Its also mostly nvidias issue. High DPC and acpi issue even when not connected to external display has been around since 500M series or earlier that seems to effect decent chunk of people
Driver changes arent going to help because there are no mature drivers for pascal mobile...welcome to early adoption. We need to be reporting this to nviddy too

I've seen the review up on NotebookCheck and some people here have also said their experiences with the NP8152, so I would prefer to see a (Maybe in-depth?) video

I would like to know why Sager chose the Goldkey for memory? I am sure there are many good brands out there like Kingston, G-Skill, Corsair, Geel, Micron, Samsung that can offer good OEM price and people can find some of them online to upgrade, why should I pay 65$ to buy extra 8GB while paying 67$ will give me this Crucial 2400 16GB kit
https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC4-...=1474967689&sr=8-6&keywords=ddr4+2400+so-dimm
and second I would like to know where Sager found SATA 2 1TB HHDs I thought they gone with the last ice age, Sager need to do more to their customers, AVA Direct offer better SPEC with better pricing and I only bought Sager because one of their reseller sold me one on Amazon since I can't pay directly by my Visa. -
Hi everyone !
I just received a schenker h707 (p671rp6-g, 1060, 6700HQ), the same as Kitty's one.
I'm satisfied of the perfs and cooling system. Time Spy is around 3550 without o/c (2*8 GB HX 2400Mhz, Nvme sm951 512 gb, killer 1535).
The only thing I don't understand is how works the subwoofer: it doesn't appear in the device manager, but the sound is quite good. Any idea?
Thx -
Hey guys, for anyone experiencing really bad, almost yellowish backlight bleed, that should be fixed by relieving pressure off the screen that's due to the screen cover.
I have a P650RS ordered and the reseller I ordered from gave me an update today that it will be delayed by one day because he doesn't want to ship the product in that state unless I want him to. Check out today's update with the link in my sig. They are using a dremel on the inside of the screen to try and relieve some of that pressure.Dennismungai and FredSRichardson like this. -
Finally ordered the P670RS from LPC Digital. Went with pretty much the standard configuration, except I swapped out the hard drive and upgraded the SSD to a 500GB. Looking forward to getting it in my hands.
-
It's just a typo. I have Sager ordered from Xotic and I can confirm it's SATA III.capthook12 likes this.

It was too hard to believe that any one can put SATA2 HDD in any device after 2014 but many Sager re-sellers mentioned the same point that I believed it.

Lazyness of updating website or listing options is best bet. Also goldkey is a major oem supplier... They used to make majority of simcards on the market and everything, its SKHynix memory so its fine just keep default ram amount and order the ones you want on side to get way more!
A lot of ram sticks in other brands that only have a p/n sticker and ram lists hynix is probably also goldkey.
Its a solid brand you just never heard of it because its oem only so there also is chance hynix based chips from Other brands are just also relabeled goldkeys...
It plays totally fine with other brands of ddr4 2400

Does anyone have a sort of checklist of things to do with the laptop once I get it to make sure everything is fine?
I assume I need to check BIOS/EC versions and update if they are not the same ones @gooface posted. Then run some kind of monitoring program and stress test to see that the cooling is doing ok. But I have not done it before. Any advice?
And are there other essential things I ought to do in the "set up" phase? -
Inspect exterior, then just set up all the drivers. Go into your favorite newest game with monitor like hwmonitor and hammer away for about 20 to 30m then check max temp given on cpu and gpu if unhappy with it then repaste.
Check display for any banding, go to black screen to check bleed and then if you really want to go all in google keyboard tester there are sites that you press keys it will light up and show you it works...so you can test entire keyboard.
Besides that if your not on 1.05.03 then yes bios update but FIRST the EC update if you dont have it! Goo posted a TuT on that part though and its a road to cross when you get there.

