I am going to roll with these.
I have had good experiences with corsair (and crucial for that matter) in the past.

I'd rather just get something different then keep repeating this.
You know the saying re: insanity, right? lol -
"the more things change, the more they stay the same" ...... good luck!
-
Hey sleey, how does the screen on the Clevo compare to the G73?
-
Same screen. Same EXACT screen, lol.
Anyway, I stole the Samsung 1066 sticks out of my wife's M11x and I have no more appcrashes or BSOD's -
I'm stealing the RAM out the M15x until the RAM i got from Scook for 60$ comes in

Any news on the possibility of disabling hyperthreading in this notebook?
And the 920xm still doesn't have advanced oc control in bios? -
you will never get the OC feature
-
I went with the OCZ 8gb (2x4gb) has the same timings as the corsair. I'll let you know how they are on Wednesday
-
It will be here tommorw

What exactly is your setup going to be, HD and such?Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
You guys blow getting Saturday deliveries, mine will be here next Wed. I got the proc in today now I just need the rest of it
I am pretty excited after the G73 fiasco to finally have a stable laptop.
-
-
So yours did ship today, quad?
-
-
Just curious but why are you guys going with 4gb of ram instead of 6 or 8? Latency?
-
...
Oh and i can thank Mandrake for hooking me up with the RAM in the first place.... Great guy...
-
Yep.
I don't do anything that requires even 4GB. -
i720
3 gb DDR3
250 + 320 HD
5870m
1900 res -
so unless your into that its probably a waste -
Thanks for the answer.
And what about the possibilty of disabling hyperthreading?
Exist or not?
And in other notebooks?
Soviet Sunrise has already told me that there is no possibility, but why?
Is it a Bios problem?
In the desktop motherboard, there is the possibility of disabling it, why not in a notebook? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Clevo didn't feel like adding the toggle for it, that's all. Many desktop motherboards have BIOS's that do not have the toggle to disable Hyperthreading either.

Narrowing it down to this:
920, 5870, Diamond Compound, 7 Pro, 4 GB 1333, 80 GB SSD for programs, 500 GB 7000rpm for data, no BR and 3 year warranty.
Not sure about the Diamond Compound?
May just go with Raid 500x2 instead of a primary SSD?
I don't think that I would use BR, I don't use it in my home theater.
Who to order from? PC Torque is nearby and they offer ADP.
I would like to have a RGB screen though, but
Basically waiting to see how you guys that just got this like it. -
Next to the RGB, this is the next best LED screen in the W870.

I'm trying to understand how hyperthreading works. If i run only a heavy single threaded application, i will see in the task manager a (max) 12,5% use of the cpu (1/8), but i will use in reality a core at max (if i'm running only this application, lets say the clock will go at 3,2Ghz with the 920xm), so in reality i will use the 25% of the cpu (1/4). Is it correct? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Incorrect. Why are you doubling your CPU usage for a single threaded application? The CPU cannot split threads. Your CPU is going to use 12.5% of the available resources on that single core for that thread, period. If it is a dual threaded application or if you are running two different applications, Hyperthreading on the i7 will try to squeeze both threads onto a single core if it doesn't use all the core's resources, if not allocate each thread do a dedicated core. Essentially, Hyperthreading tries to get the most efficiency by using up all available on the least cores possible before dipping into using additional physical cores. However, this does use a bit more electrical power so it's not always a perfect tradeoff.
-
Phisically i'm using one out of four core (25%), meanwhile using one out of eight thread (12,5%).
Wrong again? -
And congrats on fixing yer BSOD issue. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Some applications cannot take advantage of Hyperthreading. For example, the game GTAIV cannot; in task manager, one will only see four threads being used by the game for a total CPU usage of up to 50% as seen by the OS.
I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but Hyperthreading will allow the CPU to perform better only when the resource usage per core is less than 100%. The additional overhead required to allow Hyperthreading to operate will make the raw execution performance per core slower, but not by much. Single threaded apps, apps that cannot utilize Hyperthreading, and apps that drive the number of cores that it can use to 100% will be slower compared to when Hyperthreading is disabled. Using the GTAIV example I explained above, the game engine can only use one thread per core, so with Hyperthreading enabled, you are going to see slightly lower CPU performance.
Hyperthreading has been revamped a lot since it's debut in the P4 days. The performance drawback is not as prevalent as the old Hyperthreading so all those reviews on Google that talk about Hyperthreading being a detriment to the CPU is now null. But I agree with the fact that CPU's nowadays are so powerful that they do not require Hyperthreading anymore; additional threads can just be offloaded to more cores. -
Welp I finally gave in and ordered one on XoticPC about an hour ago. I had originally wanted a G73 but due to stock problems I had to rethink my purchase, and I've wanted a Sager since I first saw them like 10 years ago when gaming notebooks didn't really exist and they were the only people making them.

I cant get my Vbios
-

I cant seem to install any video drivers for the gtx 280m. Every time I try to install a driver I get the message, the system cannot find any drivers compatible with your system.
If I run the auto scan on Nvidia's site it says: The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site. Their drivers are old though
Any ideas? -
You should check out http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/
You can find drivers for your 285M by installing drivers with a modded INF, allowing nearly every mobile Nvidea card to be installed. -

I have a 280M though... are the drivers going to be the same for the 285M?
-
Oh I'm sorry yea the modded INF drivers will work for the 280M if its on the list. I only said 285M because I read wrong.
-
No worries... So sorry for the dumb question, but I do not want the driver download then, I just want to download the modified INF? lol this stuff confuses me, I just want to download the latest drivers for my card! hah =/
I tried downloading a driver from laptopvideo2go, but got the same error message. -
Plus the sticker has different info in it with a hologram.
