I'm also in the process of trying to decide from whom to purchase a P870DM. So, when you say that Mythlogic's customer service sucks, are you talking about pre-sales, post- or both?
-
Thanks for the quick responses.
@Firebat246, do you use two power adapters? It sounds like mythlogic helped you with the overclock, that's pretty cool. Did you just call them and ask for help? -

1) I had a friend who had ordered a P870DM-G from Mythlogic (Mythlogic Phobos 8715S), he then made a mistake by flashing the latest stock Clevo BIOS thinking it was better only to discover that now his BIOS has 0 customization options or overclocking options. So he thought no big deal, he contacted their technical support thinking they would send him the Mythlogic BIOS. The head of tech support named Josh started asking him lots of questions regarding his order number, serial number, name of the person who paid for it, etc. It was like an interrogation. He then explained that it was a gift so he doesn't have the order number but he gave them the serial number and even a screenshot of it from the actual laptop.
After 3 days with no response, he calls Josh who was very rude and seemed annoyed as to why he was calling him. Then Josh said that they need time to send him the BIOS.
1 week later, nothing, so he emails again.... no reply for 1 weeks, then he emails and calls, he was given the same BS about they need time to compile the BIOS in a package that he could install......
2 weeks later, nothing, then he finally gave up and is still running the stock CLEVO BIOS 1.05.02
I know the guy personally he lives here in Dubai as well.
2) Before purchasing my Eurocom Sky X9, I thought of getting a Mythlogic again, I called their sales team and some dude answered who didn't have an upbeat tone or showed any interest to my business as a potential customer, I felt like I was talking to a robot.
I then asked how long would it take from the time of order till you actually ship the system, he replies, 15 business days. I'm like whaaaat? why so long? he says we are swamped with orders.
Apparently they have so much arrogance now that they have so many orders/business coming through. I for one will never want to deal with this company EVER,
Then I ordered my Eurocom Sky X9 but not through Eurocom directly, but through HIDevolution as they are good partners with them, so they gave me a discount as I am an NBR member and actually even got the system for me cheaper than if I would have bought it from Eurocom directly.
This way, I got the Eurocom Sky X9 with the PREMA BIOS preinsalled AND covered under warranty, along with the superb warranty/support of HIDevolution and fast shipping / excellent quality checks, the best of both worlds really. See:

They did help me Yea... They wanted to make sure I was getting no throttling so we sat night after night tweaking and testing. Not only are they swapping out my 980 with the 980m sli... They are going to tune my machine to the over clock I want and stress test it before sending it back to me.. With the newest prema bios and vbios.
edit: keep in mind the tuning and over clocking they are doing for me is a courtesy. They want to be sure I'm completely satisfied with the extra power I came to expect. Yes I am using dual psu's.

Your friend's story sounds nasty - definitely, not something I'd ever want to go through. It's why I'm agonizing over choosing a reseller ... and, I know, you can do all sorts of research, pick what appears to be the best choice, and still have things go south. And then we have @Firebat246, who, in a post immediately following yours, appears to have had a very satisfactory experience with Mythlogic. It's driving me crazy! Can't a reseller either be all good or all bad? And as it happens, I also spoke with someone from Mythlogic's sales team ... must have been the same guy. He definitely didn't make me feel warm and fuzzy about purchasing from them. I repeat, it's driving me crazy!
As for Eurocom, they also seem to get mixed reviews ... and they definitely seem way pricey. For example, I configured a P870DM-G from Eurocom (i.e., the Sky X9) and it ended up to be over $700 more than an identically configured one (at least as much as I could make it) from XoticPC ... and Eurocom's version did not include Prema's BIOS, so that would not explain the price difference. Sorry for rambling ... did I mention that all of this is driving me crazy?Last edited: Feb 23, 2016Sebastiao Liparizi Neto likes this. -