Thank you @Kittys . I went with IC diamond from LPC Digital, so I am really hoping no need to repaste. I know it is not that hard, but I just have the feeling that I might mess something up. And all the videos online seem to have different methods - apply an X, apply just a drop, draw a box with an X, etc... I guess maybe it means that it doesn't matter too much how you do it?
I did save the guide goo posted for the BIOS and EC update. Those are from XMG, but it shouldn't matter, right? It's all Sager in the end.
Is there any utility out there that goes through and checks that all the drivers are up to date? I know some laptop manufacturers like Lenovo have one. In theory Windows Updaters is supposed to look for new drivers, but I do not really trust it to find everything that's supposed to be updated. -
You should be fine in temp Department then. For application there really is no wrong way... Put on too little it will affect temps but put too much it wont...so its better to just add more if your truly unsure. Application method doesn't matter honestly they all produce same result but on laptops i do even spread to make it less messy.
Bios are all from clevo and signed by clevo so yes. The only variance is the start up logos.
The systems very non bloated software wise theres only like 8 things to download and install then reboot and your good. No auto updater unfortunately... 3rd party ones are very spotty and can cause more harm.

Is the Sager website the right place to grab all of the drivers then, or should I go to each manufacturer separately? Thanks again for answering all the questions.
-
Sagers website for everything except gpu. Go straight to geforce experience 3 and download newest driver set.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U -
You should post some pics in this thread when you get yours so we can see how successful they were at removing the bleed.
-
In all the videos I saw, Goldekey make their memory and the chips were branded with Goldekey that is why no one succeed in making Goldkey sodimms run XMP with any other brand. and they are still way overpriced.
-
A video tutorial would even be nice
I'm clueless how to do this, so I unfortunately had to send the 8153 back to California. That hot spot I recorded in my video review on the top right was the result of the plastic edge pressing into the screen. The ones in the corner were just normal IPS glow from the edges.
-
Yeah I had the exact same thing. Picture in bottom of first post in my sig. But it's not me that is doing the fix, it's the reseller.
I intend to don't worry
-
Do you think that doing it yourself would fix the problem? Awesome review by the way helped me with getting aware of things when I do get my unit!
-
XMP will never work properly with brand mixing. Even if you have matching CL the chances timings will match without issue is rare you never ever ever enable XMP while mixing. Even if they are labeled goldkey though the chips are hynix supplied and they are #2 next to samsung. They are more expensive because the seller has to make money too...laptops are very low overhead items compared to other products.

It would be nice if Sager, Clevo, Xotic, XMG or any major brand made a video of how to add/replace RAM,HDD/SSD, Thermal past and other replaceable parts so people can do it the right way.
-
Thanks Grant. If I could get right of the hot spot on the top right being caused from screen pressing on it, I certainly would. I'm just concerned I'll end up pressing too hard and/or breaking it in the process. I figured since I've only been using it for about two weeks, I should probably just send it back to Sager.CGrant likes this.

Isn't GSYNC broken even with the latest drivers? I'm still using 368.83 from Sager's site. Haven't tested the latest drivers tho.
-
If Kingston sell the 2x8GB for 80$ for masses companies like sager can get it in OEM pack with price tag of 50$ or less, and if they priced it for 85 - 90$ no one will ask a question.
-
Except... Kingston sources from Hynix too as one of their module suppliers. They are literally same thing one just has oem label and branding and other is mass market. There are reasons you dont see hp and dell and others putting name brand ram in the system. They either source from Samsung directly....go to micron....go to hynix or go to goldkey or toshiba or whoever they want for same chips even cheaper.
Your only really getting nand from samsung, toshiba, and hynix. Rest would be subpar (ex: elpida)
If you really care for it there are sellers that let you specify exact brand ram you want but even then its a premium over amazon or newegg.
As for gsync im not sure Ive been working so much I havent tried it
Sent from my ZTE A2017U -
Latest G-Sync drivers are terrible. Sager's, NVidia's 372.70 and 372.90 have really bad G-Sync issues. I found the NVidia forums full of them.
-
I'd rephrase, never assume brand-mixed XMP will work. XMP is written to the SPD, and is non-jedec values. This means whoever is assembling the full board calls the shots for the XMP timing, datarate, etc. Sometimes a motherboard will scan the XMP available and set one all the memory can boot with, other times it will ignore XMP and go with JEDEC-only.
However, mixing and matching, as Kitty said, should never be assumed to work with XMP.Dennismungai likes this. -
I had my goldkey ram running up near 2800mhz, before I realized over clocking my ram was basically pointless for any realistic scenario.

