I'm not familiar with speedshift, what does that do? Sorry I'm a noob. Not at computers as a whole but to these programs. Never used any of them before now.

its a feature fom Intel CPUs since Skylake, with KabyLake its a new optimized version. You can read a littlle about it over here and here.

In short: the cpu is able ramp from the idle low clocks up to its max Turbo clock with less latency. Within 15ms with a Kaby Lake and within 30ms with a Skylake CPU instead of the normal ~100ms. That means that get finished faster.

Well that might be misleading, that´s not the point of SpeedShift in ThrottleStop.

Speed Shift takes over control of the CPU multiplier so if Speed Shift is enabled, the ThrottleStop Set Multiplier and Power Saver features will no longer work. As soon as Speed Shift is enabled, it is automatically locked in the enabled position so you will need to reboot.

After you boot up in Windows 10, ThrottleStop might show that Speed Shift Technology is already checked and enabled. ThrottleStop adds access to the Minimum and Maximum multipliers that are available when Speed Shift is enabled so this might help users gain some control over their laptops. This is an experimental feature in ThrottleStop that works great in Windows 7. Setting the Min and Max to the same value as your highest multiplier should disable Speed Shift and allow your CPU to run at full speed regardless of load, similar to the Windows High Performance power profile. Setting the Minimum multiplier to something like 8 would be the equivalent of the Windows Balanced profile. I have not yet tested this in Windows 10 so any feedback about Speed Shift would be appreciated.

Yes of course you are right, maybe i should have explained from the scratch, but i was in a hurry and on my mobile.

The result of quicker multiplicator changes has its source in what you have written: the controlling moved from OS directly to the CPU. So it can switch a lot faster through the multiplicators and fit the multi as Response to the workload needs if one does not set the same fixed min and max values.

A EPP value of 80 is similar to the windows balaced power profile.

    0 means Maximum Performance

Actually that might be misleading again :p
TS SpeedShift uses the multiplier value (max and min), so the maximum performance is the same as your max multiplier value.
Let´s say you want a 46T multiplier, you set the min and max speedshift to 46T to "lock" the CPU @ 46T.
So in theory the highest the value the highest the performance.

Yes the latest version of CCC 5.0001.1.05 has fixed two of the issues with the previous version of this laptop.

Before, Intel extreme tuning utility (Intel XTU) was included in the installation of older versions of CCC which messed up the fan profiles, requiring a nvram reset. Temperatures spiked to as high as 80 and 90 for CPU and GPU.

I was playing Witcher 3 on 4k with FPS capped to 30 fps showed CPU 50C with spikes to 60+C max. 1060 was around ~78C. Similar temps for 1080p at 60 fps cap.

I think the latest version of CCC is 5.0001.1.09. At least thats whats showing on mine and I get the fans ramping up sometimes for no appearent reason. Don't know if this is the same issue being discussed or not though.

Yes that was one of the issues, the other one was fans not ramping up during game play. Try using the obsidian tool and switch to CCC 5.0001.1.05 to see if that fixes it. I believe it was mentioned that the Obsidian tool gives you the correct software with right fan tables. You might also have to do a nvram reset before downgrading the software will fix it. Make sure you uninstall Intel XTU if it is installed. My fan also sometimes ramps up for but then slows down eventually but it seems normal. Seems like windows was doing something in the background and doesn't stay that way for long.

Sorry about my last post, i was ONLY talking about the Speed Shift Min and Max values in the TPL section, and how you should "use them".
In the main page you can toggle a Speed Shift EPP, and this value does work like you said, so your text does make sense, in this box the lowest the best, 0 is max performance.

Even though my Bios shows ms hybrid, once I click save&reset and boot to windows, clevo control utility shows discrete under gaming tab. Any thoughts how to find out what is actually enabled?

With no external displays look at the nvidia control panel and see if you have display options or look in device manager.

off topic a bit but when I play games unplugged like COD or what not the game is laggy. Its perfect as long as I'm plugged in. The battery is fully charged and I have high performance in the power settings. As I doing something wrong?

