I almost bought that same configuration, but then I decided to drop the 1TB HD for a larger SSD. Games benefit from being on an SSD rather than an HD - they will load faster, any loading screens will go by faster, etc. Plus an HD is louder, hotter, more power-hungry than an SSD. So I decided on one 500GB SSD that will keep everything.
I guess if ~$25-50 makes a difference to you, you can order things from Newegg or somewhere and install yourself. This may be a better strategy if you are willing to wait for a big sale. In that case, you can really save some money I imagine. But at everyday prices the markup at the resellers is pretty acceptable I think.
-
Ah cool. Keep an eye on the banner ads on this site, there is one from Xotic that gives $50 off. I think the code may be NBR, but i'm not entirely sure.

Repaste will depend on what you find. Seems ram prices skyrocketed for the impacts too... They used to be 64 everywhere so i paired it with the stock 8gb stick... Might be less in NZ who knows.

How the hell do you install BIOS and EC? My past machines (Alienware, MSI) you just ran them through windows and the machines automatically restarted and updated. So I downloaded them, extracted to a bootable FreeDOS Rufus USB, went into BIOS and disabled UEFI, now I am just staring at a black screen with C:/ blinking. What do I type? How do I update? I am a total noob at this more "advanced" stuff.
-
change to the folder where your bios/ec files are by typing cd foldername
then type flash.bat for bios update, ecflash.bat for ec update
let the magic happen... at least not for us P650RP6 owners

I'd like to know this too. If someone posts or links to a slightly more in-depth guide it would be helpful.
-
That did the trick! many thanks for your help!
-
I asked them several times and they say they really use them...
-
When u r on-the-go, u would probably prefer using HD530. So it doesn't matter at all whether u buy a 1060 or 1070.
-
To quote myself for people that need this more broken down for them, here are the steps:
1) Go to https://www.mysn.de/driver/XMG/XMG_P507_P707/BIOS/
2a) If your laptop has a GTX 1070 (15" or 17") or GTX 1060 (17") download the BIOS_XMG_P507_1070_P707_1060_1070_1.05.03a.zip and EC_XMG_P507_P707_1.05.02TR1.zip
2b) If your laptop has a GTX 1060 (15") download the EC_XMG_P507_mit_1060_1.05.02TR1.zip
3) download rufus from https://rufus.akeo.ie/ (I use the portable version personally)
4 )insert USB flash drive into your PC and run rufus
5) make sure the device listed on the top option on rufus is the USB drive you wish to format and hit start on the bottom. (keep everything at default)
6) once your usb drive is formatted open it up in windows explorer (you will see folders and other files in there)
7a) if you have a GTX 1070 (15" or 17") or GTX 1060 (17") create two folders name one EC, the other BIOS
7b) if you have a GTX 1060 (15") create one folder and name it EC
8) open up the zip files you downloaded from 2a or 2b and you will see a folder inside (sharing the same name as the zip) the zip, open that folder and copy all those files and put them in their respective folders on your flash drive. (Put BIOS files in the BIOS folder, and put the EC files in the EC folder)
9) once everything is copied over reboot and go into the bios (my prefered method is F7) and disable UEFI (at work cant remember where exactly this is in the bios) and hit save and exit
10) once your PC reboots hit F7 again and select your USB drive and hit enter
11) once you can type something at the command prompt, type cd EC then hit enter
12) then type in ECflash.bat and hit enter (your pc will then proceed to flash the file and might ask you to confirm before you flash)
13) when your laptop turns off, turn it back on again, might take one or two times before it stays on (If your laptop has a GTX 1060 (15") you are done and have the latest EC update, for everyone else there is a bios update as well)
14) once you get your pc to come up again hit f7 again and select your usb drive again and hit enter
15) at the command prompt type in cd BIOS and hit enter
16) then type in flash.bat and hit enter (your pc will then proceed to flash the file and might ask you to confirm before you flash)
17) when your laptop turns off, turn it back on again, might take one or two times before it stays on
Now you are done! and can turn on UEFI again the bios if you were using that. you have the latest bios and EC available for your laptop now. (also note if you flashed this it will reset any custom options you set in your bios, like if you were using discrete mode you will have to re-enable that, etc, etc..)
FYI I POSTED A NEWER BIOS FOR THIS LAPTOP (NOT EC) SO THIS GUIDE IS NOW OBSOLETELast edited: Oct 7, 2016GameheadBrock, TomJGX, capthook12 and 8 others like this. -
Anyone else having the issue where they can't get into bios? The first time it happened was due to failed ram oc. But I stopped doing that and I can't get in anymore. I'm getting tired of pulling the keyboard... It doesn't even show the "hit f2" thing
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk -
if you have UEFI enabled it will never show that F2 prompt, just hit F7 over and over again till you get in once the machine posts, it sometimes takes a few tries but it will work. You should never need to pull the keyboard.FredSRichardson likes this.

