Wipe your second drive. You'll select in BIOS which drive to boot from (your SSD) and any other drives will simply be treated as an additional drive. In fact, you don't even need to wipe it (if you're lazy) and your latpop will treat your HDD as just another drive (for storage) even though it has windows on it (I was too lazy to do that to by desktop HDD since it was 1TB and too lazy to wipe it)

You may also have to reassign it a drive letter/path before Windows sees it, you can do that in disk management.

also, is it odd that Windows 7 took up 31% (38gb) of the space on my SSD?

Uhh what edition of windows do you have? My C:/Windows folder is 20GB (not sure what a fresh install was). I have heard that Ultimate takes up a bit more space. Also, sounds like you have a 128GB SSD, after decimal to binary conversion (from 1000 to 2^10 since you're going from gigabyte to "gebi"-byte) you should be at 119GB, so that might explain some of the stuff.

That is alot. Check your page file as Windows will set it to the amount of RAM you have. If you have 16GB or 8GB the page file will be the same and will be shown as unavailable space. You can change that to a small amount like 1GB or less since you have alot of RAM. Heres how to Change the size of virtual memory

I'm using Windows 7 Home. And you're right, I'm using a 128gb SSD, which actually shows 119GB free storage.. Not sure what you mean by the 10th power and gebi-byte lol. I'll have to look that up or maybe if you don't mind explaining it a little more, that would be cool too.

Yeah, I just followed your link's instructions and it's showing 16,280MB of space being used, which is just under 16GB, I believe. I'm guessing this is because of the 16GB of RAM I have installed. So does this mean that I have more space on my SSD than what it's showing?

P.S. what exactly is a page file and what does it do?

Yes change that amount from 16280MB to 512MB, all that space has been taken on your SSD for the page file. What that is used for is when you are doing so much on your computer you use more the 16GB of RAM, then it will use that allocated space. And you'll rarely if ever use that much RAM. Changing it is what you want to do and you'll get all that space back on your SSD.

    Loose Hard Drives:

When I accidentally jolt my 9130, my computer will completely shut off. I think this is because my SSD and HDD are a bit loose in its slots. I think I saw someone else mention this problem before. I just took a sheet of paper and folded it a few times and then put one piece of folded paper on each hard drive to minimize the free space inside the compartments. Do you guys think this is ok to do/use as a spacer? Before putting in the paper as a spacer, I could hold my laptop up, shake it a little and hear my SSD and HDD (in the optical drive slot) moving around a bit loosely.

So, manufacturers calculate KB as 1000 bytes and MB as 1000 KB, etc. Which is correct since kilo means 1000 and mega 1000000, but computers are binary and so 1 KB on the computer is 2^10 bytes or 1024 bytes. So your 128 GB SSD is 128,000,000,000 bytes, but divide by 2^30 to get how many GB your computer sees. Which is 119 GB.

As for page file, think of it as additional ram, when your computer runs out of RAM, it'll start moving files to the page file a.k.a. virtual ram which means that it uses your hard drive space like ram. however with 16 GB of RAM, you won't run out of ram anytime soon (unles you're running tons of virtual machines or try to run poorly coded cs project like me which sometimes cause ram to overflow). Just set page file to1 GB or less, windows does need some, so don't set to 0.

I used double sided mounting tape to mount my 7mm Samsung 830 (i only removed the tape on one side and let the drive simple rest on the other) but I'd suggest using some electrical tape and just layer them til it feels flush, using mounting tape might be too thick. A roll of electrical tape should cost $1-2 at your local hardware store.

Has anyone here tried Nvidia's new 306.02 driver? I'm considering installing it, but don't especially want to have to roll back to 295.62 (the driver Sager is still distributing) if Optimus doesn't work properly or if it lowers performance, so it would be nice to get confirmation that neither of those issues are still present.

Which drivers are you using currently? Look at the changelog for the 306.02 and there really isn't anything that you'll probably benefit from by going to that driver.

    here are the release notes:

    http://us.download.nvidia.com/Windows/306.02/306.02-win8-win7-winvista-notebook-release-notes.pdf

The essential thing is that this is the WHQL for the Nvidia 660Ti (desktop chip).

Not at all, games primarily reply on the video RAM built onto the video card. Even if it did use system RAM you'd need to be using more then 16GB which wont happen.

I was using 301.42 and noticed a lot of artifacting in GW2. With 306.2 those artifacts are gone. However, I haven't really checked to see if there was any performance differences between the 2.

I bought a turtle beach amigo II to rectify the sound issue, seriously, the built in headphone jack is literally is the worst headphone output I have heard on any device bar none. At least there was a fairly cheap fix. Also quick question, my current drivers are 302.59, I'm not sacrificing some serious performance by using these drivers am I?

Has anyone had any issues with Wifi? Earlier today I was using the internet, then I had to pack up my laptop and go to school. I get back hours later, start up my laptop and for whatever reason it will not connect to my wireless router. Both my old HP, which I'm on now and my Iphone connect and use the internet fine.

One thing that has helped me fix a problem similar to this has been to remove the connection manually from the manage networks option. I did this and then tried to reconnect, but it still gives me the same problem. I don't get any errors that would signal to me that this is a hardware issue, but I have no idea.. And yes, the wifi is on, not off.

