It depends at the end of the day really how you want to define it. It just removes is further from a true benchmark of a gaming setting to competing for an arbitrary high score.raz8020 likes this. -
thats completely accurate! it depends on what you want to achieve. i.e. compare hardware on a specific game to determine whats needed to run it smoothly or hunt for the highest possible score in a given benchmark

But I just did a clean install of Windows, and where to get the right drivers!!!
I bought the laptop from EVOC, but can I just use the SAGER drivers?

Yes, you can use the Sager drivers and utilities, or reach out to [email protected], or call 888-666-3418 Ext 3 between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
You can get the Intel® Wireless-AC 9260 drivers from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/99445/Intel-Wireless-AC-9260 -
Thanks!
I tried the Intel driver but it's not working. I guess the Sager is no different than what EVOC would give me?
And I guess I don't have a ti GPU.... I know nothing about GPUs,just went for the cheapest one. -
Donald,
Any chance you'd have any insight into the issue of synaptics settings not showing up in Windows 10 Mouse configuration?

This seems to be the right link for drivers, but when I try to download I get a server-error
http://www.clevo.com/en/e-services/download/ftpOut.asp?Lmodel=P7xxTM<ype=9&submit=+GO+
If you want the most de-crapped version of Windows, download Windows Enterprise LTSB. No Edge, Cortana, Store, Media Player etc. and only security updates. It's soooo nice. You can download a 90 day trial and then re-arm the trial 3 times giving you about a year.Last edited: Feb 24, 2018jaybee83 likes this. -
Came across this thread. Maybe this utility it the best way of keeping drivers up to date (regardless of who you bought the machine from?)

When you say the intel driver is not working, what error message are you getting?
-
Strange, I went to install the Clevo driver today, and my wifi was already working... so maybe the Intel driver worked, but needed some time to ferment?
Time to get all the other drivers installed. I couldn't get that Obsidian program to run, so I'm at square one wondering - is it best to get drivers from hardware manufacturers, or from the Clevo site (it seems only the Asian servers for the Clevo site work, and even they are painfully slow). -
Clevo download site normally have old drivers + trash download speed. Better get them from the hardware manufacturers.Donald@Paladin44 likes this.

Can anyone please link me a guide on how I can monitor the wireless connection for the laptop? I noticed that my P750TM1-G drops, but it's not often. I wanted to troubleshoot if it's the laptop or not.
The driver version of my 8265 (according to Dev. Manager) is 20.0.2.3. I just downloaded the PROSet installer (v. 20.30.1), but I'm not sure if it'll be better.
I sometimes don't update things when they're still working. -

So now the question.... what drivers do I actually need?
--TouchPad? (Do I get the latest from the Synaptics site?)
--Keyboard?
--Device manager shows the GTX 1060 driver as installed, but I never installed it.
--Battery?
--Bluetooth - is installing the UART recommended? (for the Intel wireless chip)?
--Samsung 960 Evo (NVMe SSD)?Last edited: Feb 25, 2018 -

If you are clean installing it then download all the drivers from your reseller and then get the latest set of video drivers.
-
I'm worried that my reseller's drivers could be outdated (what some have told me recently) and also, that there may be more software than I need. e.g. If I go to the Sager driver page for my laptop, there are drivers I don't require (killer LAN when I have Intel).
I try to keep my machine as clear of unnecessary items the best I can. -
naturally, you should be aware of the exact specifications for your hardware to make sure you only get the drivers that match
Sent from my Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (Oxygen) using TapatalkDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -
But how do we get the exact specification for e.g. our touchpad? (I'm assuming all models of this machine have exactly the same touchpad?)
I've been trying to find that piece of information and can't for the life of me. -

In Device Manager there's a 'standard PS2 keyboard' and 'PS/2 Compatible Mouse'.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
You have killer LAN (ethernet) and an Intel wifi card so you would want both drivers.
Being bang up to date on all drivers is not essential except usually for the GPU drivers. The rest can usually be left unless you have issues.Papusan likes this. -
ive had the experience that touchpad and audio drivers for clevo machines are best left at the latest stock offered by either clevo or one of their resellers. otherwise its a lot trial and error to get all touchpad functions and proper enhanced audio to work with the latest manufacturer drivers....
you can use tools like hwinfo64, aida64 or others to check your installed hardware. or windows device manager. oooor you can browse the stock drivers for your machine and check the respective .ini files, they usually contain the exact hardware model number

Adding to this: Anyone have alternative ICC profiles for this unit? I find that the whites in my profile are too bright.
-
ull have to check the make and model of your display, thats what an icc profile depends on and not your laptop model.
btw, u can just lower the brightness if its only the bright whites, no need for an icc profile there

So sometimes I have my laptop plugged in and it says "plugged in. Not charging".
Other times it charges normally. Is this a driver issue? (Please god say it's not a hardware issue). -

What % is it at? If the battery level is high it wont charge it to avoid over cycling between 90 and 100%.

Oh? That is actually suuuuuper cool. It's at 87%, so I guess that's what's happening.
I was actually thinking about removing the battery and running it plugged in to save battery longevity, but I guess that's not needed.
I installed the nvidia and got this weird control centre that wants me to log in. Is that really necessary? I just need my GPU to work, not for some magical nvidia experience that requires my fingerprint and darkest secrets. -

Yes the systems are smarter these days. You installed Geforce experience, you can uninstall it separately. It's main function is to record gameplay with only a small performance impact for streaming or uploading to youtube. It can also change game settings to some suggested best settings based on user feedback. You can uninstall it if you want.

