Does anyone else have a problem with the heatsink? there is little to no contact when just using liquid metal on the cpu die but the GPU has good contact. I tried using 2 layers of IC graphite pads, it improved but i believe te perfromance could drastically improve with just Liquid metal. I really need the cooling performance to max out single core performance.

You could see if you could source a taller lid after a delid you do reduce the height of the IHS.

    Yes, same here.
I tried to lower the heatsink itselt for a bit, removed screw holders and this gave a little improvement. I think it is because the heatsink itselt reaches the MB screw holders and heatsink needs a serious adjustment on all 4 corners. I would do that rather than adding extra shims or higher CPU IHS.

Extending the IHS is just adding s thicker copper layer rather than adding a thermal interface so should not be too bad in comparison.

Feeling very disappointed with my P750DMG. It's only 3 years old and It's now had a major GFX card failure. It's been in for repairs with Metabox for over a month, and it turns out to be a $600 repair.

980m is a rotten card. It lack needed VRMs (People have soldered on the 3 missing MOSFET chips to help it to survive). I hope Metabox will do the same for your card. Or you risk run into the same once again. I mean all other 980m cards outside Clevo brand have exactly the same flaws. Put the blame on Nvidia.

As far as I know all they've done is replace the card with a new one.

I would ask if they could solder missing VRM from your broken card (If they still works) or new one. But I'm not sure if they will do that.

I tried asking them that, but they are unable to do it. I don't think it's something I'll risk doing myself, either, as I've never soldered anything before.

My friend has a 9 year old gaming laptop that's never skipped a beat.

Hopefully I get at least 3 more years..

You need a station to do it properly as poor contact has it's own risks with the chips.

Well the next thing I guess I'll be doing is trying to sell it. No point keeping such a poor investment that's bound to fail again within a few years. It isn't worth it. I just hope others who may be on the fence about buying one of these learns from my mistake and stays away.

And no more Nvidia for me either - In desktops or laptops. I'm finished with them. I've never owned an Nvidia card that wasn't the first PC component to fail.

AMD do tend to have over engineered power stages in desktops at least.

    I bought a razor core x and installed a friends 1080ti. Motherboard is P775dm1-g with 6700k and gtx980.

When i connect a get a pop up. "Thunderbolt device functionality might be limited" and no devices under device chain but i do see the Core x in device manager under USB devices.

Dose my motherboard have the correct thunderbolt 3 port?

    Thanks

    Hi all,

I'm not a PC expert or a gamer, just an engineer who needs a fast computer for CAD work. I have some dumb questions about a laptop I bought used a few years ago.

CPU speed (especially single thread) and disk i/o speed are very important. I do long modeling runs where the CPU will max out for hours.

    Specs:
    • Xidax/Clevo P750DM-G
    • i7 6700k
    • 32GB DDR4 2133MHz RAM
    • 2x128Gb NVME PCIE SSD Boot drives in raid 0
    • CUSTOM PremaMod Nvidia 970m MXM 3.0 upgradable graphics with 6Gb GDDR5
I recently had to reinstall Win 10 from scratch (from a USB drive) so I had to reinstall a bunch of drivers. I got most of them here:
    https://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-servi...sp?Lmodel=P7xxDM/P7xxDM-G&ltype=9&submit=+GO+

Ok, now for the dumb questions: :D

    1) CPU-Z says the BIOS is AMT 1.05.05 so I assume this means stock BIOS and not Prema, or could it still be Prema? How can I tell?
    2) If BIOS is stock then what are my options for overclocking and/or undervolting?
    3) How do I use the custom video BIOS which is supposed to be there?
    4) Is the Prema Mod BIOS on the video card itself or on the mobo? If the former, then what if I decide to upgrade the video card?

    Thanks in advance :)

    Rick

My laptop shut down unexpectedly today and now won't turn on. If i hold the power down the power led flashes green continually but that is all.

Any idea what the fault is?

    Thanks

Does the laptop fans spin/keyboard light up or just the led is blinking?

Try removing one of your ram's and reseat only one of them also try various combinations with the ram slots and the ram.. Hopefully it'll get fixed or it might be a drive issue..

