My battery is f8cked up :(
But, i have to wait for 2 weeks ( fastest) to get the replacement, because local dealer still replacing it's storage cache ( in Indonesia, w860cu still kinds of rare :( :( )

Confused, because the handler told me, if i don't want to wait that long, he said i could bought an external battery (SSD-sized) about 8800 mAh and if i bought it from him, he'll remove the internal of my battery for free ( so i could use the battery case since one of body support is on the battery case). Well, his price only higher about US$ 1-2 from other seller..

But, external battery will be recognized as AC support, and i don;t really think those external will hold up for w860cu in desktop mode -_-"

Have had some problems with this myself. I am now using driver version 8.4.2.8. I set it up for two finger scrolling which I feel is better than the side scrolling (but not excactly great).

I also couldn't get the touchpad to disable when plugged in or typing so now I just use Fn-F1 to manually disable/enable it which is working out great. ;)

Can't help you with the audio problems, but I can recommend the Creative X-Fi HD which I recently purchased. The difference in sound quality is simply amazing, I would have never expected it to be so different. Music is great and BFBC2 became like a whole new game :)

Yea i've been meaning to buy a new sound card. Just haven't gotten around doing it. Good to hear someone else is having issues. The weird thing is that it worked perfectly fine a couple of months ago. Maybe i should just revert to the driver specified on Sager.

    LATE EDIT:
The specified driver at sager's site doesn't change much. In fact it doesn't install but that could be that the one i had previously installed is still in use. Haven't properly tested it out.

I have a question on the driver for the GTX 285M, I used the smart scan on the Nvidia website for my driver. It directed me to Driver 267.76 WHQL Windows 7, it was just updated March 24, 2011. I installed it and it seems to recognize my NP8690, when i tried the other updates on Nvidia's website for this particular card, it doesn't recognize it.

My question is, will it work fine? (considering I've already installed it just now.)

Edit: The reason for installing this driver is because I sometimes get blackscreen(sometimes 40 seconds to a minute) when playing game, but can still hear background music/sfx. I've tried playing Starcraft 2, it is much better than the offical sager driver i used before. If I put the texture or sharder higher than low, blackscreen may occur. However, since I installed this one, I can go to ultra texture quality and medium shader(High will have blackscreen, but last only 2-3 seconds).

I downloaded modded AMD 11.4 test drivers wich enable 2 screen eye finity wich is awsome.
Ive tested eye finity with 2 big screens and with 2 high end beamers.

the 2 screens got together a resolution of 3840x1080.
    2 screen eye finity

But the wall wasnt big enough to fit this super wide screen wich is 5 meters wide :p
And the color difference wasnt noticable with the eye but with camera it was kinda too bright on the right side.
And what youre seeing is a wii emulator, wich is quite cool to wii at higher then normal resolution.
    Beamers + laptop setup
    Acual beamer screen / wall

Ive just had my w860cu at really nice temps, i have got a notebook cooler with 4 fans and when i put the laptop in sleepmode the fans of the cooler keep blowing so after 30 minutes i got these temps.

    Which processor have you got?
You need the 920xm or 940xm to overclock.

Anyone have 860cu + 460m + 3d working? I still cannot get it working for squat (3d did work before I upgraded the 285 to 460m). Say panel is not recognized as 3d.

I was under the impression that you need to have a 120hz monitor to get 3d to work. The w860cu only has a 60hz monitor. If you connect it to an external tv/monitor, it should work. Somebody confirm this??

Apologies for butting in here, but I'm trying to sell my W860CU and I was wondering what a fair price would be.

It's got a i7 740, 4GB RAM, quadro FX 2800 (GTX 260 or something), and 320GB HDD. I've been trying to sell it for £700 ($1150) on ebay but no one is interested! It cost £1300 ($2100) four months ago for goodness sake!

Am I seriously asking too much? Again, I apologise for butting in with this random question... but it is the OWNERS lounge and that's the kind of thing one would ask in a lounge.

    seems like a fair price.

Now here's my question....I may jump the gun and buy a 940xm and a amd 6970m to test in my clevo w860cu. In order for me to handle that much power (and assuming that the 6970 will work) I will need to buy a new power supply unit. So...does anybody know what 150w-220w PSU would work for this model? Any help is much appreciated!

I had this exact problem until I reflashed the gfx card with an MSI image and installed a clean Windows 7. The clocks are now dynamic, it's just that I don't know why.

The now working setup uses an 5870m (originally with an "ATI" VBIOS) and the latest mobile drivers for the card. I hate to say this, but it just works :/

Conceptually, it is as easy as:
    • Obtain flashing tools
    • Obtain the VBIOS to flash
    • Prepare the VBIOS if necessary
    • Use the flasher
    • Reinstall drivers
, but naturally, this expands to more activities.