Nope, I've not experience this issue with the Intel 6250 in my lappy. If a reboot fixes it and the problem doesn't persist then I'd write it off as a 1 time bug, if not, then possibly driver or other software issue, don't think its a hardware issue

Had my 9130 for a couple of days now and I must say I am pretty happy with it. The 95% screen looks incredible and the speakers are mediocre as expected. The only problem I have is that the space bar is a bit "sticky". Does anybody know how I would go about fixing this? Also at idle the machine is near silent but when I'm gaming the fans are a bit noisy. Without throttlestop my i7 3610 is pegged at 75c (2.3GHz) and with throttlestop activated it goes as high as 89c (3.0GHz). This is without the IC diamond factory upgrade. I've been thinking about grabbing some MX4 paste from Newegg.

Why is the included AC Adapter unit on NP130 only 120 watts? Isn't that a bit short when the stock GTX 670m is 75w TDP and i7-3610qm is 45W equalling to 120 watts to be exact.

Is everyone's AC Adapter only 120watts? I mean i can understand the 180watts on the Np9150 since the gpu upgrade like 675m/680m or 7970m have 100w TDP.

Can anyone tell me how is 120w ac adapter enough when the total watts of the gpu and a quadcore cpu alone is 120w.

    Hey guys,

I just got an active Displayport to DVI-DL adapter for my NP9130/P151EM to connect to my Achieva Shimian IPSB 27" 2560x1440 monitor and it worked! (Well, I thought it would, but as far as I can tell I'm the first to actually try it).

The adapter I'm using is the only one on the market, the BizLink one (rebranded by both Dell and Accell, who sells it for $110 on Amazon). I bought it off Ebay from this seller:

Bizlink KS10008 DisplayPort to DVI-D Dual Link Adapter Cable | eBay

So just FYI for those of you wondering if this was possible :). Haven't tried gaming, but expect a large performance hit :p

It came with the 1.5gb GTX 670m.

I was thinking about getting the np9150 with the 7970 (which according to benchmarks was a fairly significant step up.)

But that would've ran me an additional 300-400 bucks, money which I needed for furniture and other crap for a move.

We're on the 9130 thread, all of them come with a 670m :p (unless someone modded theirs)

Yeah, I agree, it wasn't worth it for the performance gain considering that the 670M is a pretty capable card in of itself (GTX 460 range iirc)

I have been wondering; how has the heat on the battery been? I will most likely be using this while plugged in since the Nvidea Optimus will kick in anytime I unplug the laptop so with having the laptop always plugged in does there seem to be a lot of heat generated on the battery to the point of feeling the need to remove it while plugged in?

Also is throttlestop what is currently being used to disable Nvidea Optimus?

The battery is quite safe from the heat, so no, i don't see any immediate need to remove the battery, although battery life isn't great to start with anyways, so degradation won't be that severe in any case.

throttlestop is to stop the CPU from being throttled

Hey guys just got my np 9130 and wanted to play the witcher 2 on steam. So far I can only run it smoothly on low settings. If i go to medium it starts having frame rate drops. I got the most recent nvidia beta drivers even tried the older one but nothings working. Anyone here manage to get this game working? Also anyone recommend any modded drivers out there for the 670m?

Make sure your CPU isn't throttling, are you temps alright too?

I would turn on ThrottleStop and make sure that the game is not being affected by anything, also make sure optimus doesn't activate for some reason by whitelisting the game.

For anyone who recently purchased this laptop through xoticpc.com: How long did it take you to get your laptop? How many days from when the order was confirmed to the time they shipped it? I had no customizations other then the free upgrades offered on the RAM and HDD, I also upgraded to the I7. I'm just trying to get an estimate on when I might receive the computer. Thanks in advanced!

Well my payment cleared on the 7th, and it hasn't been shipped yet. Looks like I'm looking at the 12-15 day range for mine. I'm looking at 4 days shipping tho. I'm really hoping to get the update that the thing has shipped sometime today or tomorrow. I'd like to have it on a truck heading my way before the weekend. This wait is killing me. Especially since i know i could build this thing myself in 2-3 hours.

Yes safe to say the least. Just make sure to always check your temps with either ThrottleStop itself or a program like HWiNFO64 :)

Hey guys, so I just got my NP9130 yesterday, and I had a quick question. I noticed that the earphone jack is a very tight fit, to the point where I have to really yank on the cable to get the plug out. In addition, the audio on my earbuds is much more "tinny" (no low range, distorted mid range) than it is on either my old computer or my phone which I use for music. My earbuds aren't amazing, but they have a pretty decent range. Is this normal for the laptop or is it something with the drivers/software (I spent a long time playing with the THX effects and found that setting the "speaker" setting to maximum improves it slightly, but not completely), or is it a hardware issue?

Other than that, I love the laptop! Now my network is the slowest part of my setup by far, hahaha

The jack seems a little tight for me (might be lots for you as there's always manufacturing differences) but i think it'll loosen up over time as it gets used (better than too loose?).

As for the sound quality, yeah, that's been a major issue around here, so either 1) live with it (I'm good) or 2) buy a usb soundcard (haven't tried it, but have heard that helps A LOT)

Yes, the USB sound card helps a lot. The sound immediately feels richer and more bass-y. I plonked down $22 for mine, so that is the sort of money you can probably expect to pay.
