Hey! I'm rather new to the forums, but i definitely just bought a Np8690, and I also play steam fairly frequently

It gets here on the the 11th though since I picked slower shipping -
I am retardedly excited... like kid getting his first bicycle excited. -
-
I think it's because Sager's distribution warehouse is located in Baldwin Park. Newegg has warehouses there too. I gotta drive down there when I get back to California in Jan just to see it. I bet the whole city is a giant warehouse. BTW Brandon I was in Chicago (well Rolling Meadows) for a 1.5 months and just got back a few weeks ago. Chicago is a nice clean place, giordano's pizza was great. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
If you ordered a Sager NP8690 they all come from the Sager factory in City of Industry, CA, and are originally routed through Baldwin Park.
-
I ordered a W860CU, so apparently the Clevos come out of there as well.
Joker - Giordano's is amazing stuff. Next time you're in town let me know, there are places that are even BETTER than Giordanos, if you can imagine that! -
Toronto is actually pretty good on the food front. Very multicultural.
And UPS charges something like 4% brokerage fees unless you get express shipping. Still sad I wont get it till sunday as I expected it to come during the week when I was not home, so I got it shipped to a friend who could stay home to recieve it. -

had a look at a W860CU today at www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk , the screen is significantly better than M860TU, much much brighter and sharper and not as glossy. I like it baby!

How were the viewing angles, contrast ratio and colors? I need details man! -
http://www.notebookjournal.de/tests/test-review-deviltech-9700-dtx--clevo-w860cu-nkmo-1039
you'll love w860cu's screen260nit average, high contrast and good viewing angles.
-
260 nit you say? That alone makes me happy.
Edit: the battery time makes me cringe:
About the display, this seems like really good news!:
-
Delivered on Oct. 9.
5150Joker, I think you will be very please with the display. All my friends agreed that the display is the best they have seen yet. It won't be as good as RGB displays but its pretty darn close. -
Hey guys, just about to pull the trigger on one of these, but I'm really stuck on whether or not to fork out the 200$ for dead pixel insurance. I'm in Canada, so I wouldn't get the free 3day shipping, couldn't I just be able to claim to be unhappy with my purchase and send it back and get a full refund if get a dead pixel? What am I even paying for here??
-
Supposedly it's the same display used in the Dell Studio XPS 16 (the 15.6" WLED version). If that's true, then I know I'll be impressed.I should have mine by Wednesday...can't wait! If you guys know anyone that wants to buy a notebook for cheap, I've got my Asus G51 for sale (see my sig).

-
Thanks for the info Soviet Sunrise, in light of this information I am going ahead with my order. I still can't stomach the 200$ strictly for them to check my screen, so I'm going to go all the way and get the 2 year warranty + deadpixel insurance for 230$. I figure this way I'm at least getting a little more for my money.
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Yes, that is a good choice. Two years parts and labor warranty with dead pixel warranty stacked ontop of it for $100 more is a good compromise.
-
While I'm waiting for mine to arrive... I know it's been said that it's very solid, but I'm curious about the construction of the 8690. I've found mixed comments about what is plastic and what's metal on it. Clearly the bottom is plastic, but what about the display lid and the palm rest? If any of the panels are aluminum, are they painted or anodized?
I also remember reading that the frame is aluminum and instead of plastic.
Anyone know? -
Judging by the weight, I'd guess it's fully plastic.

Wow, 12 miles away from my home and wont arrive 'till monday.
-
Yeah I just got off the phone with UPS:
Me: hi this is spybenj. I'd like to refuse shipment so please return to sender.
UPS: normally we have to make a delivery attempt first.
Me: I'm having a vasectomy that day, I won't be available. Please send it back.
UPS: Oh sorry. Ok item will be sent back. -
Alright ChinNoobonic, you don't have to be the first one to break 14k in 3dmark06, I went ahead and did it myself.
-
-
Excellent! Suade, have you joined the W860/W870 Steam group? If not here's the link: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Clevo_W860_W870 Everyone else with a W860 are encouraged to join as well. This group is a "branch" of the KGB specifically meant for the elite agents (W860/W870 owners). -
why not see what it can do without putting it on fire of course. I'll will push it even further if some one challenges me to beat those numbers. Man, only if I can OC the cpu 15k would be the target to hit for.
-
Wow 700 core is impressive! I'm surprised the core and shader clock held up at those speeds. I'll be installing Windows XP SP3 and Win 7 on mine when it arrives. XP yields higher 3dmark scores than Vista/Win 7 so if my card OC's as well as yours, consider yourself challenged! -
-
Chin can you take a picture of where the sticker is, I will do that aswell.

