That's a good point. Honestly the 9900k/2080 combo is just so powerful, even in this smallest of containers.

I look back through these threads and see that I was concerned about the same things... what clock to run at, whether a 330W brick would be sufficient, whether cooling would sufficient, etc.

Now that I've had this setup for a couple of months I can say I was surprised at how easy it was to achieve decent performance with minimal tweaking. I could eke out more, even though I'm pretty sure I lost the silicon lottery. I'm running a 4k display too, so demands on the CPU/GPU aren't trivial.

No need to set low expectations.

With computers there is always something more but I always enjoy hitting that happy balance clock with really good performance and controllable thermals.

Guys, thanks for all the input!

Assuming 4.5GHz+1700MHz is the minimum performance balanced (as all things should be) with decent cooling, what would be the maximum that the 330W adapter can support, while the machine remains relatively cool? I will mainly use the machine for gaming (Garden Warfare, latest Assassin’s Creed, a few Total Wars, and Tom Clancy)

The adapter is 330w, it can do 330w to the machine ;)

I mean how many GHz and MHz I can get from the CPU and GPU with the 330W adapter :p

only one way to find out: testing! ;)

every cpu and gpu is different, so ull have to find the sweet spot in terms of voltages, clocks and in the end, wattages before your psu starts giving out on you :) also depends on the loads we are talking about. different apps and different games have different wattage loads on the components. so u cant just expect a simple answer to that question, too many variables involved :D

Also that difference is at its biggest when you overclock/tweak.

Cheap power meters that will be within a few watts are not hard to find.

Just remember the power brick losses are not included in the 330w figure.

    @Donald@HIDevolution

With at least 5 different OEMS going for 15" OLED panels (DELL, HP, Lenovo, Razer, Gigabyte); what are the chances you can get a 15" OLED to fit into the P751?

Considering the IGP is unpowered and the nvidia chip cant control the brightness I would say low.

I'd not recommend lugging around a battery capable of delivering 200-300w.

    Guys,
a question about aptX HD bluetooth protocol.
The wifi/BT module on my Clevo is the Intel 8260. I believe the aptx protocol is supported.
How can I be sure it is active?
Since I'm connected with my ibasso dx200 DAC player through BT connection and I'd like to enhance their sinergy using aptX protocol. In my ibasso dx200 I'm sure the protocol is active but I don't how to do it into windows.

    thank you in advance

I don't need to be portable; it'd just sit in my room and power the laptop (and maybe speakers and router if it has enough juice; otherwise I'll have to get 3 separate power-banks).

In that case I'd buy a battery backup (UPS). I have all of those 180W+ Powerbanks that are out there, they are great. Although, I wouldn't reccomend them in a high power draw scenario as they are usually maxed out around 90W. If you REALLY wanted to, you could probably buy 3-4 of them, and splice all of the grounds and 20V rails together to have that ~300W capacity. Although, the practicality of having $500 of 20LB powerbanks laying around is up to you.

So there's no compact powerbank that'll power this thing at high load, right? Or at least not for long? I think the amps would be the crucial number here, and if watts are too low, it just won't last long enough. If I bought 2, and charge one while using the other, I could have a continuous supply.

My machine has an 8700k and GI 1060. I use more CPU than GPU (doing audio, not games). Would replacing the magnetic drive with another SSD have any significant benefit to battery life? The battery for this has 82WH, so something like this (120Wh) will be around 1 and a half of my internal batteries, right? Kinda expensive, since 2 of them would cost $400, and it takes 6 hours to charge... but I'm not running marathons, so I could charge both at night I guess.

    https://www.amazon.com/Lion-Energy-...power+bank+WH&qid=1559380926&s=gateway&sr=8-3

My apartment does not have grounding, which is causing me a number of problems. People here in Russia tell me getting the place grounded will be a huuuge issue, so I'm looking for a portable battery, since running off a DC battery means I shouldn't need grounding (hopefully).

Darn! I missed your reply. Anyway, I actually managed to fix the Clevo laptop last week, had to replace a ceramic capacitor and then it came back to life which is great. I don't really like any of the laptops currently available, except perhaps the Xiaomi ones but I'm hoping in August they'll upgrade their Gaming laptop to 9th-gen Intel CPUs, so I'm just going to keep using my P750DM for the time being. The Clevo really delivers in every way except portability, and I think carrying a little extra weight is less painful than splashing out on a new laptop that doesn't really fit my needs.

I'm also waiting for the new AMD Ryzen CPUs and will be putting together an ITX audio production rig on a custom aluminium frame.

My p751tm1-g seems to have an issue when on battery only:
It can start up fine and everything works great until I do a reboot or shutdown.
After that it's unable to power up again even when the battery is around 90%.
The only way to turn in back on is to connect it to the A/C.
If I don't restart or shutdown the battery seems to last normally for about an hour or two depending on usage.
    Very strange... any ideas?

What comes to mind is a wrong powerbutton setting.

Or to aggresively overclocked so it does not really want to start on battery only (to much power draw)

    I have a question.

Rome Total War 2004 was one of my favorite. However, I have never been able to play it on max settings. My old laptop had a 7700HQ and a 4GB 960M, with 16GB RAM. Will a combo of 9900K and 2080 be able to deliver this game with every setting maxed out?

    Hello everyone.
A new P751TM1-G owner here. Got myself a new Sky X4C as paypal ditched me on some other vendors but decided to play fair with my prepaid card on Eurocom's site. Hope their support is good and the order comes on time.
    Current Config chosen = i5 8400, 16G, RTX2070 and locked BIOS.
What are the most logical upgrades I can do down the road like in terms of actual hardware and of course, thermals? (PS: first time clevo owner but I had an asus FX504GM earlier which I have experience in undervolting with TS).

Depends what your use that machine for. From the looks of your current config, the limiting factor would be the CPU.
Also, a locked bios makes it hard to recommend a K SKU CPU as an upgrade. However, the thermals can always be improved.

You want the laptop to be able to breathe, so having something raising the back of it, like a book, does help.
If you're willing to take it apart, you can always change the thermalpaste on both cpu/gpu for a higher quality one.
Delidding is an option if you're willing to dap into the deep side of the pool :)

Hi jc_denton, yes, the bios is locked but I would get it unlocked once I have the funds and the time to dabble around with a K series cpu.
I do like to get my hands dirty with DIY stuff so I hope it doesn't fall apart ;)

In that case, I believe the best power to thermals upgrade for the CPU would be a 8700K/9700K. You can get a reasonable OC out of these, with decent thermals if you delid and use a copper/lapped ihs. Even push the ram towards the 3000Mhz depending on kit and quality of motherboard traces.

If you step back to 4.7Ghz all core you will get all the gaming performance and especially with the 8086k that should run at a nice low voltage.

You need a card from an enabled machine, a BIOS and the panel.
