Wow, after following your link I know I'd never even consider buying anything from Obsidian.
They make you install software that opens your computer to flashing firmware over the internet! Unbelievable security risk.

@seeker_moc recommended getting a colorimeter. I'll look into that.
And thanks for the SSDs models. I'll be on a look out for these! I'd be sure to grab them if the prices drop significantly!
And I guess I'll save some money on the RAM then!

What the hell are you talking about?
That post was not even about us, he was talking about another reseller. What is your problem with us?
We make you do what?
Our BIOS are the CLEVO released available in the Reseller Channel. We download it and do our changes, it´s perfectly safe!
Again, i have no idea what you are trying to imply...
We make no one install our software.
Only our clients are able to update the BIOS.
BIOS files are distributed by CLEVO.
Each reseller has access to CLEVO e-channel to download those.
Some resellers like us do some BIOS changes, some don´t, some give the BIOS versions specific release names others dont.
Our software does not open your computer to flash something from the WEB.
Our software downloads the latest BIOS version available from our SERVER and then reboots your laptop and flashes it using typical .bat files. Which is WAY BETTER then what everyone had for the last 10 years in the CLEVO scene, bootable USB pens and MSDOS methods with BIOS files obtained from random places... Yeah we changed the game, our clients do Drivers and BIOS updates with one click and get notified to do it every time there´s one update.
Our BIOS versions are correct, some model might not be updated with the latest CLEVO released version, specially because we like to test and optimize them before release.
Your post seems like a "forced" attempt to give us bad reputation. WAY OUT of context. And makes ZERO sense.
Can you please explain what you wrote?
"After following your link" ???? The links shown are from another reseller, what does that have to do with us?
"They make you install software" ???? What??? We make software to make our clients life easy and our software is being given FOR FREE to the all community! It is used world-wide by non-clients because WE ALLOW IT.
I´m speechless....
PS: You do know the initial Quoted post is about a BIOS update from HID right????
And by the way the latest BIOS for P6xHS is in fact:
System BIOS 1.05.04
System EC 1.05.05
Just like our app will report.
I´m still speechless how someone quotes a random post that has NOTHING to do with us... just someone talking about a HID bios update and converts that into trashing out brand...Last edited: Apr 2, 2017JoshT, TomJGX, D2 Ultima and 1 other person like this. -
Only prema partner reseller who didn't ship the notebook with the prema bios at start will ask for your permission so they can remote in to your system and flash a prema bios.D2 Ultima likes this.

resellers ask for remote access everyday, sometimes to test stuff other times to update BIOS or drivers.
PREMA asks for remote access for people who ask for his BIOS, he is the one flashing the unit.
That as nothing to do with what seeker_moc said and it has nothing to do with us .... -

Oh wait... i think i understand it....
So the initial post talks about "as the one reported in Obsidion-Tools." so i think that user seeker_moc thought the full post was about us.
He seems to fail to realize that the post author was just talking about our APP as a mean to say that the BIOS version he flashed matches the VERSION that our app reports as the "latest".
Still, even if he had realized the post author was talking about HID that was a harsh comment, even if he said the same about HID it was still jumping into conclusions.
Remember that we (resellers) can name and number BIOS releases as we want, we dont need to name them like CLEVO, so HID can just call their version whatever they want.
So i guess he just jumped into a flame mode and this:
"They make you install software that opens your computer to flashing firmware over the internet! Unbelievable security risk."
Just shows he does not understand how our app works. -
My post has nothing to do with Obsidian other than they have change logs of the latest BIOS. I didn't get anything related to the bios from Obsidian. They don't even give the bios for non-Customers.
Also I am pretty sure they have a secure channel for any remote flashing.
I don't think you have to worry about him. He lives in the US and you are EU based.
Btw does version 1.05.04 have any intel speedshift option? I don't have any option for that in the one I received from HID. Could it be that you guys give a modded version with the option?Galm likes this. -

