Exactly! I've said it so many times now, a USB sound card just blows almost any laptop sound card away, just take the money and place it on a external one...you won't be disappointed :D

Hey all, looking to getting a msata Crucial M4 128GB SSD to replace my aging Corsair Force 3 90GB. Anyone have any pics of a msata install on a NP9130/50? I thought it was under the keyboard......

Its not under the keyboard. It will be in the main compartment bay which you remove the big bottom panel for.

Nope, it should be under the large bottom access panel. HERE is a video of the NP9150 (very close to the 9130) that will show you where items should be located.

At about 4:48 in the video, it shows the removal and installation.

The mSATA interface on this system is SATA II so you'll have a slight bottleneck w/ the m4, but it should still be faster than your Force 3.

Now that I look at this.....a M4 128GB msata is the same price as a 2.5" M4 128GB......may as well go with the 2.5".

Most people normally opt for the msata if its same price the standard size :) hehe. However in this case I would go with full size only because sata ii limit of the msata port.

Thanks! Would you guys have any recommendations on what kind? I'm not planning on setting up a surround system anytime in the future, but this guy is pretty cheap: Newegg.com - DIAMOND XS71U 7.1 Channels 16-bit 48KHz USB Interface Sound Card
However, this one seems like it should have a better quality overall (it can push up to 24bit, 96 khz, instead of 16 bit, 48khz). Newegg.com - Enermax AP001E 24-bit 96KHz USB Interface DreamBass Genie, Audio with Built-in Amplifier and Earphone From personal experience I think that there's a detectable difference in a change like that, but I'd love some input.

There's also this one, which has a lower bitrate and is more expensive, but seems to have some decent equalizer software with it as well
    Newegg.com - ASUS Xonar U3 16-bit 48KHz USB Interface Sound Card

Edit: out of curiosity, is it possible to replace the internal sound card?

I don't think it's possible to replace the internal sound card (I remember someone saying it's not possible) but don't quote me on that, in my experience though, the sound card is usually built into the mobo, but I may be wrong.

I haven't any experience with external sound cards so, I can't help you there. I'd suggest reading through the P150EM thread as they have the same problem we do (essentially the same laptop really)

The amigo 2 is pretty nice, but when theres no audio playing, there is a constant but low hiss/hum noise, not sure if that's how theyre built, or if mine is just defective, either way its not a big issue, can't hear the hum with my over ear headphones, only my in ear buds.

    Hey guys,

I've had my NP 9130 for 1 month now and I'm beginning to get 1 or 2 BSOD a day. I don't believe that it's the 9130 itself, I think it's the Samsung 830 128gb SSD that I installed from newegg when I received the computer. However, I don't know enough about computers to know whether it really is my SSD or if it's my video card or something else. Here is a screenshot of one of my BSOD, maybe one of you guys can give me some advice. In the case that it is my SSD, recommendations on how to wipe/return/warranty would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

Have you updated your firmware for the SSD, while it wasn't necessary to do so with HDD you should with SSD. Check Samsungs site to see if they have a newer version then what you have.

Did u do a fresh install when u installed your ssd? Hit the windows key and type in the search bar "reliability history" and what does windows say about these bsods?

You can get HD Tune which has a health and error scan feature to to test the drive.

Hey guys! I might be grabbing this machine today (after a year and a half of research)! Sorry to intrude on the conversation, but I wanted to ask how you guys have the storage on your machines set up. I am thinking whether to do the HDD in the odd bay or have the odd blu ray and just have an external HDD. Thank you for your help guys! By the way, does the 670m run hot in the 9130? And how much battery life can you get with just websurfing? I'm getting mine with the 660m so I just want to know.

If you own blu ray movies now and plan on watching them on the computer get that drive. If you don't go with a HDD in there then a SSD in the primary bay. I have a lot of blu ray movies but would never watch them on notebook. It all depends on how your habits are.
The 670M doesnt get hot, underload we usually hear ~80C which is pretty typical for most gaming cards.
For battery life on power save mode, screen brightness down etc you'll get around 3hrs or a little over.

