What Nvidia graphics drivers are everyone using? I went to the Nvidia site and got the 195.39 betas for the GeForce 200M series under Windows 64bit and the installer tells me I don't have anything supported??

What notebook sleeve would you guys recommend for a W860CU ?

I saw a one 15.4 inch sleeve from Zeroshock at my local computershop, but since I'm still waiting for my laptop to actually arrive, I can't find out if it would fit or not. (I'm a bit concerned about the height)

Nope, reason is 1 dead pixel isnt worth $200 imo. Its near the bottom center square, where the taskbar is.
Any idea? Reason I think its stuck is it works for most colours, and at certain angles it works

Poor spybenj, he'd have never known about it if I hadn't meddled! :p When my notebook gets here, I'm going to throw some salt over my shoulder, knock on wood, and recite some chants before I fire up the laptop and look for stuck/dead pixels.

Well I got mine Monday and I haven't done anything with it since I don't have an operating system yet (Win 7 should be arriving tomorrow). So talk about a killjoy experience. Its like getting it on with a girl only to have her stop you because her chastity belt doesn't expire after two days :D. Probably a bad analogy but in my case entirely reasonable since my previous laptop was a Dell Inspiron 6000. I'm sure the difference in performance will be tremendous.

I like the look of the laptop. It looks stylish yet understated and seem to be of very quality construction. There is no flex around the keyboard area but the back of the LCD lid seems to have a lot of flex especially towards the hinge area. It even makes a soft clicking noise when i press down there. My Dell also has a lot of flex in the same area of the LCD lid so I don't know if that's normal in laptops or not.

Anyway, I can't wait till tomorrow.

I tried to install XP on it but the machine wont accept the drivers. Something to do with AHCI controller which cannot be changed in the BIOS. Anyway instead of fiddling around with it and forcing it accept XP like slipstreaming with nlite as some user here suggested, I thought I just wait till I get Win 7. I got Win 7 Professional full version for $29.99 from Microsoft because of student discounts.

Ah, good point. I forgot about XP not having SATA support out of the box. Should've said something, I'd have uploaded my slipstreamed XP CD for ya and you could've used your own key. Oh well, only a few more hours till your 7 arrives.

This was my original plan. Install XP and then download Win 7. But since the Sager does not accept XP and my Dell only has a cd burner and 8G free space out of 40G in my hard drive (the rest are filled with precious videos :D j/k), I just bowed to the inevitable and got the DVD from MS. I thought about running to Best Buy but it was like $199.99. I can wait 2 days if it means saving $170.

I am about to RMA my G51J as the screen is so bad. Please let me know how the screen in the Sager is when you get it Joker. I think that is one of the most important aspects of a gaming laptop so all of your feedback will be appreciated. I am especially interested in the contrast/black levels and the viewing angles. When I start up my G51J, the normally black screen is a gross shade of gray. If the Sager screen is on par with the ASUS screen I will have to continue my hunt for a gaming laptop.
BTW, why does Xotic have the $200 30 day pixel warranty? I noticed they also have a 30 day full refund anyway so could you not just return it if you are not fully satisfied?

    Window 7 just doesn't install help :(
After the preliminary steps of asking for language and localization, it asks for a driver. Any idea why it does that, and what kind of driver it wants, and where I can get hold of one?

Maybe it's asking for an SATA driver (though it should be built in). Did your system come with a driver dvd?

If you want a sure bet on LCD quality, then I'd recommend you look at AW. Dell uses high quality displays in their top notebooks and based on what I've read, everyone that has the new M15x is completely satisfied with the display.

Shipping for some people(ie. me)costs $130, some people more. Thats why, I have a dead pixel :(
Also, screen quality is great, though I am buying a LG one probably as I want no dead pixels.

If you do plan to replace your current screen with an LG, be sure that you get an LCD cable compatible for an LG socket as the cable that comes with your AUO may not fit.

I can bet you that when I get my notebook, the display will be flawless. My luck is untouchable.

So I got an email from Sager from David Lau, his message is:
Received the unit yesterday is in process the credit.
So I wonder how long it takes them to credit the 9280 to the 8690 and then receive the difference also?
Oh and WOW PRIORITY mail, I sent the 9280 Tuesday, and it got to Sager on Monday? lol mide as well have shipped it UPS ground.

My 9280 had a somewhat " low end " AUO in it, and it had a 600ish Contrast Ratio, which is actually pretty good for a LCD. I absolutely loved it, and yet the 8690/8760 have LED screens, which usually have even BETTER blacks and whites due to the LEDs and no backlamp per se. But I'm guessing the Asus screen is similar to my old Gateway 6831, and wow, that was a bad screen for blacks and colors. I will divert you to this link :
    http://translate.google.com/transla...tebook-review-mysn-xmg6--clevo-w860cu--1008/4
and you can see how nice the screen is ( I mean it's not like wow, but it's ALOT better than the Asus ).
Ok and here is my old 9280's screen : http://www.notebookjournal.de/storage/show/image/image4a001d3ee84c9

I tried to jinx myself with all the notebooks I have bought in the past. My D400V screen, both M38AW screens, both M570TU screens, and the replacement screens I have bought for my clients' notebooks in the past have been flawless. I guess you can say I tried my luck on the replacement screen on my M570TU as it did have a stuck pixel on the far left section, but it somehoow disappeared after a few days. And even if it didn't go away, I had a six month no dead pixel warranty on it, so I could have sent it back for another one if I felt like it. Like I said, my luck is untouchable.

