Quiet mode tends to make the fans louder from my experience.

The fans do not whine when under normal use, not sure about in game (I have a Zalman under it and my headset on).

I wouldn't think the speakers to be anything exceptional from the notebook world. They will be pretty similar to what you would find on other brands.

 

I'm glad to hear there isn't a whine with the fans. As for the speakers, you of course can't expect too much from notebook speakers but some notebooks have very weak volume. So much so that you pretty much turn up the volume to max and leave it there all the time. I was curious how the 8690 did in that regard.

 

So you can basically say for gaming this is a dual core with 4 threads at best. but a Quad core clocked at 1.60ghz wouldn't have too much more throughput than a dual core clocked at 2.8ghz though would it. Of course it would in CAD or something, but in most games it wouldn't be too much of a big deal.

8690 owners, how does the lid mechanism work? I don't see any latches, is this a magnetic locking system on the lid? I did notice a bar in the middle front of the lid, but I don't see any claws to latch into the chassis itself.

Doesn't wire transfer take a couple days to clear? I used a credit card so that was instant confirmation for me. You could always call/email too.

Keep in mind that I do not have the W860CU, nor the W870CU. I was merely setting a goal for myself to achieve three hours because I was able to achieve two and a half hours on my M570TU on light load through my own hardware and software streamlining. I'm pretty sure I can touch over two and a half hours once I get my notebook. Whether it will be the W860CU or the W870CU or the G51J, nobody knows. I have decided to keep my choice undisclosed until I receive it and have it set up.

That's what I was wondering.. I didn't think a wire transfer would be any faster than paypal echeck, but now I'm not so sure..

I didn't use a credit card, because the cash discount basically = free shipping.

 

1) I sent the wire transfer on the 19th of october
2) You can pay $30 and its instant(atleast with my bank account)

Wire transfers within the US take about 2 hours going from one bank to the other.

International wire transfers from Canada are usually there the next day, and from elsewhere in the world they can take 2-3 banking days.

No matter how you slice it, wire transfer is the fastest and safest way to send money.

 

Also when you are done partying with your new laptop can you post some youtube vids?

Will do spybenj. I'm just admiring the beauty of this machine. My girlfirend plans to steal it lol. I know a lot of users don't comment on the carrying case that comes with it, and I have to say it's pretty decent. I probably wont use it, but it's something really nice to have.

 

Oh yeah, I forgot about the carrying case. Man when I first opened it up I threw everything to the side and just went straight for the laptop.

 

I donated my free carrying case to the Salvation Army.

 

I'll do it for some kind of tax write-off.

I too have run vB boards before, and the people that consider it an exploit need to have their heads checked. The 10char rule was invented to keep people from wasting others' time because they made a post with no actual content.