I've tried everything at the moment. Had the cmos battery out for a few hours, battery in and battery out. I do believe the problem is most likely the charger as its not charging the battery and if the laptop detects a problem with the charger it stop the laptop from turning on as its a gaming laptop. Any idea where i can buy a spare charger from in the uk?

Thanks.. i realised pc specialist who supplied the laptop also do the power supplies.. hopefully I'm right in thinking that is causing the issue.

Bad charger or something related to this will prevent it from powering on at all if the battery is dead.

Not sure if anything has changed, but did anyone have a working Thunderbolt 3 firmware update for pre-2015 Oct batchP75xDM?
Some comments on forum seems to imply some resellers may have it, but I've been unable to find any beside Thunderbolt update v16 this one, which isn't working on early models.
    My DeviceID is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1575&SUBSYS_11112222&REV_00
Current firmware is v8, which triggered an alert from the Thunderbolt driver that the firmware needs update to function normally.

I recently got a thunderbolt/uisb type-c portable display but the computer can't seem to detect it through the thunderbolt port. The display is designed to run with 1 cable only (power and video signal in 1) through the type-c/thunderbolt port but i'm forced to use a hdmi-mini hdmi cable and a type c cable to power the display. Does anyone know how to activate or troubleshoot the thunderbolt port? the device can't be detected, thanks!

Did you route a displayport signal to the thunderbolt port in the bios as per the manual.

i also have an older problem that i had a workaround. i have delidded my CPU and used liquid metal thermal paste (conductonaut) for the TIM. But the CPU die and the heat sink doesn't seem to make contact when i used conductonaut. i can verify this because the streaks of liquid metal i made on the cpu die and copper heat sink remain untouched, still seeing all the strokes i made even after installing and removing the heatsink again. Is there anyone else having the same problem? will this problem be resolved by getting another heat sink? Now to make contact i use an IC Diamond Graphite pad.

    Hello,

Just want to confirm your aware that delidding consists of separating the oem heat spreader from the cpu die, cleaning up the old TIM and bond/glue, applying liquid metal on the die and placing the heat spreader back on top aka relidding.

The heatsink will not have the required death to make contact with the bare die. If you want to full hardcore one could shim out the factory heatsink to allow contact with the bare die.. How ever you run the risk of applying to much pressure on the die and cracking it

@Prema Any chance of purchasing your fine modded BIOS for this laptop? I've recieved one secondhand (Actually, an X711), and modded it as high as it can go with hardware (7700k, GTX1080 and 1080p75 G-Sync, and a watercooler), but the BIOS is still locked down tighter than anything I can think of to analogise the lack of features Terran's Force enables in their BIOS.

I also have a P750ZM I'd like to mod, but I have other issues with that preventing BIOS work.

@Meaker@Sager Without the watercooler attached (but with its considerable thermal mass), I'm mostly stock on the processor, 4.5-4.8GHz with -.1V and DDR4-3000 running 16-18-18-18-43.
I want to wrap up burn-ins and checking out the thermal interfaces across the non-die parts before really taking it to the limits. I also have some carbon pad thermal interfaces coming in, and some new copper shim material I'll be adding to the waterblock (soldering, not pasting).

My waterblock was designed for the p775tm1 with the 2080, but my math checked out and it works a-ok with the 1080.

So now i got the 1070 zotac MXM working with no errors, last memory chip soldered, nvtool pass with no errors, but the p750dm will still keep beeping and shut down afer 1 minute anyway no matter what vBIOS I would flash. Can it be because of EC firmware version? It works fine with cards like maxwell/kepler, but not this 1070. Resistance on the MXM temp SMBUS looks fine.

    Currently:
    BIOS version 1.05.11, dsanke mod
    EC version 1.05.04

Tried the 86.04.2A.00.26, 86.04.2A.00.27, but this was before I fixed the card VRAM, I will try these again, as I remember it posted with artifacts for both and EC panic still persisted, thought it was because GPU memory error.

Yes. Maybe there are some BIOS settings which could help?

Keyboard backlit changes, so EC SM is functional.

Latest update, got the card working, the fact is that gecube cards are not fully compatible with normal laptops, had to do extra mods for it to work.
Card now works fine, will have to finish modding heatsink, for now there is no vrm cooling, but soon will finish.

Thanks @mirt81, your vBIOS works fine as non gsync.

So you needed to hardware mod the card? If so please share.