Ok, I'm going to say.... phew... I have " never " had a dead or stuck pixel... ( oh man I'm so screwed with my 8690... I know it...) and so far have been pretty lucky. My 9280 was perfect...and sometimes I wonder if sending it back for a 8690 was the right thing to do... I mean what if my 8690 has tons of problems? I just hope it was a good move ( and it was really overkill for my casual use/MMO gaming), saved me like $500 too. But back on the screen topic.. say if I got a dead pixel/stuck within like 20 days of purchasing the laptop... does Sager actually have that in a warranty? Or am I just screwed if I get one even the second I turn it on? Because honestly a pixel problem IMO is such a gray area, since most of them don't show up until a few days into owning it...but hell if a Vid card blew it's top 3 days after I received my laptop, Sager would replace it....but not a screen?? I honestly don't care as much if I got a dead pixel 6 months later ( which isn't really very likely ) I could just buy another panel for a decent price by then. But within the actual 15-30 day initial warranty, I would say they should replace them.

Sager's standard warranty regarding dead pixels is fairly consistent with the rest of the industry. I forgot the exact numbers for Sager, but it's something like if you get five or more stuck or dead pixels in total, or one stuck or dead pixels in the center section, then it is considered defective and you may send it back. You might need to email them about it as I am pulling this from memory.

I think I remember you posting about this before and a lot of people were replying about how it would be very costly for LCD manufacturers to produce flawless panels without driving up the price way high. Dead pixels do not warrant the screen as defective unless there are enough of them. This cannot be analogically correlated with defective GPU's because it is a different situation. If a GPU is giving errors or fries, it's broken. It's as simple as that. If an LCD has one or two dead pixels, it is still perfectly usable according to ISO standards.

You have two options. You can either purchase the no dead pixel warranty, which treats your notebook as DOA if the screen comes with any defective pixels. Or you can return the notebook under the standard warranty and get your full refund back minus the "free" shipping that Sager paid to ship the notebook to you, and rebuy the notebook with your fingers crossed hoping that you would get a pixel perfect screen. But the chance of the second attempt also having dead pixels is still there, so that's up to you if you want to gamble your luck.

I think I talked about it here too. From post #26 to #32. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=429548&page=3

Dead pixels and stuck sub-pixels are a result of LCD technology…it isn’t a perfect science. It is much less of a concern today than it used to be because the technology has improved so much.

There are 6,220,800 sub-pixels on a Full HD screen, so 1-5 stuck sub-pixels is really quite understandable. The defective pixel policy for Sager computers is the best in the industry. If you have more than 5 dead pixels or stuck sub-pixels, or even one in the center square (#) of your screen it is a warranty issue and will be replaced.

If you have fewer than this and decide return it for exchange under the 30 Day Total Satisfaction Guarantee - see http://www.powernotebooks.com/info/sager_warranty12-1-06.php, there is no guarantee that you will get a screen with no dead pixels or stuck sub-pixels unless you purchase the No Dead Pixel guarantee on your exchange unit. The guarantee is $200, or $100 if bundled with a 2 or 3 year extended warranty.

it can be very bothersome, i had one on my NDS lite when i bought it, the touchscreen and it just felt...bad. when you buy high-tech gadgets, you want it to be in perfect condition, why should you settle for manufacturing defects?

on a side-note, where is it possible to measure my brightness and contrast ratio? Brianvp said his behemoth had 600:1, where can i find mine? is it a program that will measure it or what?

LOL i think something is seriously wrong. tried 2 whole day using various method to install window7 pro 64 bit edition with failure as result.

Try using usb boot, try normal installing, tried installing vista before installing also cannot.

    Updated all drivers still cannot.

And yes i did insert the driver disc and each time it takes about 5 minute to load. And another 5 min trying to install it. And in the end it will just return a message saying no new driver is found and cannot click on next. Stipuid microsoft. Wonder when clevo release its new bio will solve the problem.

3xtinct, I am not sure which media you are using to install, but I successfully installed Win7 64bit from my free windows launch party DVD. If you ordered online and got a image/key there have been some issues with those installs and Microsoft has released a workaround.

Mine prompted me to do a Upgrade, which I could not do since there wasn't a previous windows installation on the disk. I chose Advanced and I had to delete the partition and create/format format a new one. It was a little tricky as I swear it didn't work the first and second time but finally did on the third. I must have done something different or not clicked in the right order - I've been doing this for years so not sure, maybe I was too excited. Setup took about 20 minutes and I did not have to install any additional drivers to get working.

After windows 7 was installed I did install ALL of the drivers off the included drivers disc as the function keys, finger tracking pad, and card reader seemed to work better with those... so I figured same with the rest. Before I installed the latest WHQL Nvidia drivers I was limited to 1600x900 and after installing them I got the full beauty of 1920x1080. Love it so far!

What does the Legacy OS support option in the BIOS do? If you disable it mentions something about enabling EFI?? Anyone know what I should have this set to? Thanks!
