    So I've got:

    Speakers
    Realtek High Definition Audio

    Realtek Digital Output
    Realtek High Definition Audio

If put it on the first, I get sound out of the laptop speakers. If I put it on the second, I get nothing.

    Hi All,
I have a Pioneer W86 Dreambook (= Clevo W86xCU) and recently I have tried to connect an external monitor using the HDMI output but can not get the monitor to be recognised. I have so far tried the following connections:
    HDMI --> HDMI
    HDMI --> DVI
HDMI --> DVI Adapter --> DVI
all have produced zero results. Pressing the Fn + F7 makes the screen flash black momentarily but no change in the display output. nVidia CP shows no external monitor when using the HDMI (nVidia Driver v. 266.58). I have tried as many different methods of 'initiating' the connection as I can i.e turn laptop and monitor off before connecting the HDMI cable, hot plugging the HDMI, switching from DVI --> DVI to HDMI --DVI
I can successfully connect an external monitor using the DVI connector (DVI --> DVI).
My primary question is, is there something I am missing in the setup of the GPU/drivers or is this a hardware fault? and secondary if it was hardware based would a new GPU i.e. GTX 460M potentially fix it? TIA. **EDIT: OS: Windows 7 64bit **

Is your volume up? Both the digital output and your external source?

Does anyone know if it's possible to overvolt the 285m to 1.05 instead of 1.03 in the w860cu?

    Hi everyone,

Sorry for the quick message, but i recently picked up a W860CU (in mid feb 2011) with the following specs:

    i5 540M
    Geforce 460M GTX 1.5GB
    500GB HDD
    1080p x-glass
    DVD-RW

To my amazement the retailer seems to have accidentally shipped it with an R1 chassis, as there is no blue USB 3.0 port, the drivers refuse to install stating that the device was not found, and there is no mention of it in the BIOS.

As i will not be using USB 3.0 for a long time to come this does not concern me, however i think i read somewhere that R1 chassis owners encountered problems when installing a Geforce 460M.

The BIOS revision is 1.00.18, and the KBC/EC Firmware Revision is 1.00.11.

could anyone please confirm that the system should run fine with these revisions, or should i consider updating?

I would greatly appreciate a fast reply as i will be leaving the country very soon and have very little time to get it sorted :(

    Cheers

    -Zal

You have the latest BIOS version install which supports the 460M. The 460M works with R1 version.

I guess the best way for you to check is to turn the computer on ;)

You should be able to get sound over HDMI.
In Win7, I think you have to go to Control Panel>Sound. Look for HDMI and select as default.
(I'm working from memory here, as I'm in front of a crippled WinXP laptop at the office.)8o

But you *definitely* should be able to get sound through your HDMI out.

Does the sound still come out of the laptop speaker, or is there no sound at all?

Has anyone had trouble with their battery being recognized? I have tried resetting the battery several times to see if it would do anything, but I still receive notifications that "No battery is detected" with the on-hover on the system tray. This notification toggles on and off randomly. For example during the course of typing this message it has detected and not detected the battery 3 times.

Everything is working just fine... except if I pull my power plug out. :)

Does anyone know if you can get the power button to turn on the laptop when it is closed? I understand the safety of requiring it to be open (so you don't turn it on in your bag) but mine is on a shelf under my HDTV and I can't open it enough to get the power button to work. Anyone know a work-around?
    Thanks!

You can change the power settings, so if you close the lid, your laptop won't sleep. So, if you have switched on your laptop outside the shelf, close the lid and place it inside the shelf.

Should be in the advance power settings on the battery icon.

Click on the battery icon, click "More power options." "Change plan settings" for anyone you want to use, e.g. "High performance". Then click on "Change Advance power settings". Find the "Power button and lid" tab, then feel free to change the settings! :)

Tried that, indeed it works, however you need to push a key or move the trackpad to wake the computer up, (my mouse and keyboard are wireless, they can't wake a sleeping computer) and the screen must open to the same height (about 3 inches) that is required to make the power button work.
So what I think I need is someway around the safety requirement of having the laptop open to turn it on or wake it up from sleep or hibernation.

That's what I meant; if you completely disable sleep/hibernation, then you don't have to wake it up at all, hence not needing to find the right angles of switching it on all the time.

I had my laptop lid close while connected to an external HDMI output TV and playing NBA2K11 on my Gamepad. Basically, the laptop is still awake even while the LCD is down.

Unless of course, you put a book in between the LCD and keyboard. Vary the thickness to the point where the LCD still wakes up.

