anyone know if its safe to use the AMIBIOS Update Utility for p650 re3?
-
-
Do you by any chance know if the option should be visible when using only "discrete"?
I changed in BIOS and got "most" options in Nvidia control panel however G-Sync is not there.
I can choose adaptive V-Sync though which I assume is almost the same/same. Never got around to learn the names as this is the first machine I actually use that have it.
I tried reinstalling the driver as well just to see if that was a problem but the actual "G-Sync" menu doesn't show up. -
Is this where you're looking? http://imgur.com/a/tTH5B
-
Yes.
Here is the screen from mine: https://www.dropbox.com/s/g1wfsmy5jw9frdp/2016-03-13.png?dl=0
I have checked and double-checked that mine is the P651RG-G model and has the sticker for G-Sync as well.
I will gladly take any tips you have that might fix it. -
I know you changed your BIOS settings to discrete mode but can you also try it using the ControlCenter?
-
Run nvidia inspector and grab a screenshot.
-
by any chance do you know how to update the BIOS on the P650RE3?

It already shows there I noticed. Here is the screen, where I haven't made any changes yet: https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqa5no9lj3jji55/Screenshot 2016-03-13 10.08.48.png?dl=0

Just updated to latest nvidia driver for gtx 980m and the G-sync option has disappeared too. The previous driver was version 359.00 and that had the g-sync options..I've lost it all since updating to version 364.51

hi peoples, can you tell me,how long time from you press a power botton till logo appearance ? my notebook keyboard light start immediately , but logo -after about 3-4 sec .

That might explain my problem. Tried 3 drivers, all above 359. Will test that one and see if it solves my issue.

Was anyone able to install Windows 7/10 on a Samsung 950 Pro? My install setup doesn't detect the drive even after I load the Samsung NVMe driver... And installing Windows on another drive and migrating it to the 950 Pro is not an option for me. Any ideas?
-
Just to update on my own question. It solved my problem.
After 359 it seems G-Sync disappears from NV Control Panel completely. I'm now running the driver from Clevo's webpage and it works perfect.
Thanks for anyone that helped and suggested how to fix as it's always appreciated. -

It's definitely in discrete mode. As Taskman said, I think any nvidia driver above 359.00 breaks g-sync..AngryPeanut said: ↑Double check your bios graphics settings

I doubt it. I assume you can always roll back though.sparky_boi said: ↑It's definitely in discrete mode. As Taskman said, I think any nvidia driver above 359.00 breaks g-sync..

I'm using 362.0 and I still have g-sync working. You may want to update to that version if you want. Tho you'd lose g-sync for windowed fullscreen..sparky_boi said: ↑It's definitely in discrete mode. As Taskman said, I think any nvidia driver above 359.00 breaks g-sync..

Nvidia has had problems with their two latest driver updates. The 364.47 was riddled with flaws, and was very quickly withdrawn and replaced by the 364.51, which had less problems, but still some issues. The latest stable driver is the 362. That has all G-sync options in place.sparky_boi said: ↑Just updated to latest nvidia driver for gtx 980m and the G-sync option has disappeared too. Is this something you are experiencing yourself, and/or is it a widely reported problem with 362? I have searched, but can't find anything where people are missing g-sync in windowed mode with 362. Would you care to elaborate, or link to further sources? The only game where I'm playing in windowed mode is Football Manager 2016, and I can't see any tearing there ...antonigaming said: ↑The option is there but it's not workingClick to expand...

You actually have the option in the Nvidia control panel to tell you when it's turned on. Is a good way to test.

Yes, but I trust my eyes better than I trust an on-screen notification. Not seeing the notification could just mean that the notification is faulty, while g-sync still works. And as I'm seeing no tearing in the only game I play windowed ...AngryPeanut said: ↑You actually have the option in the Nvidia control panel to tell you when it's turned on. Is a good way to test.