Yeah, it was some weird posts, one of those moments when you stop looking at your screen and start shaking in rage... i felt like a anime character.
We have enabled speedshift in all our BIOS releases. The P6 series does not have many changes in the menus to be honest (talking about our modded version), yet i was under the impression speedshift was already activated even before we made any change.
How are you checking for Speedshift? Have you tried Throttlestop for instance?Matthew Gary likes this. -
On HWiNFO, I have SST red.
I can enable speedshift with ThrottleStop. But, I prefer to have it in the BIOS as it gets enabled on my Ubuntu too. Also you get speedshift for the startup tasks before ThrottleStop launches. -

So am I ultimately stuck with waiting for Eluktronics to get their BIOS from Clevo? If someone can PM me the file for download I can just do it myself lol. This is not a big deal
Perhaps this is just normal? I have looked and looked and looked for the newest BIOS. It's out, but I can't seem to just go and get it
Eluktronics is nice as they are seem a little behind on what's going on. They have ZERO BIOS beyond 1.05.01 and I have spoke with 3 different people there on three different occasions. -
Sorry, I wasn't trying to start a flame war. I will stick by to what I said though. Unless I'm missing something, your website says that if a customer wants a BIOS update, you require them to open remote access to their computer for you to do the update. If I bought a laptop, and the vendor told me the only way I could update my BIOS is to let them remote into my laptop, I'd also be shaking in rage like an anime character. I've never heard of any other vendor requiring that of a customer just to get an update. Say what you want, but enabling remote access to a computer is a major security and privacy risk.
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
You what?
Have you failed to realize the post was not about us?
Do you even read the full posts?
We Have A app that notifies you when there is a BIOS update. The app guides you through the process and downloads and flashes it for you no remote connections are needed.
Remote connections are done when the client still isn't able to update and asks us for help.
But all of that was already explained... -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
If you don't trust your notebook vendor then it's already too late when you ordered from them
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Yeah better just not buy..
Still it makes no sense. The remote connection info is there just to help clients who do not know how to do it or don´t know how to use our app.
Basically if the app is not working for you, we will do it remotely, although the app is very simple, just one click and flash it.
Also that text serves the purpose of letting non-clients know that our BIOS files are not available for non-clients!
Another thing that makes little to no sense is why you wouldn't trust a vendor to remote connect to your laptop but trust him enough to use a laptop built by them in the first place?
You would trust a brand to build you a system with their hardware, their BIOS and their Firmwares but then, you would not trust them for updating something using remote connections? If a brand is not trust worthy and wants to do something bad they will do it in the BIOS before shipping it...
The problem for seeker_moc is not the BIOS itself but the method to update it. When it should be the other way around.
A BIOS file that is publicly made available is less secure then a bios file kept private. Anyone can download and search for hacks.
A BIOS with a public URL for download is more easily a target for hacking. If someone hacks the server and replaces the BIOS with a hacked version.
A brand with bad intentions would create backdoors in the BIOS itself and not during the flash process.
Leaving a bunch of SCRIPTS/Bootable USB files and instructions for the client to do it himself will result in way more RMAs because it´s not a intuitive process. Clients should not have to deal with such a complex flash process.
The only security breach i can think of is if someone intercepts your teamviewer session, tells you they are someone from our staff and hacks you, but the way we process the connections i find that very hard to happen, and still a lesser problem then the ones previously stated.
I can´t find a single reason for his statements.
A brand that solves the client problems with remote connections is preventing the client from sending the system to RMA, it reduced costs and time for both the client and the store.AndiiiHD and Matthew Gary like this. -
I'm fully aware the original post had nothing to do with you, but I was commenting on what I read on your site when I followed the link.
Your explanation makes sense, so I'm sorry about the misunderstanding. But again, my misunderstanding came from what was written on your website. What I quoted was taken directly, and that is "Contact us and we will flash your unit remotely." If I was a potential customer and saw that then it would have scared me away. This is less about not trusting your vendor than it is a comment on poor security practices. Also, despite your indignation, somebody on your end must have acknowledged that I had a point, as the wording on your website was changed since I made my original comment. -
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Right...
I changed the text when I realised that there are people who need further information like you did. I did not knew, before your chain of comments, that there was a need for such a detailed description, now I know.
That does not change the fact that your assumptions and security analysis are incorrect. And That, above all, does not changes the fact that your comment was distasteful, poor spirited and way over the top. You judged the work of a group of hard working people based on superficial analysis and bad assumptions.
Well let's end it here. I will try to include more detailed information about all our procedures in the future, even if they are intended to be used by clients only. -
1. Guys any news about P650HS-G bios?
I saw a new bios for a different but related model a few pages back, and it shows voltage control built right in the bios.
This would certainly be a nice feature so as to eliminate our reliance on XTU and/or throttlestop.
Also better fancurves or user adjustable, will be nice too.
2. Also, when can I have the capability to have my own signature when posting, I would like to indicate the laptops I currently have now, heck even my desktop.
3. Another thing, anybody noticed the new control center released by clevo for P650HS-G ?
Am downloading it now to give it a try, version: Control Center AP 5.0001.1.21
Or should I wait for the one released via obsidian tool?Last edited: Apr 4, 2017 -
I too am anxiously waiting for this to be "available" to the market for the same reasons.
My newest CC fixed the MSHybrid/Discrete GPU bug. No matter what setting I used the box always ticked for the MSHybrid. -
This is definitely a newbie question, but seems like the right place to ask. I'm in need of a new laptop and have been following this thread closely as I'm interested in the P650HS-G based on a recommendation from Galm. Looking at another post in the 'What notebook should I buy' forum, I saw someone mention that Clevos are good, but take some effort to configure and 'get right'. I've also seen lots of talk here of Throttlestop and fan profiles and GPU MSHybrid/Discrete and bios updates, etc etc. I'm not afraid to mess with stuff (I'd definitely like to try undervolting), but how much effort is truely necessary to get the machine 'working right' and to have it last a good couple years? My previous laptop was a Lenovo T61p which lasted 9 years and was pretty hands-off.
One other question, my old T61p keyboard had a pointing stick which I loved. I disabled the touchpad and used the stick exclusively (when not using a mouse). Is it possible to swap out the keyboard on a machine like this?
Thanks for your help. -
Well over the next couple of years, you have to accept that you'll need to lower the graphics settings if you're mainly going to use it for gaming.
I.e. my GTX560Ti-1GB is still capable (mind you, its ~5years old!) of handling Tom Clancy's - Rainbow Six Siege, Total War: Warhammer as well as Ghost Recon: Wildlands on 1080p but fans at max and graphics on lowest. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Hitman 2017 however... they will crash when I try to load the game (main menu works). The same will eventually apply on a laptop.
As long as you don't go for a weird setup like: 4k screen with GTX1060/GTX1070 but for a 1080p screen with GTX1060/GTX1070 instead you'll be capable of lasting for a very long time! Also if fps is important for you, you might want to opt for a GTX1070 rather than a GTX1060. And of course when it comes to mobile devices (in general), the battery will degrade overtime. Long story short... it will last long, but how long mainly depends on your terms...
Concerning the keyboard, you might want to read: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-makes-the-worst-laptop-keyboard-ever.789740/ but I believe the summary of the whole topic is: P650XX-X serie is great, P670XX-X sucks and then were cats are taking over

