Gman, this is excellent to hear! I have an R2 and the only thing I hate about it is the screen. I was looking for a comparison between the two screens but haven't been able to find one. Could you please share more about your experience with both screen? I have an NP6110 on order form Xotic with the matte option and am really hoping at a decent upgrade in screen quality.

I had an M11x for a short while before dumping it primarily because of the screen. It was like a mirror, and really not functional for me. Colors weren't bad, but viewing angles were pretty crappy. I have the matte screen on my W110er, and while I love that it's matte, I actually think the gloss of the M11x lets the colors pop just a little bit more. Viewing angles appear to be pretty similar...maybe a little better on the W110er.

Right now my only major complaint for the W110er is the track pad. Multi-touch especially straight up sucks. Keyboard is actually quite nice, with the exception of the right shift key which is shrunk.

I popped a Sandy Bridge Dual core in a couple days ago, just to see what it was like. It actually runs cooler (average 45-50) and discharge rate according to battery bar tends to be between 11 and 13mw. (Used it in bed last night for just over 5 hours before it gave me a warning...backlight on low, and on power-saver)

I'll be honest, I'm not the best judge of quality, however considering that I found the M11x screen decent, I am extremely pleased that the sager is a little better!

Just put on the Copper Ram Heatsinks to the Processor and GPU Heatsinks. Dropped idle temps even further! Now between 42 and 45 consistently.

hmm, am i right in saying that the wireless card is PCIe x1? It look that way in the picture.

I'm wondering if it could be removed, and a small PCIe SSD could be put in its place? i don't even though if they make them that small.
I'm trying to find a way to get SSD boot times for my best apps without sacrificing storage space (or spending a thousand dollars)

anyone know if that would work, or if there are PCIe ssds that would fit there without being too slow?

I am running Fedora 17x64 (Intel i7-3612QM, 16GB RAM, yada yada). I didn't quite get bumblebee working yet.

Actually 'gamer quality' graphics is not necessity for me (right now). So I have optimus/nvidia entirely disabled. Here is what I did to disable optimus, if you are curios.

In addition to bumblebee, for nVidia/nouveau optimus support, there is also ironhide.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04. Bumblebee was a pretty easy install. You really want it not just for games but it actually runs cooler once the drivers are installed. Plus there are programs that actually use the GPU.

Use chrome, firefox doesn't work. but there seems to be a problem with that profile so try download others from different 11.6 notebooks and see what is the best for you.
Folow this steps to work with nvidia optimus

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/492790-m11xr2-calibrated-lcd-icc-profile.html#

Done that to several friends computers and it works great.

Oh well, I'm happy if it's even just a minor upgrade for the power lying under the hood. I really wish a nice screen option were available though. It would be my ideal machine if only it could have a nice IPS panel. :(

Yeah I would kill for the x230 12.5" IPS display. In the end, the display won't blow you away, but it's better than most netbooks.

For anyone else coming from an M11x and impatiently waiting for their NP6110, these images compare the panel in the R2 and the 6110.

    R2: http://www.notebookcheck.net/uploads/pics/black_31de7b_01.jpg
    6110: http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/dcf4fdcb28.jpg

I have to say, the 6110 actually looks quite a bit better so I'm going to just try not to think about it over the next 3 weeks while I await delivery. I keep googling the same stuff out of tech lust/fear of buyers remorse and it's driving me crazy!

I'll say this much - the screen is not as glossy as the m11x and the text and images seem to be a little shaper or more crisp. I really like the look off the laptop; its very clean looking, sturdy and extremely compact. It's very quiet and can get warm very fast, but I am hoping it's designed to handle the heat. It's kind of cool that you get so much power that's on par with the new MacBook Pros (15" base?) and is built very well. I used to love the idea in having the Macs because of how cool they look and reliable they are, but this little laptop really does an amazing job at more than half the cost of the MBP.

Has anyone run any AA comparison benches? In particular I'd like to know how well FXAA is handled. I love FXAA.

anyone able to run a few quick benches of some new games with no aa, and then show fxaa on its own, as well as 2xaa, and 2xaa + FXAA?

a big ask, but im very curious to see how it does.

