Well, the first Trinity review I've read makes me pretty glad not to be waiting for an 11.6" AMD based ultrabook style machine. That was my other choice but even if the cost would have been a lot less and the battery life considerably more - the performance just wouldn't have been good enough. However, I still think Trinity is fairly impressive and I wish AMD the best with the platform.

You should be able to max it all as far as I understand.
Going HDMI or VGA and getting at higher resolution will lower your detail, but you should be able to play it extremely well
Diablo 3 doesn't require much.
-
BTW, I ordered two coolers to test and will report back with my thoughts. I picked up the Amazon.com: Cooler Master NotePal U1 Notebook Cooler with 1 Fan R9-NBC-8PAK-GP: Electronics and the Amazon.com: Cool Lift Portable Notebook Cooling Pad: Computers & Accessories. I might need to tweak them a little but I think they are both good starts and fairly different to boot.
-
Can anyone offer insight as to how this is running Diablo 3 now that the official version is now live? I can see the benchmarks for several other games, but didn't see this. Thanks.
-
Won't be able to give it to him soon, been having BSODs even when memtest86 checks out fine, tested with both the delivered seagate HDD and a brand new Intel 520 series SSD both have regular BSOD events. Sometimes I get 3 passes on memtest w/o errors, the other run it gives errors right away so I'm giving up, the reseller is picking it up tomorrow. Can't put more time in it or I'll start getting pissed off at the situation.
I'll post the dump when I've got a working copy of the W110ER in my possession. -
Sorry to hear that...the non Sager version 02 BIOS would have been intersting as it is the only one we haven't seen, yet...anyway hope they cross ship the new one to you and we see one more happy camper very soon -
Just want to mention I am a total noob so take what I say with a grain of salt.
It gets warm underneath sort of towards the bottom left near the vent. I am not saying it was scary hot, just when I ran the windows performance thingy it got pretty warm and quick. No heat on top/keyboard. No heat when Idle. I will be gaming D3 tonight for a few hours tonight so I can report back after that.
Once the machine gets going it starts to make a bit of noise (fan, etc..) but nothing more than any other laptop. When web browsing it is silent.
It has that rubbery finish which I really like, but it extends over the mouse trackpad and I am not a fan of that. But I use a mouse anyway. -
I already bought Diablo III and loaded the installation files on my flash drive... My W110ER better come today...
-
I'm really excited, my laptop is scheduled to ship out today, should arrive anytime now.

Just a quick question - how easy/difficult will it be to install a new/different BIOS that unlocks the various options and prevents the throttling? I don't mind the throttling when on battery, but I wish there wasn't any while plugged in...

Here's a nice unboxing vid of the W110ER for those who wan't a better idea of the size of the W110ER.

Flashing the BIOS is easy...making it not.

So how is the custom bios coming along, can we disable hyper threading, turbo boost, and cores yet? -
Now that the notebook has been in the hands of people for a few weeks, would it be possible to edit one of the first posts to provide a go-to place for information and downloads, how-to's, mods, and pictures? I've seen this for several laptops I have owned in the past and it has been exceedingly helpful to have all the information readily available and consolidated as opposed to being spread across dozens and dozens of pages. This is an owner's lounge after all
I would do it but I don't have a post on the front page :/ -
You can disable hyperthreading and boost no problem. Cores so far no luck. Have to reset the CMOS if you try it.
But hyperthreading made little difference in temperature, and boost can be artifically turned off using windows power profiles.
Working on that. Might have to start a new thread though. -
I dont get why so many people want to unlock the turbo boost function if it has been locked on purpose.. Most likely this is due to the very high temperatures the W1XER series during idle and load (okay only extreme load with furmark and prime95)
Clevo very likely made that decision because of high temperatures or throttling, why would anyone want to potentially risk overheating just for a little added boost -
But boost does work for certain processors and there's no problems. I believe HTWingNut's 3610qm boosts just fine except in cinebench, and I don't think he's had any problems due to boost. Seems like an artificial restriction to me.
-
It's like one third less CPU power without boost...
Just prepare something and drop Ryan a PM, so he can put it in the first post. -
That may be correct if only the CPU is stressed, but maybe it doesnt boost in cinebench due to the 650m being activated (I havent run cinebench before but isnt there a 3d animation)
If both GPU and CPU turbo boost throttling/overheating is very likely
I doubt clevo made a mistake, all signs show that IVB does run even hotter than sandy bridge and that clevo turned off simultaneous boosting due to high temps..
So if simultaneous boost is off the high temperatures from the notebookcheck test with prime95/furmark only underline why its off
source: Notebookcheck
So as you see, even without turbo boost on the cpu it gets very hot -
There's times that it bounces from 2.3 to 3.1. And other times it doesn't bounce at all and is pegged at 3.1. I can't figure it out, but it does boost.
Problem is I'm sure there will be frequent updates. Maybe in my review thread third post down since I reserved it for other crap.
-
I see a lot of interest about heat.
But I am assuming if you buy this with the I 7 CPU and don't mess with it but leave it factory setting toy won't have a heat problem. -
With boost off, my CPU doesn't get very hot at all.
-
Slight wishing here .. but GDDR5 would make this machine unique
-
Would have been nice but in general even the GDDR3 version can handle just about any game on high/ultra settings with a little tweaking.
With the m11x no longer in production it's pretty much unique as is. -
With that being said, Clevo make a 9 cell battery
As unique as this machine is, everything can be improved, wouldn't mind getting something delicious at some point.
Quite aware that this can be said about any machine, but these tweaks are as minor as they get, 9 cell battery.. come on heh -
Dunno if this has been posted already, but here is the Eurocom W110er manual. Don't think there's any info we didn't know already, but it's a good guide to disassembling/reassembling the notebook.

