Well there are development costs and initially the process is actually likely to be more expensive per transistor, hopefully it drops fairly quickly though. -
For better or worse, my machine has now moved to phase 5 ('stress testing) at Xoticpc.
1. Considering the 88O tends to run hot, which laptop cooler is recommended as being the most efficient and quietest?
2. Which diagnostic programs should I install/run just to make sure everything is as it should be?
Thanks in advance .... -
BtY, I fully plan on implementing DEADSMILEY'S awesome cooling mod ...

Zalman NC-2000 works really well for me - it's an old model, but still good, looks great, mine's been running 16 hours a day since 2008! (Just remember to clean the dust out of it once in a while!) -

Anything that props the back up will work fine, the pads fans won't really do anything.

Anybody have any thoughts on this? I didn't see any reponses and this keyboard is really driving me nuts! Selecting text using the keyboard is like 'Fn + Shift + End'
It's like playing twister, but with my fingers. Middle Finger: Red. Index Finger: Blue. Fourth Finger: Yellow

Although idle GPU temperatures drop by about 10degC when I tested it last with & without my cooler - I didn't bother to test load temperature differences, but the idle temperature difference shows that the pad is convecting heat away from the laptop in some manner at least. -

Thats likely blowing through the fan hole and the heatsink fins when the fan is slow/off.
-
Looking through the manual online, the closest thing I could find would be Hot Key Configuration, on page 7-63, Sound Blaster Audio ... hope this helps .....
-
Manual Online? I just went to their web site and couldn't find manuals online.

Yes, I think that's part of the mechanism, I also think it cools the entire underside of the laptop too, as the keyboard and palmrest area is cooler to the touch when using the pad. -
I found a repository of service manuals in PDF form for these laptops although I can't find the site I used now ... If you have no luck with google, pm me your email and I'll send you the file ...

Anyone else notice the P377SM-A was not one of the machines that Prema has an updated BIOS and EC for?
If Clevo doesn't refresh the model, our only hope is to use Prema's modded BIOS to get new cards which means no official support or warranty from Sager. They refreshed the P370SM-A and the P375SM but not the P377SM-A so far. :|
EDIT: Seems odd that they wouldn't refresh it though considering that the P377SM-A is the only one Sager is currently using. I guess I'll just have to be patient.
EDIT2: Prema to the rescue! There will be official 9377 from Sager! -

Let's not jump to conclusions early, once we have all the information then it's time to make conclusions on what the lineup looks like
-
I already know for a fact the 9377 is getting refreshed by Sager, its just a matter of playing the waiting game for the NDA to end and the cards to become available.

I think you are mixing the words "refreshed" and "updated". This system is going to receive a BIOS update to use the new nvidia cards, which is considered an update.
A refresh would be newer hardware.
-
Video cards count as newer hardware in my book lol

Lol, yeah...actually for you it will be a refresh, as it ain't working right atm.

Which 'new' cards are you reffering to?
The 880's ?
What's not working right at the moment ? -
SLI 880M cards don't work properly. They suffer from core throttling sometimes well under the stock core. Read up about it in the Gaming forum under the Pidge from nVidia thread... Its quite bad.
Single GPU systems aren't as affected.

Have people tried using ht power bridge and using two power bricks?

I have two bricks and it doesn't make a difference.

970M and 980M launched today. And it is already available on 9377-S (with 980m sli), 8278-S (with 980m) on xoticpc. Now I am kinda regretting because I got my laptop on sept and after just one month they already launched 980m's. I hope I will be able to play games on high settings for atleast 2-3 years with my single 880m.

All Sager resellers should offer a 30day return period
If you decide to keep it a single 880M should still treat you well a few years down the road. -
Can the 9377 run triple monitors?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It can run the internal display plus 2 external displays at the same time.
-
So it is not possible to run 3 external displays and not the internal display?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It has one HDMI port, one thunderbolt 1 port and the internal display which it can power all simultaneously.

