Message from Vivian from HIDevolution, "stock BIOS doesn't support RAID in Windows 7"
but RAID works for Windows 10 using the stock BIOS -
Hmm, ill dig mine out tonight , i remember it being somewhat longer.
-
Don't use RAID
You can set up software RAID in Windows, but really what are do you need RAID for? Making a larger volume out of smaller ones? Doing RAID 1 for recovery? RAID 0 for performance?
Run without RAID, it's safer and if you have an NVME drive it will be fast enough.
Maybe select larger, but fewer SSD's? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I only use RAID for having more storage space as my 512GB 950 PROs don't cut it -
You can use software RAID in Windows if that's the case.

Is this RAID in general or just for m.2 NVME drives? -
Spartan@HIDevolution Company Representative
I can't confirm that as I don't have the laptop -
Any advantage of using a longer power cable?
-
I thought you, or maybe it was @Mr. Fox said they were going with M.2 SATA to get away from Windows 7 NVME problems?
So the BIOS RAID volumes created aren't seen in Windows 7 Installer?
Did they load IRST into that Windows 7 install? There is an IRST driver you are supposed to load as part of the Windows 7 install to make the RAID volume seen. F6 load drivers.
To install the Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (Intel® RST) driver during operating system setup, follow these steps:
- Press F6 when prompted by the message: ...
- Press S to Specify Additional Device.
- Insert the F6 driver diskette when prompted by the message: ...
- Press Enter.

What about the plain NVME device, are those seen ok in Windows 7 installer? -

Yes but I have no money to order two X400 1TB drives now so ill just stick to what I have for the meantime.
I am not interested in Windows 7 since I have NVMe SSDshmscott likes this. -
Ok, so what was the purpose of your first post, I thought it was a failure notice from the builder, saying they couldn't use BIOS RAID on Windows 7, but it works on Windows 10.
Weren't you asking them to load Windows 7? Why else would you post that?
Were you posting that FYI for the list of @'s? I thought you were asking them for assistance
Can't you trade in 2 Pro 950 512GB's for 1 1TB? Or do they not have them in stock?Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

The 850 Evo drives or x400 are both good value drives.
A different angle on the cooler. -
X400 is what I am using. Best bang for the buck I have found. I have 2x512GB X400 (1TB RAID0) for the OS volume in both of the machines in my signature. I think I paid like $119 each for the M.2 512GB X400 from NewEgg.

I'm using a 950 pro in my Asus rampage v 10th edition with Windows 7 and it works great. I run a few vm's with server 2012 and Microsoft exchange and SQL database it is a beast. I know there was some issues with Intel 750's and Windows 7, heaven seen any with the 950 pro.
So maybe prema Magic will "fix" the raid issue in Windows 7 -

The GPU heatsink now overlaps the CPU so you'd have to repaste the GPU when you want to install the CPU or repaste it:

Yes, I agree. But given the under-handed tactics and reputation of M$, they can get away with it. There was no need to move away from Win7, I really like that OS and then they force everyone to migrate. Luckily, enterprise is not following suite, so we might see its lifetime extended. DX12 promised to be a lot faster than DX11, that was not the case when it was released.iunlock likes this.

Can anyone comment on the cooling - either those that have seen or touched it or those who've studied the pictures?
I just am trying to make sure I understand the design. Using the 3rd picture @Phoenix was sent from HIDevolution ( https://postimg.org/image/3ui9u0tu7/),
I see the very left set of pipes (2x) go into a set of fins on the left to be cooled by the left fan.
On the right (under the monster heatsink), is the CPU heat sink with three heat pipes heading into the fins cooled by the right hand side fan.
Here's what I'm trying to grasp...
The 2nd GPU seems to have 4x pipes. Two of them go to the middle-left into another set of pipes leading to a set of fins to be cooled by the middle fan. But it looks the second set of pipes (2x) break off and go to the right into another heatsink. It appears then this heatsink connects up to the fins as the CPU? What does the right hand side set of fins look like? Does it have a smooth block as well and they are 'joined' with TIM?
Again, trying to mentally get a picture of how this works just by looking at pictures.
TIA -
I ordered my P870DM3 with 1080SLI and the 120hz 1080p screen from HIDevolution last night. I asked at time of ordering if the screen would be G-Sync compatible once the screen got approved for it. They looked into it and just called me back. Apparently the non-G-Sync screens will have 1080 cards without the G-Sync chip. I asked if there's any way to give me G-Sync cards now so it will work once the screen is certified, but was surprised to hear the current screen won't work with G-Sync enabled 1080s. I know some of you we're assuming it would work so thought you should know.
I was hoping for G-Sync because newer titles already dip below 120fps at 1080p with max settings and I didn't want any tearing. The 4K w/G-Sync is tempting. But to me, the higher frames and refresh rate are more important, so I'm inclined to stick with my order. They did mention I might be able to do some sort of exchange on the cards for G-Sync versions later, but there's no guarantee and no estimate on price.Ashtrix likes this. -

On the fins there are two layers of heatpipes, you can only see some of what is going on.
The two heat pipes for example from the primary GPU, only the first pipe goes to the left, the send carries on without bending and stops:
You can see that heatpipe bending to the right in this view and the one next to it comes right out and stops, see there is a channel below where those heatpipes are.ajc9988, jclausius and Spartan@HIDevolution like this. -
This is a cause of concern for me. This Friday, I was going to place my order for the DM3 at HIDe with the 1080p screen based off the information on this thread. I was told that once Nvidia got its money, we would get an update that would turn G-Sync on. Now if I have to pay for G-Sync versions of my 1080 cards, I'm going to be pissed.
