Yes, I'm really stoked. Single 980M stock with @Prema vBIOS on El Cazador is like 1297 on Heavy 4.0 with the same settings, so that stock 1080 SLI run totally dwarfs it. I forgot to change it to Ultra graphics on the EVOC beast.

    I didn't get a live view.

Weirdly enough, mine went to parts on order to in production and then to shipped all within the same day. Hopefully everything is alright with my machine.

So, we've talked about the 3K screen, but anyone out there have the 4K screen and want to talk about it (image, scaling, lag input, gaming)?

i have the 4k screen from the last generation p870. Image is great, color and the clarity. Scaling is annoying, because windows 10 sucks. But if you can live with 150 or 175 percent magnification. its' fine. Not all programs scale properly either. But most things like, word, web surfing. its fine. Gaming, is fine too as long as you can live with 60hz. I think its fine, since i stick to strategy games, and rarely do first person shooters. And even then, I find it acceptable. coming from a person thats never been exposed to screens above 60hz

The colors are amazing. I have a 27" PG27AQ which is calibrated, but the laptop colors look much better (my laptop is calibrated as well). Also, being an IPS screen, it has good viewing angles. I have never noticed any ghosting or smearing, but otherwise I've never checked input lag. I also have no problems with even fps games, but I've never used >60 Hz before. Scaling is the same as any other 4K screen. Not using scaling just isn't an option unless you have eagle eyes, and it can be a bit annoying at times, but definitely not a deal breaker for me.

A question from anybody who can answer,

If in future i want to change my 1440P (G-Sync) screen to 4K (G-Sync) or FHD 120Hz (G-syn, if it gets certified), do i need anything other than the screen (like cables e.t.c) to make it work properly?

Also can someone confirm the part no of 4K 60Hz G-sync screen currently being offered to be AUO B173ZAN01.0?

Its a beautiful 4k screen for sure. But i am swapping it out for the 3k for sure.
I play fps games and my head hurts. Frankly, i dont want to readjust my eyes to deal with 60 hz. I think id be worse off forever as a person, lol

So, with heavy reluctance I am sending it for RMA for coil whine, dead pixels, and some speaker cracking I am getting with high volumes. Going to feel like the wait to get it all over again... Bad luck of the draw I suppose.

That being said, are there any upgrades for the machine I should get? Trying to decided to SLI or not now. Question is if I need that much power now, or if I should just wait for the next NVidia card next year to upgrade, haha. I'm kind of afraid of the heat that would show up. Been getting a steady mid-60's on all my games for the most part, and it would suck to be in the 80's for both cards like I've heard.

Scaling depends on the game, something like shadow warrior scales very well where as others not at all.

    Around 25ms worst case.

    @gLOB

I made a mistake and purchased a 9000 USD desktop a few months ago, I hated every moment of it. The performance is great but I didn't like the clutter, the cables I had to connect (keyboard, power, monitor, etc), and how much space it took on my desk. So I sold it and got this, desktop class performance in a small compact form which you can take with you easily wherever you go.

Not sure if this applies anymore but fuzzy text was an old problem with fxaa being enabled in the global profile of the nvidia setup, worth a try disabling it.

Two questions on RAM for this beast:

    1. Which DDR4 3000? G Skill Ripjaws or Corsair Vengeance? Is one better/faster than the other or is it just a matter of preference?

    2. Can't decide between 16GB and 32GB. Leaning towards 32GB since I do a bit of SQL and virtual machine work (and gaming of course!). If I went 32GB, is 4x8GB or 2x16 better/faster?

Go the safe tried way, G.Skill 3000 MHz. FTW ;)

Also, I recommend at least 32GB personally. The more you give Windows, the more it will cache and use

    I have 64GB 3000 MHz. G.Skill RAM

Just set the memory profile to XMP2 in the BIOS and you're set to run at that rated speed

Haha made the same mistake with a Node 202 with titan xp, sold now and getting this beast. Whats the point of saving ~600 bux (when going with decent desktop incl. decent case and onboard audio + 1440p 120hz display :p) when I cant use it half of the time per year... Friends think im stupid now for going this route, meanwhile they have custom water loop in their systems. I still don't get how valuable it is to spend 1/2k $ or more on cooling to have ~100mhz + ocing a cpu vs having your desktop full performance in DTS chassis, objectively speaking, it should be that the 2nd one is much better for the price you pay. Their suggestion was either "Build muscles", get a ~200 bux pelican case with ~100-300 dollars insurance on each travel, or use chromebook and remote connection (< that one is just dumb, maybe reasonable 30 years later, but we are not there yet). I feel its more like "joining the league thingy" than "get what suits your situation" in the majority of the PC community.

Edit: to add my experience, living in the middle east, and traveling from KSA to Lebanon, I had to remotely sell my desktop by a friend since there is a new law that forbids having desktops in checked in luggage due to thievery and lack of insurance. Fedex or aramex would have cost me ~1200$ for shipping ~10 kilos (incl screen) in 2 day shipping, mind you that any other shipping priority (cheap ones) do not have insurance aswell. Can't imagine going back and forth every 3 months with this anyways, let alone bulkiness and risks. (having to disassemble heatsink/hdd and other stuff each time).

I used to run throttlestop with vdesk so it runs on second virtual desktop after loggin in invisibly, thats the only way I found to disable BD_PROCHOT without bios mod, that was in the p170sm early days. Else I had the same throttling issue when gpu hits high temp or tdp.

We don't have a lot of specifics from the admins or developers on the timetable, but it's my understanding that a solution is in the works. At least they are aware of the problem.

G Skill it is, good info on the mem profile.

Now the amount, 32GB is enticing, so does it matter if I go 4*8GB or 2*16GB?

4x8GB would probably give you more performance (having 2 "extra" RAM sticks to further parallelize data transfer), but I'm not sure that it would be noticeable in day to day use... Whereas the 2x16GB would give you the option to upgrade later without having to replace those modules if you wanted.

Also something to think about is heat... more RAM modules probably equates to more heat necessary to be dissipated

I think one key reason you're forgetting is noise. It's one of the main reasons I switched to desktop. Also, upgrading is generaly much cheaper, other than that tho, if I was in your shoes I would've definitely made the same decission.

Ram speed can give you a small fps gain in games that are more CPU intensive than gpu instensive. It's usually very minimal 1-3fps. Might be worth the cost difference to you might not be. If your spending $4.5-5k on a laptop why not "splurge" the tiny extra :)

aside from the already stated points, a smaller number of installed sticks leave u more headroom to overclock and/or tighten the timings, if you choose to do so ;)

Yeah and void your warranty, no thanks

I'd rather order it that way so my warranty is intact

Warranty is not important on a desktop i7. It's worse with BGA ;) You test the processor first, then begin to play with it. A processor that work well under your first testing will rarely fail