If you plan on getting the 660M check out the NP6350 which has that GPU and two hard drive bays as well as an optical bay.

Hmm I guess so, but what are big differences between them other than weight and storage options? Even with a 660m, the 9130 can't achieve a little more battery (although, battery isn't my main concern)?

That really is the biggest difference. The video card, two hard drive bays, and the NP9130 has 4 RAM slots vs 3 in the 6350 so you can install more RAM in the 9130. You can still install up to 24GB in the 6350 which will be more then enough for most peoples use.

I guess. When I installed it I created the partition and loaded Windows 7 on it, if that counts as a fresh install, though isn't that you only choice?

Here is a screen shot of my reliability history. 6.PNG

Not all of the errors were due to the BSOD, for instance my game kept crapping out on me for some reason. The "not properly shut down" messages are from the BSOD, which is gives no information about.

Ok thanks, I'll check it out

Has anyone tried borderlands 2 with physX on high with the np9130? If so did you play around with dedicating physX to your CPU or GPU in the nvidia control panel and see which setting ran better?

Same machine, old name being used.

The difference is P151EM/P151EM1 versus the actual P150EM (backlit keyboard, rubberized finish and so on)

Anybody getting a loud buzzing noise from the dvd drive? It seems like the vibration is causing the bezel of the drive to hit some other part of the notebook.

I have been playing borderlands 2 with PhysX on high since the game has come out. No problems and it looks great! I didnt have to do anything in the nvidia control panel, just install the game and go. Everything works great. I'm really loving this machine. Note: The game did default the PhysX on low, I'm not sure why but it runs fine on High, even in the big battles via 4 player co-op.

I had this same issue... I just moved the tray with my finger up and down and it seems to fix it. It happens with almost every cd i put in there... but I don't use it that much, and the discs seem to read fine, so I'm deeming this a non-issue.

If you get a teeny bit of foam (the thin packaging foam works too) you can place it on top of the DVD drive before you slide it in. That will reduce noise and vibration. I did that with my optical bay caddy. My HDD can get pretty rowdy.

Ok guys I have a problem with my sager playing guild wars 2. judging from posts in this thread this laptop can indeed max out on GW but for some reason i could barely play on low with decent fps (around 25-40 fps). I have a feeling it might be using the integrated processor but when i go to the nvidia control panel I applied the high performance processor so it should be using the right gpu? kinda sucks and annoying man, my buddy has a lenovo and it runs smoother than mine and i spent way more money than him. any help?

    What are your specs.

Also, what are you guys getting for your load temps for the GPU? Even after repasting my GPU goes up to 83-84c in bf3.
Though I've noticed that temps are a good 3-4c higher in small CQ maps like Donya Fortress than big maps like Karkand.

Did you get an OS installed or did you do it yourself? I would download the drivers from the sager site that Hutsady posted. I couldn't get the drivers from Intel or Nivida's site to work, the ones from Sager worked perfectly tho. I'm running Borderlands 2 on high everything including PhsyX with no problems.

Yeah I mean it runs fine, but I have a pretty strong preference for a smooth 60 fps, cranking physX to high kinda puts the game into 30fps territory under full load.

Have you tried associating the game with the correct GPU? Applying the high performance processor might just be a global setting (might also differ if you on battery or not). I'd take a second look and see

I think I hit... 79... haven't played it in a while, but back when i did it was mid to high 70's

Been a bit since I last posted, :D. Anyone have any experience upgrading the GPU from the stock GTX 670M to something more current? (7970, GTX 680M) I realize that I will have to change the PSU to a 180w model of that of the NP9150 aka $95 from Sager, but is there anything else I am missing? Does any Clevo GPU work in the NP9130?

The motherboard in the 9130 inst designed for a card higher then 75W TDP. While people have put in the stronger 100W TDP cards you could be shortening the lifespan of the computer. The top "safe" card you can put in is the 670MX which is uses the new Kepler architecture and you'll see around 10-15% increase from your current Fermi based 670M
