I decided to start messing with it again today. I just reset the CMOS again, powered on without RAM, powered down, put the RAM in, and am now sitting in windows 7 idle waiting for it to shutdown. I also decided to move the sodimm to a new slot. Can't hurt to see I guess.

The sodimm is made by Samsung. 16 gb 2133 MHz 260 pin ddr4 etc. CPU-z says the frequency is good. I did some searching around, and I found a few retailers who are selling these sodimms now. They were tough to find a few months ago. I'll probably order another stick even though I have a strong suspicion I'm going to have to get a new board or an entirely new machine. However eurocom wants to deal with it. I won't hear anything from them until Monday.

CMOS battery was mentioned somewhere. There's no reason to replace it. I put it on the meter. Reads 3.2 V. No problems there.

Once the machine fails this time (I'm sure it won't be long now), I'll go ahead and reseat the CPU and GPU. Also, I have not used XTU. I wanted to give the machine 6 months and be sure that everything was stable and playing nice before I tinkered too much. I suppose I can also dig around in the logs while it's running and maybe reflash the bios. I really don't want to deal with eurocom. I don't like not being able to resolve the problem myself.

What does CPU-Z/XTU state the voltage is while it is running hot?

Well, I suppose thanks are necessary for the tip. After resetting CMOS power, powering on without ram, shutting down, and restarting with the module installed, I haven't had a shutdown since. I've been pushing the machine just to see if I could trigger a shutdown all afternoon. I've done stress tests on the CPU and GPU and put in a few hour gaming session. The only thing that still plays on my mind is that I decided to swap the sodimm to a new slot after the boot without it installed. I'll keep running it like it is for now to make sure everything is stable, then revert the module to the old slot and see what happens.

What I'd really like to know is why this worked. It's great that it worked, even if temporarily, but it would be better to know why.

Edit: Placed the sodimm back in it's original slot after testing for 10 hours in a different slot. I got a shutdown after a little over a minute. Oh well. Guess I have to deal with the distributor. At least I know how to keep it running until I can get a fix.

Edit 2: Well... It's dead. That was a pretty short lived solution. I can't replicate the results anymore. All slots are equally worthless now.

I think I will fall love with this babe.
However, 4.6 can't be OCed well enough because of current throttle.
The number in XTU can be increased but doens't work at all.

Well, had a similar problem with another rig and it turned out that a RAM-Slot was defective, to be more specific: the Northbridge-Chip responsible for it was defective.
So this had to be replaced. As your rig is under warranty you can still rma it, right?

Yeah, I can RMA it. It's just a hassle. I'll have to deal with those guys, and their service and support have been pretty subpar since I began dealing with them. That has been my experience at least. Oh well. I still haven't ruled out that it's not the GPU or the sodimm itself giving me trouble. I'm getting tired of spending my time dealing with it though. The problem became exponentially worse after I managed to get it running for 12 hours or so yesterday. Signs really are starting to point to the memory controller though.

I would try to swap sticks in every slot to determine whether a stick or a slot could be defective. If a stick or a slot is faulty then it simply won't boot et voilá!

In my case as long as the defective slot wasn't populated the rig was running like a charme. But that can't be the long term solution, right? ;)

Just did a small test (without the running hot problem) @ 4,400 GHz
XTU Stress test: XTU voltage is 1.131 static > CPU-Z is 1.222 temps 74 degrees
XTU Benchmark: XTU voltage is 1.131 static > CPU-Z is between 1.181 and 1.250 temps 80 degrees

I will do some more tests and show the results when the running hot problem occurs

Unfortunately I only have one sodimm. So I can't perform that test. What I was able to do as an alternative was to boot with no modules installed at all and see if it would shut down on its own. It only took a few minutes before it shut down with no RAM in the machine. After seeing that, I've pretty much given up. And a whole business day has nearly passed and I haven't been contacted by the distributor. They've left a really bad impression on me.

Eurocom. I had a terrible experience with them when purchasing the machine. It worked out after a two and a half months or so. So in the end... I guess that's fine. But the experience was pretty unpleasant. So far I'm disappointed with their tech support/RMA side as well. I expect to be contacted the within a business day when I send an email. To anyone, and especially a business, and even more so on fairly large consumer grade product purchase. Preferably sooner. So far, that hasn't happened, but I'm not rushing to judgement on the support side of their company yet.

End results aside, communication with them has been terrible.

What is this with Batman owners and alcohol? :-/ Are you all teenagers?
Since you tested all of the removable components, Windows, bios and I assume you tried disconecting all of the peripherals (sometimes just having a faulty USB mouse or something connected can cause this type of behaviour), I would say return it. Why would you email them, I would never buy something so expensive from a company that doesn't have a phone line.
Maybe you just spilt your drink on it?