my 670 keyboard is probably one of the best keyboards i've had on a gaming laptop. it aint no thinkpad but if the keys had a bit more resistance it'd be close (action is a BIT too light).
not as good as my old alienware 17 but better than asus and MSI in my experience and according to my taste. -
Hey guys, I have the Clevo P670HS-G, can I use the Obsidian tool/Bios listed on the first page of this thread even though it is the smaller brother of the same model?
Is there a Prema BIOS I can get for my laptop does anyone know? my 7820HK gets to 94 celsius even on stock clocks, even after a re-paste. The creator of throttlestop gave me the new 8.41 version which works better with Kaby Lake, so I undervolted some and it helped a lot.
Also, if anyone is interested I am adding a corsair H75 water cooler to mine. Not going to put it directly on the cpu, but on the heatsink. I cut out the back over the CPU, will use some gorilla glue tape to install it, and the 4 standoffs on the laptop I will make the same height as the corsair cooler, so a little pressure just from the weight of the laptop hits the heatsink but not to much pressure, basically its going to act as a 5th standoff all of them working together (assuming I measure it all right), and run the tubes behind the laptops and radiator mounted on back of laptop screen with more gorilla glue tape, no fan since its only 45 watt and open air radiator shouldn't need a fan.
USB to 3/4 pin adatper runs at 5v, which is enough to run the pump run at silent mode. now if I could just get a proper BIOS I could have some real fun

