Does anyone know what component I should look for to replace the power jack on a p157sm?
I'm 99% sure that I need a new one as the barrel jack from my adapter is fine and it has the typical problem of power flickering and only receiving power when the barrel jack is at a certain angle. I know if I had the correct component I'd be able to solder it on, but I can't find any information on the specific component I would need. I really like this laptop and I'd hate to fry it.

    5.5x2.5mm barrel type.

    So, something like this then?
And sorry if this is a stupid question, but should I be worried about reversed polarity when buying these power jacks?

I would inspect yours properly first. Perhaps resoldering might solve it. Fixed numerous laptops that way

That's the one. Sager/Clevo certainly for a long time have used the same polarity but even so the adaptor usually determines this.

I feel silly I didn't consider a reflow first and then getting the port if that didn't work. Ah well. Thanks for the suggestion!
@Meaker , good to know I snagged the right one. If I end up having to replace the port I'll just have to compare the two ports. I'm paranoid about stuff like this. Thanks again for your help!

Hello everybody. This has probaply been asked before. But this is one thing I can't wrap my head around fully, so please bear with me...

I would like to expand and possibly improve my RAM now.
What would be the best course of action for me?

I plan on going with 16 GB max, due to budget constraints, altho even 8GB (2x4GB) would be on the table since it should improve performance in dual channel.

The thing I dont get is, the one installed right now is 1600mhz, what would happen with 1866 or even 2133mhz would be installed on a stock bios (no prema bios).
Would it run at those speeds?
Does my mobo even support them? What timings should I shoot for?
Is there much difference between Kingston valueram or lets say Corsair Vengeance or Kingston HyperX?

    Thanks in advance.

So to keep it simple, I'm looking at a 16GB (2x8GB) kit from HyperX.

    The following are available;

    1600 - CL9-9-9-33
    1866 - CL11-11-11-34
    2133 - CL11-12-13-31

The memory inside my laptop is:
    Team Group
    1600 - CL11-11-11-28

Not very good in terms of timings I guess???

What kit would be my best bet?

    I was set on replacing.

Tho people claim I can add the factory stick in the third slot. It would still run dual channel, but at the slowest speeds and timings.
But if I invest in the best possible 16GB kit, I dont like the idea of slowing it down...

I dont need over 16GB tho, as I dont play much ram intensive games or apps at the moment, a part from some Premiere video editing, and the occasional eye candy game, such as The Witcher.

1866 will be the best balance as 2133mhz can be tricky sometimes.

So the advertised speeds are the ones it should run at, even without a custom bios then?

    Thanks for that advise...

Any feedback wether or not its worth getting HyperX memory or similar for laptops vs 'value' ramsticks?
Or should I just compare timings and get the tightest I can find?

    Upgrade time!

Bit the bullet and ordered a 16GB 1866 Mhz HyperX kit for my laptop.

hi, does the hotkey program not work on windows 10 ?

i installed it on my P150SM-A, i see it in the tray but when i double click to open it, a control center appears but only in the tray, i can see the thumbnail of the program window but the window does not show on screen.

i'm trying to get the fan profile settings.

i tried installing the control center program from another thread but that didn't work, the buttons didn't do anything and fan control only has max and auto, no custom.

@RanCorX2 Are you already running BIOS & EC versions 1.05.01? There can be minor issues if your firmware is not updated to that.

Yep, 1.05.01 was released for this model. Check with your seller on whether they have it or not. It provides better Win10 support, but I can't say it'll fix whatever is making you lose your hair.

That said, the problem I am having is that the laptop refuses to boot at this point after a "EFI_NOT_FOUND" error and I am hoping to try and get it recovered.

Did you try flashing already? What happened? What does it do now exactly?

At this point the BIOS may need to be manually programmed.

The computer was basically in a state of non-use. It would power on, keyboard and indicators would light, fans would rev briefly, and that was it.

I, after 10 hours, got it up. It required a convoluted recovery process via the FN+B method and determining the proper filename to use for recovery which was not what would been expected at ALL. After successful flashing, the filename for recovery once again worked simply as p150sm.rom

That said, I have experienced somewhat notable instability in Windows 10 with my 980m card. I'd honestly welcome any BIOS or vBIOS upgrades I could get my hand on at this point, as the laptop is also used as for my job and I'd be crestfallen if I lost it.

    Hey folks.

Last year alone, with the Spectre and (i forgot the other malware) vulnerability discovered, the patch from Microsoft really put a dent to the performance.

Now we have zombieland, and their recommendation is to turn off hypethreading altogether. So.... does anyone know how much of an impact it'll have?

I'm still thinking of trying to upgrade to GTX1070m... (and i'm somewhat clueless, just that I know on theory its possible?) but now i'm thinking if its even economic to do that, especially with the potential performance hit when the patch goes live.

Does anyone have any idea / insights?

The vulnerability is one thread snooping on currently executing data in another. It does not really get to memory snooping.

I think at that point it depends on who's after you and your laptop rather than a super general concern.

Projected impact was supposedly up to a 30% decrease in performance, but did anyone actually suffer a noticeable hit?
Maybe 30 - 40 percent depending on the workload, but disabling it isn't totally necessary and doesn't guarantee protection from the exploit.

