@GTVEVO Have you tried pushing the screen past 120hz yet? I'm going to do that in a few minutes.

I've finally gotten some quality time in with my P870DM3 and so far I am LOVING it. The 1440p screen "issue" is being blown out of proportion. You have to look really close to notice it, but you would notice stuff like this on any monitor close up. It might be slightly more pronounced than an external high end monitor's similar shortcomings, but you really have to be looking for it at an abnormally close distance. My only issue with display is that sometimes text can look a bit soft/fuzzy, but this has more to do with Windows scaling than the actual screen. I would say the only people that would need to be concerned would be those that need extreme color accuracy for photo editing, which they can get with the 4K screen.
I've already been to two LAN parties with this beast and everyone comments on how good the screen looks. It was also color calibrated by HIDEvolution so that helps with overall impression. Several friends have used my new rig for a couple hours and no one has noticed anything other than how smooth the screen is. Overall, the screen is a huge improvement over the 1080p 90% NTSC high color gamut screen from my p170em. I'm really glad I waiting for this with its higher resolution and 120hz g sync.Last edited: Oct 30, 2016Papusan, Spartan@HIDevolution, izombot and 2 others like this. -
Is that on the physics test or the combined test? Wondering as mine only throttle when the gpus are actively at load in sli only just as the dm1. Running pure physics or cpu bench doesn't show the problem.

Exactly my point. I have my girlfriend and brother using it. I asked them about the screen (i.e. how do you like it) and both commented it looks great. While my girlfriend and brother are no panel experts, they only noticed it after I told them about it and shown them what to look for.
I stand by my score of the panel which I shown ahead of my full review. -
Hummm. You are the only one in the world able to draw this much power. Interesting.
Ouch! And this is still going on now?
Side note. SLI can be enabled on the fly and without rebooting. The same for locked gpus at 568 mhz core crashes... -
Yes it still happening I can't seem to shake the power throttle issue.
To enable sli without reboot do you modify the inf as in the past with the mobile gpus? I haven't attempted anything yet but it was in my mind for convenience sake.

I did apply the hard power mod to the cards
For sustained game play it evens out the clocks wonderfully. This does not impact my cpu clocks until it gets hot so I can bench at 4.6Ghz with the cards full blast but for gaming sessions use 4.4Ghz.
-
Ah. ok. That makes perfect sense then.
-
Combined with single gtx 1080. In sli i too have the problem
Sent from my SM-N910T using TapatalkGTVEVO likes this. -
Yes. same as before. Once modded, you then disable both gpus and then re enable them which cause the settings in the registry to take effect, thus removing the need to reboot.
-
@Mr. Fox, Which screen did you order? Also from which reseller?
-
I ordered from HIDevolution. Due to supply limitations on the 1440p 120Hz screen I just went for the 1080p 120Hz screen. I may replace/upgrade the screen (maybe) later on when the supply is abundant. I didn't want to wait for an indefinite period of time for the 1440p screen. It already feels like I have been waiting much longer than I have, LOL.
I'm not very picky on screens, so not a big deal to me. I think the screen on the P750ZM is OK (good enough to live with, and not bad enough for me to want to spend money on something better) and it's not a high quality panel... average, if not below average. -

HID offers a 120hz 1080p option on the dm3? Is it gsync?
Edit - NM I see it isn't gsync.
-
It's pretty obvious in that video. I'm trying to replicate this using other grey scale images. If there's something obvious I am missing, I'd like to figure it out now while I'm in the return window. Is this your video? And if so, where can I find that image? I can't see anything like that with any of the grey scale images I'm looking at unless I'm roughly 3 or so inches (length of my index finger) away from the screen, at which point you could almost chalk it up to normal pixellation you'd see on any monitor up close. Definitely not visible at all from 2-3 feet as said in the video. If it is the same panel, maybe some have it worse than others, having to do with variations in the manufacturing process?
-
The 120Hz 1080p IPS panel does not qualify for G-Sync certification. NVIDIA would not accept it. I have no personal preference for a good quality TN panel over IPS anyway. And, I don't like G-Sync so the 1080p screen not having it doesn't matter to me. I am getting GPUs without G-Sync as well, so I will never need to disable it even if I replace the 1080p screen with the 1440p G-Sync panel at a later date.
-
Its not my video, I just have noticed that recently many owners of Clevo, Alienware, and Aorus have all had these complaints.
I am hoping it has to do with the manufacturing process but fear it is a result of "WVA" or something like that; A trade off for better viewing angles in a TN panel.