I asked Eurocoma price match, and they made me the same price as Mythologic. Just ask them! Also the system was ready to ship on the day after as where Mythologic takes like 20 business days (well, they take their time to do a very welcome burn in tests and benches before shipping to you, but I still prefer Eurocom).Spartan@HIDevolution and tgipier like this. -

Hopefully whatever exclusivity deal Prema has with those resellers expires soon and we can all get it publicly.
I'd even pay to get the BIOS directly from Prema and bypass the whole reseller "gate". It's amazing how little BIOS access the stock Clevo's have. You can't do much of anything except change the boot order of your drives with it.
Or better yet, maybe Clevo themselves could release a BIOS that gives you more flexibility.iaTa, GTVEVO, Sebastiao Liparizi Neto and 4 others like this. -
While I'm waiting for my subconscious to decide where I should purchase a P870DM, I have a question about SSD's and thermal pads ...
My understanding is that thermal pads are not typically installed by the reseller when purchasing this machine configured with an m.2 SSD. And, I was actually told by one reseller that the pads do more harm than good. Does that seem reasonable, or is it good idea to install them? -
Did he explain how it would do harm ?
-
Netherscourge Notebook Consultant
I got mine configured with a SATA M.2 Card (850 EVO) and I don't have any heat issues.
I think it's the PCIe M.2 cards that have the heat issues? Not sure.
I don't have a heat spreader on my SATA M.2 SSD and my system runs fine. -
Oops, I should have specified that I'm thinking about a PCIe M.2 card ... either a Samsung 950 Pro, or perhaps wait until OCZ/Toshiba releases the RevoDrive 400 and then decide between the two.
-
The harm followed from the heat being retained in the area of the SSD (and consequently near the motherboard) rather than being dissipated ... at least that was my understanding of what he said.
-
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I asked HIDevolution to install them for me then I removed them because someone here told me that all they do is delay the heat but at the end of the day, once they have the heat, there is nothing blowing on them to cool them so it makes no difference really.
I never experienced any throttling with my 950 PROs temps are just fine unless all you wanna do is copy tons of TB of data all day long which I doubt anyone does. For casual use or even power user scenarios, the temps are just fine -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There is a natural heat dissipation into the chassis which is cooled as it is sitting on your desk
If anything connects to the motherboard then the motherboard has air drawn accross it and can act as a heatsink (It does for all the power chips on it for instance which will have a large ground pad on them).

So I've been reading and have come across a possible conflict with my soon to be purchased system. If I get a 9.5mm HDD, does that mean I cannot fit a 2nd HDD if it's a 7mm? Does having a 9.5mm entirely screw you out of an extra HDD?

the HDD/SSD bays are next to each other not on top of each other. So if one would fit, it wouldn't block the other one. -

Hey folks!
I was testing some overclock stabilty and was amazed the score I achieved on 3D Mark 11.
I wasn't even trying, as my steam was running background even downloading some stuff, and my computer was on for like 6 hours from a fresh restart. Then my physics score was crap...
But I was amazed by the result anyway.
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10976137
This was with the CPU @ 4.0 Ghz and lots of stuff running, GPUs testing stability without any overvolt at all. Stock Voltages +155mhz core and +300mhz vRAM.
Still has lots to improve, so achieving this almost "casually" impressed me!
Every day I'm happier with this machine!hmscott and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

I started as a stability test (I started having some crashes on specific regions on Witcher 3), so I was messing with the clocks and trying to see the impact on the stability.
When I started with +170mhz core/+300mhz vRAM it was unstable untill I reached +155/+300.
but THEN I lowered the vRAM to +275 and I achieved amazing +205 on the core!! And that on stock voltages.
http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/10976232
Tomorrow I'll keep going with Firestrike and more extensive tests.
EDIT: it still seems unstable on some regions of Witcher 3, so on the next testing sessions I'll try again for the highest stable clocks. Probably on firestrike extreme.Last edited: Feb 24, 2016 -

What gpu temps are you getting with those clocks? I think it might be time to tweak voltage on gpu and go from there.

