If the new Clevo 15" is anything to judge by, the new 17" is an all new chassis design, with SB support.

The W87/W86 are EOL. I'd wait for the new machine.

Does anyone know where the TZ0_ temp is measured from in HWMon?

Hey guys, I'm not sure if I should be concerned...after slightly OC'ing the GTX 470M and running OCCT, it shows my GPU temps up to 75 degrees and sometimes touching up to 80...is that high or is that okay for this type of system.

Please forgive me stupidity, but I've been used to the G73 cooling system and I'm not sure what is considered normal under heavy load for this system :)

Well the 470m @ stock will run hotter than a MR5870 or a 460m, so w/ your OC those temps are perfectly acceptable.

Hello everyone.. I'm considering buying a laptop built on the 8760/W870CU chassis, with the ATI 5870 graphics card. I'd like to hear what you guys think about the cooling efficiency on the laptops using this chassis - I certainly wouldn't want to wind up with an overheating item.

Fan noise is not much of an issue, I'm more interested in the efficiency of the cooling.. Additionally, where are the intake and where are the exhaust vents (I fear that by going just by pictures, I might miss some things)?

    All replies appreciated :)

Thank you. Looks pretty solid, actually. Is there, perchance, a graph with temperatures? (eh, nevermind, will find them :) ) Still looking for personal opinions, of course - like, how good is the thermal paste they use.

I don't own this notebook but i' ve heard that the cooling systemis pretty much very good. Never heard of anything more than 80c on gpu and cpu level is 80-85c under heavy load. Very nice laptop generally and if i had enough money i would have bought it ages back. Also, consider getting a 470/480M GTX, but if you like ati and want a better value-for-money gpu, go with it. To sum up, very good reviews from me

I feel like a broken record, but just wait. The P150HM/P170HM are going to available soon and they're considerably better than the current models.

Hey guys I am thinking of getting a SAGER NP8760-S1 or NP7280

Someone a while back though said it would be wise to wait for the new cards and other things to come out so you could either opt for the new tech, or get a better price on the current stuff. Is the new stuff out yet, or should I still hold off on my purchase?

Hey, ive been looking into buying a sager for gaming/school purposes and its great to know that im just in time for when they release a new product but when will they be avaliable for order? Any idea? School starts soon and I kinda of need it asap. And compared to the prices of some of the models already out how much do you think the 17 inch ones will be? I was interested in the 8760 but Im going to try to wait for this if the pricing isnt too much higher.

Noone still knows all that info, but we will learn soon. Pricing should be at about 200$ more, but if you wait, you will take a very long-lasting machine.

The NP8170 / Clevo P170HM is available for order now, however, it won't be shipping until the end of the month. The pricing is comparable to the NP8760 / W870CU.

There's nothing wrong with his Sager. He just wants to exchange it with the better-performing P170HM because he's still in the 30-day windows guarantee.

We don't have a fair comparison between them yet. I'm 99% sure the w8x0cu isn't getting the 485m though, so it's just a matter of what's available for me.

Is it just my thought, or XoticPC really stopped releasing the w8x0cu. I can see it replaced from p170HM. It's build on the same idea. Can some XOticPC representative confirm it and tell as something about the future of w8x0cu?

    Yes, the 8760 / 8850 or W870CU / W880CU have been discontinued. The 8170 / P170HM is the replacement model.

75TDP seems to be the line for an XM in this unit, I fried my system board running 75/63. Completely my own fault, but just as a heads up I'm posting this here. Temps were all in the low 80's at the time, it's power draw, not heat that does it.

I played with the over clocking on my laptop for a little bit at first, but really decided there was no benefit in speed for everyday use, so I stopped. The benefit for me versus how much money I had invested just was not worth frying the machine.

When I bought my laptop, I thought there would be a need to boast with over clock for Flight Sim 9, but as it turned out the FPS were maxed at 60fps at stock (FS is very CPU dependant) so that made it even easier to just run at stock settings.

So running it hard, will as you found shorten the life considerably. I suspected as much.

    On to the 8170….

That isn't necessarily true, I was up to around 90+ watts or so when I did some testing awhile back. This was reported by hwinfo. I think i could have gone further, but not without some extra cooling.

When you are pushing the limits this high really it’s the weakest link in each particular system that determines what fails.

So while you may be able to push your CPU and system higher, over time the type of failure you have may be the same or different and at what power levels nobody knows.

I am a bit surprised the main board died before the CPU on Johnnyflash’s system.

Sorry, sorry JohnnyFlash. Been there, done that - twice - with my 8760. Sager, patron saint of overclockers and distributor extraordinaire, replaced the board under warranty both times. There is no question that heavy power draw triggers the failure, but 75W by the CPU is not the magic number, I don't think there really is a magic number. Like CarlosGFK, I've had 90W+ runs in various benchmarking programs without incident. In fact, it takes about 82W to support the CPU at 24x across the board, and it can do that easily. But add in an o/c'ed GPU and the calculus gets fuzzy. When my first failure occurred I assumed it was my fault and was prepared to pay for the replacement. I was upfront about what happened and the o/c settings. My reseller took the position, and Sager agreed, that the motherboard should not have died under the circumstances and was therefore defective. The second board fried under considerably less stress. Again Sager replaced it forthwith. I don't know exactly what failed in either instance or why. When it was returned each time, there was a work order showing a motherboard replacement, but no other detail. My point JohnnyFlash is the fact that it died does not necessarily mean that you killed it. Sager was rock solid in my dealings with them and stood behind the 8760 without hesitation. Very impressive company, extraordinary service. I hope that you have a similar experience. Again, sorry for your bad fortune.

You're right, I don't think it was the 75TDP that killed it, I've been higher too. I think it was running that and the GPU at the same time that did it. Either way, boo-urns.

As for having it fixed, I got it cheap in China. Trying to get it serviced there, from where I am now just isn't worth the effort too me. I'm going to order a SB model from the US after I get back from vacation with 2 year coverage on it.

Well, suppose I can liven this thread up considering I'm now an owner of an NP 8760. I ordered a NP 8130 before the recall, but can't wait two months so I opted for one of the last 8760s.

    Can't wait!

Just to throw a heads up, looks like there's a good chance I'm selling my components.

Everything except the board works fine, and I've decided to dump $3k into a P170 instead for finding a replacement board.
