I took some photos at Fry's and I'm going to try to take some more when I go by Microcenter tomorrow of the w110er next to other laptops.

Did this get mentioned here yet?
Obviously removing the heat-spreader is always an option but its not really the go to solution for many people. Do the mobile chips have the heat-spreader in place? I'm not sure I've seen a picture of one. Last mobile chip I installed did not but it was old...
Also, speaking of mods, what do you think the odds are of stashing a Logitech Unifying Reveiver inside the W110ER? Not my area of expertize and I haven't really looked into it seriously - and don't really need to do it - but it might be nice. Any spare internal USB headers just laying around?
-
so to clear up? you added more ram heatsinks.... the silver things??? and a basically another fan somehow with out its shell???
-
It was mentioned in another thread, but no, mobile chips do not have an IHS, so that is not a concern. I also considered mounting a unifying receiver internally to free up a USB port. You can always solder a USB connector internally, and I will look at doing that. Soldering is something I don't have much experience with, but at least the connectors are larger than most of the tiny wires on some timing chips I've modded. If I get the nerve to do it, I may go ahead with it. I always thought that laptops could benefit from an internal USB port. Could even store a 64GB USB flash drive in there if desired for added storage.
-
I wonder if intel will recall chips to fix the problem... They won't but it would be nice. Would it be possible to repaste a mobile chip?
Whoops, failed to read above post. -
YES, but not me that Chinese brother did. (I don't even have my W11 yet)
-
All of these thermal issues make it seem like switching to the i5-2450 is superior to the i7-3610 on account of both power consumption and long-term health of the laptop.
-
What I might do is buy a high-end ivy i5, and sell my 3610 for a profit if it proves too much, but then again I might go into the modded bios and tweak it to be the equivalent of an i5 when needed
wouldn't that be swell!
-
I've got to say that I don't see it as an "issue" per say. Under normal usage or even a little heavy lifting I'm not seeing anything I'd consider alarming... Yes, if you run Prime and 3Dmark at the same time you can hit 90+ degrees, but I haven't seen mine go much over 80 when playing games so I'm not going to sweat it too much. I might however be interested in some of the heat management tweaks if they help battery life significantly too.
-
I'm not talking about short term performance but more about whether this thing will last for 3+ years of decent use, as I'm sure we can all re-purpose this kind of power to our personal servers.
-
Apparently Clevo deliberately had Turbo Boost disabled while the Discrete GPU is active. If you take a look at the W150ERQ thread, I made a post of part of a review(the Turbo Boost section) google-translated from a German NoteBookCheck review on the XMG A502.......
-
If anyone has a W110ER that is still using KBC/EC firmware 1.00.01 please PM me!!!
-
Have you been able to run some tests with your modded cooling solution?
-
It's not mine...but once he updates his status I'll let you guys know.
-
Prema, U speak Chinese ?
-
Careful using those fan components, that fan is rated @ 5v and 250mA. The USB 2.0 specs provides up to 100mA. He should make some measurements before placing that fan. He could fry his mb or if he is lucky the USB slot, since he is demanding more current...
Power demand: 5v x 250mA = 1.25 W.
Provided power: 5v x 100mA = .5W.
Edit: and FORGET about using that USB slot for usb memories and accesories... -
Hey guys,
I need help mounting these two fans to the GPU and the CPU.
any ideas how I can get them in the case of the laptop?
http://www.jephillipsco.com/media/fansBlowers1.gif -
I suggest a copper plate at the top and the use them as a notebook cooling pad. And i suggest not to use USB power.
-
Sure it will cooldown ANYTHING ! LOL
-
But will they blend?
-
不!
-
Nice ! Ni Hao !
-
woot its on its way

