The cross conversations and speculation thats been going around concerning usb 3.1, usb type c, and tb3 can be very confusing if not detailed specifically but thank you for confirming that as specific as you did.
And a question to you or other vendors or insiders here that will be able to test or try out these soon even if you don't answer right away these questions I think are important:
Can the 3.1/tb3 combo port be used to charge this notebook when in a low powered state?
And please test the battery life of the new skylake set compared to the former zm and what are the differences if any? The desktop cpu laptops dont hold up that long but I'm curious if the new architecture will improve upon that.
Will there be any other notebooks aside from the DM with tb3?

im sure u can expect the whole skylake line up of clevo to include a 3.1/tb3 post, at least when were talking about the high midrange to highend models
as for battery life, i highly doubt there will be much difference, desktop cpu and highend mobile gpu are still just that, and not really known for either low idle or low load wattage. my bet: battery life will change, if at all, by a max of 10-15 min, thats it.
besides...why is battery life important to you anyways, when u consider such a DTR?

With all due respect please carefully see the way I worded the questions and what the questions are. Those questions are only to be answered by people who will have access to the machines. I said them and detailed them out like that because I want to avoid guessing. Questions like can the laptop be charged with the tb port? and what battery gains with this model? cannot be answered unless you have the device.
@jaybee83 Battery life will ALWAYS play a role in laptop decision making and is one of the things people factor in when making an expensive purchase. I'm not trying to be rude but there you go ...lol I did not want my questions answered with more questions fired back at me and this is why I want them answered specifically by people with hands on access and knowledge with these new machines. -

Sir, in that case, might I suggest you take a look at this laptop? It is renowned to have the best battery life in the market, and is fairly expensive too. It also has the USB 3.1/Thunderbolt 3 port. Just one, since I/O is excellent with that one single port. Not even a power port! Imagine that, sir.Last edited: Sep 4, 2015SierraFan07 and jaybee83 like this. -
jaybee, guessing you meant to say battery life will NOT change?
Having three different Clevo models over the past 10+ yrs (all of them DTRs), the length of any single charge has always been under 80 minutes. That is the price you pay for non-mobile components, non-Optimus video, etc. (i.e. a DTR) running off of a battery.
Agreed. However, most likely there will not be too many folks active on the NBR forums who have access to the machines for quite some time. I believe the response was altruistic in nature, and should be received in the same vein. Once the machines are available to vendors and/or purchased by NBR members, more of this information will be available, and a definitive answer could be given. Until then, this is all still anyone's best guess based on experience with older Clevo models, and the responses given will most likely be from others who are in the same boat but are just trying to help.
I wouldn't normally respond to this since the comment is directed at jaybee. However, it is too general of a statement. Did you by chance mean to say battery life duration is important to *you*? As, I this statement does not apply to everyone.
For me and most of my colleagues, battery life really doesn't play that kind of role our decision for purchasing a laptop. For most of us, we work with an electrical outlet nearby, and treat the battery more like a portable UPS. Just wanted to verify that battery life is not ALWAYS a factor in a person's decision tree as each of us have our own wants/needs.Last edited: Sep 4, 2015SierraFan07, jaybee83 and Samot like this. -

I'll gladly reply to your questions and comments I numbered them to make it easy for you and the readers.
1. Over the years technology has changed and certain chips have become more efficient. One area I would like clevo to improve on is battery life on its products and not just the dtr. On a whole I would like to see clevo shoot for having better battery life on a wide range of their products and its a personal opinion and goal I would like to see accomplished by this company.
2. I hear ya and I do understand why Jaybee said what he said and why you said this but again if you look on that post you will notice that I pointed out that I don't require a answer right away. I simply want those questions to be in the minds of people who in time will eventually have access to that information so they can be answered as fact since by then the actual info and machine will be available for that kind of testing. In other words those questions were not meant to be answered now but I want people to think about that when the time actually comes to pass.
3. Is battery life important to me.... I think battery life is a question to anyone buying a laptop even a dtr. However, it may not be an important deciding factor for everyone though. In my case for ex battery life is at the bottom of the list but most people I know when buying any laptop in the back of their minds they want to know how long it will last unplugged. So to answer you its not a decision maker for me but still an important subject and others will bring it up and ask questions related to that. If you youtube any dtr you will always find someone curious of the battery time.
4. To me thats just based on what I see for ex like I said before at stores or websites or on youtube questions like that do pop up. And I feel like improving the battery life can only help no matter what kind of laptop it is. Let me make this clear in my case I still want the DM even if the bat life is not much different from the ZM but its still a factor because its something most people think about even though it may not be a deciding factor for everyone. its still nonetheless information that most people will know buy the time they buy. -

