Unfair to mobile users, when on a good day a 980ti can be gotten for less than a 970m,Feels like they just haven't gotten the way to kill mxm but have it on their shortlist.Intel and ngreedia are fighting for joker position, tried hard to implement BGAware on desktop aswell, and still got away with it in the less powerful segment.

@Kpaxx if we're lucky and a big if we may get kabylake on the current z170 chipset but won't be able to rip it's max benefits.

After checking the service manual I fear that using a delidded skylake without putting the heatspreader back on will be not worth it. I would have to remove the mainboard and modify the backplate of the socket.

Are there data that compare the temps of a delidded skylake with and without heatspreader? I didn´t find any on the net. I would imagine that getting rid of the heatpsreader and making direct contact between cpu and heatsink and using CLU would be the best solution. I wonder how many degrees one looses when having the heatspreader-sandwiched in between.

To answer an earlier question you mentioned about my delid. I did in-fact have the heatspreader on. Due to work and vacation, I could not reply until now.

As for temperature decrease after delid and applying CLU to each layer with IHS on, you lose between 12-17C depending on application and your contacts.

For a better example, my machine never hits above 90C (this is the point when fans actually kick in during Prime95 on Small FFT tests, in which drops to 86C after they turn on).

Since its kinda clamped in there, you don't have to mess with the IHS at all after cleaning and putting it back on.

    EDIT:

Without charger: Idle temperature is 23C.
With charger. Idle temperature is 32C.

Hey guys. I have a hard time trying to make the right setup.

What do you think about the thermal paste?

The main use of this laptop is gaming and programming. Should I get the samsung 950 pro instead?

This setup is from CEG, because its alot cheaper than mysn and they dont want to pricematch :/

If you buy with a single GTX 980 you cannot SLI later unless you sell the 200W 980 that comes with your computer and buy two of the 180W 980s when they are released. You might just want to wait a few weeks to see if 980 SLI gets announced at CES.

The CPU will be upgradable to kaby lake which will still be quad-core. We will not be getting the HEDT processors on this laptop. Maybe if a P570WM successor comes out in 2017.

The thermal pastes you have chosen for CPU+GPU are fine.. As for GPU, the single 980 is fine... If I were to get the P870DM, would be my choice... SSD/HDD wise, I would buy without and install your own... Will be much cheaper that way... I would personally get a 1TB HGST 7200rpm HDD + 512GB M2 950Pro and you should be sorted!

theyre both rated well, drive city averages to 1.35 based on 1338 customer reviews, whereas BUILT Direkt sports 1.0 based off 218 reviews.

grading system ranges from 1.0 as best possible and 6.0 as worst possible grade (derived from german school grade system :p )

btw, u guys should go ahead and check out this price comparison search engine:

"No scheduled delivery date available at this time."

Went from scheduled to be delivered today to pending..AGAIN.

I do not understand what is going on , this is the second time this has happened, the place of delivery is my work which is open all day. No FedEx truck came by at all. I've gotten packages from UPS and USPS perfectly fine.

At this rate I won't be having a laptop.

Looking for a list of todos when getting a new P870DM w/GTX 980. So far I have:

    1. Under volt processor a little to reduce temps, especially if OCing.
    2. Mr Fox's panel removal mod. Is everyone doing this - removing those black panels on the bottom cover?
    3. Is the default software enough for light OCing? (or do we need Intel XTU/MSI Afterburner/NVidia inspector etc?)
    4. Check BIOS and update for new EC - does the current release include this?
    5. Update to Prema as soon as it releases.:)

Any other obvious things to do for a new owner?

I'll be adding 2 M2 drives in RAID - does Macrum Reflect or something similar work well to image the spinning boot drive over to the SSDs in RAID?

    1) You should undervolt whether or not you are overclocking. The default voltage is way too high.
    2) I don't know about that
    3) j00 need XTU if using the stock BIOS, unless you have the magical Mythlogics BIOS
    4) You can find BIOS updates for barebone CLEVO P870DM/DM-G here, but not EC updates there though: Clevo P870DM-G BIOS Mirror
    5) Good luck waiting, it hasn't even been finalized as an official release for EUROCOM so don't expect anything soon for the public. I gave up on waiting on this PREMA BIOS.

Indeed, if I was gonna buy a P870DM right now, my first choice would be Mythlogic since they have a custom BIOS that has a lot of extra features to customize the CPU clocks speeds, FSB, and what not and it's ready.

If you don't mind waiting a little bit, my next choice would be EUROCOM since they will have the Prema BIOS first.

I wouldn't recommend any other as they all have stock BIOS which means it is gonna be a looooooooooooooong wait till we get the public Prema BIOS. I feel my laptop is paralyzed without a custom BIOS. I tried so hard to get the Mythlogic BIOS but no luck......

Actually one more question for now. :) To add a SATA drive, do you need to remove the GPU or is there some other access to add SATA drives?

no it's super easy, you just remove the back panel, and you find to bays for the SATA drives, they are right there infront of you even a kid can do it.

