I don't really know how long I would've had to wait. I placed my order back on the 16th the moment I saw it because I didn't want to end up being back-ordered.
I'm quite surprised at the quality of the screen. It's as bright and colorful as my Sony. What really surprises me is the viewing angles. You can clearly see everything on the screen no matter which angle you view it from. I've got it sitting about 10 feet away from me and turned sideways I can still see the screen very clearly.

Some have mentioned this CPU throttles at 95c. I'm curious where people are seeing this figure? I've read the Intel documentation and all I see is 105 for the Tj max and 130 for when the Thermal Trip is activated and the processor shuts down.
-
My SSD has not exceeded 40C, and it runs hotter than normal anyhow, if that's any consolation. Also there are no "hot spots" on the top surface of the arm rest or keyboard anywhere. A bit warm but nothing hot.
There are already videos of it on YouTube playing games. I would have done a quick video review, but unfortunately I've got two kids that do nothing but make noise.
I'll give it a go this morning. -
If your referring to the video of BF3, that is only one game and not 'games' as you inferred. Furthermore, I sit and patiently wait for your conclusion and final review. But, i would like to see some videos; just lock your kids in the basement (i joke).
-
Yup!
Dual core IVB. And on your choice of CPU from It's a bit of overkill if your going to use this laptop mainly for gaming. -
Hmmm, I could be wrong (can't find official documentation about this in an instant either) but I'm pretty sure Intel has this feature built-in for many CPU generations now. It might not be at 95°C sharp, honestly a bit surprised at the Trip temperature being as high as 130°C. Basicly this means that Intel trusts the CPU not frying itself at any degree below 130°C. Not an advisable temp to work with but hey, running mid to high 80's under full load doesn't look all that bad if the thermal shutdown temp is still 40-50°C higher (which is ALOT of margin).
I know the temps seem worrying for us as humans, but if they allow 130°C before a thermal trip shutdown well... I wouldn't even fear for the CPU's life if it hit high 90's range, and I don't see any way possible that it should ever get 100 or above. (assuming no defective or clogged up cooling system). -
So far in regular gaming use my temps haven't exceeded 92C, typically it's < 90C. Hotter than I'd like but honestly, the laptop has no noticeable hotspots. The exhaust is pretty hot, but duh, its should be.
My biggest disappointment so far is battery life. 3.5 hours useful life is a bit sad imho. -
I know that ATM(Adaptive Thermal Monitor) and prochot# will kick in when the chip hits Tjmax(105C) and start throttling the chip to keep temps down. I also recall from several Lenovo's I worked with that they would start throttling down the Mhz at 95C(these were first and second gen i7 quads).
I think it was the TCC activation offset that caused the throttle temp to be lower then Tjmax from my research at the time but I won't have the time for at least a week and a half to go diving into datasheets to find what pages and such. -
I just ordered one from BTO Notebooks (Netherlands supplier, live in Belgium). It's their branded build from the W110ER, I'll post the temps under equal load when I receive it in a few days, You're right about the battery life it's kind of lowish, it seems the IVB quads ain't all that good in terms of using low power at low loads. I'm sure Intel engineers are gonna focus more on that issue with the upcoming dualcore ones.
In the end it's a decent battery life if you look at the performance...
Too bad top-notch performance will eat more power then your average ultrabook or the sorts, having low voltage CPU's is their main source of long battery life of course. I personally don't think the temps are too much for the notebook to handle, besides I've got a 3 yr warranty plan on mine to be sure I can go with it for at least 3 years. Time will tell, in the meantime all we can do is guess if any issues rise after long-term use. -
Ivy Bridge is quad core right? at least mine will be.
And for your comment on this being a bit overkill: that is true for a strictly gaming system, but then again, gddr3 for a gaming system is under powered to start of with (if you take into account some of the newer games).
First off: If I was intending to use this as true gaming system i would not get a video card that has only ddr3 video memory (let alone a 11" screen), i would go for gddr 5 (preferable on a 18" screen).
Secondly; this is obviously not going to be a only gaming system, i plan to use it for school and for 'other miscellaneous' tasks. and the new chip set (HM76) and the fast 6GB/s data transfer speeds, and the faster bus line of 1600Mhz RAM all turn me on, add that to the small and 'plamable' form-factor and you have a winner.