I have long since known about mbp and this link does nothing for me and is not new info in the least nor is battery a deciding factor so I hope that helps you and again its nothing personal and I wish you and the others I blocked the best in life but right now anyone gang stalkingchallenging for pure debate/foolish type reasons/or with rude overtones will not be responded to from here on out.Last edited: Sep 4, 2015 -
I don't see TB3 on this but if battery life is paramount this is one of the top contenders for sure.
-
Whew
Personally, I think it'd be interesting for true DTRs (especially those with desktop CPUs) to consider treating the battery more like a UPS than a normal battery. I'd be very happy to trade a bit of weight and size -- since I go back and forth with it to the office every day -- for battery length. I need just enough that it stays running for few minutes when the power cord falls out (heh), and stays suspended for some toting around.
In two years of daily use I don't think I've used my current laptop more than 10 minutes unplugged. I'm sure that's not true for everyone, but I bet it's reasonably common for the DTR crowd.SierraFan07, moviemarketing, Bullrun and 1 other person like this. -

For DTR's battery life is not as important but lets not be ignorant here ...It sure doesnt hurt to have more of it. And again its not paramount for me but its still something that people in general will be curious about and its also something Clevos I think can improve on in thier line ups NOT just for DTR's. You never know when you might need that extra bat and having more can't hurt. This is why I guess some people have issues with me because I go against the grain and I have my own Ideas that i'm not afraid to express.
I was even hoping for a switchable mux or something to help for the DM with unplugged life. I mean if the power goes out then laptops are restored to thier basic functions and the least I can get out of a 1800$ device is to be able to finish watching a movie in the event I'm not able to be plugged. If you don't expect more and think outside the box then what improvements will ever be made?MagnumP.I. likes this. -
Understood. Then I'd offer a suggestion. Once the machine has been released, vendors and/or NBR members have them in hand, re-post your questions to the relevant forum/thread. The odds of getting a response from a post 20 pages back are going to be very slim.
You post some valid questions here, but I'm afraid they will be lost in three weeks time. Please ask them again once the machines are made public, and hopefully it will be answered with real-world, observed behavior; thus, providing you (and the rest of us) with the answers most will be interested in.
I guess we can agree to disagree and leave it at that. From my experience, this is not a question I nor any of my colleagues and other DTR acquaintances really care about. In all my years with many different makes/models of laptops, I cannot recall once where the duration of a battery charge entered my mind.
Does this go for the DTR crowd in general? Who's to say. Others are just now starting to post their expectations. I'll leave it to all NBR members to draw their own conclusions.
I disagree. If Clevo introduced better battery life, but at the expense of more weight or less features. I would not be a fan of that decision. In fact, just the opposite. If they could cut the battery life 50% and offer 2 more 2.5" drive bays, an internal slot optical drive or other PCIe x4 drive bays. Sign me up.
I hope you haven't thought I have issues with you. Rather I took issue with the post regarding the generalized statement that "Battery life will ALWAYS play a role in laptop decision making." As I think everyone can agree that is definitely not the case.
With that said, I am focusing all mental faculties on finding out when the P770DM will be released and with what 'Tech Specs'.Last edited: Sep 4, 2015 -
When it comes to machines such as these, being overly concerned about battery life is akin to somebody buying a Hummer being concerned about his gas mileage.Ionising_Radiation and jaybee83 like this.

You have been very respectful in your posting and I hope you find the same with my posting to you so and just so you know lol of course I have no issues with you and whether we agree or disagree we at least share a mutual respect. Also I certainly plan to remind people of those questions if need be but some vendors said they may be able to test units sooner than that and its the reason I posted those. And all in all I think battery life can be improved on without cutting the features that make it shine as a dtr. Even a extra 3omin would be some kind of gain.
For the last time its not about being overly concerned its about me being able to use my imagination and creativity to understand and point out areas that can be improved.
I still want the DM but I'm sure if there was a similar product being offered for a similar price retaining all the features yet has longer battery life I suspect people will be more attracted to the one that has a longer life just for the technical feat alone.... I sure would be lol.
And your comment about the hummer .... There are different types of Hummers and they all range in gas mileage and your wrong some people actually look for certain hummer models that can give them better mpg I live in the Hummer capital of the USA and I was just having a chat about this with one of my neighbors fyi. Okay maybe didn't stop them from buying one I GET IT but don't be so naive to think it hasn't ever crossed anyone's minds or that they dont seek out ones with the most mpg.Last edited: Sep 4, 2015MagnumP.I. likes this. -