I should be ordering my 110er on monday, and im hoping it wont take to long to arrive from overseas..

no benchies yet, but I have played with Mass Effect 3 with and without AA. at 1680x1050 (the external screen I play on), no-aa runs perfectly smooth, while aa is borderline unplayable

ha1o2surfer, what are your ambiental temps? what you posted there are incredibly low temperatures by any standard.

also, the 302.59 drivers from laptop2go had no effect on my gpu temps

Does windows give you an estimated time remaining? This battery thing is really starting to make me angry. I have used powercfg spent time looking at changing power states, but this thing chugs power like its nothing. At least they should release source code so at least I can see if something is wrong with its power states.

I just played my first two games on my Sager this morning, the Witcher 2 and Diablo 3. It felt like night and day when compared to my m11x R3! Both games were extremely fluid at high settings and full resolution. I couldn't even play the Witcher 2 at 720p on my Alienware. I think I am going to really enjoy this machine!

I tried that, all it did was lower my temps like 1-2c nothing of impact. Getting up to 87c on the GPU and 92c on the CPU while playing a game. I really wish I could crank the fans on this, it seems they never reach 100%.

At those temps the fan should be at full blast. I did a test because I thought the same thing... I unplugged the fan and ran Prime95 and Furmark and it got up to 98C for both, Then I plugged in the fan and it was the same speed as when it dropped down to 79C... That's the best way I can think of to test it. I was impressed it wasn't throttling with no fan....

There are 302.71 and 302.81 drivers currently available in laptopvideo2go. The fixed INF files aren't available yet, so I can't install them, but I'm excited! Maybe they incorporated the fix they were talking about the news, and finally decreased idle/optimus battery consumption.

Those are for windows 8 and Nvidia specifically states that hybrid intel graphics technology is not supported in these releases. :(

I'm wondering if we can pressure Sager to release a better BIOS for the NP6110, to give us some manual fan control, and revamp the current auto fan control, it's not working adequately enough as it is now, and I would like the option of choosing to run the fan full blast in certain situations.

So if anyone is trying to keep heat and noise down for less demanding games, I found a program called Bandicam that is similar to Fraps but it lets you universally limit your FPS. It seems much more flexible and easier to use than nvidiainspector. I've toned down my FPS to 30 fps and sometimes 20 fps for slower-paced games and my W110ER runs cool and silent with no noticeable changes to quality.

I played The Sims 3, whose expansions don't have official nvidia driver support (so I couldn't use nvidiainspector) and Civ V. Both ran like a dream. Civ V's expansion comes out in a couple days and I didn't want to wait for nvidia to update their drivers again for it.

    Hi guys,

I'm interested in picking up a W110ER, however I am a little concerned about the screen following comments earlier in the thread.

As far as I am aware, there is not an option for a matte screen direct from Clevo. If anyone is using a matte screen, could you please confirm which panel you are using and where you purchased it?

    Cheers

I dont think that it is possible. In pictures i have seen that the wireless cards that are built in are only half size, unlike the msata SSDs, which are full size.
You need at least 1 screw at the top of the card to keep the ssd in place, and i dont see one in the W110er! (with modding it might! work, maybe)
Also this 80GB SSD is very expensive!

Hmm, thats annoying though. I'm not sure I'd want to try it for that cost. But I wonder how much support it really needs?..

damn. I wish someone would develop a single 2.5 inch drive with both a small SSD and a HDD that coexist as two separate partitions. Those worthless hybrid drives are terrible. I just want my OS, web browser and media player on SSD. everything else on disk...

You can universally limit your FPS with nVidiaInspector too. Although Bandicam is nice, but it's a paid program. Granted it's pretty much full featured except for recording with the watermark.

Before watching this video there is a couple things to note..

When the fan is forced to a stop position the laptop will beep EXTREMELY Loudly (even in the video, so turn your volume way down) and will shut off in about a minute regardless of temperatures. If I did this to my T420 it would climb to 100C instantaneously.
This video is to show how well the laptop copes with both the CPU/GPU being stressed without a fan and how slowly it climbs and then drops with the fan is let go. This is a cooling system stress test. It is also showing the fan speed and what the fans RPM is at high temp. This is really the only way I know how to test it because I don't know how else to reach 90C+ :p

Note: I do NOT recommend doing this to your laptop, stressing the cooling system like this can add heat to areas of the motherboard which were not designed for it and can warp cases. I also have an aggressive overclock on my 650M as well I forgot to switch it back to stock clocks for this video. I apologize.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBoXK_QBTyM&

also forgive my horrible video manners.. I just woke up and wanted to make a video.
