No problems with the noise levels for me.

The P151SM1 can't be upgraded to a 780m or 8970m like the 157/150. Between the P157sm and P150sm there are changes in design and I think an extra HDD spot on the 157(double check anyone, xotic says the 157 has an extra hdd bay but is it talking about changing the optical drive?). When you look at the bottom there is an extra vent and design changes.

I believe it is easy to upgrade the GPU. I haven't opened mine up yet but from what I have heard it is easy.

The standard on Sager is good considering no errors in factory pasting. If you see temps above 85 regularly then you can go Artic Silver or ICD after 2 yr. ICD could scratch the die if removed wrongly so AS is better. There's loads of brands in the market - Anything which reduces temps by min 5 Deg is good enough.

Sweet. The 8970m is only 100 bucks up too. Way cheaper then the 780m base.. definitely have to get an 8255/8265 model from Xotic.

Okay, i do have one problem probably to do with drivers. A little while ago I was playing battlefield and everything was normal. The game ended and I exited the program. Then I go to play some Skyrim and on startup the screen is flickering and very slow. Mouse was lagging and couldn't even get to the quit button on the start screen so I had to alt+tab then exit. I disabled and got rid of all mods and same thing happened. I tried to play AVA and same thing on start up. I updated the drivers to see if that was it and upon restart, the same thing happened. What could this be? Is it only running integrated graphics? or a driver issue?

edit: Its a problem with the 13.4 catalyst that I downloaded the other night. battlefield isn't affected and some other games also aren't. But skyrim and some are. I do have the drivers cd that comes with the laptop. It takes 10min just to load up the main page on one of the cd's(should it even take that long?). I have to go for now will try tomorrow.

edit2: problem fixed by updating to the latest beta driver! It made games running on Directx9 more efficient. That explains why it wasn't happening to battlefield but to skyrim.

Hey everyone, so after finally getting windows installed and updated satisfactory, there is something concerning me about my np8265 (4800q , 770m)

Even totally idle, my PCH sensor in HWinfo is reading 63 degrees (min 62 max 65), and seems to be causing the CPU fan to boot up even when the cpu is doing nothing and clocking at 600mhz each (power saver, cores have not gone over 1500mhz and still getting these temps).

edit: up to 77 just downloading a steam game, unless i put the fans on leafblower mode, cpu barely even goes over 50 but the fan cranks away.

Isnt that my 87 chipset? is that located under one of the heatsinks (i.e, can i fix it by adjusting a thermal pad?) I'm wondering if anyone else can please tell me what their PCH temps are like in these systems, the keyboard seems to be getting pretty warm for just idling. CPU seems to be working fine but I havn't really done any stress testing yet due to concerns.

I know its within running temps, but totally idle on power saver seems fishy to me, I'm not about to start prime for hours at a time like this.

yes, I recommend the 8970m upgrade. Yes there are some driver problems but other than that nothing else. it runs professional applications like CAD great and is amazing at gaming!

Something is definitely off in your system. I have a P150SM, one of Mythlogics, and just sitting here web browsing, with the laptop on my comforter and the intake pretty well obstructed I'm idling at a pleasant 37c. I opted for the 4700mq mind you but there shouldn't be that big of a difference. I have noticed that sometimes the CPU fan will decide it wants to run at its lowest speed indefinitely even if the CPU is well chilled. Setting it to leaf-blower mode briefly and then immediately shutting it back off seems to persuade it to shut the fan off for a while.

Just so you know, the PCH doesn't have a heatsink covering it (I'm pretty sure...). That's why it's running so hot.

Hey guys, so i recently purchased a Sager NP8250. i7-4700, gtx 780m, 750gb hdd, and I recently put in a Samsung ssd.

So my boot drive was on my hdd, and I tried moving it to the ssd but I was having issues with it. Recently, I went into the bios but was unable to find the Samsung ssd under boot order. I decided to click on "return to original settings" in the bios, which kinda screwed up my laptop. I then had to go back and click on "boot into uefi mode", which seemed to solve everything.......until my laptop started to glitch and stutter every 30 sec or so. Now, whenever im playing any audio, or just browsing, my audio goes ZZZZ for 1/2 a second, my mouse becomes unresponsive, and I'm assuming the whole computer freezes.

i tracked the issue using resource monitor, and whenvver it starts stuttering, it seems to be coming from the hdd, which spikes TREMENDOUSLY in that duration. Does anyone know what could be causing the problem, and is there a fix?

Also, is there any easy way to move my boot drive to the ssd? I've been trying to do it for a while but im new to ssd's and have no idea how to use them.

Wipe the SSD, and HDD (back up your files), insert the SSD but not the HDD, reinstall Windows on the SSD, and then reinsert the HDD.

My laptop didn't come with a Windows 8 CD, is that ok? I have all my data backed up on an external hdd, but does that mean that my boot drive and all the sager drivers are saved on the external hdd?

As long as you have the serial number, you're fine. Just download the Windows 8 X64 ISO from a reputable site.

No, you must reinstall drivers. The backup files are just documents, pictures, videos, etc. No need to back up Window OS files when you are reinstalling.

Anyone have an idea if they are working on better fan control? For example it will turn on but never turn off unless you use Fn+1 to toggle it. Or to so the fan will ramp up smoother, rather than off, med, high. (I base this on how notebookcheck reported it.)

