Gentech are not as much of a Sager reseller as Xotic PC and LPC Digital.. Their focus is more on MSI and Asus... So probably choices are limited... If they can't offer 6820HK, go with LPC, nothing wrong... Personally, if you want something plug and play out of the box with no tweaking, the Gentech option is best... With 6820HK you'll need to play around a bit and find the sweet spot..

The 6820HK will work fine out of the box, with the option to overclock should you choose to do so. Now begone. -
Buy one of the weakest worst i7 ever from Intel... Such as i7-6700Hq now just before the New Year and Kaby lake, is more like being on long berry-picking
A terrible recommendation bro
-
Just stating the fact, yes it will work out of the box but if you want optimal performance, you need to tweak the voltage and decide what multiplier you want... The 6820HK usually runs at a higher voltage than 6700HQ for a similar clock due to binning...
If you just want something that works without any tweaking, get the 6700HQ...
Also what's your problem? There's no need for that attitude with me, just because I disagree with you about Hidevolution being the answer for everything doesn't mean you need to be a dick... Your really acting like a bloody fanboi now.. -
Tom. Please don't recommend this trashy i7. I wouldn't even dare to recommend this ^^^ to my older grandmother

I know but there are literally 2 choices.. I'm listing then out, up to the OP to get what he/she wants lol.. I personally wouldn't get the 6700HQ but not everyone is like me or you mate..
People need to understand, we the members on the forum are making recommendations... Everyone has different ones.. We have already made our choice and bought something.. The power to make the decision to buy something is at the end of the day with them.. I will say what I have to say, you can then make up your mind accordingly or on whatever perception you have formed..
If you don't like my thoughts feel free to let me know.. I'm happy to debate with you etc.. There's no need to act like a kid and throw insults, telling me to be gone or acting jealous because I don't have Prema BIOS..
Many of us here are blessed to have what we have.. We should appreciate it, how many of us can say we have a laptop or desktop with this this... Many ppl today don't even have enough money to get food..

Why not?
-
Yeah, I can understand getting a 6820HK in a long term standpoint. I mean if I'm spending 2 grand on a laptop, it's pretty much all or nothing. But yeah, definitely getting the 6820HK due to y'alls recommendations. Anyways, are the X400 series good compared to the 850 Evo series?
-
Good choice
As for SSDs, I would suggest getting a 256GB NVME SSD for your OS and getting a 1TB 7200rpm drive along with another SSD.. The X400 isn't bad but it has TLC memory which is not as resilient as MLC memory... Something like a 480GB/960GB SanDisk extreme pro would be good choice..

Ywah I was considering getting the 950 Pro series and the 960 Evo series when they come out as a boot drive.
-
X400 is a great drive no issues with mien ever

Because You get a fully locked down wimpy low entry Intel [email protected] GHz on all 4 cores!! Not much faster than a medium performing soon 4 years old i7-47xxMq - 48xxMq from early 2013. And Kaby lake is around the corner.TomJGX likes this.

Note that the average consumer wont use up even a TLC drive before it's obsolete. -
But some want pay a bit more so they can get peace in their mind
TomJGX likes this. -
I can compromise on many things but not on this point.. TLC is junk plain and simple... We started with SLC, that went to MLC and now TLC.. Buy MLC drives so it doesn't die!
Agreed!
I need to add another slogan to my list!
Death to TLC!!!

I can bear with TLC, but not soldered low binned trash from Intel
You know... You can have Backup several places today
But yeah. I always buy/prefer ssd's with MLC nand

I tell it how it is, not how people want to hear it or have justified it to themselves
-
And fair enougn... I understand that not everyone hates TLC as I do... It's not a bad option but it needs to be half the price of a MLC drive to justify the cost to me.. it's currently about 3/4 which is unacceptable for me
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
While the small real world performance increase is not enough to justify the 33% increase in cost to use MLC for others
-
@Meaker@Sager NP8173 Drivers are out of date compared to Clevo's, but Clevo's server doesn't even work for me. When'll those be updated?
-
Try Asia server for downloading because its usually best anyways

See the comparison below (6700Hq / 1070) vs (6820Hk / 1070). What about the time when you need to the lower everything to get usable fps? Will this low end trashy 6700Hq give you better or worse pleasure? And what with real dayly work(need more power from the processor)? And no one believes it comes out new games later that need more processing power? This low end i7-6700BGA are simply castrated garbage pushed out from Intel. And people buy
-
-
-
Yeah. Stock clocks. As you can see.. The weak crippled low entry 6700BGA doesn't do the same job in gaming...!! And what with future games?
-
Just need the 6820HK, any particular reason why this config isn't available? Would you be able to do a "special order" for someone if needed with 6820HK with Sager?
-
Yeah, I would order at Gentech if y'all have the 6820HK. That processor plus CLU is going to be awesome!
Particularly in this model
http://www.gentechpc.com/Sager-NP8173-S-Clevo-P670RS-nVidia-GTX-1070-8GB-p/sager-np8173-s.htm -
It was backed-ordered a while but now we have listed i7-6820HK upgrade.

As frame rate increases so does the demand on the CPU.
Also note that due to the configurable TDP of the 10xx series comparing two different models like that (for CPU performance) is pointless unless you confirm the clock rates matched.Strykur likes this. -
That was fast! Definitely going for gentech now
By the way, do you guys offer student discounts? Currently a junior at High School if y'all need that info. -

Cash discount is bigger, cannot combine the 2 which is a shame.. -
Dang. I guess I'll go with cash option.