Hummm the OBSIDIAN-PC Tool will have full support for P670HS-G, just select it from the models list.
You wont be able to use the app to flash your BIOS tough, that feature is only available for our clients. -
Can I please pay you for the PREMA bios? I can skype with you if you like, show you my laptop/reciept of laptop where I bought it, etc. It overheats like a mofo and I already voided warranty by cutting hole in back to try and get some extra vent as seen in picture a few posts up. So I need some hail marry stuff to happen for me, come on mate lol -

BIOS won't cool it down. Use our OBSIDIAN app with throttlestop and apply our profile in the tab CPU.
Also consider a proper repaste with quality thermal compound.
If you want prema BIOS please ask him and donate to him. -

Guys, I read a weird statement over another forum saying that if using a g-sync screen, you would not be able to use the igpu for better battery life since the screen would be physically connected to the dgpu ; so far it makes sense, but I thought that in this new Clevo lineup Optimus has been replaced by a mux switch effectively connecting either igpu or dgpu to the screen according to the setting.
So here's my question: if using a g-sync screen on these models, can you run also into hybrid mode?
Envoyé de mon D5803 en utilisant Tapatalk -
Yes you can choose in the Bios if you would like to have the MSHybrid (without GSync) or Discrete GPU working mode.... You can also set the Bios setting with the Clevo Control Center CCC within windows but will have to reboot after that to get it working. Also after the first boot after changing the setting - Windows will recognize the GPU(s) new and it may take a minute to work correctly and the Nvidia Control panel sometimes takes up to 2 minutes to get available....
-
John@OBSIDIAN-PC Company Representative
Yes you can.
But gsync will only work in DISCRETE mode. When you use mshybrid you don't have gsync features.AndiiiHD likes this. -
The mux switch is between MsHybrid (Optimus) and Discrete (dgpu only).
In MsHybrid, the screen is connected to the igpu. dgpu works in Optimus mode. You can't enable gsync.
In Discrete, the screen is connected to the dgpu. igpu is disabled. You have gsync.
One thing to point out is that the mini DisplayPorts and HDMI are all connected to the dgpu in either mode. So you can use gsync on an external gsync-enabled screen.John@OBSIDIAN-PC likes this. -
jeanjackstyle Notebook Evangelist
All right, so I got it correctly. I do not know why this guy said "a g-sync screen prevents you from running in hybrid mode" but I guess it was an incomplete statement. Thanks!
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's true for models without a MUX switch which not many other manufacturers use.
-
I've actually found this to be different for me. But then I've been having so many problems it may be peculiar to my machine.
Using hwinfo64, I've found that even in the discrete mode, the Gtx 1070 would shut down (0Mhz clock and memory usage) and iGPU used when non-intensive tasks are running. And when playing games the iGPU usage would drop to 0 and the 1070 clocks go to 1400+ Mhz -
That is how MSHybrid works. By the way, Nvidia's driver has a preconfigured list of programs that automatically decides which program runs on iGPU and which on dGPU. You can see the full list in the nvidia control panel. There is no auto-detect for programs that are not in the list. In this case, you need to manually force a specific GPU using the control panel. Otherwise the iGPU by default will be chosen. Keep updating the drivers to get new programs in the list
Another thing is that both GPUs can run simultaneously but on different programs. It is even possible to run them simultaneously in the same program if it uses dx12 or vulcan and depending on coding. So you could have both running at max clock speed.
In discrete mode, there is no iGPU in hwinfo64. There is no intel control panel. The iGPU is disabled. All tasks even non-intensive ones are run through the dGPU.
I don't know what is the issue in your case but that doesn't look like discrete mode to me.Last edited: Apr 8, 2017thedummy likes this. -

I have the same BIOS as him, I put all 4 cores at 35, 45000 PL1 and PL2 at 56500 like his. and undervolt offset -100. no downclocking and temps never break 84 celsius. wish I could hit 4.2ghz like a lot of guys, but these CLevo laptops just don't have enough cooling for that. I should have went with Msi -

That depends on which of their machines you are talking about, those with better cooling will be quite a bit heavier and larger.