Also, I am interested in getting the P157SM, or maybe the P150SM. Is it possible to see the models in person someplace? I am in Southern Califronia.

ps - I want to say thanks to all that have posted in this thread, as I have read them all.

Has anyone had a problem with Blu ray playback? I was using CyberLink PowerDVD 10 (provided with my machine) and was getting a "No disk in drive E:" message. It would play DVDs and CDs fine. Had the same experience with PowerDVD 11 Ultra and 13 Ultra. TrueMedia Theater 6 works fine. According to CyberLink there is a problem with PowerDVD running on Haswell in "certain systems".

Am I the only one with this problem?

I have been looking for comparative images on google for 2013 Sager laptop 120W vs 180W adapter size. I could not find.

If anyone has a 765m and 770m/780m based laptop, could you please post an image for comparison. It would be nice for an image on a desk so that I can get an idea of its size w.r.t laptop or any other real world items. Would appreciate your time.

Do we know if the Haswell USB 3.0 fix is shipping in the units yet? Or if not, then how will it be handled if I buy a unit now? Will it cost me to get it fixed, shipping?

I remember news saying that Intel will provide C2 stepping units to OEMs by end of July. I thought OEMs like clevo would start issuing the laptops by Aug. Do you have an idea when would it appear in Sager laptops?

Intel meant the C2 stepping would be released to board manufacturers by the end of July. C2 stepping is probably going to be out (in products) mid to late September. Asus already has motherboards for sale with the C2 stepping. They are desktop motherboards, and the top-of-the-line ones at that.

If you want to know if Sager laptops have it yet, ask someone to post a screenshot of CPU-Z on the Mainboard section.

If you want specifically P15XSM, ask someone with a V3.5A motherboard to do so.

With the first gen (C1) of Hanswell (the Intel CPU), if you use a USB 3.0 device and put the computer to sleep. When the computer wakes up the USB 3.0 device will not be seen by the system. The work around is to unplug the USB device and plug it back in. The real fix is a new CPU, C2. Intel say it doesn't affect USB 2.0 devices, nor does it affect all USB 3.0 devices. Intel also claims there will be no data loss. Intel also considures this a minor issue, so it does seem they will not do a recall.

On the NP8235, the GPU is not upgradable, not to mention there is no backlit keyboard.

GPU updatability is never guaranteed. The GPU has to be compatible with the BIOS, power draw requirements, etc.

Hi, I have been worried about this issue as well.. I'm looking at getting a P150SM and have heard about fan profile issues a fair bit. If nothing is being done on it, does this mean the issue maybe isn't quite as bad as it sounds for the average user? I find it hard to guess how annoying the fan problems really are since I've never owned or even seen a Clevo laptop. I fully expect a loud machine while gaming and will be using headphones anyway so not an issue, more worried about idle fan activity.

Could anyone who is having this happen please expand a little on what it's actually like? (as in, is the fan coming on/off every 10/20/360 seconds? or will you boot up and without doing anything but browsing will the cpu fan just kick in and stay on even when everything is cool?)

Appreciate any input, it's been hard trying to get a good idea of what's happening there..

My P150SM when set to quiet mode in clevo control center and on battery power, the cpufan will spin up and will continue for at least ten minutes blowing cold air, the temp is around 38C. (I'm on bios 07 and ec 07). In performance mode and running of ac the fan behaves much better, it turns on and off in a timely manner.

Your best bet is to maybe ask sager for some more fan control options in the future.

How do we do that, is there a better email address to use? Should we ask for more stepping options, and more modes? I.e. a true quiet mode that throttles the cpu and gpu before turning on the fan on low, a mode that is quiet without too much throttling and turns the fan on low only when needed, etc.

I think best would be if we could control throttling to an extent, and control when the fan turns on and at what speeds. Of course this would be with hard set limits to prevent damage.

Has anybody tried two external monitors on P150SM?
I know there are three outputs but I am wondering if they work at the same time for driving up two external monitors together with the laptop screen, and what is the max resolution of the external monitors. (With the gtx770m or gtx780m card).

I have run into a slight problem. For some reason it is taking more than 5 secs between mouse input and when an application starts loading. When I click on chrome or any other program it shows the spinning wheel next to the mouse but then takes a while to load. I even checked task manager and there are no others tasks taking up memory or cpu usage. what could this be? the only thing i did between now and yesterday is download itunes and play some battlefield earlier that morning.

Just restarted and it happened the first time I started up chrome. Then it was back to normal! everything loaded fast again. I did check the power management settings and it didn't really show much except when the hard drive turns off when plugged in or not. hopefully I was looking at the right power management place.

Currently running some tests on the NP8265-S. It is revision 3.5A on the motherboard (happy about that), and so far in 3Dmark, it scores 5,183 without any sort of overclock / boost done to it. (I'm very happy about that).

    3DMark

Also, initial feeling of this laptop is that it feels much more "put together" than my NP8130. I'm going to put in some DDR3-1866 and try to construct a RAM drive to see how Haswell handles it.

Do you have two drives? Change power management so the hard drives never power down. If that fixes it, I suggest you have the hard drives power down after a while. This saves power and reduces stress on the hard drives. Just use a setting you can live with. The delay is the time it takes the hard drive to spin up.

I asked one of the respected Sager dealers about this two days ago. They said they were under the impression that Sager hasn't shipped the C2's yet. I guess I will keep waiting until I order. If I use it as a media center or a server, then it would be a big hassle to unplug and plug in a hard drive each time it wakes up.