I'm not a tech expert, but from what I can understand from the technical jargon I'm not going to be seeing a CPU bottleneck at 4k resolution anytime soon since it's my dual 1080s that are shouldering most of the burden.
In the event I am CPU bottlenecked a few years down the line when downscaling for games written for more advanced GPU systems, so will the 6700k no matter what kind of overclock is managed purely because the underlying CPU architecture is the same.
One for the elitist "all-or-nothing top-spec or you're an idiot" trolls to consider, not that it would make them change their minds nor stop them from being overbearing and pompous when shoving advice down prospective buyers' throats.Donald@Paladin44 and 1nstance like this. -

@GTVEVO what happens when your force 6bit in a custom setting? Do the lines look the same? Could you dump and PM me the EDID please?
BTW, could someone please dump the SPD of a 16GB 3000Mhz G.SKILL stick with Thaiphoon Burner and PM me as well?Last edited: Oct 30, 2016ajc9988, DeeX and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -

yeah I'm not happy ordering a 5K USD laptop with ANY issues from the start.Papusan, breaktimeplayer and hmscott like this. -
It does have some horizontal lines that can be viewed by your eye if you are up on it, my daily monitor is a X34 predator so any flaw is going to stand out.
Yes I do have it, would I choose something different , probably not as I only notice it right away and if I am up close to the screen. Its annoying that its there but its too early for me to give it a complete rule out, in games I don't really notice it but my mind knows its there. If you are happy with the 1080p panel I don't think you should jump on the 1440p until a clear determination of why its like this is provided.
I will give that a shot and dump the EDID tonight and send it to you. -

Just spoke to HIDevolution (Ted) and told him to put my order on hold until they figure out this screen issue. I'd rather wait for another screen than to pay 5K for a laptop with such a quirkhmscott likes this. -
I think I may already have that dumped from the P870DM-G that I sold to Rage Set. If so, I will send it your way.
Edit: I do have it. Sending it to the @Prema Phoenix G-drive for you.
Hmmm... in that case I dodged a bullet and I am glad I ordered 1080p. Early adoption has always been a roll of the dice, but it seems worse now. Or, maybe I'm just getting more cautious with age. Whatever the case, I just don't do that much any more and my appetite for risk is not much above zero. Unless I have the opportunity to try before I buy, I generally prefer to watch others spend their money first and see how it turns out before I waste any of my own.Last edited: Oct 30, 2016DreDre, temp1147462323, Papusan and 5 others like this. -
What other screen is being waited on? I thought the 120Hz FHD was rejected by nVidia for G-Sync, plus its not 5ms. Are there any other ones on the horizon?
-

I doubt it, I might drop the whole idea altogether until some new taptop comes out
I am very anal about these things, if I pay 5K+, everything has to be PERFECT, no compromises -
You have PM with a link and there is no 6bit option in the display panel that I can see.Prema likes this.

I thought Rage Set bought his laptop from Xotic PC not HIDevolution?
Ted from HIDevolution told me that Rage Set has reported this issue to them so I'm confusedLast edited: Oct 30, 2016 -
not xoticpc?

Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
yeah sorry, typo, I meant I thought he bought it from Xotic PC -
Yes, that is where he bought it. A Sager is still a Clevo and would have the same screen options as any other Clevo. But, it looks like the same screens are being used across multiple brands. Not sure if there just are not many options out there or what, but if Clevo, Alienware, Aorus and others are all using the same thing, don't expect the display panel one to be better than the other.
Looks like @GTVEVO can add that to the list in the thread of screwed up stuff that Clevo needs to fix. -

I know, what surprised me is how does Ted know that Rage Set is complaining about his screen, LOLboricuafly likes this. -

Boy am I happy to have the 4k with g-sync after reading all this posts about the 3k panel. Colours are vibrant and 2 1080 deliver 60fps in nearly all scenarious and if the fps goes below 60 g-sync kicks in and does a superb job. 120 Hz may be needed for competitive gaming. But after I have seen BF1 maxed out at 4k there is no way for me going back below 4k resolution ever. So my advice to all indecisive which panel to get: 4k is the way to go, the 2 1080s are screaming for it

I'd never go for a 4K screen due to scaling issues and more importantly, they don't have high refresh rates. I want a 120hz panel so I'll just wait and be happy iwth my FHD 75 hz GSYNC screen for now -
I purchased my laptop from XoticPC. I never reported anything to Ted from HIDevolution. My only contact at HIDevolution is Donald and I spoke to him the other day about buying the P870DM3 from them if I were to return my current P870DM3. I never said anything to any reseller about the panel.
-
Is there a chance there is some sort of "workaround" or in the least bit some way to identify the issue or characteristic of the cause?
-
I had at first the 75 hz FHD in my DM1 and replaced it with the 4k. The response times are comparable between them. And for me the scaling issues are irrelevant in win10. But if you must have 120hz then the 4k panel might not be for you. For me the difference between the 4k and the FHD was night and day.

I will hopefully receive my P870DM3 with that 1440p screen sometime this week. So I will be able to provide one more opinion on that.
@Phoenix
If I have had this laptop just week earlier, I would have been able to show you the screen as I'm currently in Dubai for a work related trip.

Ok so I am completely new to high end laptops but I just got my 870DM3 from HIDEvolution with the 3k screen and I can't see the banding... Mind you I only started it up and loaded drivers etc. I will bust of my macro lens and FF camera soon to see if I can even under those situations see anything.
Also while I have been waiting for this beast to show I have been reading the backlog and thanks everyone for contributing to the forum. A great resource for newbs like me.
which brings me to my question. I noticed a post a while back about an overclocking guide, I cant find the post though. is this ringing any bells for anyone?afloyd, izombot, TBoneSan and 1 other person like this.