For anyone looking for 16GB dimms, my 750DM came with 2 Samsung 16GB dimms but to get the other two was way too much of a price increase so I decided to wait. I finally found, ordered, received and have tested 2 more modules from http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=D4S16G21SA I paid $90 USD but they're now listed for $85 USD. Pretty good deal. I was unsure when I ordered since I'd never heard of this retailer before, but they came through. Great price and working, brand new, as advertised dimms. They are exactly the same as the dimms that were in my laptop and the serial numbers of the 2 dimms I received were almost sequential (off by about 30 so probably from the same batch). I know finding the 16GB dimms was difficult for a while now so I wanted to put this out there for anyone who was looking. I'm happy with 64GB RAM now!!

**edited** I accidentally said panasonic instead of samsung. I have Samsung DIMMs and these are Samsung DIMMs being sold.

**updated 2/4/2016** These DIMMs are still working perfectly. The price when I checked today is $82 USD. No idea how they're selling them so cheap but they're legit.

Hi, I'm really interested in this rig, but I'm a bit skeptical seeing a desktop platform in a 15,6'' notebook.
Could someone, owner of the i7-6700, please tell me how its temperatures perform (and therefore how good the cooling system of this Cevo model works), at stock clocks, in both standard and gaming use? Which max temperature does the cpu reach, if it can happen some thermal throttling in games, and so on...

I'm still reading several thread pages, but they are really a lot, and until now I found nothing regarding this. Thanks!

I can't give you Temps at the moment but general consensus seems to be that stock voltage is too high. -150 undervolt runs great for most and drops 10c. There's also the issue of max fans vs auto. I game a lot on auto fans and don't have issues. Dragon age inquisition at 1080p maxed etc. Sometimes when my wife isn't in the room I'll max fans and overclock. I think the cooling systems fantastic.

Yeah, I tested without peripherals. Spilled drinks have cost me a lot of time and money in the past, but I haven't spilled anything on this machine yet. In fact I spilled my drink on my macbook pro about 1 week after I received this machine. I just got around to rebuilding it about a week ago. Good timing I guess.

They've been in contact with me today. So far they've been professional and helpful. So no complaints with the support side of Eurocom. There's an offer on the table for me to let them take a look at it in house, but they also gave me a bios update to try. I flashed the new bios and am currently on the machine in windows 7. I'm just waiting for it to fail again and then I'll send it in. The last time I was able to get it running for any length of time, it made it 12 hours. After a manual shutdown, it went back into self destruct mode. We'll see.

Edit: Well, it made it about an hour or so after I flashed the bios update. Now it's exhibiting the same behavior as before. It looks like it's going back in house to be looked at probably.

Not sure if this will be helpful to you or not, but I'm running an i7-6700 at stock clocks. During standard use I usually see temperatures on the CPU at around 38 C. Max temperatures during standard use are around 45 C. Pushing Fallout 4 with max settings at a 2k resolution, I saw max temperatures around 75 C. Average temperatures while gaming are usually around 55-60 C. I have yet to notice any thermal throttling under any circumstance.

Thanks all for the info, they were really helpful! Temperatures seems even better than those in my "old" Clevo P150EM, despite the desktop platform, and I'm happy with that.

Just one question: from what I've read and understood in that review, there is no Optimus support. I mean, no integrated gpu then? But actually the desktop CPUs mounted on this system do have the intel HD graphics, so I don't understand. Does this mean that -not like other Clevo models- even the gpu fan is constantly on? :-\

The lcd panel is wired to the dGPU. The pin out for the iGPU from the CPU does not even exist on the mobo. In other words even if the iGPU was enabled, the iGPU is physically disconnected from producing any video output because the mobo doesn't have physical routes for the output

In regards to the dGPU fan, that would be controlled by how hot the dGPU gets during use and if the system needs to cool down that component.

Thanks for the post. Those modules were suspiciously cheap, but I went ahead and ordered 3 of them. That's the first time I've seen the same stick I already have in this broken machine for sale. Hopefully they're legit and I won't regret the purchase.

Edit: What they're selling are the Samsung 16gb 260 pin ddr4 1.2v CL15 mfr model M471A2K43BB1-CPB sticks. You mentioned panasonic.

I have the 6700K and it's really difficult to make it throttle while gaming, but when using Media Encoder to render a video with After Effects clips and some CUDA filters the temps went up to 99 C and it was throttling 40-50%. Everything on stock. So it depends on what you're doing. Also the non-K should be cooler in theory.

Yeah, I think so too. Either way, I've spent enough time troubleshooting it. I'm going to let support mess with it for a while. It's hardware failure I'm sure. I just don't know which component. And since it's under warranty, I guess it doesn't matter. If it wasn't under warranty that would be a different matter entirely.

It's technically possible to get output from the Intel iGPU via Reverse Optimus (ie Reverse Prime in the Linux module). Basically transferring iGPU framebuffer over PCIE to the Nvidia framebuffer (literally Optimus in reverse).

Don't know why you'd do it on a laptop, but it is possible (doesn't save power or anything)

It's designed as a solution on Desktop computers where you can have monitors plugged into both iGPU and dGPU and drag/drop windows rendered with either GPU across all desktops seamlessly.