Thank you for the response. I don't have anyone going after me, (hopefully, LOL. I'm not a villain or anything like that). So I guess that's a good thing.

I see, so the difference isn't something that is too evident. Alright, thank you!

Looks like now I'll be able to look around for a 1070m, or if rumours are to be believed, that a 2060 / 2070m card may appear, which... I think is good news?

My keyboard backlight does not turn on even after getting a replacement keyboard. Has anyone had this problem? I was thinking of replacing the CMOS battery as it may help powering the keyboard and my laptop also seems to have trouble keeping the time (but seems to be able to keep other BIOS settings...). Anyone know where I can order a replacement CMOS? Or another reason why the backlight may be not turning on?

Where have you seen information about 2060/2070 cards for P157SM?

It was from this web cache https://webcache.googleusercontent....cope.com.tw/cht/product_detail.php?serial=321

It was mentioned a few times in this forum as a mxm format. Yes, I know that mxm 3b is incompatible with mxm 3.1, but if MSI 1070 cards are of any indicator, then we know there is a slight possibility. Otherwise the end of the road for us P150SM-A users are the 1060 / 1070 cards which doesn't provide much-loved boost ( I heard 1060 is only 5-15%, and 1070 is 30%), but I can't seem to find the numbers in this thread. I remember somebody gave hard numbers on the performance in this thread about the performance of the 10xx cards.

    Hi, I've got a question.

Has anyone ever peeled off the backspace button of the P150SM-A keyboard before?

    Its like this

I have 2 keyboards. Keyboard A is in storage. Keyboard B, is where i'm using on my P150SM-A now.

Some buttons on keyboard B, especially the D button, needs to be pressed numerous times. I managed to open the key by prying the top of the square then the bottom of the square, before dusting off, and reassembling it, but I suspect its not the membrane.

Keyboard A was damaged because the backspace key fell off, and I remember something broke. I'll probably need to take a picture of it.

But my idea is to pry off the keyboard A's backspace key, put it into keyboard B's backspace key, and then install keyboard B into the P150SM-A.

Will it work? Or do I have to spend USD300 (including shipping) to get the entire keyboard changed?

If they're identical keyboards then the key caps and retainer clips should be identical, you just have to be very delicate with things as they're not exactly meant to be removed.

    Seriously.

Delivery, insurance through delivery, inspection by the reseller, the keyboard, then return shipping with insurance, everything one go. The keyboard alone, if my memory serves me right, not inclusive of installation fee, is approximately USD120 converted, this was like back in 2015 when I accidentally dropped something and broke the backspace key, which made it necessary to be replaced.

I've done it, and I broke it. I don't have the pictures, but the butterfly switch (let's call it the bigger rectangle and smaller rectangle) The bigger rectangle had two portruding horns. The original one (keyboard A) broke both.

In my attempt to remove the one from the keyboard (keyboard B), I broke off the right side. So one side still works, and I clipped in, and stuck it to the keyboard. You're right that its not meant to be removed. But since it sits and doesn't break off unless I wiggle it really hard, I guess its okay. So a clear sellophone tape, (when in doubt, tape it!) and I have best of both worlds, and USD300 saved.

    Thanks though.

PSA: don't attempt trying this. Its just not worth it. I was bloody lucky on my first try.

    Hello.

I bought a Schenker XMG 503 (P157SM) on EBay some days ago for a good price. Looks almost unused.

It has a 4800MQ and a GTX 770m. So now i am searching for informations which upgrades for the GPU are possible besides the 780m?

So i found this owners club and thought i should say hi to the experts. ;)

Yeah read about that. You need some special BIOS and drivers right? So will there be any later driver update?

Last official BIOS i get for my Schenker XMG is the 1.03.05.

Oh. And i am curious. Whats the difference between the P157SM and the P157SM-A?

    EDIT:
I tested it with "Battletech". Got a crash. The Temperature of the 770m reached 95 degree. Maybe i should take a look.

Sounds like a repaste is needed.

1060 requires no BIOS AFAIK and the usual modified inf should do it.

Ok. Will take a look. Costs more than the laptop itself. ;)

Have no high end compound here but arctic cooling silicon compound is doing its job fine with temps below 70 degree.

This generation of machine is a bit more forgiving on compound and the like.

My laptop is having some issues. I have been trying to find out why and to solve it, but in vain.

It works perfectly fine as long as I don't launch any software that uses the dGPU (GTX1060). Whenever I launch games, GPU-Z or the nVidia control panel, the laptop starts beeping and the fans run at max speed (the EC panics). The same happens when I go into the BIOS.

I tried to flash the BIOS, but when I got into the page where I type the commands, it started beeping again. Didn't continue to flash the BIOS as I was afraid the laptop would shut itself half way through the process and hence brick the laptop.

Both the Windows and GPU-Z can detect the dGPU without issue. Just that it beeps once I get into games etc.

Any idea why it is happening? Is it because of the dGPU? Or it's my motherboard having some issues? Thanks.

Did anything happen to the machine before it started happening? Did you try a fresh Intel and nvidia gpu driver install?
