Yeah, but 17 pounds!!! What backpack would carry that behemoth? Also, I couldn't find anything to confirm whether it would be a desktop or mobile CPU.

To that I say, why not a desktop? I won't entertain anything over 18'', panel wise. The cooling on that thing better be amazing otherwise, someone at Asus is getting punched in the neck.hmscott, Papusan, jaybee83 and 1 other person like this.

From all the pictures I found, it seems like only two pipes are dedicated for the CPU, although they span to one of the GPU fans as well. Anyway, the GPUs are soldered, so I'd guess the CPU is also soldered.

I checked and it is weird that they are the only reseller currently shipping that panel. I'll let my brother know since that is the panel I originally recommended to him for his DM2/DM3.hmscott likes this.

Oh for sure, I just saw that no one mentioned it yet and thought it was an realy interesting laptop. The display especially.

about the 4k 120hz panel http://www.eetindia.co.in/news/article/au-optronics-claims-worlds-first-120hz-qhd-display-panel

I can't wait to see
Nice, also mentions a 1440P panel, that's more in my interest. -
Just what I'd been waiting for. Solid confirmation of what all the rumors were saying. Can't wait till a panel finally manifests. Hopefully by the time I'm able to order a DM3 the 4k 120Hz panel is about ready. I can afford to wait a few weeks to a month if it is (or just order the panel separately off ebay or something).

umm....u guys ARE aware that that article mentions a QHD panel at 120 Hz right? thats NOT 4k, but 2560 x 1440
just making sure everyone understands that article correctly
there IS talk of another 4k display in there, but its not 120 Hz

Good call, only issue being that sometimes 4K and QHD are used interchangeably. Guess I got carried away with the prospect.
The key word is among, and it sort of just transitions into info about the 4K panel but doesn't really make a complete distinction here between what the other refresh-rates are so I guess it's easy to assume based on the context of the article that the majority of the displays are 120Hz displays if not lesser. I guess confusion is easy to muster in this case. Still gonna remain hopeful though (if only it'd mention the refresh-rate right next each individual panel including 4K to make things that much more obvious).

I've emailed HID to see what they have to say ... I would hold off for a few weeks as well for this. QHD would be fine. I also asked if they would swap out at a future date if I stayed with current order.Akaraah likes this.

Given the resolution relative to the screen size, I'm good even with a FHD display, as long as it would have improved color space coverage.
I'm afraid of getting one of them 4K displays since I'm mainly working with text and Clip Studio / Photoshop, and neither is known to scale without hassle.
I just wish they would had improved the FHD screens, the 4k one has color space coverage AND good brightness AND sharp image. -
Keep us posted. The more we ask and verify info the closer we may get to a real answer. HID and other resellers are possibly backed up on stock so it might be that the only/best thing to do is wait. Hopefully we won't have to wait all the way until mid-October or later to find something out.
-
If I go for a new laptop or desktop, I will probably wait to next summer. Maybe we have more choices on laptop panels next year. A decent 1080P is still a good choice. I can't accept 4K!! People say just scale down, but I don't want to use this choice.Georgel, Ashtrix, hmscott and 1 other person like this.

I hear ya there! I've heard win 10 is **** on scaling well, but haven't seen it first hand...
Also, does skylake X count for skylake support on the older OSes? Really want that and purley in laptop or desktop, unless amd pulls some magic out of their ass with Zen or successors...
I may not be as old, but I've read too much to hunch that close to the screen to read... But may give it a try in the future after all scaling issues are worked out...
I would like to see a 1.07B+ (I believe minimum for that is 10+2 bit depth, but could be 12 (and should be 12+ on these new displays, but...)) color screen with over 90% (preferably over 93% on xy, 96% uv) DCI P3 coverage, great contrast, etc., regardless of FHD, QHD, or UHD (4K)...