@gooface thank you so much!
-
Okay will give a shot ty! It's always been f2 in past for me
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk -
yeah IDK why but sager laptops for me always like the F7 better than the F2 (even though F7 takes you to the boot menu which in turn lets you into the bios)
-
I finally figured out how to get in bios through windows:
Click the Start menu and select Settings.
Select Update and Security.
Click Recovery.
Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. ...
Select Troubleshoot.
Choose Advanced options.
Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS).
None of the F keys worked for me.

You are a saint. I totally forgot about that method. F7 wasn't working either. F2 always worked fine but stopped working recently

weird you guys are having trouble with this... I usually have to reboot it maybe once or twice because it wont work..
Better hope you always have a good copy of windows installed to do that method otherwise you will be screwed. -
I have UEFI and no problem with getting into a BIOS via F2 key... I have very quick fingers
-
Good to know and to keep in mind for future reference. I didn't know this could cause a problem.

Yea the only fix has been a CMOS reset for me in past.

So is there a video review on the 1070 15" Sager yet?
Having to wait a few weeks on my back order is killing me, I just need that Sager porn! -
I've got mine. Feel free to ask me anything. Btw the headphone audio is great for those wondering. I've I get free time I can maybe do a video review on day.

Yes, it's nice not having a hiss when you plug in some headphones.
-
Yeah I remember you having the same model, and thanks for the audio update!
That would be awesome if you did by the way, because it's honestly amazing that there isn't any video that I can find. I can't even find a 15" 10XX gen Sager/Clevo review or mention at all.
Sure, there's some hiccups because it literally just launched. But with the help of this forum, by the time I get mine - I won't be asking any questions.

@William Willis did you end up going with a PCIe SSD for the laptop? I am still torn between the 850 EVO and the 600p. Some of the reviews of the 600p are so-so, but on the other hand its a PCIe SSD that basically costs as much as a SATA one.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 950 Evo will be worth keeping an eye out for.
-
Do we have a rough ETA of the 950 EVO? I have not heard anything. The 950 PRO is ~$250 more than the 850 EVO, and that seems like too much money to me. I think the Intel 600p is the only "affordable" PCIe SSD at the moment, but it seems to have some issues. I'm leaning towards the 850 EVO because it is such a good drive, even if this means I am essentially buying last generation hardware.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
October, around the same time as the PRO.
-
Agreed it wasn't to shabby I did an a/b with my dragonfly red. There was a difference but close enough I wouldn't complain if I didnt have the dragonfly. Also mine is not the Rs with the dac
-
Wow nice! I have the rs which has the sabre dac and the Texas instruments DAC. I'm not sure why there are two or how they work

After many hours of looking into this, here is the solution to open the OC CPU RAM app in the control center.
It seems that if you install Windows in some languages it wont work, here is a guide on how to fix this:

250GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD as OS
1TB 7200rpm SATA2 Hard Drive as storage
i may upgrade eventually, but i'm not one to bog a bunch of games into storage or my ssd from steam or something other. -
I could be wrong but I think at least for the MSI models the SABRE DAC is only for headphone audio, since theres not much point using it for the meh speakers.

The updates fixed that issue for me....
EDIT: Sorry, I was wrong. They didn't fix anything but the fan. System still gets serious lag with an external monitor plugged in.Last edited: Sep 28, 2016 -
But then what's the Texas instruments burr brown DAC for is my main question?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk -
Audio processing for other things potentially speakers?
For example my phone has two different AKM dacs one for headphone one for speakers
Sent from my ZTE A2017U -
The speakers. SABRE is headphones TI is speakers would be my guess.
-
That's my best guess too. Would be interesting to side by side comparison on speakers between models.

Are new Clevo P65x laptops shipping with the newer BIOS and EC which reportedly fix the fan and external display issues?
capthook12 likes this. -
I'd be surprised if there is a DAC specifically for Headphones, and a DAC specifically for speakers, unless you can output both at the same time.
Now that I type that out, though, it would be my guess that is exactly what it is. If it has two stereo outputs, and they can be used at the same time for separate signals, then two DACs would be needed for decent fidelity there. Now, putting a DAC behind laptop speakers *would* confuse me quite a bit... -
Pretty sure yes for the fan issue, not sure about the external display.
-
I feel ya. Didn't make this video so I don't want to take away from the creator, but thought I'd share it since it goes over some details about the NP8153-S:

TI/Burr-Brown is op-amp for headphone output. Sabre is DAC only.

Any chance you can find one about the NP8152 (1060)?
-
would you prefer a video
review or a written one? -
One person here said it fixed it, but for me it definitely did not fix it. Plugging in an external display still locks up one of the 8 virtual CPU cores. I never had the display lag problem per se, but it is still bugging the CPU and ACPI.sys is still going nuts. It's most likely an nvidia or windows problem, maybe BIOS. Sager will have my laptop to test by the end of the week, hopefully it leads to a solution one way or another.capthook12 likes this.
-
all the best to you with that issue mate. Really hoping that Sager or Clevo or anyone for that matter can solve that issue. I use an external monitor most of the time personally so any solution to this problem is a godsendcapthook12 likes this.

I am 99% sure that this is BIOS/hardware problem. I had this problem on Windows and Linux. I tested all available drivers for GTX1070 for both Windows and Linux. Also I didn't hear about other GTX1070 laptop with the same issue.
