Can you provide measurements as to what you're seeing as really hot? Benchmarks are designed to stress the system and so not uncommon to have high temps when stressing the CPU.

The stock PSU should've at least 150w, my XMG-branded 651SE came with 180w, who h should be plenty in most scenarios

Thanks for correcting me on that. I didn't have mine here to confirm what wattage the stock had. 120 sounded right but I was wrong. I figured that 150-180 would be more than enough but I'm just curious about why anyone would want to use the higher wattage 240 PSU.

Yeah, the stock PSU is 180W, which is fine for the 970M in the NP8651 even if you overclock, and is enough for a stock 980M in the 8652. The only reason to get a bigger PSU is if you have an NP8652 and plan on overclocking the 980M, which can exceed the 180W limit.

That's what I was thinking about. I have the 980m variant and overclocking that would be nice and if that needs more wattage then I could see that helping.

especially when overvolting, the 980M can get really powerhungry really fast ;) its of course not an apples to apples comparison, but when ocing both the gpu and cpu on my rig, im seeing close to 300W in power consumption at the wall socket in some scenarios, so i can easily imagine the 980M drawing more than 180W even with a slower cpu at stock clocks :)

Here is a benchmark an a stress test, on both test the first run is with the fan on automatic and the second on with maximum speed.

i kid you not :D 300W at the wall of course translates to about 261W actual load on the psu considering its rated at 87%, but thats still a buttload of power. in any case, im glad i got myself 330W psu for home usage while using the stock 230W adapter at work :)

Those aren't bad temps at all for some stress testing. Pretty good in my opinion.

I'm just now noticing a weird dimming of my screen.....actually I noticed it before but until today I just thought it was my imagination.

It doesn't depend on the ambient lighting.....it's kinda like on the new smart TV's ...when you get dark images on the screen, it automatically dims down...when you go back to a bright image then the screen gradually lights up again.

Anyone know how to make this stop...it's really annoying.

P.S. adaptive brightness is already disabled in windows...including in registry

I have a feelong this stuff is somehow related to the hotkey app.

    Is that app really necessary?

I mean can't we just run the laptop without it?

You could, but your hotkeys may not respond. Keyboard backlighting won't likely work well (if at all) and you won't be able to disable the trackpad and you POSSIBLY won't be able to use max fans.

Yeah...I was thinking about the keyboard backlight...

Touchpad is not a prob....you have a setting in the driver to automatically disable it when connecting a mouse.

Most other hotkeys aren't really important for me...the only one actually being problematic would be keyboard backlight.

Also does anyone know what happened to the option to disable the charm bar when swiping in the synaptics driver?

    It was there before..

Its pretty good. Only complaint is that it isnt "too bright" compared to the usual screens I use. Mines Glossy using matte film (as stated in my sig). Downscaling resolution to 1080p is fine. No issues there.

@weav and those with brightness issues. Hotkey has adaptive brightness. May want to kill it.

Just ordered my np8652 with a 4k matte sharp display, 8gb ram (ill add 8 more), going to add 2 128gb m.2 ssd and run them in raid.

Does anyone have estimates on the length it takes to arrive if i live in the usa if i ordered it from xotic?

try blowing canned air at the keyboard. I get missed strokes now and then, and it's ALWAYS as a result of a tiny something being under a key or something. Canned air usually fixes it instantly.

I also have this problem, made a post about it like a week ago (se quoted post with uploaded file). Is your problem the same as mine @ycon?

I have actually contacted my reseller and they have shipped a new keyboard to me, but now it seems this is a pretty common problem so not sure if it will help :O.

Try D2 Ultimas tip, it did not help me though :(.

If this is a common complaint, you can bet they'll fix it in a revision I'm sure. That however will not be 970M/980M series XD.

Since the only response I got from other users was that their spacebar worked fine I figuered it would be fixable via a replacement, I am beginning to doubt if that will be the case now though :O. As my spacebar "works" now it is unbearable.

Standard production time is estimated at 7-12 business days but your specific build time may vary depending on the options you have selected. If you can PM me an order number or email me with your information I can look at it specifically.

The temps people reference on computers is pretty universally in Celsius. Your temps in Celsius are well within tolerance and seem to even be pretty good. You don't have any need to be concerned about your temps.

Surely his temps are 98°C, which must be considered quite hot for running stress tests or benchmarks in XTU? During a stress test for such a limited period of time my CPU does not even reach 80°C.

EDIT: I should probably add that I experience a lot of CPU throttling on my machine so that might affect the temperature of my chip.

Are you running with the stock 8GB single channel RAM? When I ran the XTU test and benchmark using the stock RAM, with a 60mV undervolt, my temps barely broke 80C. But switching to 16GB Kingston HyperX 1866MHz in dual-channel pushed my temps in the XTU stress test and benchmark up to the upper 90s. In that benchmark, I need to run an 80mV undervolt *and* use a cooling pad to avoid thermal throttling.

I am running with the 2x8GB 1600MHz (Crucial) RAM that came with my particular setup (a preselected one at a discounted price).
I sure hope my settings are correct and that my temps won't go up, I would hate to have to use my old cooling pad (CM U3 with 6 fans) on this slim beauty.

You need to have your 970M GPU activated I believe.. So start up a game and minimise it... Start GPU-Z up (ideally before opening the game) and you should be able to dump vBIOS

Yes MX-4 is a junk paste.. In fact it's useless...Gelid GC Extreme will do temps at least 10C lower then MX-4 (IC Diamond is similar to GC Extreme) and my temps dropped by 10C under load when using IC... Could OC more too..

Repaste.. I think the dual channel RAM + extra stress on memory controller due to 1866MHz RAM isn't helping!

I've it repasted with that artic paste and I don't even hit 80's with Intel xtu benchmark.

While gaming I rarely surpass 62 degree under full graphic load.

So I guess it isn't such a bad option.

Same for me. Temps go a little higher during gaming but stays within reasonable levels (60-80). However, I have no doubt that the other pastes are far superior to this one during extreme loads.

u cant install it as an aftermarket upgrade, it has to be installed on the motherboard as a factory option. u can check in the bios if u have a TPM chip installed or not.

Hey guys, I've been experience a lot of frame rate issues with the P651SG(980M) and the P670SG(980M). Whenever running games the frame rate would just suddenly dip down to the low 20s then shoot back up to 60fps. Is it an issue with the power supply (180W) not providing enough power? I stress tested both systems using Furmark and Prime95 at the same time and it was drawing out 212W of power. Any way to order a 230W power supply direct from Clevo?

I see that the competitors (Asus/MSI) use a 230W power brick with their 980M models. Possible oversight by Clevo? Thanks!

Bit of an oversight, but not for stock usage. You should check if your GPU or CPU is throttling in games for some reason instead, probably around the time your FPS tanks.

I'm using MSI Afterburner, which OSD settings should I enable to see when it throttles?

I'll also point out that I do NOT have these issues with the P650SE (970M) which also uses a 180W Adapter.

You could use MSI Afterburner. It is configurable to show clock speed and utilization. If you notice 20fps, you can see if all your CPU cores are maxed at 3.4GHz and if your 980M is at 1038 or 1127MHz and its memory is at 5000MHz as it should be

And I got a my 4710hq + 970m running on only 180watt with no issues, but I guess the 980m just takes a lot more power or is it just because of OCing? What is the stock power usage like on yours?