I still think xoticpc and other segar retailers have good deals and the CPU they have is perfect for this system, but if you want to keep this for a while and need that little extra KICK then i like the 8MB cache and small bump in speed.
My only concern with this configuration is the fact that people on this site and others keep saying (OMG! your going to melt the solder with the Ivy Bridge CPU you have!!). but i dont think so, we will find out when i get this in next week, and I hope nothing melts. (fingers crossed) -
guys ive just read in m11x review, that snb i7 17w tdp thats in it, have almost the same temp under the load , about 80-90C.
-
I'm based in the UK, so looking out for EU resellers (may go with MYsn in Germany, they do the i7-3612qm). Noticed the CPU options on BTO's website, some powerful CPU options (i7-3920xm!!!). If you don't mind me asking, which CPU did you opt for?
-
Unless you are doing something that requires extremely CPU heavy workloads stick with the 3610QM/3612QM. It would be a waste of money and a better upgrade if you want to get something special get a SSD.
The performance between IVB Quad's is not that wide according to this:
Review Intel Ivy Bridge Quad-Core Processors - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
Very interesting read. -
Sorry double post: Mr mod can you erase this please.
-
Most likely will go with the 3612QM, if I do end up buying this laptop.
-
I have opted for the 3610QM, I cannot find any reason to go higher up the pricescale considering its performance. Unless you do constant rendering where it can save you minutes/hours of time in the long run you won't see the difference between the 3610QM or the extreme edition IVB quads. But if that extra money is burning a hole in your pocket -> go for it, if you'd rather save some I wouldn't
You could always wait for reviews to come from people who ordered more powerful CPUs (or the 35W 3612QM) but we all know how hard it is to wait when ordering one is only a few clicks away. -
Yeah, I read that too. So 45w quad at same temp as a 17W ULV. Although battery life is the one thing that the ULV has over the quad. I'm hoping that I'm just missing something stupid and someone else will discover a way to get another couple hours battery life without sacrificing much performance.
-
I was just curious really (well alright, a little tempted!). Will most likely go for the 3612QM (mostly because of the possible heat difference).
-
I would shudder to think how hot an Ivy Extreme would get in this petite frame. What I would be more interested to learn is what is the temperature difference between the 3610qm and the 3612qm. I know it wont be significant and I am kinda just beating myself up at this point for ordering the 3610qm due to price, but with temps in the 90's, id take every degree I could get...
I have one of those cheap targus coolers I got at target (it was the cheapest one, judge me if you will), do you think that will really make much of a difference or am I better off buying a quality one. The Coolermaster NotePal x2 in particular caught my eye... -
LaptopUserExtreme Notebook Consultant
I'm really interested in the temps between the default i5 2450M and 3610M. Can a retail outlet please give us a comparison between the temperatures? I humbly ask you for this...
At this point, the price difference isn't as significant as the temperature. Will a cooldown of 5-7C make that much of a difference in the longevity of the laptop?
-
Just tested a bit of Metro 2033 on my 6110.
Graphical settings were on high/dx9/AAA
Average fps ranged from 45-60 with low dips in the 30's and 20's when you're outside.
GPU temps never went above 77C.
I'm very pleased. -
I don't think the temps will affect the laptop longevity as it is.
If I could get ahold of an i5-2450m or other i5 mobile chip cheaply I'd be happy to do a comparison of temperature and battery life. -
i5-2430m's seem like the best value on ebay. They go for around $130, though that's probably too much to buy just to try out. You could try buying one and returning it though.
I plan on ordering an i5 one on Monday or so, so I can put up data in a week or two. -
Have you run the processor through a stress test to see how hot it gets? Would like to see if they're similar. -
Do you have IC Diamond?
-
Megacharge Custom User Title
How smooth does it feel with adaptive Vsync on? -
Thank you, sir!
While gaming, how hot does it get underneath? I believe someone said it only gets hot at the vent (which is perfectly natural)? What about the arm rests/keyboard? Oh, and how comfortable is the keyboard? Also, I take it there won't be any options to change the battery to a more powerful one?