Speaking Eurocra..'s name on these boards is blasphemy! -
Man, I'm still too scared to touch mine. Have it for a week now... I feel like it should be as perfect as the day I received it. Could someone help me break this feeling?
Also, how do you take off the cover to see the insides? I'm Probably not applying enough pressure, but should it be this hard to take it off?
Also, anyone have a list of what I should have as far as applications and programs from the start? All I currently have are HWMonitor, FireFox, and MSE.. -
Objects are meant to be used and they exist to serve you, not the other way around, so why would you want to pamper it like a baby?
A worn out object is a symbol of it serving you well. When I started skateboarding, people could tell I was a noob when my skateboard was clean and spotless.
Check out HTWingNut's video review. He pops it open in that video around the 1 min mark. The catch is that he puts the camera down
He pops it back in during the 2 min mark.

So I got my laptop today and it keeps saying "reboot and select proper boot device". I've already installed windows....
-
Check BIOS and make sure to check your HDD/SSD as a boot option
-
Well I fixed that issue, but now Optimus isn't switching over to the 650. Even when I run things like msi kombustor. Any ideas?

I used to feel like that in the past, every single scratch my beloved stuff took left a scar in my heart.
Then I realised that at the end we are bound to loose every single thing in this world at one point or the other.
So if an object gives you some extra dose of happiness, then keep that happiness and detach it from the object.
That let's you keep your happiness even if your stuff gets lost.
On top of that check out my sig.

I would suggest a free virus scanner like AVG or Avira.
Then as a browser I use Chrome.
Maybe Skype?
Enjoy your newborn baby boy!

Have you successfully booted into Windows at least once?
At boot up press F7 and see if you can see and select your SSD/HDD. -
I solved both my issues with various driver uninstall/reinstalling. It's a nice little laptop.
-
I spent some time gaming last night. Diablo 3 is playable on max settings. Actually, kinda funny but when I tried turning the settings to lowest I got some lag. Not sure if this is because of Optimus or Blizzard's servers (We got booted a bit after that).
The machine gets pretty darn hot by the vent on the side. I had to keep my left hand away from that area which was annoying since most of the controls are on that side of the keyboard.
Was it dangerously hot? I don't know. I don't know how to tell if it is 'too' hot. The rest of the laptop was cool.
Also played a bit of SC2, max settings. -
I have a question. I tried attaching the laptop to my t.v. (1080p LED) via HDMI. The issue is that the picture stretches a bit past the screen. For example I can barely see the task bar. Does anyone know how to fix this? It doesn't happen when I attach my older laptop to the screen, however I use a VGA cable for that.
My resolution is set to 1080p. -
Check your TVs overscan settings.
Most computers, when outputing on the VGA connection, allow for overscan but do not when outputing over HDMI.
http://hd.engadget.com/2010/05/27/hd-101-overscan-and-why-all-tvs-do-it/ -
You can always use the nvidia utility to resize your screen but it will reduce your resolution a little.
Edit: Hmmm... I assumed but I'm not sure how Optimus would impact this. -
so, has anyone done any physical mods to lower the temps?
-
I'm holding off for the end of my 30 day return before I start hacking and slashing. I'm sure I won't return, but there's that inkling of chance that a 13" with similar specs comes out I'll go that route. Although I really want a new high quality screen. A larger battery would be nice too.
-
Are you referring to a future release of the current W130Hx?
If yes.. then I surely hope Clevo make them come with a GPU this time since Optimus is available
-
Whatever it's called, I dunno. I read rumblings somewhere... but probably just a pipe dream that would likely never make it to North America anyhow. If I can get a 9-cell battery and a better LCD for this machine though I'll be perfectly satisfied. Otherwise if a 13 inch comes along with a great LCD and 5+ hours battery life with at least specs of this W110ER I'm sold. Preferably a Clevo though.
-
Sadly I highly doubt there will be a 9 cell battery
Clevo is probably going to release a 13 inch... as they always do. Updated with the latest Intel technology.. but I reckon a pre-haswell release as there's no reason to release something with Ivy as there's already the W110ER on the market. Would love some more battery life on the W110ER.. the only thing bothering me :s -
w8 where did all of these rumors of a 13 inch come from????? r they just rumors, or is there actually a present clevo/sager model that they can just upgrade the internals
-
RUMORS! Purely irresponsible speculation. This is the internet after all...
-
Anyone know how long Mytholic's burn-in and test take?
It's been in that stage for the last 2 days
EDIT:
It's ready to ship
can't wait!
-
2 days, only took a day for mine. That's awesome though! You will love this little beat of a machine!
. -
Im also waiting mine, it has been a while on LA about 4 or 5 days... I think that its so close to Finland, maybe tomorrow
Cant wait too... But still have to wait for next week because then Ill get my new Samsung 830 512gb ssd
Does it fit like other ssd or have to do some modding?
-
Just wanted to chime in and say this is my next laptop. I used to haul around a D901c for a few years. Then I made a big jump to an M11x R1, decided that with moving around I liked the form factor and now I'm about to jump back on the Clevo bandwagon and go with the W110er. Already have my Seagate Momentus XT 8GB nand/750 GB hdd and Corsair 16 GB 2x8GB (1600) Ram. Just checking my options on cpu's. Either Mythlogic will get a i7-3820qm or I'll pick one up and barebones the lappy from RJTech. But soon it will be mine!
