidia.... If that does not fix it then it could very well be a bad GPU... -
See above
-
Lol yeah i just noticed that .. Was to late... -
-
I appreciate the help though, quad and drake!
I was getting PO'd beyond belief. Just think blistering fury and that would be melol
I am getting tired of returning and/or selling, and you know that.... -
I saw this earlier this morning as well.

Yeah as soon as i saw your post saying this thing is going back i thought oh boy here we go again lol..