No inbuilt battery is capable of fully powering a highend mobile gaming machine. You can play around with the nvidia battery settings to tune it a little but that's intended behaviour.

    Hi Everyone,

I am deciding between Clevo 650HS-G and MSI GT62VR and kinda leaning towards the Clevo.
Between Xotic and Hidevolution I am also kinda leaning towards Hidevolution because of Prema BIOS and their global warranty. Could someone please help me out with a few queries:
    • Hide's website is a bit confusing. If I buy now will I get a Prema BIOS. And if not, then can I install it later without nulling warranty?
    • Which paste is better IC Diamond or Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra?
    • Also is Prema really useful if I don't want to overclock my laptop. I just plan to undervolt it for better cooling

Yeah. It's not lit. But clevo control suite refuses to accept it. If I change it on the suite it asks for a restart but still no change. I guess it's a bug?

Yes its a bug. Once your on discrete you cannot get it to switch back to Hybrid. You have to go into the BIOS to do it. Under nvidia control panel and Desktop check "Display GPU activity in Notification Area" and you will see an icon that shows the number of apps running on nvidia GPU. This lets you know that you are on discrete graphics. The icon turns green when it is active and grey when it is not. The intel graphics display notification area icon will show up if you are on hybrid graphics and using the iGPU. Both icons show up with nvidia green if you are on hybrid mode with discrete taking the main load. Grey nvidia icon with blue intel icon showing up means you are running purely on the iGPU. I just dont use the CCC at all and just change it from the BIOS.

I just got mine a few days ago and I was loving it. However, I'm now experiencing an issue with the display (I got the 4k one). I left my machine on for a few hours with a sleep setting of 30 min. When I got back and woke it back up, the display was washed out and it's experiencing image retention. Reboots don't help, I've tried reinstalling the graphics drivers, and I don't see any issues when connecting to an external monitor via HDMI. I'm really hoping this isn't a hardware issue... can anyone help?

    Edit: Example here: https://iwantoranges.tumblr.com/post/157166364731/washed-out-screen

Edit 2: I sort of managed to get the colors almost normal by cranking up the contrast to 100% in the Nvidia Control Panel, but image retention remains an issue. The image only has to appear for a second for it to stay as a ghost.

I can confirm the new Clevo Control Center software via Obsidian does work in switching discrete to MShybrid and back. They now removed the CPU overclocking icon too, which is nice.

When you unzip the CCC software there's a oem.ini text file. Looking in there, i tried playing around with switching a lot of the options off (to 0) to try and disable the GPU overclocking icon but couldn't figure it out. Really, all we need is the keyboard color software and the ability to switch between dGPU/iGPU.

Check to see if your display is "Fake 4k" and if that is the cause of some of the issues? Clevo models w/ the G-Sync Samsung 15.6" 4K(3840x2160) are fake 4k and use a nasty pentile matrix. Clevo models w/ the Sharp IGZO 15.6" 4K(3840x2160) seem to use real 4k panels with RGB subpixels.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5jiwcg/psa_the_4k_uhd_3840x2160_displays_in_the_inspiron/

Did you try installing the nvidia drivers that came with the Clevo driver disc? They are actually modified versions of the offical nvidia drivers. One such modification is limiting the FPS so that it doesn't go above the panel capabilities so that G-sync can work. So there might be other modifications too, not sure.

I know about the Pentile (which this one happens to be) vs "True" 4k issue, but I don't think that's the issue. The thing is, it looked perfectly fine for the first few days, and I only started experiencing those issues a couple days ago after my machine woke from sleep. To my knowledge, there weren't any updates in the couple hours I wasn't directly using it. I've also noticed flickering when running games, something which I'm not seeing on the TV I have hooked up simultaneously via HDMI.

Hello, I received my P650HS-G and am very happy with it. I was getting great frame rates with G-Sync locked at 60FPS on all high settings when I first started using the laptop. I then used Obsidian tool to update all the drivers including the NVIDIA driver. I went from the Sager 21.21.13.7587 to the latest NVIDIA 21.21.13.7849. My frame rates more than halved with plenty of stuttering and tearing. I reinstalled the Sager driver directly from their website and everything is back to normal. Does Sager optimize their drivers for these laptops and G-Sync?

