yeah, they are working on a driver that will make the fn keys reflect to the way they are shown on the SS keyboard (which is a lot more reasonable than the fn key layout on the stock).
I really despise the shift key on the stock ><
-
Who sells the SteelSeries keyboard separately? I want to buy one.
-
Would there be a portable USB sound card that would help improve the onboard speaker quality or does that not exist? Lol sorry I'm a newb to this audio stuff.
-
RK COMPUTERS got it but they are expensive
-
I have played with 3 machines in the last two weeks with the chicklet steelseries keyboard...two on GT60s, and 1 on an P150em. While I liked the overall tactile feeling of them, EVERY SINGLE ONE had a problem with the spacebar. You HAD to push it in the middle for it to recognize a space, and in some cases it registered two spaces with one press. The edges of the bar were completely useless, and this is where I tend to hit the bar. I'm not saying this is the case for all of the chicklet steelseries keyboards, and the stock keyboard on the P150em is far from perfect (curse you left shift...) but I really think you may be trading one set of problems for another by switching. There are several complaints over this problem in the MSI subforums.
-
I asked the same question but it turns out that does not exist, your only solution is to use portable USB card + headphones/external speakers to get a decent sound on this beast.
-
Noob, not sure if this right place to ask question. Got my NP9150 just over a month now, great machine. I have one problem, the webcam works fine with Skype and Yahoo Messenger but flickers with Windows Live Messenger. Spent a lot of time trouble shooting, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, googled for new drivers/solutions but all failed. Has anyone had this problem and if so, any solution. Any help to this old man would be greatly appreciated (I know I can dump Windows Messenger and use Skype).
-
Try contacting your reseller. They're very likely to have a few.
Yeah, that's what I've heard. Never bothered to try it myself since I'm not an audiophile. -
Ahh I guess I'll have to go that route then, so I have some dre beats solo if I used that with an asus xonar u3 would that be enough to higher the sound quality you think or no?
-
yes I think this will be perfect combination, I have read many postive reviews about the asus xonar u3 and I own dr.dre studio headphones myself and they are one of the best headphones Ive ever used. enjoy the beats and good luck
-
Heh, Beats by Dre are actually pretty crappy headphones (no offense) but they really just arent that good.
-
I owned bose quitcomfort 15 dr.dre studio and shure e525, to be honest I would say best bass dr.dre, most comfortable to the bose and best quality to the shure, but I will never say crappy to the beats.
-
None of the headphones you listed are particularly high-end, though.
-
One thinks mainstream is good.. oh the people now a days heh
-
Well they're good enough for me which is all that matters really so would a asus u3 work well with that?
-
And I got 'em brand new for only $70, not the $200 they usually sell for so im pretty happy with them I just wana know of a USB slond card like the u3 will help increase the sound quality for them on the sager or not
-
Yes, it will.

How odd. Using my laptop today, just surfing, my screen turns black for a second then back on. Weird. I went on using it for a couple hours on and off, mainly just web stuff and basic work tasks. Then I went to check something with GPU-z and realized my 680m was no longer showing up, not in control panel or anything. A reboot fixed it, but that just seems problematic. Almost like it shut off completely. Anyone else experience something like this?
-
Sometimes, after resuming from sleep, it seems like my 680m driver gets unloaded, it reverts back to a yellow question mark in device manager, and none of the control panels or nVidia right click options appear. A simple reboot always fixes it though. This has happened on more than one install of windows, and with both the 302.77, an 302.92 drivers.
At this point I don't believe optimus is actually working properly, and shutting down the 680m correctly. Seems like it is running all the time. Some of the AW guys have a build of 305.68 that is working well on the m18's with 680m SLI. I will be trying out this driver tomorrow when I get some time. I will need to modify the inf for our cards tho. -
Great, let us know how that works out and please share inf.
-
Well, after unzipping the driver I noticed it doesnt even have the folder for optimus in the install.. Not sure if this is going to help any.

