Sorry to hear about the RMA .
I know you’ve been waiting sometime to get it and it must really suck for you and to tell you the truth us too, a lot of people have been waiting for feedback from actuall owners.
It would’ve been great to hear about the fans and temps when gaming not using max fan profile. It’s good that it has a max fan option but to me personally it’s much to annoying to use unless you want to wear headphones and unfortunately I can’t have my ears covered because of I have to be on alert at work and at home ready to go.
Good luck with the next one!

Mine just came in the mail!
First impressions from the unboxing, it looks really black and sleek and nice.
Zero blacklight bleed, very nice screen.
Getting it setup, will run some benchmarks.

Nice. Hopefully you have some modern games to try out, like BF5 or Metro Exodus. Would be interesting to see if CPU reaches thermal throttle point with stock thermal paste - seems like a lot of brands like Asus, Alienware and Dell allow this to happen on their RTX models.

Hmmm it came without the nvidia control panel, and userbenchmark needs to have the switchable graphics set so it forces the program to use the 2070... which only seems to be doable with the control panel. There is no standalone nvidia control panel, and I'm a bit reluctant to replace the drivers... would 3dmark be useful to anyone?

What would be the best way for me to see the max temp reached while doing a benchmark? Do I have to keep my eyes on the HWInfo program?

You can get the Nvidia control panel app from the Microsoft store. That's how it should be installed by default now it seems like.

It's not clear to me how to set up gsync - when I downloaded the nvidia control panel, I only see the '3D settings' tab, not the 'Display' panel

Edit: there's some more weirdness. The laptop is struggling to play Guild Wars 2, and when I hit automatically detect settings, it puts everything on low. I made sure to select the RTX 2070 in the nvidia control panel for that game. I'm going to install the drivers from pro-star and see if that helps.

Edit 2: Seems like all the drivers are custom and need to be installed on a certain order. the pro-star website recommends using the included DVD, and of course this laptop doesn't have a dvd drive...

Should've come with a USB with the drivers on it. Not sure how up to date they are.

The G-Sync switch is in the BIOS. Should be something in the Clevo Control Panel too, not the Nvidia one. I don't recall noticing it in there though. Should be in the BIOS for sure though.

After trying out a Thinkpad P72 for a week and finding it to be kind of garbage I'm really interested in this machine. I wonder how well it will work with dual booting Windows and Linux?

So after struggling to get everything working last night, I have everything set up today. I played Anthem for about 10 minutes on Ultra. I applied a -125 undervolt to cpu and cache, and granted that I only played for a few minutes, the CPU temp never went above 84.

This laptop is EXTREMELY good at dissipating heat. Within 10 seconds of closing the game, the CPU went down to ~50 celsius.

The fans are a little louder than I would have liked, but probably not loud enough to be a dealbreaker for anyone. Anthem looks amazing with gsync enabled, I haven't tried it with GSYNC off.

By the way, although I haven’t tested it, this laptop seems to support the same ‘hdr while streaming’ functionality that the y740 advertises.

The Scar had the same thing. It's in one of the windows display settings. I think it's more a Windows/RTX thing then something Clevo implemented.

I am running "Control Center 3.0", I don't see an option like that. FWIW the machine is very quiet when not gaming.

Right now this is what the fan setting looks like, it seems reasonable to me (the red line is CPU temp, blue is GPU). The left side got cut off, but it's the fan duty %, I guess percent of maximum speed.

Right click on the control center in the tray, and there is a "Quiet Mode"
You can also get there from "Power Modes" if you open the control center application.
By default it's in "Performance Mode" which is really aggressive on the fans, even when the temps look fine.

My GPU/CPU idle at 45 degrees on "Quiet Mode" and 49/58 on "Performance Mode."
So I think it does some throttling too -- I'm just happy to have a "coffee shop" setting.

Thanks. How did you get your app in the bottom right corner of the screen to keep it running even after closing it? When I close mine it just seems to kill the process.

Not sure. I did reinstall it though for unrelated reasons.

Something interesting: My perf is limited by power and voltage reliability. Not a bad wall to be hitting.
I wonder undervolting the card or CPU will give gains...

I got 200 points on timespy with cpu undervolt. I suspect my score would be a little higher if I had dual channel ram. Also my fans are at entertainment, not performance, so changing that would raise my score a bit I’m sure but i don’t really care at that point lol.

How much of a difference in noise do the various fan settings make? Does it make a difference in how warm the underside gets?

I have a decibel reader coming tomorrow, hopefully that will clear things up regarding fan noises. I hear that the y740 maxes at 48db and that is basically the lowest in the class.

These numbers don't mean a whole lot to me but if anyone is interested -

I ran the Normal, 12 thread, 1024 benchmark in throttlestop. It finished in 111 seconds and the maximum temps of the cpu cores ranged from 72-76

Probably will see better numbers running dual channel memory with OC+UV. On the P960 thread the 2080mq pulled a 21k FS and 8k TS after a UV+OC. No small feat for a thin and light with a 180w power brick.

Currently at a 1213 in cinebench, highest cpu core was 73c. The last few seconds I see some PL1 throttling and the clock multiplier goes below 39

Overall the more I use the laptop the happier I am. This decibel reading is at maximum fan speed, which I haven’t actually had happen in a game yet.
