With @Johnksss and @tranquil911 help I have flashed proper vBIOS into 780m, but nothing has changed, sadly. The vga card is fine (gpu-z shows x16@x16 pci-e lanes, thermal (HW) temp shows up, no driver installed though), the issue is somewhere else on the motherboard. Could this be a EC FW / BIOS issue? (even though it has worked once for an hour and suddenly the issue was back, fans were spinning normally). CPU is i3 6098p.

@Meaker@Sager , I have tried to connect some other fans (from a p150/p170 model) and behavior is the same, though I haven't tried to connect CPU fan in the place of the GPU fan just to exclude fan issues. I do not have fan monitoring in HWINFO like p751dm2 has, so that I could see if internal fan monitoring works. If disconnecting both fans the laptop beeps a bit more frequent (with only the GPU fan it beeps as usual). Also, randomly the GPU fan is going max when the laptop boots.

Is there a kind of diagnostics tool or something?
I will fully disassemble it again, I already did this and the motherboard is in perfect visual condition.

No, it's a case of isolating the variable through testing.

    Yes, good point.

What version of HWINFO will report about fan rpm in sensor monitor for p751dm model? Does fan rpm show up without the video driver installed? How to get both temps for GPU [one is with (HW) ] without the driver installed?
Followed some older threads and @Prema said that this issue could be from:

    - GPU/CPU too hot

    - CPU/GPU temp signal lost

    - FAN rpm too low

    - FAN rpm signal lost

Yes, those are the main variables the ECU are looking at.

    Quick update:
    Number of total beeps before shutdown is indeed 22;

    - GPU/CPU too hot (not getting hot physically)

    - CPU/GPU temp signal lost
(since when CPU is getting warm CPU fan spins, if GPU gets hot GPU fan does not spin, CPU/GPU temps show up in HWINFO)

    - FAN rpm too low
(signals gets to the EC controller, both fans produce the same 0.130khz signal at FAN max, measured with a multimeter tool, will measure the FAN controller ICs: AX995SA)

    - FAN rpm signal lost
(not able to monitor this anywhere in the system)

    Swapped FANs and nothing changed.

If the gpu fan is not spinning up when the gpu gets hot that could be your issue.

GPU gets barely warm, and no matter what I do the issue will come up after a minute after I start the laptop.

At leas I found lots of reports of something similar I have, but in my particular case it has been tested with several CPUs and 980m/970m cards.

Then it may be an issue with the morherboard/ECU chip.

So it is definitely a GPU thermal sense issue since the EC does not output a voltage to the FAN controller IC when the GPU heats up. But temp is read via SMBUS and also on the same bus is connected the audio codec, since it beeps I assume the EC SMBUS is functional. If EC SMBUS would be faulty then no beeps would be a result.
The thermal management is found only in the EC FW or also something in BIOS?

Does anyone know how the system reads GPU temp?
GPU temp shows up in HWINFO only as one entry GPU Temperature (HW). This temp is fine 30-40 C, the card is warm when touching.
Is this read like that?: GPU -> SMBUS (through transistors, though here couldn't measure any signal, at least on clock line) -> EC -> LPC bus -> intel PCH
or this temp is read directly from the GPU via PCIe ?

    Hey everybody,

    I am a owner of a p751-dm.
Got a black screen while rendering yesterday, now I can‘t get the laptop to restart. Black screen, beeping and the yellow LED is blinking. Looks like my 970m is done with it. I did some research , also because I have a modded vbios from prema and thought about an failed overclock to be the reason.
Just to verify a few assumptions I have:

-As Optimus is deactivated I cannot get into bios without a mxm graphics card , so no chance to flash/reset Vbios

-I can fit every mxm3.0b card in there as long as it matches tdp limit / fits physically and doesn’t need an additional powersupply

As my reseller Schenker has no maxwell mobile gpus anymore and buying them on eBay is as expensive as buying pascals I searched and found fitting cards. As I am an architect, the p3000 seems nice, has the same tdp as the 970m and mxm3.0b. In a Mail Schenker told me about Pascal Cards „fitting physically but have a different electrical assignment“.
At the same time I read about people upgrading their Clevos with 1060 3.0b‘s. I am a little bit confused.

Also(nooby question incoming) I wonder if it’s plug and playish to upgrade to a new/different mxm3.0b card as I lack an igpu and cannot get to a point where drivers for such a card would be installed?