Hmmm. Wouldn't this require the iGPU output to be hooked up somewhere? Or can the CPU be told to redirect output down a different path?

Nope, it can be done entirely inside the PCIE bus. Regular Optimus doesn't require the nVidia GPU to have its physical outputs directly wired to anywhere. Most first generation Optimus systems had all video outputs physically wired to the Intel iGPU only (hence why they get a cut-down NVCPL with no resolution/screen options and such).

In fact, Reverse Optimus already "sort-of" works in hybrid Optimus system like the P650 where the external mini-DP ports are driven by the Nvidia GPU.

It's the entire basis of the eGPU over TB3/PCIE concept and why it's so exciting/interesting. You should theoretically be able to connect your eGPU and still use the laptop display, basically taking advantage of how Optimus works.

The other implication, is that the same tech could be translated over to desktop PCs for power-saving purposes (monitors plugged into iGPU/motherboard and the dGPU can be called on for 3D tasks and such). It was done in an unofficial/hacky way with "Virtu MVP" a few years back (Ivy Bridge generation ASRock boards featured it).It worked terribly at the time, but it was the first muxless graphics switching implementation on desktop. Perhaps a bit ahead of it's time.

    Thanks!

Mmm understood. But why that? I mean, is this an unavoidable technical limit (maybe caused by the g-sync technology)?

Honestly I think there are several disadvantages in cutting off the integrated gpu: a lot more power consumption during all activities (thus making the battery use nearly pointless), more overall noise (I figure, because now the gpu fan doesn't activate only when the dGPU is needed), problems in flashing vbios (eventually, it may happen to be needed)...and so on.

Acting this way it seems to me that we go backwards, instead of going forwards.

All interesting stuff. In regards to the reality in doing this in the Batman 2.0, I guess it all depends on what buses are routed/wired to the physical LCD display, and if it would be possible to re-route any video frames to whatever bus the LCD is hooked up to.

You'd have to ask Clevo or the mobo designers. My guess is the cost-benefit of having Optimus on a laptop meant for high-end graphics cards and not known for battery life weighed in on their decision, but only they could tell you for certain.

Today I looked to the official nvidia "G-sync notebook FAQ", and it says:

Q: Does G-SYNC work with Optimus technology?
A: G-SYNC currently does not work with Optimus technology.

As I feared, I guess one of the problems of allowing the use of integrated intel graphics alongside the nvidia card is this, unfortunately...

Is anyone using a notebook stand with the 17'' DM?
Or can anyone reccommend me one?

I'm searching for something within this style:

I want to have the display higher and straight so it improves my posture and is of greater comfort.
A stand like this also allows me to use a dedicated keyboard, which I don't like using with the notebook in it's standard position.

I have yet to find one big and sturdy enough for this notebook, any help would be appreciated.

Use the coolermaster notepal U3.. The angle isn't that high enough but still better than flat! (I prefer flat BTW, returned my U3 as a result!)

I already have a Zalman one which I like a lot, but I'm not searching for a cooler, rather a full on stand like the one on the picture

This was known even before launch of mobile g-sync. This is nvidia we are talking about.

What are some of the power saving tricks you fellows are using to bring up that battery life? Is there any sort of consensus yet? So far, I've seen that lowering the voltage by 100-150 is still stable, is that at stock multiplier, or is some underclocking going on? Any input is appreciated.

-150 at stock clocks works like a charm.

Knowing the intel doesn't work and the nvidia is the always-active card, how is the overall fan noise during standard use (web surfing, music, office etc...not gaming) and video playback? Is it bearable, or annoying sometimes?

I don't notice the fans while I'm doing general tasks. I only notice them when gaming. My wife and I watch amazon prime shows on my p770dm and never notice the fans.

ZM here, but i can tell you that it's silent. Only way to notice the fans is to fire up a game or do some intensive processing.

Looking at buying a p750dm as a workstation replacement, seems like it meets all of my requirements.

However I have one big issue that I cant seem to find an answer to. Can you wake the laptop from sleep using the internal touchpad or keyboard (not including the sleep key combination)?

I've been using alot of notebooks for 20yeasrs., mostly thinkpads (the original IBM not lenovo) and alienwares.
Recently I purchased p750dm and I think it is very good notebook in terms of stability and performance.
Except that for now the fan table just sucks. WIthout Fn+1 (which allows max fan speed), temperature goes too high when I do some graphic works. The automatic fan control suck too much.
New EC or BIOS whichever controls this fan table must be released.

Did u have a look at the stock paste job? Mostly it was done bad or it could be a warped heatsink like in my case. Take a look at the spreading of the TIM.

I can feel with ya. That really s***s! :(

Did you notice any performance drops? I have mine set at -50 and CPU at x42, but if I go higher with voltage offset my 3DMark score drops 300-400 points.

Haven't noticed any ting like that. I'll try firestrike later today and see if it changes when I lower my undervolt. I've been -150 since I received it so don't have a reference for anything else.