Only if you want to add an m.2 SSSD, you would have to remove the keyboard, which is again, super easy. there is one screw that holds the keyboard, you remove it, then there is a small hole near the CPU which need to press with a sharp object like a screw driver and the keyboard pops open so you have access to the m.2 SSD slots and the 2 other RAM slots.

It was out for delivery Thursday and again today meaning it was on the fedex truck onto the destination here about 20 miles away from the fedex office. I emailed both Eurocom and FedEx just now and if I don't have a reply by morning, I'll call them. I'd rather just pick it up at this point, it cannot be weather since the weather here is fine.

Helped me tremendously. Sadly as expected Keyboard is just way 2 small.. Would me almost impossible for me. I guess Ill have to stick to the waiting game and see which company will finally come up with a 17 or 18" and its proper size keyboard that could be upgraded if need be and that can have all the specs this and msi can have ( cant do msi, their NO palm rest and right side mousepad makes it impossible for a disabled person to use it :/ )

dude I can type better on my Mac Book Air 13" than I can type on this piece of trash Taiwanese keyboard.

I've had the keyboard replaced as well because the first one had random keys flying left and right when you press them. Flying is in literally flying off like there was some devil in the keyboard so I would have to spend a lot of time fixing the key back in its place, then it would pop out again after a while.

I paid $6000 USD for my laptop but it has a 1 dollar keyboard.

Ths MSI GT80 looks even worse, looks like a disabled person really, trackpad on the right, low ot empty space in the middle, just looks funny. And that mechanical keyboard will collect dust and dirt like no tomorrow due to its raised keys.

I have no issues with keyboard and can safely say my tap-typing skill works very well here. Also have played CS:GO and a few other games with no issues on it. Just need the right elevated desk or chair for arm position.

I don't see anything wrong with the keyboard on this one either. Would it be nicer if it was an inch wider? Yeah, probably so... bigger is always better with just about everything. But, I do not find this one to be particularly worse than any other laptop keyboard I have used before. It works great for me. It feels good and looks good. And, I like it better than the one on the P570WM. At least the FN and Delete keys are in the correct locations. I've had the P570WM for a year and still haven't gotten used to those keys being in the wrong places.

Edit: @ssj92 - I did not see your message when I posted this. I added the quote on edit. No, they are not the same and I like this one better. They are the same width, but otherwise a different keyboard. I really like how the new machine has the magnetic keyboard feature... really sweet. Whoever thought of that was brilliant.

Just received mine. BIOS is 1.05.03 but anemic feature wise... Have to wait for the Prema magic :)

The Windows 10 installation was interesting as I have the 4k screen and you need really good eyes as the text is very tiny ;-) I switched from 250% to 200% and enjoy the good speaker system. I had to fix the WLAN cabling as it has to go below the card as my keyboard could not snap in at the top due to the cables... After reading about all the issues with the latest nvidia driver troubles I will stay on the version that was installed by Microsoft and will wait as I do not like BSOD on my work laptop. And I am busy with a course right now so I will give them a few more days to fix it ;-)

Is it normal that I could not install the Intel Management Engine software?

It may be the version installed by Windows is newer than the one you were manually attempting to install. That will produce an error. Unfortunately, the error does not always tell you a newer version is already installed for some reason. You have to look in the log file to see the reason, which is too much hassle.

Is it showing up in Device Manager correctly? If so, you're probably already set.

I think version 11.0.0.1173 is the latest driver. It shows up in Device Manager as 11.0.0.1172.

Imagine the slide show gaming in retina-detaching 4K @ 60Hz on a system that cannot maintain 60FPS in 4K using high quality settings... then slow it down some more with G-SYNC.

    Oh, the thrill!

I don't think so, it still hasn't even been delivered to the FedEx location I was supposed to pick it up from. Looks like my laptop is stuck on some FedEx truck driving back and forth.

I had contacted FedEx in the morning and they said they let the FedEx station know of my concern but so far it doesn't seem to have helped and neither has the hold at fedex location option.

You might want to escalate to the district manager, I had a situation where a package was in limbo like this, it turned out they lost it and were stalling to find it, they did finally find it :)

how do you have BIOS 1.05.03? Which reseller did you buy your laptop from?

The latest BIOS I can find is: 1.05.02

PS: This is the Intel Management Engine Interface v11.0.0.1166, that's the latest official one if you don't like installing stuff from Station Drivers (which I never trust)

    Mr. Fox,
It's been about a hundred posts, and I apologize but could you repost or message me that anti Windows 10 spyware stuff again? Think I will just suck it up and upgrade.
Thank you sir...again for all yours and Prema 's work.

Finally got it! Tore it apart and put my components in! IC Diamond removed, Liquid Ultra applied. ;)

BTW if anyone ordered an SLI setup from Eurocom, you may want to take a look at your bottom cover. Mine had the silver aluminum pieces applied and the secondary vent closed, I removed them thanks to this pic from @Prema :

Oh and the stock BIOS is extremely limited. I had more options on the Acer I was fixing the other day.. I don't think I can even install windows 7 due to no CSM option, going to mess with it soon.
