I replied only to those I replied to, and I explained best I could what I explained. I saw your original post having things I could have corrected, and I did, and you kept trying to tell me I was wrong, but your proof did not stand up.

I know enough about this machine that I should be able to help people out with their choice to buy or not. I threw your own question back to you, it was not my question. If you find the question I asked foolish, it is your own question you should find as such.

Still not able to get my phoenix to boot...after two whole days. Tried the NVRAM method. Switched the RAM multiple slots. Took out the m.2 drives and 2.5 SSDs and reseated them. Took out the system and CMOS battery MULTIPLE times...nothing.

Any crazier/slightly more invasive methods you guys recommend? Sheesh. All because I removed RAM... XD I can't find anything in the manual or any online manuals for the clevo DM series that can help. Should I send it in for repairs or take it to a specialist?

For those curious, all I did was put in faster ram then the current bios could detect so it didn't work. So I switched back and still nothing. I've tried most methods listed here and still nothing.

The RAM I had is perfectly fine (samsung 2133MHz 32GB/4x8), and windows was configured out of the box besides initial setup. Any other suggestions or does this normally take eons? :p

Shuffle mixed memory modules around in the slots...always switch it on in between...then "force it off with a long power button press...Clevo's current SPD NVRAM table is a joke that's all...

How long did you wait at boot after cmos reset with your old old ram sticks?

When I switched CPUs on my P751 I had to cmos reset and first time booting took like 1~3min before screen even turned on telling me cmos battery was removed. I had always turned off before because I thought it was broken... (no screen, sound, fans)

( grew a couple white hairs from thinking I had broken my laptop, not kidding! And I'm in my early twenties )

Remove Battery, Remove CMOS Battery, Remove Power cord. Let it rest without everything for an hour and or try to switch it on like that to drain all the power.

Dunno if you did that already, because I'm in edit mode and can't read: did you start without or with only one module mounted?

Isn't there a key combo for... uuhm dang how it's called in technical english.. deep power drain? Had sth like that with my AW R1 on the hotline. Removed Battery and Cord and pressed a key combo for a full unload of all components.

I cant check right now but you have to hit the FN key and the button to the right of Numlock to open the Light options and see if you can make changes there.

I think for laptops the module for g-sync is built onto the gpu. For desktops the monitor you buy has to have a g-sync module. I think the solution (which I'm doing) is buying a 4k screen for the g-sync ready FHD model and switching the panels just to see if it actually works or not. Unfortunately I don't think the 4k model comes with g-sync enabled GPUs but maybe it's just software based. Once my panel comes in I guess I'll try it to see if it works or not.

The gpu AND the monitor has to be gsync enabled fot it to work. For external monitor, you have to buy a gsync monitor.

I believe the P870DM does not have G-SYNC:
    http://www.clevo.com.tw/clevo_prodetail.asp?id=885&lang=en
    17.3” (43.94cm) QFHD (3840x2160) 16:9 panel, 4.0mm

    The P870DM-G does have G-SYNC:

    17.3” (43.94cm) FHD (1920x1080) 16:9 panel, 4.0mm

Yea I kept debating between those two 1 TB SSDs and two cheapo 1 TB mechanical drives. I said screw it! Might as well.

How long did it take for your build to get to ship prep?

What did they replace? If they accidentally swapped your GPU to a non-Gsync variant *OR* if they left out the BIOS key for Gsync (or if you have the 4K screen) you would not have Gsync. You should contact them about it.
Do note, as far as I know, a GPU designed for internal gsync isn't required for using an external Gsync monitor. For example, my 780Ms can use external gsync. Internal gsync requires both the gsync-enabled cards and a BIOS key and a monitor registered in the BIOS key.

Not to question what you just said, but have you tested your 780ms for g-sync yourself? It would clarify my question about my p870dm (4k) that I want to use an external g-sync monitor with. ( I've emailed CEG but haven't heard back yet)
    thanks

GPU was changed out, GTX 980 for GTX 980. As far as Im aware all 980's support G-Sync.

Chassis model number references the G-Sync model and the BIOS states the motherboard is G-Sync.

    I will call them tomorrow.

I'm seing a strange behavior of my CPU - frequency jumps like a rabbit, from 1.2 to 4 GHz. Temps are fine, about 40-45 at idle, what can it be? It seems others got a flat line at their chosen frequency.
    XTUweird.jpg
it happens with all sets of parameters I have tested - default (adaptive) voltage, 1V static, 1.15V static, also those same voltages with other parameters as suggested by Mr.Fox.
Also the voltage seems to not be static even when set to static - it varies from x to about x+130mV from its set value.

/edit Can Win10 be the reason? When I installed Windows 7 I also saw voltage changing even while being set to static, but frequencies were perfectly fine.

/edit2 Solution found. Windows 10 "balanced" power plan was constantly trying to throttle the CPU which created stutters in my apps and games.

Temps that raise and lower frequently seem to be normal on the 6700k from my experience. It runs very cool stock prob mid 40s at idle until you delid and use CLU or something other than the stock paste. After that you will see mid 30s and the erratic temps will smooth out quite a bit. Either way though you are still way in the safe zone and nothing to worry about.

Good info on the windows 10 power plan issues.

I should have believed the posts about crappy killer network products. I had random disconnects with my killer adapter 1535. I put now an intel AC 8260 into the laptop and it´s running without a problem now. I will never ever order killer again. Also, the killer software uses a significant amount of cpu cycles if you look into task manager.

    I basically am an anti-killer-network evangelist. I don't know why ya'll didn't listen D=
The problem with them has been that they "may or may not work". Kind of like buying an ASUS laptop. It "may or may not work". When it works well, bim bam boodabing, you got a great card. When it doesn't work... you don't want it to not work.

There is no real rhyme or reason with them working or not. I've heard of people complaining their home networks won't work for the life of them, but their neighbour's network does, or their parents' network does, or even the coffee shop down the street does.

Got the same cover as in quoted message with my 970m SLI setup. Master and Slave GPU temps were 60 and 70 after about 5 minutes into Heaven benchmark. Repasting didn't change anything significantly, so I remembered this post and then what Prema suggested

After removing orange parts temperatures are 60 and 62 instead of 60 and 70 with the same test duration.
Very big thanks to Prema for pointing this out.

That is a non-g-sync GPU (MXM board is different) in a system with g-sync system BIOS.
You will need them to replace the GPU again with the g-sync version.

Thanks for the clarification. So far this laptop has been nothing but a nightmare...

I guess I've just been delt a crap hand.

I didn't realise the GTX980 came with the option for non g-sync so that's news to me.

    Thanks again.
