I understand, I can tell you right now the dm3 is a caged Lion on a sedative and @Prema and @Mr. Fox will wake it up, it will be worth it.

You're right bro. This is killing me knowing that I won't be able to unleash the true potential of this DTR. My monster rivals my DT (at stock) but that throttling has to go.

I know how to oc but if I decide to keep it, I'd need to delid. Right now I have it at 4.2 with a -100 undervolt. I need to think a little more on this. If I chance it and return it, I could end up with a machine with coil whine or worse, a defective GPU. Decisions, decisions.hmscott likes this.

Ok, not sure where it says in the manual that you need to delid a cpu just to use it. Your issue is with to much over all voltage for a default clock.hmscott likes this.

no that's too much of ask, Eurocom cannot even answer my basic emails asking about the latest version of the Prema BIOS on my Sky X9. never again! -
Rage set is part of Eurocom?
-
That's news to me. For the record, I don't work for any reseller.

LOL. Ok. Because I was over here scratching my head for a moment.

Wot.
You can't disable SLI without reboots in notebooks (without a registry hack or driver mod), so for it to turn off SLI on reboot... that cannot be something with your power plans.
Feel free to send me one to test with.
And a notebook to accompany it.
I mean, you know... valuable feedback! etc!

Been a while since I posted because I've spent over a month on the Witcher 3 with the new system.
I don't really use it much apart from gaming, but it's met my (admittedly low expectations) since it arrived around the end of September.
List of cons compared to my old 170HM3:
1. I hate the new design for the fingerprint reader. The older versions may have been large but they got the job done. I tried registering my prints with this new one and gave up after half an hour of frustration. Just as well Windows 10 forces most accounts to use a password anyway for security.
2. Fan noise on full blast is extremely loud as noted earlier in October. I got used to it eventually and found ways to mitigate it by turning up the speaker volume when playing.
3. I'm still new to SLI systems and having to learn how the profiles work is an inconvenience. The performance of the system itself is first-rate though and I'm not doing much else bar the Witcher 3 so still a while to go with the learning curve.
What I like about the system
1. The internal sound system (hardware and software) is miles better than my previous model. Subwoofer technology certainly improved over the 5-6 years since my last purchase. Probably best to hook it up to my external speakers in future to improve the experience but it's fine for now.
2. 4k screen is great. Huge difference in quality compared to my previous 1920x1080 screen. 1080 SLI means I can play most games out now at highest visual quality without really worrying about slow FPS.
3. 1080 SLI. Not much to complain about once I've turned it on and the profiles are properly set.
4. I like the feel of the keyboard. I'm used to the layout and the keys make a satisfying noise when I'm typing.
5. Windows 10 Pro needs a few tweaks off the shelf but otherwise it's been impressively stable. I've had just the one GPU related crash playing the Witcher 3 and the system managed to right itself without much intervention on my part.
6. Dual Samsung 950 Pro drives and the USB 3.0 ports are much faster than the equivalents on my old system. Not sure if there's any software out there that can help with the maintenance of the former though.
Retailer-specific comments
1. System was delivered early despite my expectations. Slight miscommunication regarding one tiny aspect of my order which led to it being manufactured and delivered early on schedule, but owing to the recent bankruptcy of the Hanjin shipping line I accepted the prompt e-mail communication concerning the issue. Kudos to XMG-Schenker for the stellar work they did on my system and fingers crossed I won't ever have to return the system for repairs!gLOB, izombot, Georgel and 1 other person like this. -

Yes we have thermal sensors inside so they only run if needed. Fans are quiet. -
Bro tbh, it ran pretty cool in game.. Didn't feel any heat from the keyboard or vents.. So yes they probably cherry picked it..
Well you can always volunteer to help Prema in its development.. GTEvo was in a similar position and he did that and got it in the end
Oh look what we have here... Its our dear friend who got a 6700 with 1080 SLI.. Hope the CPU bottleneck hasn't killed you yet
Sent from my LG-H850 using TapatalkPapusan likes this. -
No CPU bottleneck as far as I can tell. Witcher 3 performance is comparable with all the benchmarks I've seen online. Novigrad has easily the worst performance spikes but I'm still seeing 35-40fps consistently in the city areas. Everywhere else runs at 50-60fps.
If there is a bottleneck on my system, it's going to be the same with the 6700k and no amount of overclock is going to save it from replacement eventually.
Since you're being an abrasive rake, anything else you'd like to troll me about?Donald@Paladin44 and 1nstance like this. -
Nope, not really... I just like taking the piss out of you since you went against all the advice here and went with a 6700 with 1080 SLI and 4K... I know you didn't want to tweak your system etc etc but then you mentioned you had to tweak the 1080s to make SLI work properly..
Don't take offense from what I'm saying, just teasing ya most of the time... Probably doesn't help but your case is one of those that makes my PC master race elitist bug come out a lot lol..
I've been around the forums for 8+ years in one capacity or another, seen quite a bit... We'll know in a year or 2 if I was wrong or you are correct.. The good thing about the P870 is that you can fix that if needed, don't have the choice with BGA..