Kind of sad to see there's no AMD support, neither on the P870DM ... hopefully they've haven't removed that option entirely from bios. Have some to re-use and 7970M CF suits me just fine.
Not necessary to sacrifice anything, though. Clevo uses quite ok batteries, but there are a few better ones:
Battery test 18650, Summary for all tested batteries
That's not a paper-difference; tested they do actually get 20% higher capacity. More expensive, sure, but it'd make for a nice, additional 'customise option', no? Ordered a set of six and these have just arrived, draining them first. Will see if they indeed outdo the NBR measurements by a healthy margin. Needed a new battery anyway and this was 41% cheaper and with 20% more 'oomph', to boot.
But, really, if you're serious about power-on-the-go; get a decent battery pack. Work every time, for all laptops, can leave at home when not needed and has *nth times the capacity of even the largest embedded laptop battery (which also adds to weight). -
Now if only my credit card had the necessary room in it...

RJTech, I don't know if I am allowed to post a direct link to their website, but I'm not even sure if their website is working correctly right now, if I go to their section for Clevo barebones, the bottom of their page doesn't list everything that they used to, seems broken.
But if you open up a regular barebone, and change the product id number to match 30361, you will see the barebone for the P750DM.
Which I just noticed is the product id that used to be used for the P750ZM, so it may be that RJTech does not intend to sell this barebone just yet.
If I had the money, I would try ordering it now, I need at least 4 more credit card payments before I can try, but if some one else wants to try ordering the P750DM from them, let me know if it works.

I am over due on a new laptop my self, my favorite laptop has to have been my Clevo D900F, and after going through several smaller regular laptops with normal laptop cpus, I have decided that its time for another desktop cpu laptop, especially since Intel will no longer produce socket'd laptop cpus.
Once RJTech fixes their website, I would like to see if they will discount the older P750ZM, as I am not made of money, I will take the P750ZM over the P750DM if the price difference is good enough. (Plus I already have a small mountain of laptop DDR3 ram) -
From what I've seen posted in the forums the P770ZM / P750ZM have been discontinued. If that is indeed the case, availability may come down to finding a reseller with those still in stock.
-
Interesting, I wonder how many P750ZM and P770ZM barebones RJTech has left in their inventory....
And I wonder what my odds are for getting the basic bare minimum of a P750ZM for $900 or less.

So... am I missing something here? I just looked at RJ Tech website as referenced above and the DM is there, available for pre-order etc so it's officially dropped. I understand it's not on the other big resellers websites etc but isn't this the big official reveal for North America that we have been waiting for? I mean I see it looks like you have to apply your own Thermal Compound (I'm kinda confused about that because there's an option towards the bottom to have software and hardware installed for you so I would assume that means having the thermal compound installed as well) I guess I was just assuming this thread/threads would blow up because there's an official ship date for the device etc??

Stop whining baout the price... it is going to be expensive... Honestly with the amount of time you have waited, I would just get it and end of topic lol... Anyways it's up for pre order so price might slightly change... I would wait a bit for the Sager resellers etc to announce and get it from the cheapest option around but no more waiting Micheal! Since dealers like RJTech are not direct importers of Clevo they would not have an exact ETA of the new Skylake models to ship.
Dealers have posted too early of upcoming models for every past generation that I can remember. Of course, this is an exciting time!

People just base things on incomplete internal data sheets, which where meant as basic guidelines and not for public consumption...
The 3 new DMs where all planned with TB3 from the very beginning and nothing has changed.

Sorry, I don't understand, I meant I looked at photos & specs on RJTech website and there is no TB port here? I mean, I can understand that they may mistake specs, but do they also post incorrect photos?
-
I am on my phone and can't see what they uploaded, but TB3 comes in the shape of a USB 3.1 port.
There is also a 'tradition' within Clevo to base refresh photos and speck sheets on the older model and sometimes simply forget to update all of it.
Either way don't worry TB3 is a go!
-
I know that TB3 can be combined with USB port, but I thought standard says it should be Type C port - and there are only Type A ports on photos.
I reckon its possible to make it type A too of course, but it will need non-standard TB cable.
I wonder if RJTech just posted photos of ZM though, I don't see any difference
-
Correct the TB3 port on the DM uses a type-C port.
