I noticed it, but for me it's not a big deal. I think it might actually be hardware related, so a registry fix won't be the solution.
I had a television, where it could not be turned off, so I started using VGA connection as input and it went away.
This is exactly the point. The built-in power-saving of the screen is probably adjusting directly on the input from the computer, so no easy fix can be achieved :/

IMHO the HotKey app is not a nice thing, since it blocks the CPU frequency when using battery, but as I said it probably won't do any difference to the built-in dimming.
Now what we need to figure out is if every screen has this problem. I have the cheapest solution: AUO36ED 1920x1080 and it is doing the dimming.

Whut? You can simply adjust windows power settings and let your CPU fly on battery if you want. I have throttlestop set up to limit me on battery, but I've had high speed on battery before. It kills the battery, sure, but still.

I'll reinstall windows in a few days and I'll see then if the dimming is there without the hotkey app.

Are the latest sager bios and ec posted anywhere? I remember that someone said that he had them, but I couldn't find anywhere to download it.

On my machine HotKey was blocking the CPU at 1.45 ghz as soon as the background service was up and running post-boot. I could see the CPU going from 3.4 Ghz to 1.45 Ghz (and no higher) during the boot. With Throttlestep I could manually override this limit, but why did HotKey do that in the first place? I tried all profiles in the program as well.
I have now removed it and have no problems and is not missing anything.

Can you do me a favour and run hotkey app and set a custom windows power plan with "minimum processor state" and "maximum processor state" on battery both to 100% and leave your hotkey app showing as "custom" or "user defined"? Your app looks different to mine, but it should be something like this:

If anyone is experiencing problems using Intel Virtualization Technology after installing PremaMod, just go and turn it off and on in BIOS, even though it says "Enabled" it wasn't in my case.
I had a guest OS unable to boot after PremaMod, because vt-x was no longer available.

My control center looks totally different than yours.

    @xink64

My hotkey app us also limiting my cpu to 1.45ghz in both prime and intel burn test...in windows power plans it is set to maximum 100%

My screen is the AUO AVHA..not the cheap TN

I know it looks totally different. Yours looks like:

The point I was making is that you should be able to set some form of "user defined" setup.

When I apply a power plan in control center it automatically switches in windows asswell

Entertainment and quiet correspond to balanced in windows.

    Power saving is...power saver

    Max performance is.... self explanatory.

Most settings that I set for each power plan in windows are applied correctly....processor state is limited

well, with my machine its a bit different cuz the desktop cpu is already drawing close to 80W undervolted/overclocked, thats already like 30W more than the 4710HQ. the p6xx series should be completely fine with a 180W adapter in almost all scenarios, unless u decide to overclock the crap outta your 980M ;)
cant give u exact numbers for stock usage, but its definitely in the range of around 200W +/- 15W. with everything overclocked ive gotten 286W peak draw from the wall thus far, still testing though.

try prema's website (google is your friend "premamod") in the section "important" he has set up downloads for the latest bios/ec versions :)

Well if you cannot set a power plan in windows with custom settings like I said for that other user to test and have your CPU not be speed-limited, then you all should mention this to Sager and maybe Clevo can update their hotkey software to stop artificially limiting your processor speeds. Who knows? It might really happen.

    Okay here is a follow-up.

I found two programs that look like yours. Hotkey 8.0.134 and 8.0.150, installed and they do nothing as far as I tried.
Then there is the program for P651SE that I was using called Hotkey 3. something.

I made power profiles and all sort of stuff and the program cannot even open (just says something like I'm missing a driver), BUT it still blocks my cpu as soon as I disconnect the adapter.

Clevo is obviously not known for selling / creating software, but rather for their hardware. I would advise anyone to remove the HotKey programs they do next to nothing and they tamper with the laptop on a near ACPI level of abstraction.
    Let Windows handle it instead!

I guess there is no way around the laptop getting quite warm huh? :)

@-Jinx- Since we don't have the same screen, but it comes from the same company, it doesn't tell if this is done by the laptop or the AUO's own hardware implementation :/
And it doesn't say if we can fix it somehow either...

its not that bad, actually :) sure, the area where the CPU is located gets a bit warm, but not uncomfortably so. besides, aside from benchmarks i always run at stock or undervolted/underclocked settings, so in extended gaming sessions i dont expect any thermal problems whatsoever on auto fans ;) as for benchmarks, i always use the full fan option to provide the best possible situation for my stressed hardware :p

@jaybee83 - How does you CPU do in a test like GeekBench 3 or similar? I would like to know how much juice you're getting from that i7.. I get around 12k something on mine stock.

I don't even think Luna would care right now. Multiposting has been broken for me for ages and editing posts now opens a new page, instead of doing it right there on the browser. It's a bloody pain if I see a new message or forget to quote someone to get it into one message. And that is entirely the fault of whoever is responsible for setting up this xenforo thing, and nobody can tell me otherwise.

Ok...so I managed to disable that annoying adaptive brightness..

So in addition to all the windows 8 power settings you need to go to intelHD control panel >> power.

Here is where it gets very counterintuitive.

You need to sellect "battery" and only them the option to disable adaptive brightness appears.

You disable it here and it's gone for good both in plugged in AND battery mode.

    Wow :D
It's definitely the most power you can get out of a laptop until 5th gen i7s gets around!

Nice! I really thought that it would be out of reach from Windows like with my TV, but I guess they were smarter than that! Thank you very much it works!!

Are you sure that works? At least on my P751ZM even with hotkey and windows power settings on performance mode ( with the cpu set to 100% when on battery) the cpu won't go past 2.9ghz.

If it's not turbo-ing to the max, that's very likely a TDP limitation of some kind. Setting windows power settings to 100% doesn't force turbo to max speeds. It simply makes your minimum setting the "base clock" of your CPU, which is about 2.6GHz. The battery can't supply enough power for full CPU usage I'm sure, but that's not a 1.45GHz lock =D

I've got an Ikea TV, which is just a rebranded TCL from china.
I will try it out with movie-mode, maybe I will get lucky :D

I think you're being too good on your battery. I could imagine that it runs really poorly then :( I know I can't live with 1.45 ghz it's simply too sluggish, especially because of the TurboBoost being completely killed as well.
When you're used to 3.4 ghz on a particular operation, you feel the difference :D

Why do people praise the Sharp 4K panel so much? While it is nice and bright and has good viewing angles, it is really distractingly grainy, which is quite evident on a white background.

Does scaling to 1080 still have **** battery?
How well does power saver work?
Any hope for me to get more than 2 hours out of this guy?

I can squeeze around 4:30 to 5 hours at most from my rig when browsing internet, wifi and power saving mode on. I find the best to use Clevo hotkey for power saving as it has more features to play with.