Talk to Ken, see what he can do
I always haggle and try to get the lowest price, don't give up this easily
.. They always have some flex..

I'll try my best lol.
Just wondering, can anyone tell me about the audio quality the Sabre DAC gives? Like is it noticable compared to phones or pretty much anything that doesn't have it? I own a pair of SoundMagic E80S and I really like listening to music and hearing gaming ambiance.TomJGX likes this. -
One of my fields of work is pro audio, and I can say it does sound neutral (which is what I'm looking for haha). Of couse this all depends on your headphones, Samsung Galaxy earbuds for example aren't going to sound good. The pair you said you had looks decent, but I have no experience so I won't comment on that further. Meaker posted the exact chip combo a while back if you want to take a look. Will it sound better compared to a phone? Well, that depends on which phone. LG's V line has top of the line DACs and Samsung's Wolfsons are pretty nice as well. If you're coming from an iPhone, I haven't tried them personally but I have heard the sound is a bit harsh on them, so you may experience a larger improvement in quality compared to others. It's all relative.
One good thing about the atrociously designed software is that you can see the impedance of your headphones from the CC, so that is something to note as well.
You'll most likely want to turn off the Sound Blaster software with headphones, the only thing it's good for is making the Onkyo speakers sounds pretty good (for laptops anyway). The amount of processing it does is unnecessary with headphones, you're better off tuning the EQ.Last edited: Nov 2, 2016 -
Oh nice! Coming from a Note 4 actually. My earbuds are rather neutral which I honestly prefer. Those clear bass are a pleasure to listen at and the soundstage is rather super large. I saw that the Note 4's built in DAC (built in Snapdragon) is rather lackluster so I guess these SABRE DAC in these Clevos are going to unleash their true potential. I also doubt that my current toaster HP laptop has a decent DAC to say atleast lol.
-
Yeah, Qualcomm does not put much effort into DACs (nor do they make particularly good SoCs in my opinion. I think Samsung started using dedicated ones with the S6 since that's where I remember it form, could be wrong though. I came from this beastly Toshiba machine so it's a pretty nice difference.

The note 3 was ok, the sony xperia xz I moved to is more balanced but neither come close to the Sabre

Anyone have luck with the new drivers posted on 10/25 from clevo? I'm getting errors/no connection for USA/ASIA/EUROPE for the mysterious new audio driver -
Nope. Completely broken. Too bad Sager doesn't have them.
-
To my fellow NP8173/P670RS people,
have you seen any gainz in OCing the CPU memory or GPU? What settings do you use? -
The amp makes a huge difference, ive never had a laptop come close to this.
At least on my POS Beats earbuds which honestly sound awful in general. I gotta say they actually sound very crisp and clear on the Clevo where they usually sound muddy and muffled. Im not a big earbuds guy though.
I havent tried my HD650s yet (these are my go to choice for my desktop, connected to schiit dac and amp). -

The new drivers are the Audio driver that is JUST for P670RP6 and you can download it in our website (downloads section), and then the CONTROL CENTER which is for P670RP6-G, P650RS-G, P670RS-G which you can also download from our website.
As for Intel and NVIDIA, don´t use the ones in CLEVO website.
We just uploaded NVIDIA 375.76 which does have fixes, and as for Intel HD, i´m running the latest Beta without a problem Intel HD Beta 15.40.xx.4539 - You can also download from our website.
Let me know if you run into issues!
Also we noticed some flicker and video output problems could be fixed by changing the color setting in the NVIDIA control panel:
color-range option
if its in limited mode it will flicker
in full range its perfect
even the colors are much better
If you install Ubuntu Linux or derivates, you ALWAYS have to change the color options, add the latest NVIDIA drivers ppa, install the NVIDIA driver, reboot, go to NVIDIA control panel and change the color options!! -
Hey Gentech, can I ask where you guys are located. Just wondering how long shipping will take. I'm pretty much located in the Dallas, Tx area and surrounding it.

Any recommendation on how to do a clean install of new audio drivers? Realtek and sb xfi studio weren't so fun on initial install.

Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
1) Grab Revo Uninstaller Free v2.01
2) Run it as admin
3) uninstall the SoundBlaster first but don't reboot when prompted
4) let Revo scan for any leftovers then delete them when they're found
5) Uninstall the Realtek HD Audio Driver but don't reboot when prompted
6) let Revo scan for the leftovers then delete them when it finds them
7) Reboot
8) Install the Realtek HD Audio Driver that you want then reboot
9) Install the SoundBlaster app then once prompted to reboot, ALT-Tab to your desktop
10) Run Autoruns64.exe as Admin
11) Delete the entry renamed updreg.exe by Creative (that is just a registration reminder)
12) EnjoyPartum Somnia, CaerCadarn and Papusan like this. -
Thanks for the help, I'll check those out. Any reason the ones from Sager/Clevo's site shouldn't be used?
The control center which says .86 actually installs .72, a downgrade. I'm running .85 at the moment. Any chance you could upload the newest BIOS, Killer, and sound drivers as welll?
Also are the color and display problems you're talking about only on external displays? I can't change the color range option for the whole display, only for videos. Also, can you comment on overclocking the displays? I've gotten mine to 100Hz but the colors are ever so slightly different which drives me crazy.Last edited: Nov 3, 2016 -
What version does this upgrade to? 375.76?