    Obtain flashing tools
Try ATI WinFlash from TechPowerUp!. The windows tools are quickly obtained and need no preparation.
I for one use rather the DOS flasher (atiflash, also obtainable from TechPowerUp), since I have had problems with failed operation from Windows. Using the DOS flasher means that you will have to create a DOS start disk that is big enough for the flasher and the flash image. I use a 1 GB USB stick with a bare MS-DOS 6.22 on it ( only system files, command interpreter and HIMEM ).
There are many ways to create such an image. Even FreeDOS can work well. FreeDOS is included in several Linux based tool images, such as System Rescue CD.

The main advantage of a DOS tool is that you can easily perform "blind flash", which is necessary when flashing has made the screen black.

    Obtain the VBIOS to flash
Talking to any friend, like the ones on this board, opens immediately for the use of alien VBIOSen. I simply copied the VBIOS from my son's new MSI computer, mostly for own use, but also for protection, in case the "little" fella decides to follow his father's track and hack a little.

    Prepare the VBIOS if necessary
Depending on the tool you use, it may be necessary change the "Sub Vendor ID" and "Video card ID". This needs careful consideration. See comments in RBE.
One of the most popular reasons for flashing a VBIOS is to change clocks and voltages for increased performance, improved power management or other parameters (such as fan speed control parameters). Most people changes the VBIOS image for some reason, so changing the "Sub Vendor ID" and "Video card ID" is small potatoes.

    Flash
The Windows flasher for ATI can flash alies VBIOSen immediately.
The DOS mode ATI flasher supports flashing an alien VBIOS through a command line option. Look for an option "force".

Once the flasher is finished, the computer should be rebooted.

    Reinstall drivers
The new VBIOS may present the video card as a different video card. Especially for Windows, this forces install of new drivers. Typically, Windows will fall back to SVGA mode (800x600) and let you install "new" drivers.

    Enjoy :)

I've had my 860cu for a while now, but only just realized something. I bought Corsair 1333mhz ram with it, but hwinfo32 says its only running at 667. I don't see anywhere to alter this in the BIOS. Anything I'm missing here?

Would any MSI Mobility HD 5870 work?
I have flashed such a bios a while ago and it was from an msi gx660 and the flashing went well but my dvi didnt work anymore.
So I flashed back to stock vbios and its working fine.

I never thought of checking DVI (I only use HDMI), but I will test this and report. I expect *any* 5870m VBIOS to work, since there is little difference between the few available models.

PS--from what I can tell, you will need a 5870 heatsink (possibly your 460m heatsink will work).

Possibly my 460m heatsink will work, just need an inch of thermal pad to make it sure no other chips other than GPU die tap in heatsink.

Hm my HDMI works and I get sound from the DVI as expected.

Transfer speeds with two quite ordinary disks is just above 110 MB/s. The update plans include a dual SSD setup :D ... and a 6970m.
Too bad I haven't been able to use the mini PCIe port for a USB3 controller. The mini PCIe "sandard" is a hoax - just about any configuration is possible for the hardware manufacturers, using the very same physical contact :(

I do not think that the HDSPA/TV "mini PCIe" port can be used for that. Once I had fitted the physical contact, I tested five mini PCIe cards and none of them was detected. I will possibly look further into this issue with the help of some BIOS hackers to see if we have a very short white list...

I would save my money for smarter upgrades.

Thanks! I guess SSD + HDD in ODD is the way to go.

How do you guys think the motherboard will handle the power draw from an overclocked 920xm and a 6970m? I'm not talking about the PSU, which obviously will have to be 180w, but the motherboard itself. How will it handle it?

I see the 920xm are dropping fast in price on ebay, and I am looking to upgrade come fall. I'm just not sure if the w860cu will handle all the power draw, and perhaps a 6970m is enough in itself? I even considered switching to a 620m, which is only 45W but same or better performance as the 720qm, to be on the safe side. However if it can handle an overcoked 920xm and a 6970m it would be awesome :D

    EDIT:

kingkong: wherer did you get the 6970m from btw?

You know that a raid with ssd's is overkill for the diskdrive slot? its only sata150 (if I am not mistaking ofc)

Can your cooling hold 3.33ghz with your 920xm?
Mine cant go further then 2.2ghz on all cores the temps go up to 87+ celsius and thats even with a notebook cooler with 4 fans directly blowing in the cpu fan.
I have benchmarked 3d mark vantage at 3.33ghz but it gets up to 93c, but real 3d rendering like 3ds max is not possible it gets way too hott for long term use.
The termal paste I have is artic silver 5 and applied it to the whole chip.

Actually i never used it in gaming, i set it for benchmarking only. 1 g0t those figures with 90degreesC +, i am afraid to fried my cpu so Now i am using default/stock speed. The key there is PSU, in my stock 120W i always got bsod. Now with 180W i can push multiplier beyond its limits but as what i have said i used it for benchmarking only. 920xm is overkill so need to overclock.