Hi @ all,
just a quick question. As I am from Germany I have to get my P870DM-G from a german reseller.
Now I talked to one and he told me : if I take the GTX980 (desktop) I will not be able to use G-Sync with the FHD LCD
as the GTX980 will not support G-Sync?
Is that true? Does Clevo deliver different GTX980 variants with and without G-Sync?
Thanks a lot -

I have the GTX 980 (desktop) and I have G-SYNC with an IPS panel that runs @ 75hz from the factory
You need to specify in your order that you want the G-SYNC screen

Eurocom just upgraded my BIOS to the latest version of the Prema BIOS. Now the model says Sky X9E instead of sky X9 and the boot logo has been changed.
Perfect as I have Liquid Ultra on the CPU so technically this is a Sky X9E now

Hi guys! Looks like I may be getting one of these a little sooner (X8 probs) than I planned. My question to you guys is 'FHD +gsync or 4K' (which seems a little pointless
). Not a cash decision
, it's just that indoor, low light gaming will be the prime use.
Disappointing I cannot find a glossy 120hz option but hey ho, I see the stock panel is OC'able to some extent
.
Any opinions gratefully received

Hey!
I have the same doubt myself! My Sky X9 is equiped with the FHD G-Sync screen. its overclockable to 100hz. But the difference from 60 to 75hz is MUCH more notable to mt eyes than from 75hz and beyond, so I leave mine at 75hz for long gaming sessions with heavy games like Witcher 3 to cap the frames at those rates and tax the GPUs less.
I was asking myself if I should have bvought the 4k screen. But I think I'm better with the FHD one. first, I have 80+ fps on any game (GTX 980m SLI) which with Gsync translates to a gaming experience I have never had before. With 4k it would be around 30-40 fps on those heavy games, for a increase in resolution that I'm not sure how much of it that antialiasing can make up to...
So I went for the FHD and I don't regret it. I'm still curious to see how a FHD panel would have been on this computer. But I think I would have the chance to regret it and, I'm sure I will never regret this G-Sync FHD one.MickyD1234 likes this. -

My Personal Opinion:
Go the 1080p route and overclock the refresh rate. I'm not a fan of G-Stink, but 4K on 17" is not a good thing (way too small for 4K) and the panel refuses to overclock at all. It's only 60Hz and higher than that the screen goes black. Having used both on this machine and others, I am absolutely, 100% turned off by 4K on any laptop. Next time I have an excuse to dismantle this beast, the 1080p screen is going back on it.edit, Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution and 3 others like this. -

Thanks man. I'm on the same page, I probably wouldn't be able to see those res improvements on a 17" panel anyway. Just interested if anyone has tried one?Sebastiao Liparizi Neto and Mr. Fox like this. -

Discovered an annoying bug on my Clevo. Probably a driver issue. My Synaptics touchpad is automatically disabling right after I log into Windows, even if I don't have any USB mouse devices plugged in. Works fine at the login screen. Then after I log in, the mouse pointer disappears and nothing I touch on the pad or buttons works.
A "Touchpad Disabled" message pops up right after I log in to Windows. It also appears when I plug in and unplug a USB mouse.
I tried toggling a couple settings for it in the control panel, but still no-go. I set it to remain on even with a mouse attached, but still no-go. I also tried plugging in and unplugging in a different USB mouse (basic windows drivers; no special mouse software), but still no-go. (The mouse works fine, but the touchpad doesn't respond to anything with the mouse plugged in or not).
Anyone else ever have that? I'm going to reinstall the touchpad drivers tonight. Hopefully that fixes it.
There is actually an older version of the driver on the official synaptics site I might use instead. But I'll try reinstalling v19.0.24.1 drivers first, since it's the one on my reseller's driver page, here: http://www.pro-star.com/index.php?r=index/download&model=P870DM-G#file -
