We will have to see if AMD give intel enough of a kick to introduce a 6 core mainstream product.

thank you for your experience, it's very valuable for me and I agree with your choice. I think that I'll opt for the 1440p displayRage Set likes this.

I am investigating why SLI becomes disabled after I reboot (thus forcing me to enable it, follow by another reboot).

The cooling required for a 6950X with a pair of 1080s (which you know buyers of such a machine would demand) would:
A) Make the size and weight of the P570WM look like a toy.
B) Make a fully kitted out P870DM3 with 6700K, 1080SLI, 64GB of ram, 2TB of PCI-E storage in raid 0 and 3k 120Hz panel look like cheap bargain basement deal compared to the price tag of such a unit.Ashtrix, Donald@Paladin44, Georgel and 5 others like this. -
I hope so, because I just chosed these machines mainly for working reasons.. all the sager/clevos I bought at our office were for the portable/calculation power of these machines. An i7 6700k with all the comprehension is not a 5930K/5960x (not to say the new i76900 classes)Cheska likes this.

A 6 core really would help bridge the gap I agree and perhaps help justify the faster memory modules for the dual channel setups. -
After thinking about it the past day, these are my thoughts exactly. I work professionally in the film world and do a lot of work on my machines (and now this one on the side), but unless you are doing color work almost exclusively like grading or animation, the viewing angles and color are just good enough to get work done and not be upset by them. I would only get the 4K monitor if you are purely doing professional work on it and on the go constantly. Even then, you could just by a more appropriate side IPS 100% calibrated monitor like I have and have the best of both worlds. It bugs me, sure, but having been using professional monitors so long, the 120Hz has blown me away to a new plateau while playing intense, fast paced gaming that I don't mind it so much now. Of course, you could always do the reverse I suppose.
My wish is to one day have a 75-120Hz IPS display in 3K-4K created. Best of all worlds. I wanted that with this machine, but for now I can live without the true colors (as much as I do love them).PrimeTimeAction, Rage Set and GTVEVO like this. -
Well what I want to know is what you guys did to my machine. I purchased all of this TIM thinking I'm going to have to repaste and this thing doesn't go over 71c on either GPU. I will say Winter has officially made its way in the Northeast. We had snow yesterday and ambient temps are -1c or 30 degrees.

Burn in can still be an issue with those of course

Lower ambient temperatures do help

Out of curiosity, did the 1080p screen ever recieve GSYNC cert?
I went ahead and ordered a EVOC w/ the 1440p screen. Officially a member of the P870DM3 club!Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution, TBoneSan and 2 others like this. -

No. Last update about G-Sync certification for the FHD 120hz panel was mid-November. Some rumors are pointing to next year. Even when they get it certified, you will need a GPU that's certified to work with the new internal panel, which you wouldn't get if you purchased a DM2/DM3 now. At this point, I think it is a lost cause. The people with the FHD 120hz currently are happy with it and those that want G-Sync are either getting the 1440p or 4K panels with G-Sync.
Congratulations on your purchase! -
Thx, I can't wait to game on it (and upgrade/tune it). I'm currently on a P150HM w/ 560m... and I have a backlog of games (BF1, SW Battlefront, Titanfall) that I can't play on my current laptop.Spartan@HIDevolution and izombot like this.

This is my first laptop, ive been out of gaming for the last few years due to my son knocking water on the computer tower and water getting into it via the fan opening.
I have some catching up to do!

Good to know - Good to pass it then.
Games like Visual Novels or really beautiful graphics games - like why do we pay for such expensive setups - will look really nice in good colors. Just my unpopular opinion, but playing Mirror's edge Catalyst using the LG FHD display or playing Dota2 is such a treat. I haven't noticed the difference between 60fps and 75fps, but I've noticed the inclusion of G-sync.
No!
Please Don't! That thing ain't gonna cool itself easily. Maybe if they built a huge water thank, used water cooling, but remember that it's a laptop, you want to avoid water!!!
Let's say I can engineer a cooling solution that will work - but is very heavy - very expensive - frail - and extremely noisy. would you still want it?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
Does anyone else get coil whine when playing games? I seem to be getting a varying buzzing sound every time I run a 3D game.

Seems like I'm not the only one. It's coming from my GTX 1080. I have a bet it's coming form yours too. Coil whine for me.Georgel likes this.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You will get some coil whine depending on the exact load on the GPU.
Georgel likes this. -
I haven't noticed any, but that might be on account of the fans drowning out all other noise.
temp00876 likes this. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It can vary a lot and be quite subtle in some cases. The loads will usually have the fans spinning and drown it out yes.
-
Thank god I went with the 4k panel and always use g-sync. In this scenario - 60fps max - I get absolutely no coil whine on both cards.

It usually is super high fps that does it. It's really not an issue as it's not loud.
-
What are the idle temps of your GPUs?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk -
If you could engineer it well it wouldn't be frail and this wouldny be an issue anymore. I didn't expect this to be easy or to happen currently. Just mainly making the comment that if I could stuff an 8core CPU in a laptop I wouldn't need my desktop anymore.
Am I expecting this to happen, no. It was just a response to an earlier conversation about a 6 core mainstream part.

Can you see any text without doing DPI scalingShakeeb Anjum likes this. -
Gah. It looks like I have a small clump of several black dead/stuck pixels right in the middle of the screen. Don't know if I just missed it before or they just showed up recently. It seems to be the little things that keep stacking up, haha. Performance and cooling are good though, which make you want to slide any rough patches under the bed and forget about them.
If I wanted to personally upgrade to the 4K G-sync screen manually eventually, in the future, where would I go to buy it? -
Seem to be upper 30s to lower 40s here is what they were currently. Was playing some GOW4 earlier.
CPU -80 offset at stock speeds.
Yes its very readable, its small but its nothing like the 4k with no scaling. 125% seems to about perfect but I could live with either.Last edited: Oct 29, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution, Georgel and Trashmonk like this. -

I can engineer it and not make it frail - but the cost of weight and over-added materials would be huge. Not to mention cost of the final product itself.
Irony is that my specialization is that of an engineer - I can literally do this, but there is literally no reason to. No one is prepared to pay the price / carry it / carry the weight and size / prepared to say 100% that they want one.
And battery life would be probably in the 10-30 of minutes.
Thickness would be.... a slimmer suit case. At least I would make it modular - just for fun.izombot likes this. -
This was on automatic. I ran a combo yesterday and overclock profile does ramp up earlier but automatic still is quite during off load and does the job safely.

Not saying you shouldn't go for it... but a water cooled modular laptop already exists

hey guys, a question (maybe it's has been already stated) for the p870dm3 1080 SLI, if I'd be using the machine not in SLI config, but only with a card, would I need anyway the two bricks or it would functon with only one psu?
-
It should work fine with just one, whether you only have one card or if you just disable SLI.