Another option is to change the settings of your wireless items; find the option where it says "Allow device to wake computer up." Not entirely sure if it applies to your wireless devices though.

    EDIT: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd450458.aspx
USB Selective Suspend. It's in the battery options again.

Yes but I still want the ability to sleep or hibernate and wake it up by pushing the power button, or even just power it on, all with the lid closed, and I don't believe there is a way to do either things. Basically never have to open the lid. Ever. I would wedge a book in it but my shelf is like 1/2 an inch too short for it (can't quite reach the correct angle) I appreciate the help but I think the answer lies in disabling the lid-closed-power-switch override, which might not be possible.

Well, I think I understand what you're saying, but it's not possible. Unless you can re-route the power button to outside the laptop, it's not going to work.

In my dorm room, I have a similar setup as yours, but I have to (its not a big deal, really) to open the lid to turn on my machine every now and then.

The power button is on the outside, the problem is that the laptop lid needs to open a certain amount for it to function. Maybe this is what I get for buying walmart furniture

    Yup.

    No sound at all.

At this point I'm wondering if its an issue with the TV, which is unfortunately entirely in Korean. I guess it's possible that it can only receive video over HDMI and not audio?

A caddy kinda holds a secondary device or item and place it in the optical drive.

In this case, most users use this advantage to replace the DVD drive and put a secondary HDD.

    Hi,

I have a Sager NP8690 with 8GB RAM and SSD and 5850 Graphics Card.

I wanted to inquire about upgrading my Graphics Card.

What options are available for upgrading my Graphics card. I can go NVidia or ATI.

    Any helpful hints are welcome.

    Thanks

as far as i know, the 8690 accepts new 75w, mxm 3.0 cards. There has been reports of the new 6970m working in the 8690, but 100w cards like GTX 485m won't work.

    Hi all,

Sorry but I can't find an answer to my question.

Do we have SATAII (3 Gb/s) or SATAIII (6 Gb/s) in our W860CUs?

    Thanks,

So I just decided to trade my 460m for a 5870 (clevo card) the other day....and noticed that the card will not automatically downclock which is forcing me to use profiles on the AMD GPU clock tool. Does anybody know how to set the card to automatically downclock and speed up when needed like my 460m used to do automatically? Thanks!

why not a 6970m? or a GTX 470m at least? and yea, that is a known issue with 5870m.

oh it was a straight up trade. I can't afford to buy a 6970 (yet) otherwise I would have bought one. Also, nobody seems to be selling their 470m's either. I can only get one from rjtech.com which sell them for like $550. Anyway a forum member wanted to do a straight up trade for my 460 and i told him that he would have to buy me a new heatsink for the 5870 if we were to do it. He wanted to try out 3d and I wanted to try an ATI card since I've never owned one before.

That's the way it is with the ATI card, there is no bios to fix that.
About the only real downside to ATI 5870 in a Sager.

Maybe if they allow upgrades to the 6970 there will be a bios that finally fixes the issue.

I have the same issue with a GTX470M in the old revision (without USB 3.0) of the W860CU.
Performance and everything seems to be fine but I can't see any downclock in GPU-Z. Temps are between 48C and 68C so far.

Where did you get your 470m from? How do you like it? I have the same older w860cu (without USB 3.0) and was under the impression that the470m may or may not work with our revision. Good to know that it does work. :)

Some resellers and Sager warned that the GTX 470M may not work 100% correctly with the non USB 3.0 motherboard so it could be that (doubt it though). However, you should check that Powermizer is correctly installed. I have found that some Nvidia Drivers do not downclock correctly while others do so you should try others if you haven't already done so.

I got it from one of the German Clevo resellers and I really like the power of this card. I was always wondering why the 460m should work and 470m should not as both cards are nearly the same.
Everything seems to be ok beside the downclock issue.

@Laptopnut: I've tried the last WHQL and the newest beta driver from the nVidia homepage. Perhaps I should try one from the Clevo homepage.

    Anyone have morrowind installed?

My NP8690 shutdown twice due to overheating while playing morrowind with MGE mod. Only happens if I alt tab though, and leave the game alt tabbed (browsing web etc). I start getting these really high fan revs and my cpu temps go up to 90c, core 3 mainly.

I cleaned out my fans, weren't that dirty to begin with.

    To replicate:
    open morrowind with mge
    alt tab
browse web for a few mins

Trying to determine if I need to redo the cpu's paste or what. Could an old video game cause my cpu to go crazy enough to overheat and shutdown?