Please, help me to choose :
Mini-PCI Half PCI-E Intel Ultimate 6300 802.11N
Mini-Module PCI-E Wifi Bigfoot Killer 802.11bg -
My suggestion is Intel. Drivers are stable and regular. Bigfoot doesn't seem to have much of an advantage over the 6300 either.
-
All right, i'll go for Intel, thanks
-
我很好
Hmm... 6300 has 3 ports, but doesn't the W11 only have two antennas?
I require Bluetooth...wish the 1202 would be available already...right now there is only the 6235. -
I just received my W110ER today (from dutch Clevo reseller BTO Notebooks). However I've been having BSODs from start (insert very sadface). Now atm it's stable, I think the RAM-module in the second DIMM was defective, since I removed it all is well. (still gotta run memtest86 to double check it was that).
However I've noticed something else, the System log is crowded with the following event: "The speed of processor X in group 0 is limited due to the computer firmware".
My BIOS is 1.01.02, I guess this is a limitation built in to control the power usage + heat production. Can others confirm if this is also the case in US models? Would like to map if the W110ER from my European supplier is any different BIOS wise. -
i vaguely remember that there is only 2 antennas...need to check. But does the 1202 is worth waiting ?
-
We are trying to get rid of that...Clevo is taking lot of heat for their W series throttle at the moment, they may very well react...until now every BIOS from 01 to 03 has this "issue".
What is the KBC/EC version of your system?
May I request a BIOS dump please?:
afuwin64.rar -
Any special things needed to extract it or just run the program and done? Will get it to you later or somewhere tomorrow, still testing around with the memory modules seeing the BSODs ive been having....
-
Just wait slightly longer, it's coming this month
this just came up, M14xR2 is getting the 1202 hehe, dell drivers uploaded SOURCE -
Extract it, install/run it, and click "Save" then save the file, and post it for Prema.
-
So dummy me bought a disc copy of diablo 3 and I don't have an external optical drive. I do have an external hard drive and a desktop. Can I install it on the hard drive through my desktop and then transfer it to my laptop. Or am I SoL. Sorry for the noob question but I don't know what to do lol
-
Even easier! Just log onto your Battle.net account (or create one as you will need one to play the game) and type in your CD key when prompted to add games. Then you can just download it from Blizzard's servers.
-
Yup
I now have digital downloads of all of my blizzard games from the original starcraft up through D3.... gotta give blizzard props for this service, they don't need to have it, but it is a huge help knowing I can get it as a DD
-
Uurgh. You want to know what's worse than your laptop almost being here (after 2+ weeks without a computer)? Its the friggin UPS tracking page not having been updated since midnight last Thursday!! I know it'll be here any day now but their (lack of) tracking service is quite irritating...
-
Haven't had that issue with UPS.. and I've received hundreds of packages over the last few years by UPS.
My XoticPC order tracking hasn't been updated Saturday, but I'm sure it's because it hasn't arrived at a facility. -
Woohoo, my laptop has shipped. Will be here tomorrow
Portable Diablo 3 machine
-
Finally got mine today after a delay trying to waive brokerage fees with UPS (what a nightmare). But here I am typing on my new np6110.
So far it is pretty awesome. Screen size doesn't bug me, resolution doesn't bug me. This thing is super portable. It does get hot as mentioned (and I haven't even gamed yet) but that was sort of expected. I ordered a netbook cooling pad that fits in my case.
Just waiting for D3 to launch! -
Wouldn't this cooling mod void Manufacturer's warranty? -
Hey tchris, hope you don't mind if I ask you a couple questions? How did you determine it was hot? Did you feel it under the computer, on top of it, out of the vent, etc? Or did you measure the temperatures? And did it get hot under heavier loads or light/idle ones?
Also, how was the noise despite the heat? -
Sony adding the i7-3612QM to their Z configuration. Already up on German site and should possibly be up on UK site today (they had taken the Z off over the weekend and still isn't up yet but should be later today).
-
Dell has some sort of a time-exclusive on the card though...how do we get hold of a Dell card, I would get it at once! -
I don't believe so. Those heatsinks can come off fairly easily, well depending on what you use to stick them on. I just use double sided thermal tape. Douse with alcohol, soak for a few minutes and peel of. Sager is pretty forgiving with Warranty. But don't quote me on that. If you started drilling holes and cutting away at things, they yes, that would void the warranty.
-
I was just going through some documentation and saw that this is only SATA II, is that still correct?
What does Intel RST report? -
Wish I had an SSD fast enough to confirm, lol.
That would be silly though, wouldn't it? Considering the HM76 Express chipset supports two SATA III ports? Mobile Intel® HM76 Express Chipset And this machine only has a single SATA drive useable internal or external
I have a Samsung SSD on the way. I can confirm then.
edit: here's Intel RST, but not sure if SATA 3 is referring to the drive or the port:
If CPUID's PC Wizard is right, it shows it as SATA 6.

One unboxing video. This guy has an unbranded W110ER:

Anyone have diablo 3 installed yet? How does it perform?