Not sure if this is too offtopic.
Im getting L4D2 as I've decided and I have 3 people for a group and need 1 more.
Any 8690 owners want to get L4D2 with me for $35? -
If you break down the score, yours actually got a huge boost from the 920xm. His GPU's SM 3.0 score is well above yours thanks to the overclock. If you added your CPU score to his, then his final score would have been >14,600. -
Someone help young benj out! -
babyhemi, are those your max clocks that gives you the best performance or are you just playing conservatively? -
Nevermind, I got all 4 people
And noobic, youve pushed it enouigh. Time to retire rofl -
Edit: This was a FULL HD laptop BTW. -
The guys over at www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk did a test of the different CPU's
Here is Neil's (CTO) post:
I thought it would be a good idea to get some comparitive benchmarks between the CPU options on these two laptops. Seeing as we decided to put the same GTX 280M in both chassis the CPU choice is the main way to increase the performance. I decided to keep it simple (admittedly partly due to lack of time!) so we ran 3DMark06 for GPU and the CPU bench as well as the full Cinebench run. The latter runs the same test in a single thread and then multithreadded which will give a good indication of how the Turbo Mode performance works on the different CPUs.
Here is the core load vs core speed information:
i7-720QM
Max Intel Turbo Boost Frequency (GHz):
4 core: 1.73
3 core: 1.73
2 core: 2.40
1 core: 2.80
i7-820QM
Max Intel Turbo Boost Frequency (GHz):
4 core: 2.00
3 core: 2.00
2 core: 2.80
1 core: 3.06
i7-920XM
Max Intel Turbo Boost Frequency (GHz):
4 core: 2.26
3 core: 2.26
2 core: 3.06
1 core: 3.20
What all this basically means in laymans terms is that in multithread intensive apps the CPU will keep its speed down to reduce heat output but when running non multithreaded apps like the majority of games the CPUs will increase their speed for better performance on only one or two cores. So for example in the 920 Cinebench results the CPU was running one core at 3.20GHz for the single CPU Render Test but running at 2.26GHz for the Multiple CPU Render Test.
Testing was carrier out with a clean install of Windows 7 HP and 4GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM. Before the pics here are the individual results:
720 1.6GHz-2.8GHz
3DMark06 - 11,827
Cinebench Single Thread - 3,741
Cinebench Multi Thread - 10,207
820 1.73GHz-3.06GHz
3DMark06 - 12,363
Cinebench Single Thread - 4,142
Cinebench Multi Thread - 11,879
920 2.0GHz-3.2GHz
3DMark06 - 12,772
Cinebench Single Thread - 4,366
Cinebench Multi Thread - 12,848
----------------------------------------------------------------
There are screen shots over on their forum...

just on the materials front, there is alot more plastic than on the 8662. The keyboard area and I'm pretty sure the lid is all plastic. Which for me is a positive as its alot hard to to scratch than the 8662, which was very easy to scratch.

I wanted to know where the QX9300 stood against the 720, 820, and 920. On one core, even the 720 would look to be faster. On 2 cores, the 820 and 920 would undoubtedly be faster. But on 4 cores? I wasn't so sure. Anyway, here are the results at 2.93ghz.
3DMark06 - 12,775 (185.85, old test but stock clocks)
Cinebench Single Thread - 3,270
Cinebench Multi Thread - 11,551
At 2.53ghz, the results would only look worse, heh. In 3dmark06 it scored the same as the 920. So we can generally assume multi-threaded game performance, where CPU clockspeed is a factor, the 920 and OC'd QX9300 are roughly equal. Thing is, the 920 can still be OC'd...
The QX9300 gets killed in the single thread CPU test, even by the 720. In multithread, it's just a bit slower than the 820. Surprised me at first, because the i7's are low-clocked when all 4 cores are running, but hyperthreading lends a helping hand here. -
The notebook journal guys seemed to be quite enthusiastic about the display. I'm surprised you don't find it to be as good as the 1330 xps which is a fairly "low end" system. -
Yah Jason at PcTorque said they would have the 1080p screen models ready this week, so I'm gonna guess I get mine.....Friday with 3 day shipping. Give or take how long Sager takes on inspecting my 9280 I sent in which they got Friday, and then crediting me with the $$/difference. I know I'm tired of using the old man's desktop, I just want to sit on my bed and be on my own comp, Although this is the desktop I sold him, so it WAS mine at one time I guess. ( man I hate desktops now! It's like this...keyboard, and and, this external screen, the big speakers, the cords!!! I'm ruined by Sager's dynamite laptops
)
-
Of course that laptop broke boundries, and was a GREAT laptop, but the screen? Phew -
