Hi, Would someone have experience in bios issues? flashed my bios and now it doesn't recognise any drives, even though it goes up to the bios screen and that's it.

any tricks in replacing the bios or bios chip?

    Thanks,
    Michael

Long shot, anyone got a used battery from a dead W860CU they'd sell? Mine works but I have no battery, makes it feel incomplete. It can be a dead battery, just need it to balance the laptop. It's always plugged in as a HTPC.

I'll end up fabricating something out of fiberglass or something if I can't find something

Hi, I stuffed up the BIOS and need to replace the chip, does anyone knows the location of the BIOS chip? Pictures would be great.

    Thanks,

Does anyone know if MySn XMG7C .12 BIOS has voltage and amp. available like other Bios??
I'm afraid my ac adapter is not working properly but before buying a new one want to check voltage under working conditions.

    Thanks

It's been awhile.... my Laptop is going on 6 years old now..... I upgraded the GPU about 3 years ago to a 6970M and am looking into doing it again....

Would a 7970M/8970M/R9 290XM work with this order machine? I have seen pictures and they all look to be identical with my 6970M....

Would I need another heatsink or flash the BIOS or vBIOS?

I know the machine is older but it works like a champ just trying to extend it out a bit more. I never thought I would get this much life from a laptop but the upgrade ability has been awesome.

Hope someone can help me. Bought a Clevo without gpu(GTX 285m Original was in there). Seller Said the gtx 285m was dead. Now I bought a GTX 285m from EBay who "Runs" also in a W860CU.
But at the First Start no Pic(Black Screen) on external Screen Same fault.
    Here how it goes:
Starting the Laptop, Fans run, lights are on. Thats it.
When i press now ctrl-Alt-clear the laptop restarts and i hear 2x beep.
But when I press F1 after starting the Laptop the HDD light is blinking and it seems the Clevo starts Up in Windows and works but without a Picture.
Do you think the new GTX 285m is also dead?

I think it's more likely to be the VGA if you can hear it boot with the card in but get no display.

You said you can get it to boot in the background in to windows but get no display, given the age and the fact that those cards are kind of known for doing this I would say the GPUs are the primary suspect.

So, some news. The 285m works in a Erazer X6811.
So is the Mainboard broken or is in the 285m a faulty VBios that doesn't work in a W860CU?

You can keep on eye on the members market here or on ebay for the best bets, I guess you just need the empty space filled?

Due to the age I think you will either have to bite the bullet or keep an eye out.

If you want to balance the machine you could use something to fill the gap and use double sided tape to keep it in place for now.

there are older laptops than this, and they are available in the battery market. and nowhere to be found on this notebook, even the use of, or the dead.

may be someone of the users does not need dead battery and he wants to sell it. I'll buy it

Most other laptops use a 'generic' shape and can be interchanged, even across brands. Hence there's a bigger demand for replacements. This model's battery is pretty much unique and, stranger still, uses lithium polymer pouch type cells, not standard li-ion 18650 cilinder type. That's something you expect to see with ultrabooks and Apples, not gaming laptops or DTRs, since they're more expensive, tend to bulge (hydrogen build-up) and there's no 'slimness' goal to achieve.

Either try checking similar-era Clevos, like the W870CU, to broaden the search or, like Meaker suggested, a diy mod. A block of polystyrene would be easily cut to size and might be wrapped/covered in black electrical tape. Just make sure to have it extend somewhat, taking the height of the absent rubber foot into account.

Yeah my battery burned off, literally doesn't work at all.

Currently in a position of saving up some money and maybe installing kizwan's unlocked BIOS, getting a bigger PSU (I have one laying around w/ 220W) buying a 920XM along my 6970M (which is holding up nicely).

And then just going ham :D

The 7970M requires a heatsink fit (modification), and flash.

    Don't know about the others.

Also a 920XM or 940XM (maybe too expensive, not worth in my eyes) would be nice to have installed too, so your GPU isn't a magical little box.

On top of that you'd need a larger PSU.

As above, it will be a fair bit more work to get it running up another level. Balance that cost against a new machine of course too.

    Yes that is the issue.

Literally cheaper buying a new or used new workstation with 1½-2x the power.

    Nostalgia is expensive...

The 1060 is such a step forward it has rendered a lot of upgrade paths obsolete.

The 1060 can be had down to a fairly low price and out paces even the old 980 desktop card so the performance per $ ratio is high enough that older cards struggle to match it.