Help would be deeply appreciated, as I want to keep my lovely Maschine but also see a risk in investing 500$+ in a repair without knowing about the chance of being successful.

OK, so I fixed my machine, now I am proud of it.

Many thanks to @Johnksss and @tranquil911 for the vBIOS for 780m, let me know if I can do anything for you!

Still some upgrades to do since now there is a i3 CPU and only 4 GB of ram and one hard drive. And, intel dual band AC 3160 refuses to work.

So what was exactly wrong with the fan?

Nothing wrong with the FAN, the issue was in temp reading for the EC chip. There were some defect smd components (only measurements showed that) and broken tracks (for the display ports I think). Replaced components, fixed wire tracks and the issue is gone.

Hey guys, need some help here: I enable Fast Boot in the BIOS, boot into windows, then the next time I go into BIOS after restart, fast boot is turned off. So basically when I turn it on it turns itself back off. Any suggestions on how to prevent it from auto reverting?

Also there is no option for enabling fast boot in the control panel (I saw it before in the circled section, but not anymore):

Boot option 1 - Windows boot manager
    Boot option 2 - disabled
uefi mode, Windows 10 EDU on 950 pro ssd. And then 2 other hdd drives for data storage only.

Btw, windows usually fails to restore from hibernate with error status 0xC0000225 (from event viewer) - I suspect they are related.

    Hello Everyone:

I just have a couple of questions. I originally bought my P771DM with 256GB Samsung SM951 PCIe M.2 SSD (Primary OS) and a 512GB Samsung 850 Pro SATA III SSD (Storage) option. It's been 3 years and its still going great, but would like to add additional storage and looking for some advice on the recent compatible fast and reliable storage drives. Any suggestions on Brand and Model is appreciated.

Secondly, one of the speakers has crackling noise occasionally, especially when the volume is high. I tried driver updates and still have some issues. Is it hardware related and what are my replacement options?

    Thanks for any help!

    Odaku

My speakers broke just under a year after purchase. Luckily it was still under warranty so they replaced them. So in your case it's possible the speakers are dying. I know Eurocom will have replacement speakers for that model. Or try contacting your particular reseller and see if they have parts.

Nvme drives: Samsung 970 evo/pro. Hp EX920 might be cheaper.

    @Prema Hi,
I am using a P771DM-G since the past 3 years and now I want to undervolt the CPU and overclock the 970m too. I have been trying to contact you but have not been successful. Could you please help me out with a copy of your bios and vbios? It would mean the world to me. I am ready to pay for your service too. Please reply.

Both of those can be done a fair amount without. Have you experimented with XTU and MSI afterburner?

Yes I have been using both the utilities since day one. Now I am looking to push both the 970m and 6700k harder.I live in India so I need the fans to spin to 100% too. Prema bios has tons of options that I would love to experiment with. If I knew about Prema and his work earlier I would have bought my rig from a partner of his rather than getting it from Scan.

Right now it is running at a -160 mV at a 42x multiplier on all cores.
It's more important for me to overclock the 970m since it does not cross 70 degrees ever even with the fans capped at 80%.

MSI afterburner is no good with the bios locking the voltages and the clock speeds.

Yeah, you will need a mod vBios. But you talked also about push your 6700K harder. ThrottleStop is a good choice. If you want to test it out... Disable XTU in Services or Autoruns.exe.

I was thinking about that but wanted to be able to push my fans to 100% before attempting a higher clock.
    What do you recommend?

You can use Fn+1 for max fan speed when needed. I like ThrottleStop. You can add in 4 power profiles (different clock speed) and change power profiles with a simple key command on the fly.

Yeah, it runs pretty stable. I do not need more CPU power. Just the GPU now, and I am really looking forward to maxing it out since I have heard that it`s a beast and equals a stock 980m without any thermal throttling.

No, it runs very stable holding the clock speed without any thermal throttling. I have no idea why but it runs very cool. Never seen it cross 70 after I re-pasted it.

I have a copy of a modded 970m bios by svl7 & Johnksss which was originally hosted on tech inferno. If cool with @Johnksss i can email it to you

    Nvidia GTX 970m - 'OC edition' rev0

970m's are a fun card for messing around with, the pair i had in a GT80 responded well to voltage increases and would match stock 980m sli benches