If you have different results then it´s probably a NVIDIA thing, it´s not uncommon for NVIDIA to mess up with drivers.
What i always do before adding a driver to my tool is test it with a P7 series and a P6 series.
If the system is stable and i get the same or better frames in my usual benchmarks then i update the driver version.
In which games did you notice a frame drop?

Hey John, firstly great tool and thanks for providing it to the community. I experienced the frame drop in XPlane 11 and as soon as I reinstalled the original drivers everything was back to normal. Well at least I know where the issue is, nothing worse than not knowing whats causing performance problems. Keep up the great work and thanks again!

And for those interested I am getting good temps on this laptop. After one hour gaming max CPU 58c, max GPU 50c using CLLU paste. Thanks for a great build @GenTechPC

No I'm closer to the Equator than Antarctica ;-)

I'm not a hardcore gamer but the simulators I run can be pretty CPU intensive and with an ambient room temperature of 20C, I'm getting Max CPU temps of 59C after an hour of use.

tlprtr19 posted on page 1 of this thread pretty good temperature results as well, so it cant be that hard to believe.

More than my laptop cooler I notice significant temp drops on my CPU on high load when playing in an air-conditioned room or just cooling it off with frigid air from the outside :)

GPU is cool regardless so no worries!

I have a question for you guys. I have the 120hz monitor w/gsync and was looking in device manager and noticed that the monitor is using a generic driver. Is there a specific driver for the screen on these laptops or just a generic?

Hey Matt, I just looked on mine and its the same. It's listed as a "Generic PnP Monitor". I'm pretty sure this is correct and there is not a specific driver for the display. Everything is controlled through the Nvidia driver.

Built in panels don't come with drivers usually, no. It should be listed as that, you can get hardware IDs from the details though.

After 3 MSI laptops, I finally bought a Sager 8157. same spec as the one HTWingnut reviewed. Only difference is that I am adding my own Hyper X 32GB ram, and my own SSD. No factory options were chosen. I am thinking about getting the 960 Pro 1TB. I have a question regarding the 4 lane max issue. I read on this thread that if you get the pro, that other M.2 slots will not be able to have another 960 Pro (4 lanes). This makes sense. However, if you go to say XOTIC PC or Gentech, they allow you to choose the the 960 Pro, and you can also add another SSD in slot 2.

Here is the quetion: If 960 Pro uses 4 lanes, and if you add another m.2 ssd in slot 2, then what impact does that have on 960 Pro? Will it slow it down?

Second question: What other model is the AC adapter compatible with? I am trying to buy couple more AC adapters (for office, and other places). Can someone please point me to the right direction for a reasonably priced aftermarket AC adaptor w/ correct plug?

    Thank you.

you can put in one M.2 PCIe x4 card or if you do not want to do this you can put in one or two M.2 SATA based instead....

Appreciate the response, but that's not what I am asking. I am trying to find out if the lanes on this motherboard has total of 6 or 4. If the 960 pro takes up 4 lanes, and if I add another M.2 SATA SSD, then what impact does that have on 960 Pro. Does it stay at 4 lane speed, or will will it slow down to half the speed because the other m2 sata is taking up 2 of the lanes.

Or.. does the 960 Pro stay the same speed at 4 lanes and the other slot gets 2?

It will simply Not Work. The Laptop cannot handle m.2 pcie and m.2 SATA at the same time.
You have to decide: one m.2 pcie and no second m.2 SATA SSD, or no m.2 pcie but up to two m.2 SATA based SSDs.

No matter what laptop you get at the moment you are limited to 4x PCI-E lane speed as the link between the CPU and chipset can't handle any more than that anyway.

Reinstalled clevo control software from Sager website. When I turn on laptop the Sager logo now stays for a considerably long time like maybe 10s. Only then the OS boots. Also the laptop no longer automatically switches fan speeds during gaming. Have to click FN+1 for high fan speed manually. Help appreciated.