First I walked around local stores and found that all of them either have Kingston or G-Skill or both, the three big stores have Crucial, Patriot, Samsung OEM, Samsung ECC So-dim but non can recognize Goldkey (a smart seller at small shop warned me that Goldkey keyboards are dangerous and can cause serious injuries and offer me Havit keyboard for 10$) on internet I couldn't find any seller for these memories, point is if I want to upgrade memory I have three options 1- add any brand to the memory in my laptop and say goodby to XMP, or replace the memory entirely and throw the one inside the laptop and loose some money, or I can forget about upgrade memory at all.
I found great offer from AVA direct (P650RS-G, Core i7 6700HQ, 4K Panel, 16GB DDR4 2400 CL14 Kingston, 256GB Sata III M2 SSD the rest is the minimum for 1740$) but they didn't accept my Visa card,so I went to Xotic PC who where nice enough to list my order on Amazon so I can buy and they where so patient with me that I wish one day they will customize their systems in house so that I can stay loyal customer, Thanks Patrick & Emily. -
Or write new spd with matching xmp...

"Or write new spd with matching xmp" ? some help please
-
I couldn't find Clevo barebones
-
It is basically like flashing a custom BIOS. As long as you don't overwrite the JEDEC speeds, you can try matching to the Goldkey SPD or the new SPD (keeping backups, of course) and see what works.
If this is all way over your head, then just don't do it. You don't need XMP -- So long as both brands support the same JEDEC standards, they'll play nice enough.
You can also try swapping which set is in the first slot, since the SPD of the first kit seen may be used to set the timings for all DIMMs. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Even if the timings end up not being the fastest around you are unlikely to notice the difference due to the very small impact on overall performance.

But don't you understand, we have to have the absolute best and fastest no matter what.

Is the Clevo motherboard capable of writing to the EEPROM on the RAM (i.e. to overwrite the RAM chip's SPD data)? Or do you need different hardware for this? Someone has a nice blog on writing RAM SPD data using an Arduino.
http://blog.zakkemble.co.uk/modifying-ram-spd-data/
Just curious, certainly not something I'd ever mess with =P -
I already explained goldkey only sells to oems and as everyones said...xmp doesn't matter. What matters is matching brands and NOT labeled brands if it comes to it add more ram from kingston thats also hynix or another consumer level ram company using hynix chips and even then it doesn't matter mostly if you mix samsung with hynix and so forth.
Also goldkey does NOT make keyboards...that shop knew squat... and havit is also garbage third rate quality stuff you find on trading sites.
Youll be fine so dont worry. I dont even run with xmp profiles on my desktops 32gb of ddr4 3000 from geil theres like no difference
Youll enjoy it! Xotic will usually do stuff like that just have to ask. It will add a week no matter what to lead time though ive found.

Don't waste your time! As per Intel guidelines stock firmware won't allow you to flash SPD profiles ever since Haswell...
(We 'fixed' that for the prema mods).Last edited: Sep 27, 2016baytotheapple and FredSRichardson like this. -
I haven't messed with SPD in ages, but it should be writable unless it is write protected. It is essentially the same level access as writing to a GPU or Motherboard BIOS. Virtually any firmware can be written to once all the hardware has been initialized. The only reason you would need to write to the ROM with extra hardware is to recover from a bad write, thus requiring a direct serial write.
-
I legitimately recommend against it unless you already know what it is. I mentioned it only as a reminder that the option exists, in case you already knew. It is not risky for any hardware other than the ram, and apparently intel is blocking it at all for some reason according to other posts...
Your best bet is to just slap any other memory in there, and run it at whatever the highest common timing table is.
Goldkey is as good or better than most cheap stuff you will find. If it was junk Sager/Clevo/Xotic, etc wouldn't touch it since that causes increased cost in support and warranties. The actual modules are top quality, and the build conforms to JEDEC spec. It is good memory, individually hand tested. Don't sweat it. -
*grabs popcorn and waits* I gave up at security capsule so im just waiting for your magic.

I know goldkey does NOT make keyboards and havit is also garbage third rate quality stuff you find on trading sites and in Iraq and here in Iraq we call the people who started openning computer shops in late 90s and 2000s without any knowledge (Computer Grocery) so it's no wonder that he thought that Goldkey is keyboard brand without even asking what is Goldkey . I will try your advice and keep both sodimms and see the results.
-
You always have a "no ram" option at Sager / Xotic PC / HIDEvolution, and many many other manufacturers.

Im mixing myself (GSKILL with the Goldkey) Just get 2400 to add in not 2133 and you should be good.
Aha ooh yah we have plenty of that here too.