Yep. Donald basically said too soon to tell, but that it would likely be a while before G-Sync certification. Wouldn't be able to tell about swapping out until they got one to see. Based on last year's schedule it seemed like the current 4K became G-Sync in late October.
I'm not going to worry about it though - there's always something else (Kabylake in January for example). The 4K will be excellent based on what I've read. I'm used to dealing with the scaling from my Razer in any case.Last edited: Aug 31, 2016 -
Sure, while I truly despise 4K, 2560 x 1440 at 120Hz would definitely interest me, but only if the rest of the machine is over the top awesome. The screen is probably the lowest item of importance on my list of priorities. G-sync is something I view as being a totally worthless gimmick and I am absolutely not willing to pay extra for that. Raw performance trumps absolutely everything else by a very wide margin for me. I'm totally fine with 1080p. The only exception here is I would certainly be glad to pay a little bit extra for 120Hz, but I am almost certain I would not be willing to pay extra for 1440p. It would have to be included in the base configuration or offered as a free upgrade. I'd much prefer to spend my money on go-faster stuff.Last edited: Aug 31, 2016DreDre, Ashtrix, hmscott and 1 other person like this.

You shouldn't need to run that Full Fan mode unless you are doing benchmarking or long job runs - for max performance cooling.
Otherwise, auto-fan should be enough for gaming.
Please do some hot and heavy gaming, and then record the highest fan speed / noise / GPU-CPU temps reached

The more I think about this, the more I am inclined to believe option A or B makes far too much sense for me to seriously entertain option C. Plus, option C is the least affordable of the three.

i have no idea how to find that. The only way i know is check the sticker back of the panel

Ah, just download and install AIDA64 or HWInfo and both have section that will give you the details.

Assuming you have windows 10, follow these menus as they appear in order: Try right-clicking the windows/start button, click control panel, Appearance and Personalization, Display, Screen Resolution, Advance Settings, and lastly the monitor tab. That way you'll be shown the refresh-rate rate.
-
Just looked up the panel number n173hhe-g32 from the screenshot @akhil raju . Nothing on panellook.com yet of course but that might not be for too long.

I'm waiting for the 4K 120Hz panel as well. As far as scaling goes, I run it at 1440p and have zero issues. It's my preferred native resolution for gaming too.Akaraah likes this.

Unfortunately, there likely won't be a 4K 120hz panel for the current models. Right now, there's either 1080p 120hz G-Sync (coming soon) or 4K 60hz G-Sync. According to the link posted a few pages back, AUO does make a 1440p 120hz panel and I don't know why Clevo didn't offer that in the DM2/DM3.TomJGX, Georgel, hmscott and 1 other person like this.

Yea they should have offered the 1440p 120Hz as it's even more practical in so many ways than the 4K for most people. Although I do utilized the 4K for my work, but still...
I'm sure they know that they are holding up so many sales right now all due to the screens. Bummer...
I know there are a lot of variables at play here, but I'm saying just to say it. "Get on with the program, my wallets waiting..."hmscott likes this. -
well lets see...since current display bandwidth is restricted to
3840x2160x64Hz=530,841,600 (pixels rendered per second)
then converting that to 1440p would theoretically allow
530,841,600 / (2560x1440) = 144 Hz
so lets wait for the AUO 1440p at 120Hz, overclock that to 144 Hz and were good without having to wait for new and improved display cables with higher bandwidth

that seems to be some Chi-mei Innolux 120hz screen? -
Considering how b0rked hardware upgrade paths for laptops is now i may even consider that long has stuff aint restricted. Which considering its acer i very much doubt it

Gentleman i have some problem,
I bough a p870dm3 and i did a cpu stress test and after few seconds i have thermal throttling.
(Yesterday i put liquid ultra on cpu)
I try also to play with 4k resolution and the display start to flash and shut down alone, please if somebody know how to solve the situation -

It sounds like you need to double check your application of LU.

I put 2 times with the same result, now i gonna put the icd and i will see whats going on

Sounds like there's a gap issue...ie...not making good contact. A traditional paste will likely do better as it is thicker.