7970 running fine so far... but got a blue screen yesterday watching a video on espn (flash, I believe). BUT, for the most part, I have played Crysis 2, Need for speed world, and Tribes all without any issues. I think the 7970m bashing is limited to the lunatic fringe of users. BUT, I would like to get the new driver when available, and the Sager support site has a driver dated from May (before I even got this 9150). Anyone hear anything about new drivers? GA drivers, not beta, I need stability for work use.
Thanks! -

I've heard many times that those headphones aren't really high end, but I haven't heard what headphones are considered "high end". I'm curious to hear what headphones are considered good by those in the know.
-
It depends what you need/use them for, but I do a lot of audio recording and engineering (mostly classical music), and I have a set of Sennheiser HD 380s and a set of AKG K701s. The K701s are fairly objective (meaning they don't colour the sound), which is great for mixing and listening to classical music, but they're open-backed, so they're not really useful while making the actual recording. The HD 380s are a bit bass- and mid-heavy, but they have really good passive isolation, and you can still tell what you should be hearing. Both companies (Sennheiser especially) have higher-end models that cost a lot more, but these two models are either at the upper end of mid-range or the lower end of high-range, depending on your perspective. And for the work I dowhere objective sound is vitalthey're actually more appropriate than something more expensive that would colour the sound with the goal of achieving a specific sound.
Bose gear isn't objectively terrible, but they're VERY overpriced for what you getyou can get equally good equipment for half the price. I got my HD 380s for less money than the QuietComfort 15s cost, and the Sennheisers absolutely blow them away.
Beats, on the other hand, is the epitome of "pretty bad AND way overpriced". If you only use them for listening to music where hugely exaggerated bass is important, I guess they'd be okay, but my impression when I tried out a set of Beats was that I was listening to everything in a fishbowl. Nothing above 200 Hz had any definition whatsoever.
Anyway, poke around the head-fi.org forums sometime if you want to see what some people consider "high-end"
Things can get pretty hairy out there...
-
Well, stuff like some of the higher end Grados, Senheisers, Ultrasones, AudioTechnicas, the Audez'e LCD 2's, Shure's, the Denon AH-D2000/5000/7000, Beyerdynamic's, HiFiMan, AKG's, etc. Pretty much any model from those brands that is $300+ would be "mid-fi+" and then when you get into the $800-$1000+ range you have the real high end stuff.
Personally, I own the AudioTechnica ATH-M50's and the Grado SR-80's, both of which are fairly low end models, yet still very good. They each are about $100 items. Hopefully soon I will be able to get into some better cans

Hi,I replaced my original disk with a SSD and cloned the partitions but I forgot to backup BCD settings and now my f11 restore option is broken, I have tried to restore it but I can't make it work; anyone knows how to restore it? Bellor are my BCD settings: Those are my listed Volumes This is how it should look like (spectroplasm that owns a myth 170EM sent me, tnx btw) .
I know I have to restore the last Windows bootloader GUID{d553467a-eb8c-11e1-95de-c9ddc49c3751} and the ramdisksdidevice under Device Options... I also read somewhere that HardDiskVolume6 is the ram memory
Tnx for any help! Cheers -
I know this may not be what you want to hear, but you would be way better off just doing a clean install onto the SSD.
-
I did since I couldn't use the restore, but somehow my system is not performing like new... on stupid example is my wei that was 7.2 for the graphics and now is 6.9, and no it is not the intel 4000 because the other graphics score is 5.3 which is the intel graphics... this among other things... plus the myht install is zero bloatware and all already tuned and customized... Tnx anyway
If anyone can figure how to restore the BCD I appreciate. -
Achusaysblessyou eecs geek ftw :D
Just FYI, if WEI's the only thing that's different, then it's fine. WEI is notoriously inaccurate and variable and Microsoft should NOT be using it as all it does is confuse people who don't know.
ie. How does the Intel 3000/4000 get 5.0+ when the 330m on my old Vaio Z got 5.6? (the 330M is almost double the performance of the HD 3000)
And there's also the issue of different people getting different WEI scores with identical hardware -
No as I said the wei is only one of the issues I am experiencing.... I know the ei is inaccurate but my sytem is the same and it should be inaccurate the same amount... not each time a score... but tnx anyway...
I still would like any help on editing the BCD... cheers -
To those of you who have not had problems with the 7970M, please tell me what drivers you are using.
-
I'm just using the drivers that came with the notebook and that are on the Clevo web site. I have had no blue screens from them. I have tried other drivers on the clevo Catalyst control centre but have had issues. If you don't use the Clevo catalyst control centre then Enduro does not work.

