I already noticed a big mistake. I ordered the P870DM3 as non-branded and they sent me a branded Sager lid. Not a good start thus far.

Has anyone else received this type of ram in their laptop?

    http://imgur.com/a/LEzGl

I was hoping it would play okay with this ram I bought:

    Ballistix-16GBx2

When they are all together, the computer will not boot to the Sager logo. Turns on, sits on a blank screen, and I can't get to the bios. I've never had this problem mixing ram modules together before.

    Initial Thoughts:

The beast runs very cool out of box, which is strange after hearing all of the talk about high heat. At idle with automatic fans, the CPU is currently at 32C, GPU 1 is at 38 and GPU 2 is at 41.

Max Fan is NOT bad to me at all. I actually enjoy the sound.

RAM modules are never supposed to be mixed unless they are of the same frequency and same timings, even then there are issues sometimes.
In Desktop boards its easier to mix RAM modules, or in the cases where the timings are not tight and the frequencies are low.

But in most it barely works.

I do as well. As a previous owner of an MSI GT70, I ran that on all the time, and I have come to find it soothing almost?. Haha. The Clevo max fan is nothing I haven't heard before, so I just keep it on max while gaming now. With headphones I actually forget they are on anyway.

I totally get it, but I suppose I've just had so much success in the past that I thought it would at least boot and was worth a shot to see if they would work at all together. It's unfortunate I can't even get to bios. I suppose I will just keep them as backup and upgrade to 64gb later (just wanted more ram for my film editing projects)

Well the Clevo EC is notorious for storing and not letting go of settings. Usually it takes a CMOS/NVRAM reset.

One of the reasons why I love my girlfriend. I asked her if she would mind me using the fans at max close by her. She stares at me without a word, waiting. I proceed to turn them on max. She continues to stare at me. After about 30 seconds with the fans on full blast, she said "I'm waiting Frankie, I don't have all night. I have to watch my show."

I guess I don't have to hide my machines.

Dude how dare you recommend a TLC SSD? You can't compare it to the MLC GOD of all SSD's, the Extreme Pro...

I can think of 3 reasons, Because:

    1. It costs money
    2. Warranty on CPU is irrelevant to the user
    3. The answer to all questions isn't Hidevolution lol... :p :p :p

Can I be blunt, this is a total TOOL move... If you want to burn out your GPU, do that in the future... Otherwise, 3D Mark or Heaven Benchmark

I use Phobya XT pads, cheap and good...

    So true Amen :)

    Amen....

It's up to the user what they run on their machine but don't be surprised if the machine protects itself if you run something silly on it.

@Phoenix @bloodhawk Were you the two that use MadVR?

    If not who was it?

I've been running MadVR for years now and I have some questions for my P870DM3. It shipped. :D

Had to order one tube of CLU and one of IC Diamond 24.

I'm going for max quality, I used to use NEDDI and I used to do 64 neurons I believe. However it's been awhile and I haven't updated in a bit. Looks like there's a few new options.

    But my first problem is...
    I will have two displays:
    1) 2560x1440 120hz interal
    2) 3840x2160 60hz 4K tv

Is it possible to make profiles for each display? So I can have a set of 480p/720p/1080p+ profiles for my internal display and the different set of profiles for my 4K tv? And then have madVR automatically determine which profile to use based on my display detected?

I know  I suggested perhaps the best of these three TLC ssd's. He had only three options to select from. MLC nand is always what I want. Have always used ssd's with that :)

Any word on the release time frame?

Also, I've read different things about Prema Bios. Will it only work/be available on certain versions of this laptop?

I don't know, that's for Prema to answer. The Prema BIOS can be installed on any Clevo model of the same model it was made for BUT getting it is another matter. Only Prema Partners get it (as far as I am aware)

Unfortunately, you are in the same boat as I am. If I had to do my purchase all over again, I'd have elected to purchase from HIDevolution. The amazing customer service from Donald coupled with the deity-like abilities you gain over your machine with Prema's Bios is worth it. The good thing is I'm still going to buy the P750DM2 and I'm going to try HIDevolution this round.

If you can make sure the heat sink makes even contact, CLU is the best out there.
There is nothing like CLU not being good for "this" laptop.
Some heatsinks, recently most of them, have just been warped or not even enough to make proper contact. Making CLU not effective enough.

I thought exactly that and I'm still thinking hard about it but going through the return process and then buying it from HIDevolution, I won't get my machine until around December at the earliest.

I've been watching the saga around the heatsink and I'm starting to think that the single unit is simply a bad idea for these machines.

While it may be great for the BGA machines where all the components are soldered to the board but we are expecting three components brought together into a fourth and they all end up at exactly the same height?

Naa, what happens is the thickest component gets great contact and the other two (or one) fight the tolerances allowed and put uneven pressure on the heatsink/board. What follows is a warpage under heat and only a thick paste is going to get any kind of good contact?

    Just an idea.

I may test all this out when I get mine, but then again if the temps are acceptable I'll probably leave it alone...

Hmm. It makes me want to reconsider doing this now as well.I was afraid it would be a month or longer to see the laptop when I need to use it for work now and very much next month.

With the coil whine I am getting from the 1080 to another issue I've found: CPU Core 1 is running hotter than the rest. This is with a fresh application of thermal paste too. About 4-7C higher than the rest at times. Is that something to be worried about? Of course the CPU never gets too hot overall (about low 70s under full continuous load), but it's a concerning thought nonetheless.

Edit: I can get some photos when I am off work tonight for those who want to see shots of the 3K up close. Anything else people want while I get those?

Edit 2: Sometimes the spikes on Core 1 can hit over 10C more for a brief second. It's a very small bit. It is usually the most noticeable while I'm in editing software going through footage/playback. Perhaps it only uses a core for brief periods harder?

I wonder what a perfect-contact heatsink would be like for these things... with the extra thermal pads and everything. Hmmm.

Is the processor de lidded ?
The reason I ask is because, at least from my experience most 6700k's I have seen have seriously ****ty application of stock thermal paste between the die and the IHS. That can easily cause the temperature discrepancies across cores.
When you de lid , it pretry much 99% takes care of those discrepancies.
I'm not saying it's necessary to delid. But in most cases it fixes Intel's shoddy work.

If you haven't tuned the CPU, depending on the CPU the defaults may Turbo Core 0 higher than the other cores, and many applications are single threaded - system processes running while you are testing - and can add to the load on Core 0 vs the other cores, raising the average temperature of Core 0 higher than than the other cores.