    Hey guys,

    I'm looking to either:

    1) Upgrading the audio on my w860cu:
I play alot of BC2 and I feel there is too much crackling noise from tanks and explosions. So I've been drooling over the U-dac2. But I also see alot of people saying the X-fi cards are great. However I don't use surround headset, I have a pair of HD 555 that I use. What is the best deal here? And regarding the x-fi (or other alternatives): is there a big difference between the express-card models and the usb?

    2) Upgrading to a SSD and putting my HD in the ODD.
Where can I find a caddy that I know will fit? Read through the old thread about this subject, but there doesn't seem to be a consensus/link about which caddys fit the w860cu

These are the two upgrades I'm considering right now, one excludes the other pretty much. It would be very nice to have improved audio and gaming experience but the SSD is very tempting as well. Decisions, decisions...

5870 is better for games on average of about 15% on the games that I play compared to an overclocked 460m.

I overclocked the 5870 (no overvolt) and ended up getting 9775 GPU score on vantage so that almost surpasses my 460m by 1000 pts.

Anyway, I actually will be selling my 460m.....(long story don't ask). I basically had to buy the 5870 and will now be selling my 460m so if anybody wants it pm me.

9775 gpu points? Mine doesnt get more them 9092 with gpu 850 mhz and mem at 1080mhz.
And my cpu isnt the bottle neck that was overclocked to 3.4ghz on all 4 cores.

How did you get such a high score?

I must have a good card? I dunno I've never really compared my score to others ha ha. I think I overclocked it to 900 1100 on stock voltage....maybe a bit more.

Nevermind about selling my 460m....I already sold it.

    Hey everyone,

I bought this laptop 11 months ago from GenTech PC.
Everything works fine but yesterday my mom accidentally made a little crack on the bottom of my screen which messed up the entire screen. Now i am not able to see anything on the screen.

I contacted Sager but they told me my warranty does not cover accidental damage. So, they asked me to pay $400 bucks just to change teh damn screen. I said to myself, forget it.. it's too expansive.

Now, i am just trying to figure out where i can buy the same screen model that will fit in my laptop so i can install it myself. Also, i am trying to disassemble my laptop to take the screen out but there seems to be this plastic cover that blocks me from taking out the white cord from inverter. I have the screen shots attatched.

    SCREENSHOT:
    Broken Screen :

plastic that blocks the lcd cord thingy:

How would i take the plastic cover off? i am scared i might brake it.

Shame! I can't believe she got away with it. :D

There is service manual at the first post. Look in the " Removing the Keyboard" section.

Alright guys my HDMI output to my TV is not working all of a sudden. I know nothing is wrong with the cable or TV since it displays the image when I restart but goes off when it boots into windows. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the drivers but it will not recognize the TV when plugged in. Any advise?

UPDATE: If the drivers are uninstalled the TV comes on when it boots into windows. Really strange

Re-installing windows has fixed the problem.

I'm trying to connect my HTC Incredible to my laptop via bluetooth. I am getting the following message on my laptop, "Bluetooth Peripheral Driver no driver found". I popped in the driver disk that came with the laptop, but there isn't a bluetooth driver on it. There also isn't one on Sager's website. I haven't been able to find any information specific to this laptop. Anyone else encounter this problem?

Does the driver not install on your laptop, when you enable it with the fn + whatever key activates it?

It does not appear to. When I activate BT (fn+f12) I get my BT tray icon. I can see my phone, which I have setup to be discovered, in the BT devices window, but it has a yellow exclamation point. It has the same error when I use Win7 to troubleshoot it.

I have tried sending and receiving files using BT File Transfer app (Android app) and also just via Win7, but they don't seem to be able to talk to one another further than acknowledging each others existence.

Using Win7 BT file transfer and trying to send a file from laptop to phone, my phone receives the error "This transfer is forbidden by the target device". On my laptop is simply says "Windows was unable to transfer some files".

I've been having some issues with my laptop as of late.

The first issue is with the touch pad. Settings do not seem to stick, meaning, i can't make it disable when using usb mouse. I either have to disable it completely or just live with it.
I suppose it's a driver issue. I am using the sentelic driver for MSI GT680 in order to get all the other functions. This might be the issue. Does anyone else have a driver that is known to work and also with gestures/multi touch?

My second problem, which isn't that much of an issue really, is that realtek hd audio manager doesn't seem to load up after the second or third reboot after installing the driver. I can access it fine in control panel and when i do the icon in tray becomes visible, but i feel that's quite the hassle when i need to only access the EQ. I'm using the latest driver from realteks website.

Anyone had similar issues? Any fix is welcome!