Hmm... I've been having an odd thing occurring lately. Whenever i try to put my laptop into sleep mode or hibernate it, I can still hear my CPU fan running, blowing out hot air, and the power light is still on despite me hitting hibernate or closing the lid. When I re open the lid, it doesn't turn on, and I need to click on my mouse to wake it up :S I really hate shutting down my computer every time since I don't have an SSD and it loads up slooooow without one.
Has this been happening to anyone else? -
I'm not sure of all the details here, but if you have it set to hibernate, it'll take around 30 seconds to write the state to the HDD. Of which the fan and stuff will still be running. If it's taking longer than that and not hibernating, then I'm not sure.
-
My NP9150 should be here soon
It has already cleared customs in to Canada. I can't wait, the anticipation is killing me!!!
-
Well, I recall once i slept the laptop for like 2 hours, the fan was still running when i came back and it was burning hot o.o

Can anyone recommend a good laptop backpack?
Currently looking at this one. -
I have the slightly cheaper version of that, this one: Newegg.com - Wenger Green GRANITE 15.6" Computer Backpack Model GA-7335-07F00
It's a nice backpack, but it only has 2 main compartments, would be nice to have more. That model looks like it would be great, I kinda wish I got that one. -
so guys
what do you use to clean the screen?
also any recent driver updates in past month or so for 7970m?
havent been around to check mainly because it been working well for everything but I would like to have the latest if there any with less enduro issues for upcoming games
also
will that backpack you guys posted fit the 9150 well? I feel like it might require a 17 inch laptop backpack especially with the power brick -
The best way to clean your screen is to get a lint free or micro fiber cloth and some isopropolyn. (rubbing alcohol) Dilute the isopropolyn with water (50/50 is fine) and get a spray bottle or mister. You can spray your screen directly, but don't drench it, or spray the cloth.
No new drivers from AMD. -
ok what the heck
these screws holding down the keyboard are garbage
the grooves are so shallow
i have tried like 10 different screwdrivers with no luck
these things are like impossible to take out
any suggestions? -
Hi
I'd like someone just to expand over this. Is this possible, and what do I need for this to happen?
I have my laptop on the way, with a HDD caddy and 750GB hard drive. Is it actually possible for me to remove the hard drive and just slot it into the caddy, and then put a SATA III SSD in its place? Do i need an enclosure or anything for that? does the primary drive area support SATA III?
And is this a wise move, considering I buy a 128gb 2.5" SSD? -
ALL you need is the caddy and the hard drive you want to install and of course the screwdriver, no need for enclosure or anything else and yes the primary drive support sata III where the optical drive bay support only sata II. I would recommend you to get a bigger SSD (256gb will be fine) as 128gb is really small unless you intend to go back and forth between the main and the secondary storage, oh yea congrats on your new lappy.
-
Yes.. sadly, heh
You'll need to visit a computer store of a kind, they've got some nice tools to take off the keyboard, don't dig too much into it though. You might ruin the screws -
Question:
I'm looking at a USB/pSATA connector cable thing on ebay- 0,5m SATA 22 PIN 22p female HDD to Power ESATA + USB 2.0 male 5V hard dirver | eBay -it's a connector to SATA devices providing power through the USB and pSATA connections and also transferring data. So it seems handy.
It says... make sure your laptop can output 12V power in order to use 12V devices. Can anyone clarify whether this would be the case?
Advice:
Because I've filled the drive bay with a hard drive, I've resorted to external blu-ray drives. I bought one from ebay for £50 but the connection's not great. So my solution is I've bought this cable- Slimline 13 Pin SATA with USB Power & ESATA Data Cable 794504426038 | eBay -which does something similar to connect to laptop disk drives. I advise anybody looking for an external blu ray drive to buy this (it hasn't arrived so I can't confirm it works) and buy a second-hand laptop BR drive. It will (probably) have much faster transfer speeds compared to drives with one or two USB connectors, and will be cheaper.
I'll let y'all know if it works. lol. -
These laptops only have 5v out, so you can only use 2.5" HD's. I am not sure if an external BD drive would work with that cable. You should be able to use a BD drive with no problems via USB though... Especially USB 3.
-
can anyone confirm this?
the 750gb HDD speed won't suffer as a result of the change? -
Correct. Only some regular HD's even max out SATA I, and none even come close to maxing out sata II. Only high end SSD's will benefit from sata III, so putting the SSD on sata III and the HD on sata II is the way to go. That's how my system is setup, vertex 4 on sata III, 1TB 5400 HD on sata II in the optical bay.
-
I ended up putting a lot of pressure on the screw head, although I was afraid I might crack something, but I got it out. The screw in my hard drive that came with my machine is still stuck in there. I can't get it out.
