We have DDR4-3200 in stock. So if there is some interest from you guys to test them let us know.

Hi guys, I'm thinking about to make an upgrade to all our clevo laptops in the office and skip from the actual 850pro SSD to the faster M.2 nvme SSD. Our workload is higly based around CPU usage (all the cores ever run at 95-100%, physical computations and so on..), so I'd know what do you think about, is this upgrade very useful for the performance-money?

Yes this is good idea - you should move up to 960 Pro NVMe. In fact we are planning to phase 2.5" drives in our laptops over next 2 years.hmscott, jaybee83 and boricuafly like this. -
I am already waiting in Germany for the appearance of the M2 960 Pro NVME.
Currently I have the unofficial M2 SM961 NVME 256GB without support.
As soon as the M2 variant officially comes out with warranty - I'll have a second M2 Pro 960.
And then I install Windows 10 as a second operating system next to my Windows 7.
However, there is so far I know no 256 GB variant anymore.
The smallest version is then 512 GB at least in Germany..
Or does one know even more details? -
Hello sympathetic notebook enthusiasts,
When will probably the Prema Bios appear for the P870DM-3G?
Can someone tell me if I need the Clevo Control Center?
So far, I have not installed XTU and no hotkey (Control Center for P870DM3). -
That would be the dumbest thing ever... The M.2 drives are overpriced and especially the 960 NVME ones... Not buying a laptop from Eurocom if that happens (not that I would anyways due to VAT + Import tax but just saying)..
2.5" drives give choice to people, removing that is a very very bad thing! -

For detailed specs see http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960pro.html
They are only coming in 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. The 512GB and 1TB will become available in mid-November. Stay tuned for the release date of the 2TB.
Samsung will also be introducing the 960 EVO, which is much faster and less expensive than the 950 Pro. They are WAY less expensive and about the same read speed as the SM961 with slightly fast write speed. See http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960evo.html

The SM961 supposedly has no support but let me tell you about my SM951 experience... Similar thing, however I was able to install the Samsung NVME driver.. There is literally no difference between the 2 after that so don't worry. Also do you need a 2nd one? Better off getting a M.2 SATA drive as for the price of a 512GB 960 Pro you can easily get 1TB Sandisk X400 M.2 SSD
-
You mean you can instead buy a 1tb x400 and put the remaining money $100 odd on a second 1tb.
Buying the 850 pro was the biggest waste of money for me. I just wanted to satisfy my curiosity. Now I have, I'll pass on a 960 and get another x400 1tb.DreDre, Mr. Fox, bradleyjb and 1 other person like this. -
You mean the 950 pro?
I got the SM951 since 950 pro is totally overpriced and even more overpriced now in the UK.. That was fine tbh... As long as you go for the 256GB ones, it's not too bad to stomach... The 512GB NVME SSD's are totally overpriced..TBoneSan likes this. -
No I actually meant the 850 pro, I wanted to see what all the NVMe hoo-ha was about. I can't say I noticed much difference even on boot from my old x400. Granted there are exceptions to my experience, mainly folk in video editing. I'll admit it is tempting that the 960 pro has basically a doubling of speed but for what I do they offer no advantage over plain-Jane Sata 3 ssd speeds. I benefit more from having larger storage at a price that doesn't cost half of my machine's value.Last edited: Nov 2, 2016Ashtrix, DreDre, Mr. Fox and 1 other person like this.

I almost thought its the p870 from the thumbnail with color stripes.

kidding lol.
edit: fixed
edit2: actually this is a good option for bulky and thick laptops for ergonomics, i actually did have wrist join pain with the p170 if i did not set the table or chair at proper height, not to mention external mouse is at different level due to the thickness of the laptop aswell which is little bad for competitive fps, thats compared to external keyboard and mouse setup. yet sitting far from 17 inch screen kinda cuts real estate view.Last edited: Nov 2, 2016 -

Hello everyone,
So is Control center AP (5.0001.0.83) safe to install now or should I keep using .50? Or does it still mess up the fan tables?
Also is there a way to change the boot logo or am I stuck with "Style Notes"?
Thank you. -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
anything above .50 has XTU built in which may cause your fans to spin up randomly even while web surfing but your mileage may vary
as for the logo, once you get your Prema BIOS from HIDevolution soon when it's released, it will have the EVOC logo so no more Style Note

Ordering tomorrow!, 1080 sli, and im thinking i should go 256nvme for os, and 2tb sata ssd (+1tb ssd i have lying around). 4k screen (for 3k@120 as a nit-pick: if the banding is visible i would avoid it) Though im unsure how the 4k screen handles 1080p resolution, upscaling method etc. Does it look blurry?
I also wish the 1080p@120hz option had good colors and viewing angles, i would opt for that since I hate windows scaling. (especially on 17 incher) -

Im getting mine this week so I'll let you know
Yes do go for the NVMe SSD for the OS unless you want to run Windows 7, then stick to the standard non NVMe m.2 SSD like the SanDisk x400 or 850 EVO as Windows 7 isn't the best for NVMe SSDs
For the screen, it's a personal choice but I'd never go for a 4K screen on a laptop. max is 3K like what I ordered with my current laptop as 4K is too small unless you want to do a lot of DPI scaling say 200% which a lot of programs don't play nice with and you'll have cut off borders or unaligned buttons. Just my 2 cents, others may disagree -

Raid two larger SATA based drives to get a snappier OS experience over a single NVME drive
Or get two NVME drives to go faster than that.