Anybody else having difficulty changing their screen brightness? I am using the keyboard shortcut "Fn + F8 or F9" and the screen brightness does not adjust. I have attempted to adjust the screen brightness using the charm bar > Settings area too and nothing. I am using the latest Windows 8.1 (completely up to date) and the latest drivers for the 880 too. Thoughts?
-
Well, I went to the Windows properties page of the NVidia card and selected "Rollback Driver". It prompted me to ask me if I was sure and when I clicked "Yes" the screen brightness jumped to where it should be and the keyboard shortcuts worked for controlling the brightness.
-
So this has now degraded quite badly.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I'm probably going to find a pumped out mess here in a few...
Irritation level: 10
That heatsink looks pretty bad too...
This is what it looked like when I cracked it off to apply it in July.
My video card heatsinks look fine, its just the CPU...
Ambient temp is about 4F higher than the last time but here's the new result. Auto fans.
6C-8C drop.
Max fans?
3.9GHz is still out of reach for all practical purposes, hitting 90C. -

Ethrem, I think laptop heatsinks, especially for CPUs can be very hit or miss, even results between different repastings of the same heatsink using the same compound - this is what I've found when pasting up my CPU multiple (about 3) times. At each repaste I noticed temperatures drop with even temperatures between all cores, then gradually over a period of a couple of months temperatures would rise and the same cores on one side of the chip would increase in temperature resulting in a 10 degC difference between cores. However, last time I repasted my CPU (always using the spread method & Arctic Silver 5) I decided to spread an impossibly thin layer onto the CPU. I'd always spread on a paper thin or less layer, but this time I decided to really go as thin as possible. And you know what, this time CPU temperatures have been the lowest, most even between the cores (only 2 degC difference), for 3 months now. Over that 3 month period the temperatures have been as good as day 1. Part of me wonders is whether it's related to travelling with the laptop, I've not moved the laptop from my house over that period of time, and I'm wondering if vibrations can break the seal between CPU/paste/heatsink, or if instead it's related to the ultra ultra thin layer of paste I applied. (Just thought I'd share my experiences with you to see if you could pick out anything that might be relevant to you).
Ethrem likes this. -
I noticed it takes a stupid small amount of paste for the CPU. Less than my GPUs actually. The spring mechanism for the CPU actually appears to work quite well if you have a thicker paste, its just not enough pressure for CLU unfortunately.
I don't mind repasting every few months with this machine if it means not scratching my CPU die any further using ICD.
I got the CPU up to 4.4GHz as well. Just enough for a wPrime 32M to pass, I can't get 4GHz under 92C at 1024M so it was just a quick run. Still was impressive to see though.
I wish I had enough pressure for CLU, the machine would be amazing with 4.3GHz daily and dual 970 or 980M, whichever I end up getting.

How is the cooling system for this unit? I'm getting this unit with dual and 4810mq cpu
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's not bad, the CPU should be able to do 3.9ghz during heavy gaming and the GPUs can be pushed far. Under stock there are no issues, i'd advise a repaste and possible repad if you intend to push it.
-
3.9GHz is a stretch. You can get 3.9GHz but if you push the cores it will get way too hot and throttle.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
I intend to do stock clocks on gaming so I should be fine for 3 to 4 hours of gaming Crysis 3, right?
-
Without a doubt.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
4GHz is possible if you get lucky with the CPU heatsink AND you use Liquid Ultra.
Also might be worth experimenting with a P370EM triple pipe CPU heatsink on the 980M if it really runs that much cooler than 780M. You'll end up with 780M like temps on the slave 980M but your CPU will be 10C cooler. -
You have to get really lucky with that heatsink... Mine is useless.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
The cooling system in this machine is so inefficient for the CPU that the air coming out from the fan on max isn't even that hot...
I am @ 4GHz right with CLU and can not do 4GHz 1024M test because it will hit 95C about 66% through on wPrime and the air coming out is pretty much barely over room temp :|
Its not the CLU that's the problem, its the GPU fan!
Any idea on how to increase contact between the heatsink and the CPU fan to carry more heat to it? Aluminum foil maybe? I think Clevo made a contact blunder without realizing it.
On the plus side, my CPU fan is now off all the time for basic computer use lol.
There's nothing wrong with the heatsink, its the fan not connecting with the heatpipes to get rid of the heat. When I stick my hands behind the GPU fans, they're blowing warm air from the second they turn on. -
@ Ethrem are you getting the GTX980M?
-
Yes but Xotic has to wait for Sager to even tell me what kind of a deal they are willing to do. I can't game for long on these 880M cards before they crash unless I turn off SLI which is unacceptable.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
Yeah that doesn't sound right at all. If I do a 1024M run the air that blows out feels plenty hot (at least 40+ C). Sounds more like it could be the heatpipes than the fan tbh, but first I'd probably try sticking some foil tape between the fan and the fins and see if it helps any.
-
I wonder if I could get them to replace the heatsink? Seriously man, at stock it idles at 54C
The heat coming from my 88C GPU is much hotter than the heat from my 92C CPU
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Tapatalk -
Yeah I'd RMA that heatsink.