My system does not throttle the CPU when SLI is engaged at all. There is no firmware lock like that.
-
I think what Rage Set is trying to say is that when 1080SLI +6700K is pulling quite a lot of power, some throttling occurs.. So lets say 6700K running flat out at 4.2GHz and 1080SLI engaged in a game like BF1..
Unless of course temps are the issue.. What is your take on the situation Meaker?
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk -
Thats great, but mine does at only 4.0ghz so has SAGER pushed their own EC possibly?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
550-600w from the wall using the stock firmware says to me it's not a firmware issue. Our bios is a little unlocked but the firmware is stock.
-
How is the 1440p screen? I hear that this AUO screen has some complaints of striping. Is that the case? If so how bad is it? Please explain.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk -
Well for a start might be worth sharing your BIOS and EC versions.. I think Hide has been a bit behind in BIOS versions recently.. Maybe Meaker has a newer version
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk -
What's striping? I have the 4k AUO screen.
-
Ya something is up because with both GPUS enabled my CPU won't go above 40 watts no matter what I set the allowed wattage and time limits too and its a serious thorn in my side.
-
This is with the 3K screen, its a TN 120Hz screen.. Its got some pixelation/striping issue
What's your BIOS/EC version?
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk -
Whew, that's a relief. Sorry to hear about the issue for the 3k screen owners though.
-
Example of combined firestrike test / max wattage is always below 40 watts which is worse than BGA lol.

Well since there is this striping issue with the QHD, perhaps an FHD Gsync looks a bit more attractive.

I'll have a look at my versions and do a screenshot.
-
Did some rule that it was a real issue or just an aspect of the 1440p?
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk -
When I had this, I had forgotten that I had put it into quiet mode, which puts it into power saver and limits CPU.
-
It looks like a real issue.. 1440p shouldn't be like that.. My 1440p XF270HU has no such issue..
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
Yup, might be worth installing Clevo CC and setting profile to max performance..
Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk -
@GTVEVO and I were the first ones to say something about this "issue" and I for one don't even notice it anymore. I don't sit ontop of my panel (I'm always 12'' or more from the screen). Once you see the screen in action though, you will know it is the best for gamers. So Phoenix shouldn't have an issue nor will anyone else, unless they are professionals that need better colors.Spartan@HIDevolution, hmscott, hexum23 and 1 other person like this.

Do you have to though? I believe you can just set the windows power control to performance. Is the CC doing something else?
-
Yes, for whatever reason, CCC seems to be independent of Win's Power plans. CCC was on Entertainment and Windows PP was High Performance.TomJGX likes this.
-
Max performance is set so no worries here. Notice the same settings with a single GPU enabled, you will notice CPU wattage pulls over 60 and the combined score is higher with no throttling. This is something in the firmware, just didn't realize it would be so bad.
I don't notice after setting at the screen for about 2 or 3 min either, but if something is produced to be better I will probably want it corrected. -
Looks like it throttles to me on SLI

Perhaps you are just accepting it because you spent gobs of money and don't want to be disappointed by the one subpar thing on this awesome machine.
As prideful humans we tend to defend and be loyal to our own personal decisions even when faced with something that would be considered uniformly undesirable.
Question: If you could change this "striping" issue would you? If the FHD or 4K ere both Gsync and 120Hz, would you still use this panel?
Either way it's settling. Finally there is a laptop panel with low response times and 120hz and there is an "apsect" which is considered to be undesirable.
I personally would consider this settling.
I am extremely disappointed.
Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk -
Yup your combined test is showing the same, I check several others submitted and those are showing similar results on the 3dmark website so there is a problem, I knew about this problem already as it existed on the DM1 but it seems its just as bad on the DM3 if not worse.Spartan@HIDevolution and hmscott like this.
-
If I could change it sure I would but I am not going to proactively place blame on the wrong people either. I have a 2 year warranty and I feel confident that if I have an issue I will be taken care of in one way or another.
I will say I understand your feelings though so I do not want you to feel I am discounting then either.Last edited: Oct 30, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution, hmscott and DeeX like this. -
Its technically not an "issue", so I doubt it will be "taken care of".
I was not placing blame on anyone like a reseller, because I know it seems this "issue" is actually a characteristic of the panel.
Because it is a characteristic of the panel this would not be covered under any warranty.
If one should be blamed it should be whoever designed the panel itself.
The Aorus x7, the Alienware 17 R4, the P870DM3, the Msi, all have the same panel and all have the same issue.
Again, I'm very disappointed.
-
I understand your point for sure and rephrased my original post to ensure the delivery is understood.
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalkhmscott likes this. -
LOL, sorry but seeing a post like this in a thread about the P870DM3 makes me laugh. I mean, clearly this is a budget conscious laptop!!
Plenty of people would think any of us are insane for spending even just $3k on a laptop. Plenty of us are far exceeding that depending on other options. I'm sure most people on here are fully aware of the price disparity between the different SSD sizes and m.2 vs. 2.5" SATA formats, and are basing their decisions on their needs/wants. m.2 is more expensive, but, like @clayton006, I need as much space as I can get and the 960 series is the first m.2 with a 2tb option. Plus I need to have the fastest!
The life cycle on that 4tb evo is not the greatest. It's fine for most people, but the pro lasts much longer and gives piece of mind to those of us that have to give extra value to data security/longevity. I was considering that drive over the 2tb 850 pro, but at the end of the day I'd much rather have the longer life cycle.Last edited: Oct 30, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

I already wrote a few pages back that I would still choose this panel if I had the choose all over again. Now if 4K was G-Sync enabled and had 120hz, I would of course choose that panel. Most would.
If the screen was that damning to me, I could easily return the unit because I'm within my 30 days return window. The panel is a non-issue. What is an issue is the throttling and without Prema's Bios, I would likely be stuck with this issue. That is why I'm considering a return.