Is it difficult to change out the wireless card on this notebook?
And just to confirm, the 1070 and 1080 here are the full TDP 150W and 190W versions?
What's the fastest RAM that works? Does Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz CL16 run at full speed/timings?
Where is the CMOS battery located? Is there another way to reset NVRAM?Last edited: Mar 6, 2018 -
not really, id say its a "medium" operation, depending on your experience: remove backplate / remove heatsink to access keyboard screw / remove keyboard screw / push back keyboard plastic clips on top side of keyboard / take out keyboard (be gentle so as not to rip out any of the attached cables) / unscrew wifi adapter, install new adapter / do all steps in reverse
yes, theyre the full fledged TDP versions. same gpus are used in the larger 17 inch models.
Max. RAM attainable speed is a bit of a lottery to be honest... it depends on the overclocking ability of the RAM sticks themselves, the memory controller inside the CPU and the capability of the mainboard to handle high RAM speeds. Based on reports from other users and also personal experience, I would say that things start to get "interesting" around 2933/3000 Mhz. From that point onwards it depends on the luck of the draw and your RAM overclocking skills (paired with unlocked BIOS options and a LOT of patience), whether or not you can reach 3000 or higher.
Rule of thumb: the higher the sticks are rated, the higher your chance of reaching high speeds. Dont expect to just be able and set XMP profile and all is well! A lot of times some or intensive manual tuning is necessary. Examples: My 2x16 GB 3000 Corsair sticks are only able to run up to 2933 Mhz in my machine, 3000 is bootable but not completely stable. G.Skill 3200 sticks are easier to get stable at 3000 Mhz, 3200 Mhz however is finicky but doable. Corsair 3800 sticks have been demonstrated to run at 3466 Mhz stable, while 3600 is still being tested @Johnksss . Highest rated available sticks at the moment are DDR4-4000 by Corsair (G.Skill also announced 3800 & 4000 but havent seen them hit the market yet). Id guess that the 4000 sticks would be able to hit somewhere in the region of 3600-3800/3866 stable.
cheers!
PS: make sure to use the two bottom RAM slots first, since they are closer to the CPU and thus more likely to be able to handle high speeds. Another two rules of thumb:
- Populating two slots is better for reaching overall RAM overclocking stability than populating four slots
- Lower capacity sticks are easier to overclock than higher capacity sticks due to less variance between individual memory packages on the sticksraz8020, Donald@Paladin44 and Carrot Top like this. -
What about hype X 2400 overclocking ability
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProDonald@Paladin44 likes this. -
again, that depends on the capacity, number of RAM sticks, CPU memory controller and mainboard traces (= laptop model)
however, @Mr. Fox has overclocked those particular sticks if i remember correctly. I think 2800 was doable, maybe more. Best if he gives some more insight on this

Thanks!
Ohhh so the WLAN is under the keyboard. That makes sense. I'm assuming the other 2 RAM slots, the second M.2 slot, and the CMOS battery are there as well?
Speaking of CMOS battery, is there an easier way to reset NVRAM other than unplugging it? Maybe some key combo or reset switch? I play on doing a lot of overclocking and tweaking when I get my X4C and that would be really useful to know.
Got it. About the 1070 specifically, is the TDP adjustable from 150W to 170W like on the desktop FE card, or is it locked at 150W?
Great insight on the RAM! I will request Eurocom to populate the DIMM slots next to the CPU when building, instead of the ones under the keyboard.
I am getting 2x8GB. The thing is, Corsair Vengeance 3000MHz CL16 is only $25 more than Kingston HyperX 2400MHz CL14. Hmmm decisions decisions...Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
correct
what i used to do when doing RAM overclocking and stability testing: just take out the CMOS battery completely. as long as youre connected to the PSU, bios settings will stick. for a CMOS reset, just unplug PSU cable and replug it, thats it
TDP is adjustable, but not as easy as you might think. Ull need to modify the vBios and flash it, which is not possible via a pure software solution. ull need to flash any modified vBios directly to the vBios chip on the GPU via a hardware programmer. more insight on this by @Johnksss @Mr. Fox etc since im not personally familiar with that procedure.
yep, lots of options
which is better than having none to start with
available SO-DIMM speeds at DDR4 are currently: 2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2800 / 3000 / 3200 / 3600 / 3800 / 4000

Ah that's a nice tip.
Another one I've heard from users of the Eurocom F5 (CMOS is a ***** to access on that one) is to keep CMOS unplugged permanently, and just leave the main battery plugged in. As long as the mobo is receiving power from the main battery, BIOS settings will stick, even if AC is disconnected. If you want to clear NVRAM, just hold down the power button, which will disconnect the main battery.
Oh yeah I know about that, actually read through all 100+ pages of that thread since I was about to get an F5 before changing my mind to the X4C. The MSI 1070 in the F5 lacks aux power and is gimped to 115W TDP.
I was just curious if on the stock Clevo 1070 vBIOS power limit could be raised to 112% in AB/Inspector like on the reference DT card.
Any Clevo 1070 users dumped their vBIOS using NvFlash and taken a look in Coolane's tool?Donald@Paladin44 likes this. -
im sure they have, just cant provide you with any specifics in that regard