Edit: I usually have that G-sync notification turned off, I think it sits there too long, often it won't go away at all. But i just turned it on, and checked with a couple of games, starting them in windowed mode. Result: Both Skyrim and Football Manager 2016 showed "G-sync on".
To repeat: This is with the 362 driver update, after rolling back from the useless 364.47, clean install with the use of the DDU.Last edited: Mar 15, 2016 -
FPS stays at 59~60 fps at full screen (monitor's refresh rate) whilst playing at windowed mode would make FPS go up to 260++ReDuNZL said: ↑Yes, but I trust my eyes better than I trust an on-screen notification. I'm sorry? I fail to see what that has to do with whether G-sync works in windowed mode with the 362 driver or not? Do you mean that if I see more than 60 fps in windowed mode, that that would indicate that G-sync is turned off? If so, I understand you better - but does G-sync really work in that way?antonigaming said: ↑FPS stays at 59~60 fps at full screen (monitor's refresh rate) whilst playing at windowed mode would make FPS go up to 260++Click to expand...
But I have no idea what my fps is, and I don't monitor fps in any way in any games - I don't particularly care. If it looks stutter free, and tearing free, and lag free, it's fine. What matters to me is that G-sync prevents tearing in a better way than V-sync does (did). And I see tearing in games with G-sync turned off; I don't with G-sync on, whether in full screen or windowed mode. That indicates to me that G-sync works in both modes. Am I wrong?Last edited: Mar 15, 2016 -
In my understanding, if G-sync is ON, your FPS shouldn't go higher than your monitor's refresh rate. Afaik, G-sync would cap your FPS just like what V-sync does, but it would also adjust the display's refresh rate depending on the current FPS (of the game).ReDuNZL said: ↑I'm sorry? From Nvidia, "G-SYNC technology synchronizes the display’s refresh to the GPU’s render rate". -
That sounds good to me. But my point is: I don't see any tearing in the game when I run it windowed and with G-sync enabled. When I turn G-sync off (and of course also any V-sync options), I do - immediately, and very visibly. That, coupled with the fact that I indeed have the notification telling me that G-sync is on even when I play windowed, leads me to believe that it's not as simple as just "G-sync don't work in windowed mode with the 362 driver" - which is the point we're discussing here.
Edit: I just turned on Steam's overlay, showing me the fps's in-game. Result with G-sync turned on, full screen mode: 59-60 fps. result with G-sync turned on, windowed mode: 59-60 fps.Last edited: Mar 16, 2016 -
I've run into the same issue on my Sager NP8658-S (Clevo P650-RG) where anything above 362.00 removes Gsync from the machine. I also have it set to discreet.
As of today I've also run into an issue where The Division only goes to a black screen and a mouse pointer. edit: This seems to work: -

Yeah, new games often have software issues.
-
I'm using the 361.91 driver version and G-Sync works great, Just cause 3 stays at 60FPS. Zero tearing, it's amazing how fluid the motion is. I originally thought G-Sync was just going to be some gimmick but it's 100% legit!

Yeah, it is a nice option to have. Maybe not the most essential spec to look for, but it can be a good help in making games look better.94sportsedan said: ↑I originally thought G-Sync was just going to be some gimmick but it's 100% legit!Click to expand... -

Hey everyone! I officially ordered my NP8657 yesterday and now get to spend the next month or so impatiently waiting for it to show up! I have a question regarding optimal storage setups; I'm getting the 250GB Samsung EVO 850 M.2 SSD as my boot drive with the 1TB 7200rpm SATA II secondary drive. I have a 1-year-old Samsung 850 EVO 2.5" SSD in the machine I'm currently using and am debating adding it to the new machine. I'd then put all of my save files onto the 2.5" SSD and use the HDD solely as a backup drive if I did this; are the write speeds to the 2.5" HDD going to be better than the write speeds to the SATA II HDD? If they aren't, I won't bother moving it and I'll just leave it in the old machine.
Thanks; looking forward to being a member of this club! -
Huge difference between HDDs and any SSDs. Always with the upgrade. As for space considerations, that's up to you too decide what's more important as far space vs speed.

My save files would only be my work files, emails, and then any downloads I do in my browser. Currently all of my save files, including my work files saved in triplicate, is about 110GB. I could then use the HDD solely as a backup drive (similar to how I use my second HDD now) which gives me some peace of mind.AngryPeanut said: ↑Huge difference between HDDs and any SSDs. An SSD boot drive with HDD as long term storage is a good configuration to have.

I use the SSD that came with the machine at the moment and a 1TB HDD as storage.
I will later change to 1x Samsung instead of the Crucial one for SSD and use 2x 2TB 7mm HDD for storage. -

Are you going to RAID the two hard drives together?

I don't think there are regular 7mm HDDs. Only 9.5mm.

I did some research on that yesterday. Western Digital started offering a 1TB 7mm thick, 2.5" notebook HDDs in June of 2013, and just last month Seagate started shipping 2TB drives with 7mm thickness.AngryPeanut said: ↑I don't think there are regular 7mm HDDs. Only 9.5mm.Click to expand...

Could a NP8657 or NP8657-S owner verify that VT-x and VT-d are enabled on their machine? I'm planning to get one of these laptops and need this feature enabled. Thanks!

I think that's only available on the cm236 chipset. Not the hm170 that's on these laptops. I might be wrong though.

Did you have a model number on that 7mm 2TB drive? I'd only seen up to 500gb in a 7mm thick SSD and would be curious to see it. My googling skills are not on point today.bisklimpkit said: ↑I did some research on that yesterday.