I got this cooling pad Amazon.com: Cooler Master X Slim Notebook Cooler (R9 NBC XSLI GP): Electronics
And I got this carry case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003LWTL2C/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
Both seemed to have great reviews and best of all they are real inexpensive -
I've been looking at this one ( Micro Center - Digital Innovations Portable Notebook Cooler Fits LCD Screens up to 15" Black 5290100) because it is so cheap and actually folds into about the size of the power brick... It's smaller so I'm pretty sure the NP6110 will fit. As for the bag I bought a 13.3 inch one from office depot that should work nicely
-
Does that bag hold that cooling pad? Cooling pad looks like it may be an inch or two too long
-
I'm probably going to buy this from xoticpc soon after my finals. The sole reason I'm getting this is to play Diablo 3 over the summer, which would probably be the most intensive thing I'll ever do on this laptop. I don't plan to play any other games. I will definitely be opting for the SSD but do you guys think it'll be worth it for me to get the i7 or should I save a few degrees temp and $100 and stick with the sandy i5?
-
ThatOldGuy Notebook Virtuoso
If diablo is th only intensive program you plan to run, you have no need for an i7 quad core processor. Save money and temp by getting the i5. -
Would it be possible to get it with a nordic keyboard?
-
Yes it is, from the US its going to be a few weeks before we get all the languages in. However the EU guys may already have them.
-
mythlogic - can you compare the standard glossy screen to the upgrade option matte screen? Is it brighter, better viewing angles, etc? What would you compare it to?
-
They are the same panels, just except one has a glossy coating and one has a matte coating. You can look at the specs here.
-
Ok, I thought it was mentioned that the matte version was high gamut?
-
That's what at least one person from MYTHLOGIC has claimed, but I'm reasonably certain that they're just referring to an apparent improvement in the color reproduction due to the matte finish. They never refer to it as a higher gamut screen in the configurator.
P.S. It looks awesomely small in person. I can't wait to get mine. Come on 3612QM, arrive already. -
Good to see someone ordered one with the 3612QM, hope you get it soon and see how this compares with the 3610QM. Performance should be close with the slight edge going to the 3610, what we don't know is how much cooler the 3612 will run. I was going to get the 3612QM too but it was over $150 more than the 3610QM so no deal for me no matter how tempted I was.
Personally I think the temps on the 3610QM are fine, it just idles warmer than bigger laptops becuase of the smaller case while still keeping them at a reasonable level.
I can't wait to get mine too. -
Tuesday cant come soon enough.... I want this baby badly... just have to get through monday, and I will have it the next day... I will install tons of games on mine when I get it (BF3, MW3, Skyrim, SWTOR, SCII, WOT, Just Cause 2...etc...etc) Cant wait!
-
Besides being a bit more powerful (and having HD 4000 graphics), what are the benefits of Ivy Bridge compared to the i5-2450M chip that comes with this? If I'm planning on playing games (d3, wow, sc2, bf3, skyrim, etc..) is it a huge upgrade?
-
quad core, the IPC is higher (not a big jump but like 5-10%) and it will last you longer (its $100, its worth it) BF3 will benefit from a Quad.
-
where can you get the 3612? which reseller has that? i just ordered mine on thursday from lpc-digital, it has the 3610. i can't wait, heat isn't that big a deal, nor is battery life, since the only time i'm going to be gaming is while i'm plugged in anyways so i won't be using the battery, and the rest of the time i'm on my laptop for class, whcih shouldn't drain the battery much
-
That appears to be a good question. It seems that it isn't an option offered by Sager, so most(?) Sager resellers probably won't offer it. MYTHLOGIC buys direct from Clevo, and their Chaos 1212 offers more options than you'll find at most other vendors. Perhaps when (or if) the chip availability increases, you'll find more buying options.
-
Sorry, I don't really understand that list. Is the 40 C the case temp?
"The laptop is actually quite cool at the bottom. The only hot location is the exhaust on the left." Sweet, I presume the "coolness" of the keyboard and armrest gets the same verdict?
Still, could I get a comment about the keyboard? -
Sorry, thought I mentioned that somewhere already, but everything is lost in a blur lately. Keyboard as far as heat? There are no hotspots... anywhere. Wish I had a laser temperature gun.
-
The matte screen is also 45% gamut...Myth said the viewing angle is a bit better because of less reflection.
