Not soon enough, right?
Here's my normal bit: Some things are still under NDA, including the actual date at this point. There's been a few dates that have been tossed around the forum so far though. -
Ah, so one of the dates folks are tossing around the forums for a Pascal mobile announcement is probably spot on. Well at least we all know it's not August 3 anymore

Of course now comes the deliberation.....do I sell mine and wait for the refresh or hold onto it and ride the storm. I'm blessed to have a perfectly working unit from top to bottom @ 4.5 and has given me zero problems and tons of WoW/Diablo3/VMWare love, but as long as the 10X0 cards can be made to work in it, I'm good to go......
.....but still.

I'll say sometime between the 16th of August to the 20th of August.ajc9988 and PrimeTimeAction like this.

There's enough of a market for that outside this forum I'm sure if they're willing to make another revision of this mobile server/workstation.
-
Id pick up a Xeon Workstation variant in a heartbeat. Dont care what GPU is in there, just give a socketed 8 Core Xeon / Processor.
-
Just when I build my desktop Clevo announces this. I hate my life.

I almost buy desktop today with GTX 1080 in SLI until i saw this thread
If price goes right, 3000 for 1080 SLI P870DM2/3 and i will buy in a heartbeat
-
Bruh, if the price of 1080 SLI with 6700K and a decent HDD/SSD/Warranty setup is $3000-3300 I will actually jump out of my skinajc9988, DreDre, PrimeTimeAction and 4 others like this.
-
1080 sli minimum 4000 if not 5000...

I doubt we'll see this anytime before September.

I just hope the upgrade prices for us current P870DM users isn't insane.

I have the power converter and dual PSU. Also NvMe SSD, HyperX RAM, I7-6700K(will canibalize from my P750DM),
I will opt for the cheapest config except for the dual GTX 1080. (i5, No ram, hdd, single psu, etc)
I don't see why it is not possible
My only concern is 4K screen (they charged additional 600$ in P870DM wth)
So yeah, i would go for 3500$ for cheapest P870DM2 with 4K screen and Dual Gtx 1080
Then at home, i will put all the pieces together
-
1080 SLI will be 3500 will only include the chassis, panel, keyboard, and wifi. From 5+1 USB 3.0/3.1 to 5+2 USB 3.0/3.1
5.5KG up from 4.8KG -
Might be some bad news for us P870DM owners who want to upgrade to desktop SLI...

The minute they said P870DM2-G and P870DM3-G, we could have guessed this xD

Brilliant – as soon as one of these goes on sale in the UK/EU with a GTX1080 & 4K I’m hitting go. I wonder when they’ll launch?

http://sofiacomputers.net/laptopi-mobilni-komputri-ceni.php?id=19645 - this suggests £3200 / $4300 - that seems a little low?

Also: £2012/$2672 for the 4k/GTX 1080

This is crazy, I post this thread yesterday, go to sleep then wake up this morning and it's already 8 pages long! Imagine what happens when the laptop is actually released
-
I didn't see anywhere mention what kind of CPU, amount of RAM, and hard drive.
Are they all gonna use 4K screen from now on.
Boring boring Chelsea -

Does anyone know what would be the difference between the DM2 and DM3? I thought it's just gonna be 1 refresh with the Pascal GPU
-
Maybe DM3 is for Kabylake PCH.
-
Isn't one for SLI?

Reading the manual as always is a good idea

indeed. And that's not all. They also seem to have used a different power cable altogether for powering up the cards.Last edited: Aug 4, 2016

So...
Can we single power brick for a single 1080 card? -
i don't need 1080 SLI, just 1 1080 will do!
Nomad, oveco and electrosoft like this. -
I wouldn't give up on single 1080 working. let's wait and see how they will implrement it in "P870
What I don't understand is how the new power bricks work... -
theoretically one 1080 should work and that's enough for me.
-
i need a bit of clarification on that!
if there's no sli then a single card is still in for a shot of being workable. -
Single 1080 should work...using both 4-pin power connectors.
ajc9988 likes this. -
the pascal p870dm has extra space between mxm master and mxm slave port huh? -
I'm going to take a stab in the dark here for a minute....
A single card looks to be able to fit. The problem will be powering on the card. Take a real good look at the connectors that power on each card. Now, 1 of 2 things may need to happen first. 1: they come with a different version of the card with smaller power cable. Or 2: You have to somehow mod a cable to work..... Just my speculation from looking at the picture.
Maybe, if you cut it and get a new connector for the tip and solder on the second connector for the board. If I remember correctly, not all boards came with the second plug. And that's provided it's wired exactly the same on the board....Speculation of course.
Yes, so SLI wont work, but single should fit(Working is a whole nother matter), with the correct heat sink. Hard to tell about the original one working.Last edited: Aug 4, 2016ajc9988 likes this. -
but the p870dm pascal power connector is not 4 pin anymore, it's more than 4 pin
so we must also buy the power connector alongside the 1080M for install in p870dm maxwell? -
-
Prema mentioned that current DM owners will be able to upgrade their machines to a certain degree. Don't know which ones, though)
But, it's also possible that the cards on the picture are full gtx 1080 and gtx 1070 might not require power connector at all and will be sli capable in the original P870DM as well. Again, pure speculation here.
There have been a few reviews on the web about Nvidia HB bridge for new desktop cards. And the difference between standart and HB bridge is quite significat. Wonder if it affects mobile cards as well.
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk -
Oh yeah, we also need info on the HB bridge and pics of it going into the SLi clevo.
IIRC the HB sli is only relevant at 4K60 but I might be wrong. -
let's hope it's the P870DM-G and the upgrades aren't just limited to drives and ram!
-
What's the difference between P870DMG2 and G3 again?
-
Welp. No 1080 for me i guess. Im not buying a full system just for a single GPU. Not much of a SLI fan.