Here is a link to a few photos I took at both 200% 4k scaling and 1080p resolution on the 4k screen. Look at the URL or top of screen for reference because I had trouble getting a good focus on the whole screen. Each shot was from approximately 2 ft using Sony a6000 with 35mm f/1.8 prime lense and a tripod. I personally don't see any blurring at either, and the programs that I use have little to no problem using 200% scaling. The screen really shows itself to be amazing when I look at photos or play rpg games, otherwise I use it like a 1080p screen. I hope this helps a bit.

All I can say about the 4k screen is that it's a real beauty. Colors and contrast are amazing. If you are even remotely interested in picture quality this screen rocks. I have not found scaling to be huge issue either. Windows in 200% just looks incredibly sharp and crisp. Text is so much better to read than on a lower pixel density screen. And I was sceptical at first about the 4k screen. But I am a believer now

now type:
services.msc
or just go to computer management from Control Panel > Administrative tools and see how is the scaling and if the text is sharp or blurrygLOB likes this. -
I will likely get a 4K'ish monitor when I can find an affordable (800 to 1200) Ultrawide version (I can't use a normal standalone monitor anymore, I got spoiled). That likely won't be for awhile though.

What kind of setup do you use to drive your X34? To be honest, I'm still satisfied with my current dual LG Ultrawide setup. They may be cheap compared to the X34 but I get very little ghosting (if any) with them. I am curious about your average FPS you get with the X34 though.

Hello everyone, I am a long time lurker of this thread and similar threads alike. And a P170EM (GTX 980M) owner that is looking for a new laptop. One thing I hate about all the Clevo models is the keyboard. How come every other manufacturer has better keyboards than clevo? from the placing of the delete keys to lack of proper spacing/response to single press multimedia keys ( mostly for adjusting system volume without having to press Fn key). This keyboard has ruined my typing experience and skills. Having to each time go back and type is frustrating.
For me Clevo is attractive because of the price point and customization, but if they can't seem to get their keyboards right, then it is a deal breaker for me. There is no way in hell I want to suffer another 5 years+ with a whacky 15" keyboard meant for 15" laptops.
I have been speculating for a long while now for my next purchase and I have managed to somewhat gather that a Future Clevo model with X299 chipset with a bigger and better keyboard with Skylake X May -be on the works for 3Q 2017 along with a pascal refresh. This is me just ranting about the keyboard, please do not pay attention to it. However if you do share my concerns please get your voices heard along with me and spread the word as much as possible.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
I use mine at usually 90fps , are able to set your own cap up to 100fps supporting g sync at 3440 x 1440p
I have used 980m SLI, 980ti, 1080 and 1080 sli with it and all can keep up for the most part.

So I apologize as this is the first non BGA laptop and power of this scale. Is the Prema thing a custom VBIOS to raise the power limit of the GPU? I may have missed out as I ordered from LPC Digital but curious what is going on? Thanks for any help!

Clevo makes the worst laptop keyboard EVER!hmscott likes this. -
Congrats! you won't be disappointed.
Clevo/Sager normally doesn't have a great bios from the factory for us overclocking enthusiasts. From a stock perspective they still perform better than any BGA machine in most cases but most of us purchase them for total control and raw power. To achieve total control the bios and vbios must be unlocked to allow the component performance to be maximized and this is where the strong community here comes into play. @Prema is the core project manager and developer that we support along with several individuals that field test and he will be releasing Bios/EC/vBios down the road to the Prema support vendors once he is able to determine the safest route to provide the unlocked updates.
This is not to take away from other vendors but only the vendors that could support him will be able to obtain the unlocks. Hopefully this helps with your understanding.

Benefits of Prema BIOS:
- The ability to disable other drives connected to your system without physically removing them from your laptop, this comes in handy when installing Windows as you never want to have more than one drive connected at the time you are installing Windows otherwise the Windows setup will place the boot files on the 2nd drive it sees which hurts performance and makes it a headache when creating system images or restoring since the boot files are not on the main drive.
- The ability to overclock, increase Turbo Power Limits and System IA/Core Current Limits
- The ability to enable Intel Speed Shift Technology (it is disabled in the stock BIOS)
- The ability to run RAM with speeds higher than the standard 2133 MHz. I am not talking about overclocking here, I am talking about actual RAM sticks that are rated to run at 2800 MHz for example like the G.Skill 64GB 2800 MHz kit I have. With the stock BIOS, they will not run above 2400 MHz. In the case of the P870DM3, the stock BIOS now supports up to 2666 MHz. I believe but not more, so the Prema BIOS is a must again
- The ability to enable CSM for those who want to install other OSes like Windows 7
- The ability to undervolt the CPU as the stock voltage is way too high which causes the CPU to overheat much quicker and thus throttle under load.
- The ability to enable or disable CPU AES instructions or Virtualization
- The ability to disable hibernation from the BIOS
Benefits of Prema VBIOS:
- Power throttle disabled
- Over-voltage slider enabled and adjusted (up to a maximum of 1.2v)
- Activated and adjusted thermal slider (to keep it cooler if desired)
- Core overclock slider limit raised
- Power consumption meter activated
- Fixed 3D voltage base-line in order to stabilize OCs and voltage-match both cards in SLI systems (based on average ASIC)
- Thermal protection @ 92c (once*91c are breached the system throttles volts and clocks in order to protect it)
- Protection against Furmark and Kombustor GPU burnout (AVOID those software even with stock vBIOS)!

I hope there is a @Prema release soon...
